Beauty Tips For Body Care
My Mom convinced me (20,f) that I should see a dermatologist and I finally went there last month. My face didn’t look too bad, I had just started an AHA cream for the first time but I still considered that going to a derm might stop my Mom from bugging me. The derm was not helpful at all. I have very dry skin but for about half a year I’ve been breaking out as well. It had been bad at first but with the help of skincare I managed to turn cystic acne into mild breakouts every now and then. That’s a good thing because I never even washed my face with anything but water before I started breaking out and now I have a proper routine. The dermatologist didn’t even care about my dry skin and prescribed me an antibiotic topical within a minute of seeing me even though she herself said that there were no new breakouts to be seen, just light scarring, told me to stop using all my skincare products and to not wear makeup again. ‘Wash your face with soap and water once a day’ was basically what she said. Well, thanks. That’s where I came from and since I stopped doing exactly that I saw great improvements but thanks anyway. She furthermore told me to ‘eat healthy’ and that was it. I have never done anything else, I have always eaten healthy for all my life and I don’t eat sweets or fatty foods simply because I don’t like them. I took the prescription because my Mom is a pharmacist and makes money with every prescription that’s coming in but I never used the topical. Instead I had a skin analysis done by a beautician and talked to her about adjusting my routine. She suggested a different moisturiser for the winter to keep my dry skin balanced, actually listened to my concerns and was generally a lot more helpful than the derm I went to. I’m definitely cancelling my follow up appointment with her. After using the AHA cream for about six week I haven’t had any new breakouts in a month, the scarring I had (it wasn’t too bad, a few red marks here and there) is fading rather quickly and thanks to the new moisturiser I’m using I haven’t had any dry patches yet even though the weather is getting colder by the day. It looks like I finally found the perfect routine. I’m very happy with this overall but that dermatologist appointment must have been the most disappointing doctor’s visit I ever had. I’m especially disappointed that she didn’t take a minute to listen to my concerns and the problems I have with my skin. All she could tell me is that the breakouts were probably ‘from stress’ (could be, my father died 18 months ago and Uni isn’t exactly easy either). I needed to get my disappointment out, by no means do I want to say that all dermatologists suck and that we should not listen to their advice. It’s just that mine did.
