[Misc] if pores don’t open or close, what do they do?

So I’m a somewhat newbie to ScA and I’ve learned that pores don’t open or close. In that case, is there a benefit to washing your face with warm water followed by cold? (Or washing with warm at all?) And if there is, what would that benefit be since the pores don’t open/close?
