Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been thinking about making this post for a long time. I've had acne for 15 years on and off with PCOS and thyroid issues, and while it's gotten better it's still an ongoing battle. My skin seems to clear up for months (sometimes even years) at a time, and then suddenly breaks out again with no rhyme or reason why. This is incredibly distressing, and even when my skin is clear/nearly clear I can't fully enjoy it because of the fear that the acne will return and any bump I find on my skin sends me into anxiety (like some kind of PTSD). A cyst for me usually starts out as a tiny almost unnoticeable skin-colored bump, so this doesn't help.I've realized recently that when my skin breaks out, what happens next is I immediately start blaming myself and think I must have done something to cause it. I redouble my efforts with my diet (no sugar, no dairy, no grains, low glycemic, low carb), skincare routine, and lifestyle (exercise, sleep, changing pillowcases, cleaning makeup and brushes), and I STILL HAD ACNE. When all these things fail, it feels even worse - What's wrong with me? Why can't I do something as "easy" as preventing a few pimples? Why doesn't my body/my skin just do what it's supposed to do?I truly believe that your attitude matters in recovering from anything, whether it's acne or any other health condition. I'm not saying that positive thinking will cure you but rather, negative thinking at best will not help you and at worst will hurt you. I was hurting myself by putting myself in that place every day where I was depressed and felt so bad about myself for having acne, and kept mentally punishing myself for it.Please, be gentle with yourself and do not blame yourself for your acne. Things like diet and lifestyle changes are interrelated with whatever else is causing your acne and can certainly help, but they are not always magic cures for everyone, especially if there are complex things going on (like hormones or allergies) that are causing your acne. Skincare routines can take time to nail down to something that works best. The worst thing you can do for yourself is believe you have acne because you are doing something "wrong." EVEN IF you are able to clear your skin by changing your diet, it still doesn't mean the acne was your fault in the first place for eating poorly. We all are affected differently by different things (diets, products, habits) and just because you're in the process of figuring out what works best doesn't mean you are or were doing wrong or you caused this to yourself.Try different things to treat your acne, but please be nice to yourself in the process. For some of us it takes a while to get there and there isn't one easy fix. That's okay. Take the time that you need. Let your family, friends, your partner, anyone else who is important in your life love you even while you're going through this and trust me, you will feel better.
