[Miscellaneous] SCA veterans, how do you evaluate new products that aren't on the recommended or HG lists?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is intended to be a discussion thread; I'm not looking for specific products or help on any personal skincare issues. I just wanna pick your brains for how you approach new products!Obviously nothing is "one size fits all" when it comes to skincare, YMMV and all, but I assume that the "Recommended Cleansers" and "Recommended Moisturizers" didn't appear in a vacuum. So what makes SCA Holy Grails so special, ingredient-wise? Are there things that it absolutely must include, or must not include? Are there other factors you take into account? How do you decide if something is worth the time and money investment to add to your routine?I have personally had trouble finding product recommendations on this sub that check all my boxes (affordable AND easy to find, cruelty-free, preferably vegan, compatible with my skin type, etc), and I assume other people do too for various reasons (allergies, budget or location restrictions, etc). I don't mind doing the legwork to find things that will work for me, I just have been experiencing difficulty knowing where to start. I know that CosDNA and Paula's Choice Ingredient Dictionary are good resources as far as specific ingredients go, but are there other resources I should be tapping? Thanks in advance!
