Hey y’all! Long time lurker, first time poster and all that. What’s causing me to post for the first time is an experience unfolding as we speak.So I am of Mexican descent, which in my culture we take family recommendations to heart. Anecdotal stories from tias and cousins of what works for skin, hair, and anything are the topic of many many discussions.So my mom brought up a miracle skin cream recommended from many of our family. And she herself has seen skin improvements in my grandmother and several of my aunts. The cream is called “La Tia Mana”. Advertised as a miracle worker and only available on eBay. So that set of alarms in my head so I did a quick search on good. And what do you know? it has mercury in it.Tons of news articles advising people to stop using the product immediately for fear of mercury poisoning. So I text all my aunts in a group chat and my mother and i read through symptoms. Turns out it lines up exactly with how one of my aunts have been feeling as of late. So she’s set up a doctors appointment and so has my grandmother, the two have been using the cream the longest.My mother is worried sick, but thankfully she hasn’t tried the cream yet. And most of my aunts have ordered it but have not tried it. But reading up on mercury poisoning; this is scary y’all. So I wanted to give a quick warning though I’m sure most of you know.Look things up. Not only for yourself, but if you overhear a family member blindly trusting a product you don’t know about. Might save someone’s health!
