[Acne] One Routine to Rule Them All....after 10 years of trial and error (ymmv)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://i.redd.it/tzh1qc57din11.jpgAfter 10 years of innumerable products and routines, I'm finally pretty happy with how this one is working out. I'm a males in late 20's, tried antibiotics and various topicals (Differin, Doxy, AHA, BHA, Tea tree...). Acne is moderate and both cysts and whiteheads across the face. GP advice and products have not helped, but listening to dermatologist guidance has been invaluable in the last year.I hope this can help others in a similar position that want a routine that is: cost-effective, fragrance free, evidence-based actives, not time-consuming.Recently discovering Dr Dray and Dr Sam has been a game-changer for me. Things like Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL), not worrying about wait times, as well as focusing on simple routines has saved me so much time. Saving time and money without compromising effectiveness is my focus this year. For example, straight out of the shower (in the morning) I lightly pat dry and then apply sunscreen as my moisturizer. If I need extra moisture, I will use Cerave PM.I used various leave on BHA's for over a year and despite only applying once daily or a few times a week, it would always leave me shiny. Dr Dray's videos convinced me to move to a wash-off Salicylic Acid using Zapzyt Wash and I am happy so far. The shine is noticeably less, it's fantastic for shaving with and prevents ingrown-hair, and there is very little dryness. I leave it on the skin for a few minutes in the shower in the morning.BP (Benzoyl Peroxide) is the key active in the routine. I tried to slowly eliminate it in March this year and totally replace with Azelaic Acid (Skinoren and Azclear). Total disaster for me!! Dr Dray's videos reaffirmed BP's effectiveness for me. I now alternate nights between BP and Azelaic Acid, but always use BP on new spots. 6 months on Azelaic Acid and the jury is still out as the purging for the first few months was awful; however, this also coincided with reducing my use of Benzoyl Peroxide. I will keep using it for the impact in reducing PIE and red marks which Benzoyl Peroxide does not assist with at all in my experience. NOTE: I am using 5% at the moment as it was the only one at the super market, but 2.5% is shown to be equally as efficacious with lower irritation.Favourite Sunscreen: Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk wins by a country mile. Sorry, Elta MD UV Clear and Cerave Am, as much as having niacinamide is great there is absolutely no competition when it comes to appearance and application of the Skin Aqua. I am very white and EltaMD UV clear and Cerve Am still leave a slight white cast. With Skin Aqua UV there has been absolutely no cast and application is perfect. Long-term, I will need to see which one is best for acne but at this stage I see it becoming my primary facial sunscreen. P.S: The Skin Aqua UV is so good for guys with any facial hair as it won't leave any whiteness on the hairs that lot of other sunscreens will.Products that worked but that I switched to alternatives: Acne.org BP 2.5% (Reason: bottle was so large that the BP seemed to degrade before finishing. Will probably switch back to the smaller bottles though), Dr Song 2.5% BP (Reason: Same issue with degrading in 8 oz. tubes), Cosrx BHA (Reason: Constant shine on my skin from over exfoliation and Dr Dray's advice) Cosrx AHA (Reason: Same as the BHA), Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid (Reason: Price and constant shine)Diet that has worked for me: Eliminating dairy has helped and minimising foods that spike IGF-1.Extra products:The extra products are those that I have, but not using much. Melano CC Vitamin C is nice for fading, but it does seem to cause whiteheads for me....ymmv. Skinoren 20% Azelaic Acid seems too irritating. Aveeno Dermexa is a great moisturiser but it pills so, so badly! Sudocrem is great for covering up some spots and drying them out. Palmers Dark Spot Corrector is still one I'm testing out but has a tonne of good ingredients for fading out spots.
