[PSA] Acne SCARRING treatment guide. Not redness - this is not scarring.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
If you have acne SCARS, please read this full post as it will be highly beneficial.Redness is not scarring - please stop making this mistake. It is careless and confuses people.ACNE SCAR treatment is BESPOKE! THE PRACTITIONER IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE PROCEDURE!STOP PUSHING LASERS - THEY ARE A THE LAST STEP IN THE MARATHON THAT IS SCAR REVISION!LIST OF EXCELLENT SOURCES AT BOTTOM OF POST!!!! PLEASE READ - VERY HELPFUL.ACNE SCARS CAN BE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED WITH THE RIGHT TREATMENT AND PHYSICIAN!PrefaceAfter lurking on this sub a while I have noticed many of you refer to PIE - post inflammatory erythema (or just redness for short) as scarring. It is also apparent that there isn't much knowledge on treating scarring on this subreddit either, with many people giving misleading information suggesting lasers and 'fraxel' - an exceptionally outdated laser - without having any actual understanding of treatment protocol for scar type. Lasers are a last step in the long journey of acne scar revision.Guide.Scar types.BoxcarIcepickRollingEach scar type is treated differently, there is no one treatment fits all, a variety of treatment modalities must be used to achieve optimal results. Acne scar treatment is a marathon, not a sprint, many treat over 2 or 3 years and will only achieve 50% improvement, that is the sad reality. Once you have acne scars you simply aren't going to have glass smooth skin like you once did. Sorry.Treatment order is just as imporant as the treatments you are actually getting, getting treatments done in the wrong order can actually lead to worseing of scarring, e.g lasering face first can lead to fat loss... fun fact.SCARRING TREATMENTS:#1 SUBCISION - this involves severing the fibrotic bands that hold the acne scars down and worsens the depression, a needle is inserted under the skin (cannula) to sever the bans, the scar raises and improves the appearance. Several sessions are needed, best done with filler such as HA Filler, or Sculptra. Filler stops the scar bands from re-tethering after the procedure. Results are permanent. Subcision also stimulates♦ Subcision is used for all scar types but works especially well for rolling acne scars.#2 TCA Cross - TCA is an acid. The acid is applied to a needle head or toothpick and placed within a boxcar or icepick scar. This creates a controlled injury and as you heal your own collagen is stimulated and it reduced the depth of the scar. Initially the scar can widen - though Phenol cross doesn't do this, see Dr. Rullan. Several treatments needed.♦ Excellent for icepick and boxcar scars.#3 RF Microneedling - much like microneedling however, the needles are insulated and deliver heat into the skin which stimulates collagen significantly more than traditional microneedling. It also doesn't result in microtears in the skin.♦ Excellent for ALL scar types#4 Fully ablative laser or deep peel - to finish off. This is done at the very end of the treatment plan for texture - you don't pave a road before filling in potholes.LOADS OF SCARRING INFO AND HELP! Thought I’d share this possible game changer I’ve stumbled upon! [acne]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So, I’ve always been a coffee drinker, never liked tea until recently. I started drinking green tea with honey, and now I love it, I drink probably five cups a day lol. After about a week of guzzling green tea like my life depends on it, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my skin. I have mild adult acne, nothing major, but I almost always have some active breakouts, especially on my jawline. Ive noticed less and less breakouts (only one small pimple on my jawline at the moment!!), and my skin is far less oily! I did some research, and found that quite a few others out there have connected the improvements in their skin to green tea.So anyway, I highly recommend giving it a shot!

[MISC] For everyone who broke out from Stratia Liquid Gold this is for you! (Alternatives)

Hey guys! So we often hear people raving about the amazing Stratia Liquid Gold by the amazing acid queen. That has the perfect ceramide ratio of 3:1:1. And this stuff is amazing! [PSA] Vaping and breakouts - I want to bring this up!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone,I really want to bring this up in the hopes to maybe help someone out who was going through this.Long story short - I got sober about 1.5 years ago and was smoking cigarettes. My skin looked amazing. I’m 28 years old and never really had skin problems. About 8 months ago I switched over to a juul. I didn’t realize it at the time but my skin started to deteriorate. Slowly, but it was getting worse and worse.Over the past 6 months I’ve seen my skin go from perfect to having cysts come up on my face. Over the last 3 months I’ve been really trying to figure out what is going on with my skin. Trying out new products etc. But my skin was just literally getting worse no matter what I did. On top of that it was always extremely dry and sensitive. So 1 month ago I straight up has a panic attach looking at my face. I’m just confused and I have NO IDEA what is going on. I’m 28 years old...why am I having cystic breakouts and my skin is not healing properly. At first, when I thought vaping could be a culprit my skin wasn’t so bad at the time and I thought to myself, why would vaping effect my skin it’s better than smoking? Right? Wrong. After I had the freak out I decided to look back at when the breakouts started and try to pinpoint wtf is going on. So I thought vaping could be the culprit. I googled vaping and cystic acne, and low and behold there are tons of stories of switching to a vape and cystic acne occurring.,..This was more than enough of a motivation to just throw away the vape. So I did. I threw it away and I haven’t looked back. Within days I noticed my skin getting its normal color and texture back, acne was healing up fast.I’m back on a very simple routine to help heal my face after these past couple months. I’ll maybe add an AHA in after a month or two more but I just want my face to heal right now.I don’t know what in vaping lead this to happen. Some say it’s a high PG content or whatever, I don’t really care and whatever the hell it was it was ruining my face. Literally... also, it wasn’t a reaction where I woke up after my first day with the vape and it was horrible, it crept on extremely slowly from little breakouts to cystic acne within 4-6 months. Sure quitting wasn’t easy, but I’m an ex addict so I’m kinda used to withdrawing and also all I had to do was look at my face and that was more than enough of motivation.I’m hoping this helps someone who is possibly going through the same thing. I thought it would be my duty to explain this with the hopes it could help someone.....

[Review] Empties - A comparison of CeraVe Baby Lotion and Baby Cream

Beauty Tips For Body Care
CeraVe Baby Lotion & Baby Cream I’ve been in love with the CeraVe Baby Lotion for a while so I figured it was time to try out the Cream! As usual I meant to do this comparison months ago, but waited so long that it became an Empties review ¯\_(ツ)_/¯For reference, my skin type is overall ‘normal’ - dry in the winter, oily in the summer. I like lightweight, matte lotions for the AM, and very heavy thick goopy creams for the PM. CeraVe Baby LotionPrice: ~$8.99 for 8oz Ingredients: Active Ingredient: Dimethicone 1% (Skin protectant)Inactive Ingredients: Purified Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetostearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Emulsifying Wax, Phenoxyethanol, Niacinamide, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Ceramide 1, Hyaluronic Acid, Allantoin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lauric Acid, Zinc Citrate, Polygylceryl-3 Diisotearate, Behentrimonium methosulfate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Arginine PCA, Potassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, EDTA, Sodium PCA, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, EthylhexylglycerinTaken from my bottle - I might have an older formula since the ingredients list on the CeraVe site doesn’t have phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin, not sure if there was a reformulation or what Special Info: fragrance-free, paraben-free, accepted by the National Eczema Association Review: I was having a tough time finding a good AM moisturizer - a lot of lightweight lotions were the moisturizer equivalent of thoughts & prayers, and a lot of moisturizers that actually, yknow, moisturized were a bit too shiny. So I picked this bad boy up after reading f.c.’s review (and because up until that point I hadn’t tried any CeraVe products at all, which I do believe revokes your ScA membership.) Ingredients of note: SkinCarisma breakdown (my bottle)Chock full of all sorts of moisturizing ingredients likedimethicone (skin protectant, prevents TEWL)caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (emollient, has a mix of fatty acids)fatty alcohols like cetearyl & cetyl alcohol (which are great moisturizing ingredients),hyaluronic acid (humectant)vitamin Eallantoin (skin protectant)niacinamide (niacinamide wiki)and ceramides 3, 6 II, and 1For some overviews on ceramides, check out Ceramides - What the eff are they and why are they in my cream (Lab Muffin) and Are ceramides good anti-aging ingredients? (The Beauty Brains), the latter of which comes with this beautiful quote:Did you know that newborn infants, especially premature ones, may be born with a waxy or cheese-like coating on their skin that prevents them from losing too much moisture? That coating is called the vernix caseosa and it is composed, primarily, of ceramides.Great. That’s….that’s great. Thanks. Texture & scent: A rather stiff lotion; it has a very light, ‘clean’ scent - not clean as in “I have used a clean-smelling product, now I smell like lemons and alcohol”, but clean as in...freshly washed baby skin?, which is a weird way of putting it. It’s nice, not overwhelming, feels appropriate for the product, and there’s no way for me to describe it without maybe sounding like a serial killer. Packaging: The pump top is really nice - doesn’t plop out too much product, isn’t hard to push, and it never gets too gunky. Because the lotion is pretty thick, it does get stuck to the sides and you can scoop out a whole lot after the product is ‘done.’ Experience: 10/10, HG to end all HGs, I have not stopped using this lotion once since I picked it up the first time. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve repurchased it, and it’s the one thing in my routine that has remained a constant while countless sunscreens, moisturizers, and actives get switched up and swapped out. Even while trying out different AM lotions that hit certain needs better than the CeraVe Baby Lotion, I always end up using it somewhere in my routine, and I find that it’s absolutely perfect most of the time. It’s gorgeous. Thick yet somehow lightweight, matte while still being moisturizing. It goes on like a dream - spreads easily, layers perfectly, dries down to a beautiful skin like finish. While I do find myself needing more layers when my skin is extra dry, it never gets shinier no matter how many layers I use. On one particularly bored day I layered this shit 6 times and it never felt even a bit heavier, never lost the matte finish, never pilled. It doesn’t look like I’ve slathered on a vat of moisturizer, my skin just looks good.Little blopSpread outAfter drydownIn the summer my skin can get a bit oily and while this certainly doesn’t control oil, it didn’t add to it. It doesn’t feel smothering or overly heavy - although it is more noticeable than when my skin is dry - and I can still get away with multiple layers if I wanted. While I’m starting to branch out into moisturizers meant to actually control oil, I keep coming back to this when I won’t be sweating a lot, and I’ve found it to be an especially good PM moisturizer on very hot and humid days.I will say that it’s not particularly well tailored to the extreme ends of the skin type spectrum - I find myself having to use multiple layers or a different moisturizer when my skin is extra dry, and while it’s not shiny, I don’t think it would make a good AM lotion for very oily skin. But it hits the majority of the bell curve in a way that I haven’t found in most other moisturizers, and even when it doesn’t fill a niche perfectly, it still manages to fit in somewhere else. tl;dr: this is just a great versatile lotion that I think would work well for a variety of skin types. It works well as an AM lotion for normal to dry skin, and I feel that it would work well as a PM lotion for those with oily skin. Layers well, dries down beautifully, actually moisturizes. Rating: 5/5 CeraVe Baby CreamPrice: ~$8.99 for 5oz Ingredients: Active ingredient: Dimethicone 1.2%Inactive ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Petrolatum, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6 II, Ceramide 1, Hyaluronic Acid, Cholesterol, Phenoxyethanol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Potassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Disodium EDTA, Phytosphingosine, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Sodium HydroxideTaken from my bottle - the ingredients list on the CeraVe website seems very short Special Info: fragrance-free, paraben-free Review: I’m always on the lookout for a good, heavy PM moisturizer (especially during the winter), and figured since the Baby Lotion knocked it out of the park I might as well give the Cream a shot! Ingredients of note: SkinCarisma breakdown (my bottle, the listing on skincarisma doesn't totally match)Has many of the same moisturizing ingredients as the Baby Lotion (dimethicone, ceramides, fatty alcohols, etc.) but also includes glycerin (humectant) and petrolatum, which is a fantastic occlusive ingredient great at preventing TEWL. Texture & scent: A somewhat stiff cream that’s not as stiff as the Lotion, but holds that whipped cream dollop form pretty well; same scent as the Lotion (...clean baby skin) Packaging: The tube is nice and the product doesn’t gunk up at the opening, but the cream is very thick and a lot is left in the tube when the product is ‘done.’ Can be a bit difficult to get product when you’re approaching the end, which somehow results in wet fart noises. Overall, a fun experience Experience: I was really hoping for something Very Fucking Moisturizing, but this is primarily CeraVe Baby Lotion with just a little teeny tiny bit extra. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between the two for a few months until the weather changed and the Cream finally found its niche. It’s an excellent cream - feels lightweight, is slightly more moisturizing than the Lotion, applies easily, layers well, all the good stuff. It doesn’t dry down totally matte but it’s not particularly greasy. It’s just a good bland cream that has all the things I absolutely love about the Lotion while being the slightest bit more moisturizing.Little blopSpread outAfter drydown - I couldn’t quite capture the bit of shine here, but it is there! It’s just not particularly greasy. While I was hoping for something heavier as a PM moisturizer, it really shined in the AM during a Fucking Hell It’s Cold period. The Lotion was nice but wasn’t quite cutting it, and my skin was pretty dull and sad. Using the Cream instead of the Lotion gave all the same benefits - lightweight, moisturizing, easy to layer - but added a bit of glow that made me look slightly less Lady Stoneheart. tl;dr: A nice bland cream that’s very similar to the Baby Lotion. I feel that this would be a good AM moisturizer for dry skin, and a good PM moisturizer for normal skin. Rating: 4/5  Both the Baby Cream and Baby Lotion are fantastic products - quite moisturizing without feeling heavy, easy to apply, and easy to layer. While the Lotion is more matte and the Cream is slightly shinier and slightly more moisturizing, owning both at the same time does feel redundant. As far as ingredients go, they share a lot of the good stuff: ceramides 3, 6-II, and 1, hyaluronic acid, cetyl alcohol, caprylic/capric triglyceride. The Cream does have some nice extras like glycerin and petrolatum, but the Lotion is (imo) bringing more to the table with the additions of niacinamide, allantoin, and tocopheryl acetate. For me personally, I might keep the Cream on hand during the winter, but I’ll be using the Lotion all year long - as an AM lotion in the fall, winter, and spring; and as a PM lotion in the summer. While I obviously prefer the Lotion, you really can’t go wrong with the Cream either - both are a good choice!Comparison pics

[Routine Help] Moisture barrier repair. Is patience the key here?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys, My skin barrier has been damaged for three years. Prior to that, I was using a lot of benzoyl peroxide (5%) without moisturising AND while using drying foaming cleansers. It has been feeling tight and irritated all the time since then. Six months ago, I knew about the moisture barrier and skin dehydration. I have been using products to target there issues for about 4 months now and no promising results are showing, apart from sometimes feeling less tight.Current routine: Am: -wash with water -urea cream (10%)Pm -wash with warm water in the shower -Avene 89 (hyaluronic acid serum) -urea cream -vaseline (every other night maybe)I live in Egypt so many products are not accessible. We have a lot of european brands though (lrp, avene, vichy, bioderma, sebamed). So if you can describe ingredients along with products that would be really appreciated :)

[MISC] Anyone have recommendations for products with mainly plastic-free packaging?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
As we all know plastic is very difficult to recycle, and I'd prefer packaging made of any other material (glass, metal, wood, paper, etc).I'm primarily looking for moisturisers and cleansers (maybe some face-friendly soap?), but recommendations for anything is welcome. I use many The Ordinary products in glass bottles with minimal plastic, it's nearly impossible to cut out plastic use entirely to get a skincare routine of any worth, but I want to know what my possibilities are!I'd appreciate any recommendation of brands or specific products!

[acne] shaving with acne - how do I do it?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I have moderate acne on my face and I also need to shave it but I can’t! Thank god my cheeks barely get any facial hair so it’s not super visible but I need to shave eventually, but I have a fair amount of acne there. How do y’all shave your skin with acne? Is an electric razor better than a manual one? (I use a Gillette 5 blade one I think or smth like that and a sensitive skin shaving cream with aloe).

[Misc] What would you say is the one thing (not product) that has changed your skincare routine for the better?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
It’s always fun to see the different routine steps people do to make their skincare routine the best it can be. We’re all different with different skin therefore different products, but it’s nice hearing about new techniques. For me I’d say it’s putting my moisturizer on when my face is damp as well as just putting on every product slowly and with purpose. I used to wash my face as quickly and as vigorously as I could just to get it done but now I do the 60 second rule for cleansing, and then slowly massage in everything else like moisturizer (face and body), sunscreen, serums, and my face makeup (BB/CC cream as I like using my fingers over brushes & sponges). What are your favorite techniques that have helped you greatly in achieving happier skin?

[Acne] PSA: Not All Sensodyne Is SLS free!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Note: SLS = Sodium Lauryl Sulfate for those who haven't heard of SLS before.Over the past six months I have persistent acne around my mouth specifically where laugh lines end before the chin (a bit away from the mouth corners) and on my actual lip lines. The acne looks almost like a cold sore --- white-heads/pustules that start red and come to a head really quickly but leave a red mark for weeks or months.I thought I was in the clear with SLS. I stopped shampooing since my shampoo had SLS. This helped a bit but it's still a problem.Because I had Sensodyne I didn't even check my toothpaste. It's common for people online to just recommend Sensodyne but not be more specific than that.Nope. Sensodyne Complete Protection does have SLS in it. I'm going to the store right now!I will keep you posted.Check the labels!Edit: Sensodyne Pro-Enamel is the one you should get to eliminate SLS.

[review] Tear trough and cheek fillers experience

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I wanted to share my experience with fillers since when I was researching it I wished there were more posts about this on here that I can learn from.I have a very skinny face and no matter how much weight I gain my face still looked malnourished. I clearly needed volume and I don't think there are any creams and products that can help me with that so I went the fillers route. I went in for cheek fillers and tear trough. I went to a registered nurse who opened her own practice specialized in Botox and filler injections. She had rave reviews and her price was much cheaper compared to plastic surgeon.I experienced no real pain. I felt the needle go in and the first pump of the product. Nothing to wince about. The next day I felt a little soreness when I smile but there was absolutely no bruising. She used a canula for both fillers. Results: I can definitely see the cheek fillers I look much healthier. The tear trough result is very minimal. I see an improvement but I didn't feel a wow factor.Prices: $350 volbella tear trough & $530 volure cheek fillerI'm happy with the over all experience. 10/10 would do again.I'm happy to answer any questions.

[product question] high-end products that are TRULY worth the splurge?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
hi everyone!recently i've been browsing some higher end products and i've been wondering if they actually work. it's been some time that i've wanted to splurge on something nice to treat myself with, but after wasting a lot of money on skincare that either doesn't work, or doesn't work on my skin, i've come to really question the transparency of some brands and the true quality of their products. some people say "price = quality" but that isn't necessarily true. higher end products usually get better packaging/marketing/pr and that often reinforces the idea that high end products are the "be all end all".obviously that isn't true.there are plenty of budget-friendly products out there that you can purchase for under $50 that work amazingly well. the price of a product may be an indicator for quality, but it doesn't always define it. this may include commonly-known brands such as neutrogena, l'oréal, the ordinary, and even e.l.f.as someone who loves and believes in shiseido, history of whoo, and sekkisei, it's clear that high end products have their benefits. quality of ingredients (and potency of active ingredients) tend to be higher. but it's also clear that some high end products have been a complete letdown.my question is, what are some products that you seriously are worth the splurge? what products have you invested in and that have really changed your skincare game?

[Misc] A Concern With This Sub...

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Something I’ve been noticing recently is how incredibly condescending and rude many of the users in this sub can be when responding to others’ posts or inquiries. I’ve experienced this firsthand and have observed it on other users posts, and it’s equally astounding. When someone is truly just asking for help or looking for support, especially if they’re relatively new to skincare/this sub, it is so incredibly disheartening and also plain unhelpful when people respond in the ways I’ve been noticing. I’ve always seen SkincareAddiction as a place for people to go to when they’re in need and looking for calm advice/encouragement. I’ve never before felt so uncomfortable with responses on Reddit as I have in this sub lately.I think it’s awesome there are people who have spent a lot of time and energy educating themselves about skin and feel that they have a place to share that knowledge with others. But think about how you’re communicating that. And think about the fact that these aren’t bots posting in this sub, these are real people behind a screen with feelings. And those feelings can get especially fragile when their skin concerns weigh heavily on them. Maybe you’d argue it’s “tough love” but unless you’re a close family member or friend I don’t want it.At the end of the day, unless you’re a medically trained/certified dermatologist, you have no right to speak to another person in a condescending manner. And furthermore, I can’t imagine someone would feel comfortable continuing to seek help from a rude doctor of any kind.TL;DR-People’s responses in this subreddit are often condescending, overly opinionated, and unhelpful. It’s making the environment unwelcoming and uncomfortable.I’d love if we could speak each other as fellow human beings :)

I'm in the marktet for a OTC azelaic acid. The two most easily available in my country are The Ordinary and Paula's Choice. I've heard nothing but good things about PC but I could buy 5(!) tubes of TO for that price. However, I've heard that TO azelaic acid is a little hard to apply as it's prone to pill and very sillicone-y... Anyone any experiences?

[Product Question] Let’s talk about facial steamers

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everybody!First of all, I want to say how much I appreciate this community of fellow skincare lovers and self-care geeks. You guys rock! What is your opinion on facial steamers? I‘m thinking of getting one because I am kind of assembling an “at home mini spa”. However it seems like opinions are mixed. So here are a few questions:What’s your take on facial steamers? Amazing skin treatment or total waste of money? On Amazon, there is a highly rated one by OKACHI which is also the on Safiya Nygaard used in her latest video. She really seemed to like it. However you can’t add any essential oils to the water. Do you think that is a dealbreaker? Or would you say it’s not so important to add things to the water since you do your routine after the steam treatment?Alternatively, most of the inhalator-type ones can be used with oils which is great for when you have a cold. But quite a few people in the reviews seem to be saying they don’t produce as much steam as steamers with a nozzle. What do you guys think? And is there an inhalator-type steamer you can personally recommend? Finally, this is either really dumb or just plain genius: What about using a garment steamer on your face from a safe distance? Mine has attachments so I would be removing those before using it on my face to keep things hygienic and I would test for the optimal distance with my arm first. It sounds logical to me, after all steam is steam! But maybe I’m missing something here and I don’t want to experiment without hearing your opinions first.I hope our collective expertise can shed some light on this. :)

[Misc] Community's negative treatment of 'natural' skincare, and those asking for 'natural' product recommendations

Beauty Tips For Body Care
TL;DR - Let's be more inclusive of 'natural' skincare products and those who are seeking them out! This is something I myself have been incredibly guilty of in the past, but has always been a trend of this sub. While I think the collective eye roll whenever someone posts- "Recs for chemical-free products?" is justified (yes, chemicals are everywhere and everything, even 'natural' rose-water...) but I feel as though whenever someone has justifiable concerns about controversial ingredients they are verbally slapped down by the hoards of down-votes and snarky comments (why would you be concerned about ingredient X it's totally safe").While every one is entitled to their own opinion, I think we do a great disservice by shunning anyone who has concerns about controversial ingredients that are included in products. A great example is the recent FDA statement on sunscreens. According to the preliminary report, all chemical filters in the US market are not yet considered 'safe' pending further review, and only physical blockers were considered safe due to the scientific evidence backing them. As someone who has genuine concerns about chemical filters and asked for physical sunscreen recs, I have been absolutely, well, bitched out, by those claiming that chemical sunscreens are totally safe, and only 'junk' or 'pseudo' science studies have shown them to be dangerous. But here is the thing: there are plenty of ingredients that have been even slightly linked to health concerns that I would frankly rather not use if I don't have to... and with skincare I don't have to!Not trying to convince anyone of anything, I know people are set in their own opinions, but before jumping on people asking for/reviewing 'natural' products as naive conspiracy theorists, consider what I personally find worrisome. This is a statement from the FDA (regulatory agency for cosmetics in the USA):"cosmetic products and ingredients, other than color additives, do not need FDA approval before they go on the market."Yes, ingredients do not have to be proven safe before they go to market. While you may or may not disagree with this practice, this means that in the case of newer ingredients especially, we are human testers. If an ingredient (take, for example, Phthalates) have raised concern even in animal studies, I would personally rather not risk it. Moreover, if studies showing the danger of an ingredient do start to become more prevalent, the FDA is NOT one to take action quickly to prevent public health, and will ALWAYS err on the side of letting a potentially dangerous product stay on the market for longer. Remember, they are NOT there solely to protect the consumer, they also protect the companies that manufacture and sell these products. See their statement about how they might be convinced to 'take action' if an ingredient is becoming controversial:"However, to take action against a cosmetic for safety reasons, we must have reliable scientific information showing that the product is harmful when consumers use it according to directions on the label or in the customary way."Which brings me to my last point: 'use it according to directions on the label.' Many of us use far more product than it technically recommended (who even abides by the labels in most cases?) Alongside this, ingredients in scientific studies (especially studies funded by the manufactures, which many positive outcome studies are) are tested IN ISOLATION. They are not tested as we use them in the real world- as part of a product's ingredient cocktail. They also normally mention these ingredients are safe when used "in the small amounts normally found in products," however this does not take into account that people use more than one product (many more in most cases) nor does it acknowledge other places these chemicals are found in our daily lives (food, drinks, detergents, soaps, air fresheners, lotions.... etc.) So once again, IF I can avoid a potentially harmful chemical, I choose to in my life. Skincare is a place I can easily prune out ingredients I personally find compelling enough to dump.So what is my point here? Definitely not to convince anyone. I think people do their own research and reach their own conclusions. If you are interested, Netflix has a documentary called Stink! that is an interesting watch, and I personally enjoy running ingredients through the Environmental Working Group website, which links to scientific studies on ingredients. HOWEVER if you do NOT agree with this or do not care... that is TOTALLY and COMPLETELY fine! My point is we SHOULD be more inclusive of different outlooks on skincare. We are such proponents on YMMV (your mileage may vary) and I think by shooting down 'natural' products due to some ideological outlook, we are eliminating a huge set of skincare products that many might find work incredibly well with their skin. I know my skin looks better than it ever has using more 'natural' products, so it could help others as well! Finally for those who are interested and to put my money where my mouth is, here is my current lineup of natural skincare products:AM:Mad Hippie Hydrating Misthttps://www.madhippie.com/products/hydrating-nutrient-mistEvan Healy Rose Facial Sprayhttps://www.evanhealy.com/rose-geranium-facial-tonic-hydrosoul-c.htmlPMCleanse with Manuka Honeyhttps://wedderspoon.com/Mad Hippie Hydrating MistEvan Healy Rose Facial SprayNOW brand (generic Natural Grocers) Grapeseed Oil

Not picking my face is working...who knew. [misc]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Obviously there’s sarcasm in that title, but it’s true. 80% of my acne/red marks are due to me picking, and 20% is hormonal. I’ve gone two days with touching my face only twice, rather than the usual 54,304 times, and I definitely notice a difference. It was hard but I did it... but... I NEED MORE SELF CONTROL TO KEEP THIS UP. I don’t know if I can.How do you not touch your face after YEARS of touching?

[Personal] Going out in public without concealer today

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been following this sub for a while, but this is my first post! I've been dealing with acne since middle school, and to my dismay, it's followed me into my 20s. I've been managing it with Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide (formerly brand-named Epiduo) for the past few years. Last year when my prescription ran out, my face had cleared up pretty well, so I tried going without it for a few months. I thought I had finally conquered my acne.Unfortunately, it came back with a vengeance. I went back on the prescription in November, and it's taken a while, but I am seeing the results now! This morning I was getting ready for church and, for the first time in months, I looked in the mirror and thought, "You know, I could go out without using any concealer today." It's not a huge deal, but it's a small victory and I wanted to share it with you guys here :)

[Personal] Rant

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Does anyone ever feel like acne just controls their life? can’t use this, can’t use that, can’t eat ANYTHING without the fear of it causing a breakout because that is me, all the time. My skin was looking pretty great up until I had a trip away, it wasn’t that easy to eat as I do at home but I did try and because i wanted to enjoy myself too I also ate things I wouldn’t touch at home, frozen yogurt, cheese, desserts. And now I think my face hates me. Chin, jawline and forehead pimple galore. My skin is dry, I moisturise, moisturiser breaks me out, I eat any form of dairy or pork and I breakout. JUST AS IT WAS ALL CLEARING UP. I’m so fucked off and just don’t have the patience to deal with the aftermath of what should have been a time to enjoy myself and not have to worry about my acne flaring up 😭

[Miscellaneous] For my birthday, I’m allowed to choose 1 high-end skincare product. Can you help me decide?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I hope this post is allowed...wasn’t too sure which flair is most appropriate. My birthday is coming up and I asked my husband for one high-end skincare product. I’m having a hard time deciding what to ask for. My skin type is oily and my biggest concerns are redness around my nose, mild acne scarring on cheeks, and large pores/sebaceous filaments.I’ve debated asking for the SK-II facial treatment essence or the Sunday Riley Good Genes serum. These are the most familiar “luxury” products I can think of. I want something that will last a while (aka worth the high price!) and that will make the biggest difference for my skin.Does anyone have any recommendations? Looking to stay around $120 USD.Thank you!

[acne] [success story] 10 day transformation [fungal acne]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello!First of all before I begin I want to apologize in advance for any grammar mistakes as I’m sure I’ll make some, but English is my 3rd language.I don’t usually post on here,I’m more of a silent member that reads everyone’s posts, reviews and so on.Anyhow after almost two years of going to different doctors starting from my PCP to dermatologist I’ve been wrongly diagnosed so many times on my skin condition.I had breakouts on my forhead, cheeks, jaw line, neck, chest and sometimes on my upper back.I’ve been told I have an adult acne, heat rash, allergy, allergic reaction and follicle infection.Over the course of almost two years I’ve been on antibiotics, topical and oral steroids, all kinds of creams and nothing seemed to help. I was helpless...After literally trying everything including AHA/BHA and spending money on different types of products that didn’t seem to help either (or would make my breakout worse) I decided to look further into “fungal acne” to see if that’s maybe what I have so I started to read more and more about it.Well on my last visit AFTER I requested for my dermatologist to do in depth test to see if I have it it turns out in fact that this is it...Even my doctor got shocked with the result as she said she would never diagnose me with it?!My worst enemy this entire time was fungal acne and now at least I knew how I can try to fight it and prevent it.Since being diagnosed with it i stopped using ALL OF THE PRODUCTS that I was previously using and decided to use only very few FA safe products and keep it very minimal.*This is my AM/PM routine I did during the last fungal breakout;*-Nizoral (did it two days on the row than every 3rd day)-mild face wash-sal 3 sulfur soap spot treatment (used it on affected areas only).-Leven rose tea tree water toner (It helped me so much with reducing the redness)-purito Centella green level buffet serum-Hada Labo skin plumbing gel cream (it has 3% urea in it so it’s a really great and effective moisturizer)( I also used Ziaja Med 3% urea face cream but since I ran out of it I only kept on using Hada Labo gel cream since it also have same percentage of urea in it )And at the end of the night before I go to bed I’d spray one more time my tea tree toner.I started using above products together at the same time since day 1.On day 4 I couldn’t believe my eyes as my face improved A LOT.On day 10th I couldn’t even tell I had something on my face!!Now two and a half weeks later my skin is free of breakouts you guys!I included to my routine after two weeks drunk elephant Tlc mini facial too as well as acne free sulfur mask.I decided to post on here and share with you guys my story and how I treated that nasty fungal breakouts read as my worst enemy for the past two years.Maybe my routine will help another person to get rid of it too.here are my progression pics

Beauty Tips For Body Care
i haven’t shaved my face since i started my new routine where i’m trying to repair my moisture barrier. i’ve cut off all irritating and drying ingredients and habits. since shaving is a form of physical exfoliation, is it ok for me to do it everyday when my skin is dehydrated? i usually do it as part of my night routine, so straight after i shave my skin will be cleansed and i’ll apply a shit ton of moisturiser.

Link to some comments. My stomach just dropped reading those posts. I have had severe acne on and off for 15 years, I'm almost 28 and still dealing with it. Suggesting that someone's face is so awful to look at that you need it marked NSFW is just so disgusting. I don't even have words. So to anyone reading this sub with those type of thoughts, you need to get the fuck over yourself, focus less on cerave in the tub and more on fixing your shitty personality. And to anyone struggling with acne, this is just a reminder that your worth is inherent as a human being and has nothing to do with the texture of your skin, and you are all beautiful in my eyes.

[Humor] CeraVe in the tub-HORRIBLE experience

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I've been reading on this sub for a while now and I've seen so much lauding of CeraVe in the tub for superior and cost effective body moisturization. I thought I'd follow suit.Upon getting the CeraVe I dispensed it into my bathtub slowly and let the water run. Definitely wasn't expecting the super oily residue! Talk about those emollients. So after the tub was full I proceeded to get in and relax as usual.I spent the 10 minutes watching my newly added CeraVe lotion residue float around on the surface of the water, thinking "wow, so this is what everyone on the sub is raving about?" I definitely was skeptical, but assumed the kick came from the after-effect, when I left the bath after absorbing the water-dissolved CeraVe lotion from the bath into my skin. You know, because hot water opens pores and helps it enter.Upon draining and leaving the tub, to my dismay I quickly found my skin to be dry and chapped after leaving the bathroom! At that point I really wondered how on earth this whole CeraVe in the tub thing could gain so much popularity when it simply floats in the hot water and the bath dries your skin out! When I went back to Target, I told them how I added it to the bath tub and it didn't do anything helpful! They looked bewildered for some reason but quickly gave me my money back.Needless to say, I think this sub needs to think more thoroughly about what's promoted as a hot trend. Skincare should work and be good for our money's worth.I hope you all have considered this recount thoroughly, and I am looking forward to seeing new, more effective methods posted on here.
