Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! This is my first post here. I think this is a wonderful sub and I’ve learned so much here. I felt compelled to share an experience that I had today at my dermatologist’s office.I went in for acne that I’ve had around my chin for about 2 months. Nothing too terrible, but it’s persistent. Naturally, the Dr and her assistant asked about my skincare routine. AM: Cerave Hydrating Cleanser, Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence sunscreen, Hydrocortisone if I need it (I have seb derm)PM: Cerave Hydrating Cleanser, Cerave PM. Occasionally I use Stridex (red box) or the Aztec clay mask to help with breakoutsI was honest about what I use, what’s working, and that I’m open to changing up my routine if needed. They said my skincare routine was “aggressive” and that my skin was “traumatized.” I was surprised by this because I’ve done a lot of research to simplify my routine.I also asked about redness that’s concentrated on my cheeks. They pushed a laser treatment called Excel V, which costs over $500. I told them I couldn’t afford that and would rather try to get to the root of the problem first. I’ve only had this problem for a few years, maybe it’s triggered by something? When I suggested this, they looked at me like I was an idiot and continued to push the laser treatment, offering me a slight discount and package deal.I asked if it could be rosacea. The Dr said it’s not (in a dismissive tone) because I don’t have the red bumps that come with rosacea. Then later, she said it might be rosacea, just with broken blood vessels and no bumps. She didn’t try to rule anything out, make a diagnosis, or suggest anything other than the laser treatment. At one point, the Dr asked her assistant, “What’s your skincare routine?” as if to teach me a lesson about my “aggressive” skincare. This especially annoyed me because the assistant was clearly wearing makeup. If I had gone in wearing makeup, maybe I wouldn’t have been scolded for having “traumatized” skin!As the Dr got up, she said, “Goodbye. I really hope you get the laser.”I was pretty much in tears when I left. For a relatively minor issue! I’m not normally sensitive but it made me feel so shitty. I could never imagine talking to a client that way. Sorry this was long, but I wanted to share my experience in a space that might understand. I feel like r/SkincareAddiction is a pretty supportive and helpful sub.TL;DR: I went to the dermatologist to resolve relatively minor acne and instead was scolded about my skincare routine and continually pushed do to expensive treatments.
