Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all! With the influx of some really amazing posts regarding cruelty-free skincare, the effect of palm-oil on the environment, the corruption of Nestle and subsequent boycott, awareness of microplastics and micro beads in skincare, and low-waste beauty (whew!) I was inspired to make a list of some products that fit all of the above criteria. Obviously, it's a work-in-progress, and I can't always find all the info I need, but I thought it would be a good start, and maybe we can work as a community to build it up. Suggestions/corrections are always appreciated!!https://i.redd.it/knw1honekvt21.pngSide note: the palm oil score is based on a scale of 1-9, with 9 being the best.*While TBS has sustainability goals, the company's performance in reaching these goals hasn't been great.https://www.greenbiz.com/article/body-shop-delivers-mixed-performance-against-green-goals**I couldn't find any info definitely confirming that TO is earth-friendly, but I would still recommend it because a) their ingredients are ethically sourced, and b) Most of their products come in glass jars that can easily be upcycled.***Bareminerals doesn't have any confirming evidence either, however the company who owns Bareminerals (Shiseido) does have a sustainability plan: https://www.shiseidogroup.com/sustainability/about/ . I also found a more non-toxic dupe for Bareminerals called Everyday Minerals, just an fyi.**** Same situation as Bareminerals: the parent company P&G actually has an awesome sustainability plan going:https://sustainablebrands.com/read/organizational-change/p-g-smashes-2020-goals-raises-the-bar-with-ambition-2030***** No mention of any sustainability plan as far packaging goes, but their ingredients are non-toxic: https://supergoop.com/pages/ingredients-youll-never-see-in-supergoop-productsThe vast majority of these brands have include recycling programs where you can send them the empty jars/containers. Pacifica will even give you rewards points for doing so!Palm-oil score was found using http://palmoilscorecard.panda.org/check-the-scores . Of course, the use of micro-beads and micro plastics will vary by product, with the exception of Alba Botanica who specified on their website that no micro-beads are used. (No mention of microplastics though). Use this website to check: beatthemicrobead.orgAlso, as a side note, here is a small sample of brands that are owned (either partially or outright) by Nestle:Keihls, LRP, Cerave, Cetaphil. I included this just because I used to love these brands and was really suprised to see them involved with Nestle. Finally, here's a nifty little article about how easy it is to use sustainable beauty products:https://www.allure.com/story/sustainable-beauty-routineOkay, that's all for now. Thanks for reading!
