Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello all!I have never posted here before but have lingered for a long time. Backstory, so I'm a 23 yo male and have suffered from moderate to severe acne since I was around 14. How bad it was really varied with sometimes only having 5-10 small pimples to 10-15 small and cystic pimples. I have very fair skin so even after the acne resolved, I had redness lasting months afterwards. After graduating college my acne began to get consistently worse. I had tried numerous systems and had limited luck. The one that I stuck to for a few years was 10% benzyl peroxide daily which left my skin very dry but seemed to help with the acne. However I found that this no longer seemed to help. My mother who works at a pharmacy told me to try Differin. So I gave it a shot just before Thanksgiving, this was my beginning routine and I have changed it slightly since.AMCetaphyl gentle cleanserCetaphyl moisturing lotion (green pump)Neutrogena dry sunscreen (if I remembered, I was kind of bad about using this)PMCetaphyl gentle cleanserDifferinCetaphyl moisturing lotion againDuring the first month I noticed that my skin was getting worse and was very sensitive. My face was noticably redder and flaky until I added lotion. They call this the purge period so I wasn't too concerned however I did look quite bad for Christmas. However, as their website states, my face did look much better about 2.5 months in. It was like a switch had turned on, no new acne formed and the existing acne seemed to resolve quicker.Around the three month mark I was still having trouble with sensitivity and burning so I began to experiment with moisturizers. I heard rave reviews for the cera ve PM lotion and began to use it in the morning and at night. It rubbed in easily but did not do much to moisturize my skin. I used the lotion in the morning and kept using the cetaphyl at night. However, the combination did little to help my condition. I like to swim and I was getting tired of needing to quit early because my face burned so badly from the chlorine.Final change: I caved and finally listened to my girlfriend who swore by aveeno. I used the aveeno lotion and for the first time in this process it didn't burn to put on lotion. Within about 3 days my skin felt just incredible and well hydrated. I felt stupid because I wasted all this time suffering when I didn't have to. I have also incorporated within the last two weeks a salicylic acid 2.0 wash in the morning. I have noticed that my skin can look a bit dull, I believe due to the buildup of dead skin on the surface. The SA wash certainly helps. I have had no adverse affects using both SA and Differin.Final routineAMcetaphyl gentle cleanserNeutrogena oil free acne stress controlaveeno moisturizing lotionneutropenia dry sunscreenPMcetaphyl gentle cleanserdifferinaveeno moisturizing lotionFinal Thought: To anyone thinking of trying differin, I have to recommend it based on my own experience. I can honestly say that not much I tried before really worked. Having acne for so long really knocked my self esteem (although my wonderful girlfriend never seemed to mind) but being acne free makes me feel much more confident. Don't expect to see results until about 3 months. Don't expect the results to be gradual either, mine certainly got worse before it got better. Also don't be afraid to experiment a bit with your routine. I wish I had experimented sooner, I just assumed that the stinging was just something I would have to deal with but it turns out I could have saved myself months of heart ache by just switching sooner.
