Beauty Tips For Body Care
I rarely see people with deeper skin tones reviewing products, so I thought this would be helpful for anyone struggling with the same issues (or for anyone who's just curious!)This post is kinda long as I wanted to properly talk about my skin and the products. TL;DR: The Salicylic Acid 2% Solution got rid of my closed comedones and acne. The Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% has evened out my skin tone and got rid of my PIH.B&A: https://imgur.com/a/Uz75xVk3 months ago, I was really fed up with my skin. Especially my forehead. I had constant acne there (closed comedones and inflamed spots) and lots of PIH. The rest of my face looked dull, but it wasn't too bad. I've never had problems with my chin, but I did have minor closed comedones on my cheeks which were only visible in direct sunlight. The cycle of breaking out and getting more PIH meant that I was never happy with how my skin looked. For the first time in ages, my skin is now clear. I rarely break out, and if I do, the spots are small and disappear quickly. My skin texture has changed dramatically too. It's smooth and no longer bumpy. My skin tone has evened out, it's brighter and my PIH has gone. I'm so pleased that something has finally worked! I'm not on acne medication or anything that alters my hormone levels either.Reviews:1. Salicylic Acid 2% Solution: The product that cleared my skin up. I introduced this slowly into my routine, starting with once a week and then increasing to 3 times a week. I still don't use it every day because my skin doesn't need it and I found it too drying (even on my fairly oily skin). The product is clear and spreads easily, and I apply a thin layer all over my face. Sometimes it 'foams' up, but I've noticed that this only happens if my face isn't completely dry. I then wait 10 minutes before applying my moisturiser.I purged for a week or two. Closed comedones rose to the surface and I also got some small pus-filled bumps, but these went away pretty quickly. Within a month, my closed comedones had completely gone and I wasn't getting inflamed acne, even during my period. I've also noticed that the sebaceous filaments on my nose and chin have reduced.I'd suggest patch testing and not applying a thick layer of it, as I've read that some people have experienced chemical burns with this product. Avoid putting it on open wounds/acne you've picked at, go slowly and see how your skin reacts :).2. Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%: Nuked my dullness and PIH. The combination of Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin has been an absolute game changer for me! The propanediol in it makes the texture feel oily (even though it's oil-free), so it's best not to apply too much. My skin feels slightly warm when it's first applied. I gently rub and pat it into my skin, and then wait 10 - 15 minutes before moisturising. Some people might not like the 'oiliness' (which is why I apply it at night), but it disappears when I put my moisturiser on and leaves a dewy finish. It also has a hard to describe scent (it's like a slightly burnt fruit), but I can't smell it after it's been applied. It took a month before I noticed any significant fading of my PIH, but even then, this was impressive for me. Usually my PIH takes months to slightly fade. After 3 months of use, I no longer have those acne marks and my skin is glowy and even. This stuff has worked so much better than glycolic acid for me.Things that have also helped: - Avoiding touching or picking my face. Yes, I know how hard this can be. I used to turn the tiniest bump into a full blown mess. I'm still guilty of looking at my skin up close, and I'll probably relapse at some point. However, I've thrown away my comedone extractor and have got better at leaving my skin alone. I try my best to step back from mirrors...no one else looks at your skin the way you do! A bump that will go away is better than an open wound or scab. Hydrocolloid bandages are also great for spots that have a head. Gently pierce it to release the pus and slap one on. It'll do all the work for you and stop you from touching your skin. r/CompulsiveSkinPicking is a great, supportive sub for anyone struggling with this. - Patience. Acne can't be solved or prevented overnight. It takes time, and you have to be consistent with your routine in order to see results. Hang in there! I know how easy it is to slip into the mindset of attacking your skin with multiple products, but that won't help in the long run. Start slowly with actives etc, even if you've used them before. My current routine is basic, and I've realised that my skin doesn't need 84956368324 products in order to look good:AM: - Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Facial Wash - The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution 3 times a week - Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser - Still trying to find my HG SPFPM: - Garnier micellar water (green cap) for make up removal - Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Facial Wash - The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%. I'm thinking of using this every other day (or less) now that my skin is better. - Simple Hydrating Light MoisturiserIf I do get a breakout, I spot treat with the Salicylic Acid twice a day.Although skincare is personal and YYMV, I hope this post is helpful for at least one person. It's important to note that I've never had moderate - severe acne either; it was just persistent. I know how much acne and PIH can affect your confidence. Being able to skip foundation and concealer was my skincare goal and I’ve finally achieved it!
