[Personal] 10 Basic Skincare Tips and Knowledge Everyone Should Know!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Not too long ago I joined this sub and was immediately intimidated by the incredibly intricate routines and expensive products that were posted regularly by this skincare community. If you are in similar shoes, there are very basic daily tips, tricks, and routines that can be followed for those of us that are broke and are still very slowly building our product collection. This isn’t a tip but a reminder that your skin is genetically predisposed to your parents and grandparents skin composition. Now many people have different skin than both of their parents and that is because we are a genetic mixture of two different individuals. My point here is that YOUR SKIN IS DIFFERENT FROM EVERYONE ELSES. What may work for someone else’s skin may not work for your skin. Read that last sentence again. That’s why we hear about those people that use the one fruity face scrub (we all know the one) and have perfect skin. The art of skincare is learning a routine for YOUR SKIN.Stay hydrated. Drink water. Not only does this help your general health but it’s fact that your skin needs hydration not just externally but internally. Drink a healthy amount of water for your body type. If you exercise you need to drink more water to replenish what you have lost via sweat.Clean the items that come into contact with your face regularly. This includes changing your pillow case a couple of times a week. It’s crazy how many people I have talked to that say they change their pillow case once a month. Have 2 or 3 cases you can rotate so that your face isn’t laying in its own filth for a month. Your phone is your worst nightmare when it comes to germs and bacteria. It makes sense because your hands (the dirtiest part of your body) are constantly touching it. Take some rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball and wipe down the screen and the back as often as you can afford to. I clean mine about once a day because my job requires me to take a lot of phones calls and my face is plastered against the screen. People that wear glasses- clean those too. What you eat affects your skin. Reiterating point number 1, what you consume will affect your skin differently from someone else’s. A great way to tell what your skin reacts to and doesn’t react to is an elimination diet. Slowly add different foods back into your diet and see how your face handles different food groups. A very common food group that causes problems amongst a lot of people is dairy. Before you eat wash your hands-especially if it’s a finger food and your hands will be touching your face for the whole meal. After you are finished eating wash your hands again so that if you touch your face there will be no grease or leftover food on them. You touch your face more often than you think you do. Becoming more aware of how much you are touching your face will slowly aid in the general cleanliness of your skin. I had staph infection as a teenager and was told that it would spread if I touched my face at all and up until that point in my life did I realize how much I casually sweep my hair out of my eyes or scratch an itch that I have on my eyebrow. It’s just a good rule of thumb to wash your hands before you touch your face. DON’T PICK AT IT WHATEVER IT IS. Mostly likely it is best left alone. If you do pick at it disinfect the area so infection doesn’t spread but I know you have enough self control not to!Now we are going to dive deeper into actual routine.ALWAYS SPOT TEST NEW PRODUCTS. I know we can all get excited after a shopping spree of new skincare purchases but unfortunately you need to introduce each product individually. If you try out 6 new products and your face breaks out you won’t know which one was responsible. Also, you need to use the new product on a patch of skin to see how it reacts before applying it to the whole face or body area.Use products based on your skin type. I know this sounds silly but I’ve met people that don’t know if their cleanser is for oily or dry skin. Also, it is helpful to do some research before hand. Start recognizing different chemicals in products and correlating if they help or hinder your skin.We all know the drill.-CleanserWhen you wash your face for the love of the skin gods do not use scorching hot water (now if your skin can handle it good for you). You want water a little bit warmer than luke warm when washing your face.-TonerDon’t leave this shit on for too long and don’t use too much because it can sting and potentially burn irritated areas.-Antibacterial/ antioxidant serumsA basic antibiotic ointment can decrease redness in a pimple.-Eye Cream-Spot Treatment-MoisturizerFor all my Doctor Who fans out there,“Moisturize Me.” It’s a good idea to invest into a deep moisturizer and use it about once a week. For my fellow economically challenged peeps I use Pond’s moisturizer and it works wonders and has lasted forever.-SunscreenThe sun is our worst enemy. It can be hard to find a good sunscreen that doesn’t break you out but please wear sunscreen. You’ll thank me when you’re 40 and don’t have sun spots. This is the very basic outline of a general skin routine. Yours may be different. I know many individuals that don’t use toner everyday because it drys out their skin. I also know people that don’t moisturize as often as others because they have oily skin. YOU DO YOU.For all my makeup wearers out there, you know what I’m gonna say... it may be hard at midnight but you need to clean your face off before bed. Also, when I have pimples or irritated dry spots I try not to wear foundation that day and just rock eye makeup to help the healing process.Beware of DIY and certain face masks. I’ve seen all over different social media where girls are putting baking soda on their faces????? It’s way too much of an alkaline and will mess with your skins pH. Just do your research before trying out any of the DIY routines.LASTLY, YOUR SKIN IS BEAUTIFUL NO MATTER WHAT. My brother had a best friend growing up that struggled with cystic acne. I have a vivid memory of my mom telling him that he was handsome even with his acne because it made him who he is. I know it can be hard sometimes when your face is breaking out and your self esteem is down but do what you can in your control to help your skin. Remember that your skin does not dictate your beauty because beauty comes from within.Fly high my fellow skincare friends.
