Beauty Tips For Body Care
This advice was given to me in a work capacity, but I really think having this outlook is applicable to skincare as well. Anything really.Have a long day and don't feel like going through your entire routine? Use a face wipe (that's right, I said it) or some witch hazel to clean, maybe slap on some moisturizer and call it a day. Can't find sunscreen you really like that's over spf 15? Just go with the spf 15 one. Then you'll actually wear it and you're still doing more than most people. Is your skin like, 90 or 95% of the way to where you want it to be? Maybe that's close enough, vs continually spending money on different products and setting yourself back to the 20% mark with a new active?Just something to think about to make skincare more of a healthy self care measure instead of another stressor in life.

[REVIEW] How I Made My Sunspot Disappear
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have had this sunspot on my upper left cheek for at least half a decade. I didn’t have a skin care routine until about two years ago when I really started to try and get this bad boy off my face. I tried a bunch of different acids/serums/spot treatments, you name it. I get monthly microderm facials and nothing seemed to help.It wasn’t a huge problem for me until a few months ago my younger, teenage brother was talking to me one night when I wasn’t wearing makeup and randomly asked me if I had always had this spot. I immediately started researching laser removal options and booked an appointment with a derm to fully understand my options.I get to the derm and start asking her about laser removal options. She told me, to my surprise, a laser is not necessary and she can freeze it off right here right now with liquid nitrogen. I was super anxious as I usually research anything and everything meticulously and am not usually an impulsive person especially when it comes to my face lol. She told me the procedure takes less than a minute, healing time is typically two weeks, and I would be able to cover the aftermath with makeup. I figured what the heck and went for it.At this point please see this imgur link to see before/during/after photos of the whole process.I wanted to document this because as soon as I got home I was so anxious and started to Google this procedure like a crazy person and hardly found anything on it. The few posts I saw however, were all positive. The only thing I would have done differently is not gone out the same night I got this done and caked my face in makeup. Probably wasn’t the best for this lil spot. However, I am very happy with the results and would do this again. The little scar that is left over is way easier to conceal with makeup than the sunspot was. I apply scar gel to it every night in hopes to speed up the healing process. I would recommend this to a friend or family member as long as they have no where important to go to in the following days. I live in the US and I believe this was $90 after insurance paid their part. As always, YMMV.If I left anything out or if you have any further questions - please ask!

[Personal] I'm bowing out.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Throwaway to keep this separate from my main content.I first joined SCA when I was in a bit of a mental rut and the only thing keeping me sane was my skincare routine at the start and end of each day. At first, I was enchanted. I could fangirl/fanboy over people’s shelfies, give and take advice, and revel in the encouragement we gave one another. But lately, I’ve been concerned and disillusioned with the amount of disrespect towards new users as well as the general apathy shown towards potentially meaningful and educational content.Remember that post where a tumbleweed was a metaphor for good, honest questions going unanswered? That really is this sub now. We don’t need the same meme reposted over and over again hitting the top every week. Too many actual good questions go unanswered, and that daily help thread is practically radio silence. We have newbies come in and ask a question, only to be immediately told “dId yOu ChEcK tHe SiDeBaR?”—such people forgetting that the newbies may genuinely be overwhelmed by the wall of information that is the sidebar and need an actual human to tell them “hey, it’s okay, here’s what you can do to start.” And god forbid if you don’t become part of the Cerave/Ordinary/budget babe clique: “Facials are a waste of time especially when you are getting your skin evaluated by a trained professional who has the tools and resources to try and better your skin, but here’s a shelfie of $75 worth of products from the Ordinary that I have no clue how to use but seem cool lol”. Guys. Just. Stop. It’s our skin, our life. Your routine consists of warm water and Cerave in the tub? Great. Your skin’s improved with a cocktail of Buffet, NMFs, vampire-esque peeling solutions, niacinamide, and argireline? Fantastic. But that does not give you the right to bash the routines of people who are making an honest effort. You do not know them or their skin. If using Creme de la Mer and going for monthly facials works, so be it, and let them be. Maybe something is really gonna cause more harm than good. But be constructive in your criticism! Put yourself in their shoes and remember where and why you started.Lastly, there really seems to be a disconcerting amount of toxicity towards posters who talk about how their partners/significant others have gotten into or are influenced by skincare. People jump to conclusions like “oh you’re being controlling and indoctrinating”, “gross”, “ridiculous”, “this sub is going downhill” etc., not realizing that disparaging comments are exactly what makes this sub anything less than a welcoming space for all. Maybe that person is grateful for someone that understands and is accepting of our pursuits, or they recognize the health benefits that can come from things like sun protection and mitigating compromised skin and want to impart them on the people we care about. Is that really a crime? Rule number one is literally “be nice” and “If a post is something you disagree with, you can just walk away”. Remember there is a person behind every post. You don’t know what they’re going through. These little victories may be deeply special and personal to them, and you do not have the right to rain on their parade just because you don’t get to march in it.So, yep. I’m out. Goodbye, Skincare Addiction. It was fun while it lasted, but it’s time for me to regain control of an aspect of my life I realized has been relinquished to a community I hoped would be more tolerant of our individuality. To those who've dedicated countless hours educating and encouraging the thousands of users on here, thank you. You are the reason I initially fell in love with this sub, and I am grateful for the wealth of knowledge and understanding I have gained. To everyone else, remember that your beauty and worth is more than your skin, an online forum, or the words of internet strangers.

[Sun care] “The best sunscreen is the one you use”
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve just listened to this week’s BBC Smart Consumer podcast and I was pleased to hear them talking quite in depth about sunscreens - physical vs chemical, environmental impacts and talking to experts for advice.I had a moment of revelation when they explain that the best sunscreen is the ONE YOU USE - the one you’ll put on more often because you prefer how it feels on your skin - and not to feel guilty if you prefer an SPF 30 product to one that is SPF 50 because the difference is very small and if you like the SPF 30 you will use it more.As someone who’s used accutane in the past, often uses AHA/BHA products and is currently undergoing laser facial hair removal, I’m very aware that I should be using SPF daily but I’m not always great at it. This sub introduced me to Biore Watery Essence and I’m forever grateful, because I hardly notice I’m wearing sunscreen at all, which means I ACTUALLY USE IT.... and that’s all I need to do!

[DIY] Anti-aging: Hyaluronic Acid (Basics/Example Routine/Recipe)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Here's the basics on Hyaluronic Acid science: It's what's in your tears, it exists throughout your body, and it generally depletes as you get older. Aside from skincare people anecdotally say it helps with arthritis. Clinical research has been done establishing that even oral hyaluronic acid can help with skin firmness. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5522662/ (don't miss the before/after photos from the study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5522662/bin/ccid-10-267Fig3.jpg).It's currently more standard to apply hyaluronic acid topically on your face to relieve dryness. Example evening routine: Wash face, while face is still damp pat hyaluronic acid serum on your face, let it dry until tacky, spray with water, and repeat. After several repetitions, you can seal it with oils or lotions. The problem I have had is that products with many ingredients can inhibit your ability to layer the serum. Also , if it's not used in isolation it's hard to know what is creating the results. Here's a youtube video describing why you should avoid just using it casually in other products without a correct routine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG4tjHe8WqsThe DIY Solution: The solution I have found is to buy hyaluronic acid in powder form from supplement suppliers. You can then mix a tiny amount of the powder with hot water to quickly create a serum each morning.Happy hydrating!

[Misc] A PSA (possibly) but could the nuface be more dangerous than it seems??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had some bad visual side effects with the nuface, particularly flickering lights when using it. In my worry I decided to do some digging after another redditor suggested it may be optical nerve stimulation and everything I've read suggests that it shouldn't penetrate deep enough to do that. I then went and searched up the fda clearance for the mini and found it but it said the mini wasn't specifically approved, rather that since it was simar to the trinity which is approved, it gets FDA clearance. So then I looked at the Trinitys FDA clearance and that says the same thing, that since it's similar enough to the FaceMaster microcurrent training decide which is FDA approved, it gets clearance. The FDA approval for the FaceMaster also says that it's not specifically approved in itself, but that since it's identical to the Rejuvenique, it gets clearance. So...technically the Nuface itself was never FDA approved itself? Is this normal practice? Am I just being silly? I'm really worried about my vision, and I've asked 4 other people I know who use the nuface and also in a skincare group on Facebook. Several people say they too see flickering vision and scalp burning/twitching. I'm positive my device is authentic. I'm seeing my eye doctor again soon to request testing but eep. My eyes are precious to me and I'm scared. Has anyone else had bad effects with this machine?

[Personal] Minority of folk in this society need to learn to stfu when it comes to making comments about other people’s skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
“What’s wrong with your face?” - someone says or their eyes stare when you go out in public with no makeup on and your acne shows.“You should have that examined, it looks painful” - that complete stranger who approaches you out of “concern”, or the bitchy family member who finds pleasure in making others feel bad“Why do you look so oily?” - when you’ve worked so hard to hydrate your skin that it glows (my mother to me until I told her to go shove it 😑), or you are naturally oily and it’s midday when it’s seen the most“Those marks on your face - hope those aren’t permanent! They are so unflattering”And so on, so forth....Then comes the jokes and the mean comments. It seems to never end.Well, it’s time to make that happen. Y’all trolls and people who open your mouths and say stupid shit without thinking of our feelings as a result: shut the fuck up. The insecurity you have deep down about yourself that you go around pointing out other people’s – it’s really sad and we pity you.We know we have acne, hyperpigmentation, redness/rosacea, eczema; oily skin, pores and dryness in certain areas on our face. Don’t make those things more obvious or a topic of conversation that has NO PLACE for discussion, because it’s none of your fucking business. News flash: There’s no such thing as perfect skin or perfect anything. But you know what? I’m working really hard to care for myself and embrace who I am, so your comments are not helpful no matter what your little brain tells you. We’re human, too, with blood in our veins and emotions, not some foreign creature or animal or something you can freely beat down verbally or cringe in fear at because our skin isn’t airbrushed. Go stick it. 🖕🏼Y’all are beautiful. Society is ugly.

[Review] Let's talk MUAC: At-home chemical peels changed everything
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So first things to note - I'm very used to all kinds of different acids and strengths, and I do not mean "peels" as presented by regular brands, even things like the 30% AHA + 2% BHA by the Ordinary. I'm talking about professional-strength acids that result in mild to heavy peeling and can be dangerous if not done correctly. Everything was sample sized, nicely priced, and yielded several uses. TL;DRs are in bold. After ~ a year of playing around with all forms of acids, strengths, Differin, etc etc, I finally decided to try out the brand Makeup Artist's Choice, which I came across on here long ago.I have successfully done maybe 10 or so peels from their products, and have purchased:Mandelic 15%/Salicylic Acid 15%Radiance Peel (lower % mandelic + organic peels such as kojic acid)TCA Peel 12.5%Mandelic Acid 5% TonerAzaleic Acid + Salicylic Acid leave-on maskSilicone makeup primerPressed banana powderPeptide eye creamWith each shipment (2-3 now), they sent me a free cucumber toner or rosewater hydrosol sample to use after my peels, and very clear, big font instructions. Via digging on comments, I also found out their customer service seems to be top notch, offering refunds if things go wrong, and their staff is highly trained in offering accurate and safe advice before and after purchasing.I have done maybe seven MA & SA 15%/15% peels, I did that one first because I really wanted to dive in with a decent strength but not too high. I have very good tolerance for acids, even while on Differin, I was using the AHA 30%/2% BHA. I wanted to try a higher % BHA (or salicylic acid, specifically), because I heard SA wasn't very painful, and 15% mandelic acid, a more gentle AHA with larger molecules (therefore less irritating as less penetrate the skin), seemed like a perfect combination. (Fun note, mandelic acid is highly recommended for those with rosacea, or those with darker skin bc of this.)Pretty much all their stronger peels say the same thing, no actives/retinols/oids, physical exfoliaton of any kind 24 hrs before + after. I more or less followed this except for the Radiance Peel, which was peanuts imo. However, what I did NOT follow, was not picking off the flaking skin rather than letting it flake off itself. If you can't remove it with gentle oil cleansing, then leave it be. I, however, multiple weeks in a row, picked at the flakes outside of the corners of my mouth, and resulted in gross burn-looking skin, raw, which eventually healed into gross brown PIH patches. So yeah pls learn from my mistakes. I did experience gnarly, true purging on my jawline which definitely had trapped CCs that had never budged but stayed tiny cones. These painful pustules + the PIH were gone pretty quickly.Fast forward weeks, and my oily, forever-clogged, blackhead-ridden, big pores, fine lines, and stubborn CCs that had never once lifted a pinky, not to mention my SFs, were finally nice cleared and mostly kept at bay with consistent exfoliation throughout the week + Differin. The turnaround time for this (peeling-wise) is 3-5 days ish.The instructions for the mandelic/SA were once weekly, but I found this a little ridiculous and soon ordered the Radiance peel for maintenance, & doing the 15%/15% peel 2-3x a month. I finally got to the full 5 minutes without frosting this last time after fixing my moisture barrier. This has given me to best skin I think I've ever seen. My SFs and some blackheads still come back regularly, but not like before. I cannot praise this highly enough. I will be looking into the 40% lactic acid eventually also. 5/5 HGThe Radiance Peel is really nice & gentle but effective. I don't know the exact ingredients or % of mandelic acid, but I believe it also has kojic & other supported natural exfoliants. Not much else to say. 5/5 for providing exactly what it states, nice clear skin while being gentle, there's almost zero tingle to thisThe TCA Peel (12.5%) on the other hand, still kinda scares me and requires a full 7-10 days of babying/recovering time for peeling, so I've been avoiding this. ?/5, I haven't used it yet, too scared toThe Mandelic Acid Toner 5% was okay but weirdly enough a little tingly and underwhelming & didn't seem to do any new or different. Since I have 2 other bottles of 7% AHA glycolic acid toners, I declined on buying more of this. 3/5 Not HGThe azalaic acid & salicylic acid overnight gel mask or whatever it's called piqued my interested and I grabbed a sample. I was a little skeptical when I saw how itty bitty the sample is, but it was like $3 and I've gotten maybe 4-5 uses out of it sooo, I like it. I thought this was awesome. I don't know the % of azalaic acid, but it doesn't tingle when I leave it on, it has nice slip, and it dries a little tacky but everything went over it very nicely. And it blasted my SFs and a ton of my blackheads away. I will be repurchasing the full sized item at some point for sure. 4/5, maybe HG?The silicone makeup primer took forever to dry down and did almost nothing for stopping my makeup from appearing cakey, or smoothing my flakes, or controlling oil. The sample was awful in terms of delivery of product also, it was just a little open tube with a huge hole for a very liquidy substance to come out. I use monistat's anti-chafing gel as a silicone primer and much much prefer this versus the $15 or whatever it is for the full size. 1/5, not HG, will not repurchaseThe Pressed banana powder was supposed to replace my Innisfree no sebum mineral compact as a cheap alternative since I was already ordering from them, it had good reviews, and Ive been intrigued by banana powder. Seriously regret it - no matter how I do it, it looks cakey, settles into fine lines, and clings to dry patches. Damn. I'll have to rebuy the mineral compact, this was a waste of money imo. Not even good for baking. 1/5Peptide eye cream supposedly erases fine lines & peptides supposedly encourage collagen growth over time. I've since learned peptides are more complicated and need assistance with delivery into the deeper layers of the dermis. I haven't bothered to do my research into this product since I use TO's Matrixyl 3000 on my whole face incl. eyes, but this cream feels LOVELY and very smoothing. I didn't see a lessening of fine lines but, peptides are comprehensive meaning they need constant application to work, which I didn't really do with this. 3/5, felt nice, but won't repurchaseSo yeah just wanted to revive a little love for this brand since I've had such a positive experience recently!

And he said, “Let’s leave in 30 minutes, then. You put on your sunscreen now, that way there will be enough time for it to sink in and start working.”Yep, guys. I think he’s a keeper.

[Shelfie] Finally perfected my morning routine. My main concerns are: oily skin, large pores, hyperpigmentation. I don’t wear makeup and this routine ensures that I don’t get oily throughout the day, and the Tatcha sunscreen has a great blurring effect on skin to reduce the appearance of my pores.

[Personal] Goodbye Skincare Addiction
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Let me start off by saying this subreddit has helped me so much with understanding my skin and for that i am truly grateful. However this subreddit has also made me notice things about my skin that i never would have before, some slight redness on my face and i now think i have rosacea.Being so aware of your skin is a blessing and a curse. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, i came to this subreddit to clear up my acne but it has spiralled into so much more.I have just had a week in Zante only using a basic cleanser, moisturiser and some sun cream. Eating shit every single day, sweating profusely, drinking copious amounts of alcohol and not drinking enough water... No Niacinamide serum, no horse placenta toner, no acids applied in a specific order or changing my pillowcase every night or using a clean towel and my skin looks the exact same as it did before i left.I have also not checked on this subreddit for a whole week, which was something i did every single day and i feel better for it.The bottom line is we are all human, our skin is not made to stay like baby skin forever, we age, we grow and we go through shit that paints a picture onto our canvas, wear your scars and marks like a badge of honour, we all have a story to tell because of themIf you feel like you're overwhelmed and consumed by skincare, just say fuck it for a week and see what happens.

[Acne] Azelaic acid cleared my hormonal adult acne after 6 years of trying everything
Beauty Tips For Body Care
First off, thank you to this community. You’ve helped so much. This is my first post and hopefully will be my only one, as I have finally got my acne under control and have a routine that I’m happy with after years of searching. The key for me has been in finding azelaic acid (specifically finacea) - the only thing that has ever truly made a difference to my skin. I’ve gone from constant struggles with huge hormonal acne to weeks without ANY acne within 4 months. Background - I always had good skin as a teenager but then got adult onset acne at about age 21, with it getting progressively worse until a few months ago (I’m now 27). It is definitely hormonal linked. I would get the occasional cyst and many papules and pustules on my chin - I would say 3 big bad ones per month plus a lot of smaller ones that really got me down. I have tried so so many things (differin, other retinol, AHAs/BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, tea tree, etc etc etc) and was months away from starting accutane or birth control. I read on here about azelaic acid and bought a tube of financea and haven’t looked back. I now have occaisonal small papules and pustules still, but they are so much smaller than usual and I have whole weeks with completely clear skin. I no longer wear makeup.RoutineMORNING - cleanse with CeraVe hydrating cleanser - The ordinary niacidimide & zinc - finacea 15% azelaic acid - la Roche posay antihelios suncreen SPF50EVENING - cerave cleanser - finacea 15% azelaic acid - every few nights The Ordinary salicylic acidI really hope this post helps other people as it’s been such a game changer for me. Good luck everyone!

[Personal] White bumps/patches has been appearing next to my nose which look scarred. It has slowly been getting worse and I could use some advice
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Around my nose there are these small white bumps/patches that look scarred. There has never been any acne there or breakouts, just these 'patches' :(They look terrible in some lighting. I rinse my face with cold water daily after my shower and then directly apply sunscreen. I use a mild exfoliant once a week after going to the sauna.I'm sorry about the heavily censored pictures, I have alot of friends on reddit and am very insecure about this. I appreciate any thoughts/feedback :) Last pics shows it best I think https://imgur.com/a/ThHubtb

[Product Question] Ceramide moisturiser recommendations for dry skin?? (not Cerave & accessible in the UK)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've tried Cerave PM moisturiser and was so disappointed, I finished the bottle but it didn't seem to have any improvement to my skin and it felt more like a serum than a moisturiser. Ended up layering it under other moisturisers as my skin still felt dry and tight using it alone.I'm currently using TO NMF which I like, but from the ingredients list it looks like it doesn't have ceramides in it it (though I'm not sure what 'ceramide precursors' are which is mentioned in the product description, so if anyone can explain that'd be great!). I'm currently supplementing it with the Hada Labo Premium hylorionic acid (3/4 skins am and pm) and TO niacinamide + zinc (pm).I'm ideally looking for a moisturiser for my dry skin which includes ceramides and preferably niacinamide as well. I'm trying to minimize and simplify my routine as much as possible so any moisturiser recommendations would be fantastic!

[Acne] Makeup removal?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have hormonal acne and usually have a few active pimples on my face at any given time. I use a light foundation for work because I don't want to gross people out, but removing makeup when I get home is a nightmare. I use micellar water but no matter how gentle I am, I can't seem to get everything off without irritating the 'live ones'. What's the best way to get makeup off without disturbing the scabs too much? And I'm working on my skin issues with a naturopath because I took antibiotics for a few years which messed up my skin and gut big time. So the pimples will go away slowly but in the meantime I still need coverage!

[Product Question] Looking for a dupe for Darphin Rose Hydra Nourishing Oil Cream
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I got a sample of Darphin Rose Hydra Nourishing Oil Cream with a recent skincare purchase online, and I am using it up to decrease my stash.Good news: It smells amazing, feels luxurious, and doesn't sting my skin.Bad news: it's hella expensive! A single jar is $76, and I have no idea if it's in CAD or USD. (Edit: it's $98 CAD for a 50 mL jar, OMFG)I think my skin is really responding to the shea butter, meadowfoam and rose. Plus, there's some centella way down in the list. Is there something cheaper I can get with similar ingredients? Here's the ingredient list:Water\Aqua\Eau, Octyldodecanol, Butyrospermum parkii (Sheabutter), Limnanthes alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric triglyceride, Cetearyl alcohol, Glycerin, Sucrose polystearate, Butyleneglycol, Tridecylstearate, Glyceryl stearate, Tridecyl trimellitate, Cetyl alcohol, Propanediol, Rosadamascena Flower Wax, Rosa damascena(Rose) Flower Oil, Rosa damascena Extract, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Oenothera biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Rosaroxburghii Fruit Extract, Rosarubiginosa (Rosehip) Seed Oil, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Sesamum indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Vaccinium myrtillus Seed Oil, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Rosa damascena (Rose) Flower Water, Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Macadamia ternifolia Seed Oil, Lavandulastoechas Extract, Peg-100 stearate, Dipentaerythrityl hexacaprylate/Hexacaprate, Hydrogenated polyisobutene, Potassium cetyl Phosphate, Biosaccharidegum–1, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Ppg-26-Buteth-26, Phytosphingosine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cholesterol, Seasalt\Marissal\Selmarin, Salicornia herbacea Extract, Rosa centifolia Flower Wax, Copernicia cerifera (Carnauba) Wax\Coperniciaceriferacera\Ciredecarnauba, Artemia Extract, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Acrylates/C10-30alkylacrylatecrosspolymer, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Peg-40 hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Carrageenan, Sodium Benzoate, Fragrance(Parfum), Tocopherol, Xanthangum, Butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane, Ethylhexylmethoxycinnamate, Ethylhexylsalicylate, Disodiumedta, Phenoxyethanol, Geraniol, Citronellol, Cinnamylalcohol, Limonene, Citral, Eugenol, Red4(Ci14700)>Iln45162>.

[Routine Help] I'm a total noob. Help me choose a moisturizer from a limited range of brands.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey all. I'm a guy, 25 and very new to this. I'd appreciate if anyone could take a few minutes to help me out. I've done a lot of research and have spent hours reading posts and wikis on this sub, but still haven't started a routine. Where I live most of the popular products praised here are unavailable, but even with the very limited range of r/SkincareAddiction approved products I still feel overwhelmed by the ammount of choice and can't come to a decision.I thought I'd keep things simple and just choose a moisturizer for starters. The only brands available that I've seen recommended here are:Avene, Bioderma, Balea, Eucerin, Sebamed, La Roche-Posay, Hada-Labo. About my skin:Age:25, MaleSkin type:I think I have combination skin. My nose is almost always greasy with big pores, but my forehead and cheeks look normal.Skin condition:I have very acne prone skin. It's not very severe, but once every week I get at least one huge pustule either on my cheek area, on my forehead and less frequently right on the tip of my nose. Sometimes I leave them be, but sometimes they look so disgusting that I pierce them with a sterilized needle and gently squeeze the huge amount of pus out and then disinfect them with alcohol. No matter what I do, after they go away they always leave red or brown spots behind that take ages to disappear. Some of the most severe ones have even left me with mild scars. Also, my forehead and the area below my lower lip are riddled with closed comedones and my nose with open comedones, but all of these aren't very noticeable except for up-close.I'm sporting a short beard and mustache, and interestingly, the entire area of my face covered with facial hair is almost always clear, acne free and generally younger looking, which leads me to believe that the cause of my acne could be outside influences like sun exposure, dust, etc which the rest of my face isn't protected from.Skin proclivity:Pigmentation. I tan very easily. RoutineI don't have one, except for the cheap generic 30 SPF sunscreen I put on my face before I go out on really sunny days.MoisturizerFrom what I've read the best thing for my skin would be a hydrating gel or lotion instead of a cream, right? There's so many products to choose from. So far I'm looking at the most simple ones (because I still have no idea what the ones with a bunch of extra ingredients do). So far I have these 2 in mind:Sebamed Clear Face Care GelorAvene Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Cream LightI've yet to visit a few more stores here to check the range of La Roche-Posay and Bioderma products available. I hope someone here with more experience or someone who's had similar problems can shed some light on whether some other products would be more suitable for me.Thank you for your time.

And what country are you in?Posted about it in the UK sub, ordered and received it (after a month and hefty customs fees) and one person complained they backed it but never got the thing https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddictionUK/comments/c5ddt2/got_my_sunscreenr_uv_camera_after_quite_a_wait/Emailed before ordering asking about stock and the 'CEO' replied immediately. Emailed a couple weeks after ordering as the thing looked like it was missing, emailed all of their listed email addresses and the web form, opened a PayPal case and got no reply anywhere. It does the job but the quality control is a bit shitty and I've changed my PayPal case indicating that the manufacturing is faulty, still no reply.Seems they don't give all that much of a shit after you've given them the money.Apparently they started shipping from January 2018, and comments on the kickstarter site are all people complaining they never received it https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sunscreenr/sunscreenrtm-is-your-skin-protected/comments

[MISC] How much time do you guys spend washing off the day if you wear a lot of make up? And is it possible to be doing too much?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I currently wash my face in the shower with Dermol 500, and then use a moisturiser either Cerave hydrating lotion or Neutrogena hydro boost gel before I apply my make up in the AM.My skin isn't great at the moment; CCs (apparently) on my jaw line; chin and on either side of my neck. So I cover up with make up, I would rather wear less but I am not confident with the bumps and whiteheads on my neck and jawline at the moment. My make up is NARS Sheer glow; NARS concealer; Estee Laurder double wear concealer and Terry Hyaluronic powder (bronzer; blush and glossier highlighter used but not where my problem areas are).On an evening, I can't wait to remove my make up. I use Clinique TTDO balm with a micro fibre cloth; and then finish up with a couple of pumps of Dermol 500 again with a cloth to try and take the rest off. This is done either in the shower or at the sink. Two times a week I take my make up off before I go to my boxing class; but I do reapply some concealer to my really bad spots and then take it off with Dermol 500 when I come and have a shower.I moisturise my body with Cerave moisturising lotion (but not my face); wait for my face to dry and settle; apply Differin to my face and neck; wait 30 mins and then apply either Neutrogena Hydro boost or Cerave to my face.I have been watching Dr Dray, Dr Sam Bunting and Caroline Hirons on Youtube or reading various blogs.Dr Sam doesn't seem to like facial oils - I am wondering if she also means cleansing balms? Has anyone tried her facial cleanser? And also says water is an irritant and disrupts cells. I am worried that I am exposing my face to much while I am removing my make up - but unfortunately it doesn't all come off that quickly. Yes, I could wear less - but I don't feel confident doing that right now, especially in the job I do - as I face the public all day.I started Differin 19th May, and I am only just building up to using it continuously. I am also on an antibiotic - erythromycin. My derm told me to try these for 3 months. She has just booked a follow up with me on 19th July. How many times do you feel like you need to wash off the make up you've had on your face - and do you think it irritates your skin spending time removing it?

[Skin concerns] Chapped lips – How to permanently get rid of them?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been suffering from chapped lips for years now. Specifically the bottom lip will always have a dry patch or two on it, the rest is mostly fine but occasionally the top lip will chap in the middle. I drink a lot of water, eat healthy, eat plenty of fruits, started taking fish oil supplements, vitamin supplements... I used to nibble on the loose skin from my chapped lips, forced myself to stop doing that...I can fix it temporary by using vaseline at night, or using chapsticks (I know they're bad) but it doesn't last longer than a day. It's just really pissing me off. I think it started when I completely changed my lifestyle and lost 40kg of bodyweight within a few months... I just ordered Aquaphor, as I read that it's good. But I'm guessing it's just another bandaid product and won't fix the true problem. I'm only 23 too btw.Really hope someone here has an idea.

[Skin Concerns] Life after Curology
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I cancelled my subscription to Curology about two months ago due to budget and skin issues, and I’m beginning to wonder if anyone else who has also cancelled, has your skin gotten more acne-prone or did you realize that you were better off Curology?I ended Curology because my skin started peeling out of nowhere even though I was about a year in. I began to notice that I started breaking out in new places and decided that my prescription wasn’t for me. I talked to the doctor assigned to me but she just said to stick to a routine that, IMO, didn’t clean my face at all.Now that I’m not using it anymore, I’m getting that fear of having break outs again so I would like some input from people that have experience Curology

[Product question] La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Duo Plus
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was super excited to try La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Duo Plus on my skin which has been getting a lot of cystic acne ever since I got off minomycin. However, after about a week or so of using it on my skin that had started to calm down again (I know this usually isn’t enough time to test a product), I started to get SO much more cystic acne than I usually would :( I even started developing cysts in the areas where I normally wouldn’t get them! It’s hard to tell if the product itself was causing my skin to break out, but I was too scared to continue using it.I googled this and I read some stuff about ‘purging,’ but it overall sounds sketchy to me. I’m just wondering if anyone else had the same issues, if I should stop using it or persist? I really wanted it to work :(

[Review] CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm going to do my best to cover all of the review requirements, but let me know if I miss anything! [22F]Skin Type: Combo, sensitive. See: Everything Breaks Me Out. I've tried everything, and I'm now the proud possessor of 5 different prescriptions to try and calm my skin.Full name: CeraVe Renewing SA CleanserLength of Use: about a monthPackaging: similar to other classic CeraVa cleansers, like the hydrating and foaming cleansers, but a little bit less opaque? I'm not sure if that's how to describe it but it seems like it is a little bit of a sheer bottle. Is is pump dispensed. What I Bought it For: You know when you're in the middle of a huge breakout and you wander the aisles of Walgreens looking for something, anything, that might help? Yeah, that's why I bought this. I hadn't seen it before, I think it is relatively new, so I decided to give it a shot. I knew that Stridex has SA in it, and that helps me sometimes, so I thought it would be a good option.Positives: This cleanser definitely helped to stop my breakout in its tracks. White heads and deep fuckers had been developing daily, and sometimes hourly, for the previous week, but I noticed the morning after first use that nothing new had developed. That was huge. I kept using it and it has pretty much smoothed out the skin around the pimples that I'm nursing, and has even reduced their size. I really don't know what I would've done had I not tried out this cleanser. Also, I made a desperate derm appointment (you know the kind) in the middle of this breakout, and when I finally got in to see her she approved of the cleanser and said it's the same one she uses. That felt good. She also hooked me up with other fun prescriptions that I'm a week in on right now, which I plan to update on later. Still using the cleanser though, with Differin .03%, without too much drying so far.Negatives: I was very worried that I would dry out really quick with this cleanser, because it seems that every time I start an acne-specific cleanser (i.e. not an ultra-gentle, hydrating cleanser), my face ends up tight, dry and flakey. I, being impatient AF, started strong with twice a day use. Even with that ambitious, and foolish, approach, I didn't experience too much dryness. At first I was got a little dry around pimples that had already been there, but as my skin adjusted it went away. I use it twice a day still, and I have no problem with any dryness or tightness. Just be aware that it'll be an adjustment. I did not purge- I'm not sure if that's common with cleansers or not but it didn't happen here.Overall Opinion: I seriously think this salvaged my skin to be able to work on it again. It was breaking out so badly that I was afraid to try and treat it, so I kept a very very simple routine to give it time to heal. This helped to jump-start the healing process and stopped that breakout in its tracks. I would highly recommend this cleanser; if you are worried about the drying effect it might have, my derm said that doing it once a day (i.e. morning) and then alternating with the hydrating cleanser (i.e. evening), would help to combat that. Best of luck to all y'all, we are doing great sweeties.

[Misc] When in the evening does everyone wash their face?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Sometimes I do it when I get home from work, so that my sunscreen is clogging up my skin for as little time as possible (I don’t go back into the sun).Other times I do it right before I go to sleep, so that I get the minimum amount of grime on my pillow.I don’t usually wear makeup, so that’s not a factor for me, but when I do wear it I think it’s good to try to not have it on too long.Is there an actual correct choice? What do you guys do?

[Skin Concerns] Skin aging and lack of SLEEP
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've slept <6 hours a day for 3 years and it visually aged my skin. Dark circles and micro lines on my forehead. I'm just 25 years old. Has anyone seen a change in their skin by sleeping 8-9 hours a day? I feel hopeless...

[Routine Help] I found an amazing blog post that is perfect for anyone interested in The Ordinary products. There’s a lot of them, and choosing which ones to use can be overwhelming.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
She breaks it down to science/chemistry, and tells you how each product will affect your skin, whether it’s any good for certain types, or if it’s unnecessary. There is a wealth of information so you won’t have any problems deciding on which product to use. I use it like it’s my skincare bible.https://theskincareedit.com/2017/08/04/the-ordinary

[Personal] Can we get serious and talk about dermatillomania (skin picking) for a sec?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I really just want to put this out there and come totally clean. It took me a long, long time to figure out what was REALLY wrong with my skin. I have normal breakouts on occasion, but really the biggest problem was me and not knowing I had dermatillomania. You hear "don't pick" and it kinda goes over your head. Like, yeah, whatever. So I really want to just throw this out there because it is serious and I think it's underestimated.I did not realize that this is a type of self harm. It is. It super is.I also did not realize when my "acne problem" started until I read a book called Stop Picking on Me: THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE ON EXCORIATION DISORDER Skin Picking Disorder (SPD) by Mary-Margaret Stratton.I realized that my issue was directly connected to trauma and abuse. It started directly after that and for some reason picking became my coping mechanism. When the abuse stopped and nobody else was around to find faults about me, I started finding faults about me. Then it went deeper into finding the harshest products possible to eliminate all these things I didn't like myself. It was not always just about the skin. It was a reaction to trauma and I had nooo idea.I don't want to make this an uncomfortable sob story at all but I just want to put it out there because it really is important. If you have had trauma in your life and you think this might be how you're coping, I really recommend the book and I also really recommend getting something to check off each day that you don't pick for encouragement (I use Habit Hub), get gentle products, and start LOVING your skin. Pamper your skin.Take care of yourself. Work on healing inside and outside. It's important.

[Product Question] New Herbivore Bakuchiol Retinol Alternative Serum
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all! Curious seeing this new herbivore product repped pretty prominently on the Sephora app. Doing a little bit of research on the sub/ on the herbivore website deffo didn't realize that Bakuchiol OR PSAs were a thing so I feel summarily educated.Curious what you guys think of the ingredient list here -- been toying with the idea of adding a retinol to deal with texture/ brightness but am worried to mess up a good thing while my skin is finally on the rise. Wondering if this would be a good way to capture some of the benefits without risking irritation!https://www.herbivorebotanicals.com/collections/f-a-c-e/products/bakuchiol-retinol-alternative-serum

[Misc] If you're still looking for the perfect sunscreen then I would HIGHLY suggest CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have tried plenty of sunscreens in my life and I was always disappointed.CeraVe ultra-light is everything you want in a sunscreen. No whitecast, not shiny, not greasy and a nice matte finish. It doesn't feel like im wearing a sunscreen at all. It's that good.Just make sure you try this one: https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Ultra-Light-Lotion-Moisturizer-Sunscreen/dp/B077TQR6ZW not the classic AM one.

[skin concerns] beat cystic acne, but now have CCs and can’t tell if they’re from over or under exfoliating my skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve had pretty bad cystic acne over the past couple of months (see post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/b6t2vf/skin_concerns_8_now_11_weeks_on_tretinoindid_i/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app ), which got so much worse after I started using tret. I stuck with it for a couple months hoping it was the purge- but once I stopped it my skin got a lot better. I also went on spiro 100mg when I stopped tret. The tret got rid of these CCs but caused horribly cystic acne. I’ve been on spiro for 3months now. here are the CCs: http://imgur.com/NTKDeiVI’m happy my cystic acne is gone, but recently I’ve had problems with these Cc’s. they are only on my cheeks- not forehead or chin or nose (aka not the oily areas of my face). There could be a couple of reasons that all revolve around either drying out my skin or not exfoliating enough: -I’ve been traveling for the past month and the sunscreen/saltwater/heat/airplanes might not help -but mainly I’m worried that the CCs are from me drying out my skin too much. i can’t tell if I’m over exfoliating or under-exfoliating. Therefore I’m not sure if my next step should be to stop using actives for a while or to start using them more intensely.Current, simple routine because of travel: AM wash face with la roche posts milky cleanser CereVe PM moisturizer Elta 46 SPF NARS tinted moisturizer (worried this could be a cause as well!!)PM: Garnier pink cap miscllear water La roche posay milky cleanser Every other night: P50 (combo AHA/BHA, strong) Cereve moisturizer PM

[Review] EltaMD Physical Sunscreen is Magic
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I posted here before about making the leap into buying EltaMD ($35😳) for my face, and I was pretty bummed because of its small size so I wasn’t expecting much. Yesterday I applied it in the morning around 8 am, and then reapplied at noon. I got home at around 8 pm and washed it off, not seeing any difference. Today, I woke up, looked in the mirror, and (mentally) gasped. My skin looked super smooth and even. Some of my textural irregularities were even reduced. I’m not sure what made this happen (zinc oxide doesn’t usually have this effect), but I’m thinking maybe the niaminacide helped. Anyway, I highly recommend it, especially if your skin likes niaminacide (as mine apparently does)!

[Misc] Does anybody watch dermatologist Dr. Dray on youtube?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently started watching her videos and noticed that she dislikes every single product that has natural fragrance or oil in it. But isn't that like 90% of products out there? I have used plenty of products that have had natural oils and fragrance in it and I never had a reaction to it.. what gives? Is it really that bad for your skin in the long run?She seems very sweet but I noticed that ever since I started watching her I have extreme anxiety to the sun.. she doesn't even advise being next to a window for a second without full sun gear on or a SPF of at least 50 or I will age terribly and be setting myself up for skin cancer in the future. What are your guys thoughts on her?

[Personal] I'm proud of you
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Although this sub has helped me, I'm still struggling to find the right routine. Every time I think my skin is getting better, I get a new break out and it's more than frustrating.I have suffered from depression for 11 years and sometimes that makes it difficult to get out of bed, let alone keep up with a good skincare routine. So if you got your routine done today, I'm proud of you. If all you did was take your makeup off, I'm proud of you. If all you did was think about wanting to do your routine, I'm proud of you.As hard as it is, try not to give your skincare power over your happiness. And sometimes keeping cleansing wipes on your nightstand helps on those days that make it hard to get up.

[Personal] Don't touch my face
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just needed to get this out. It might be nothing to a lot of people, but I trust people who understand skincare will feel me. I've been moisturizing more lately because the climate's dryer than I'm used to here, and I've also been kind of sensitive because of breakouts. This woman I know (who used to suffer from extreme acne issues) took her finger and dabbed at my cheek, slightly scratching it. Then she said, "Your skin is oily."YES, I'M EXTRA MOISTURIZED, BITCH.I almost snapped at her, but I was mostly confused why the fuck someone who suffers from skin issues and understands the pain would fucking touch my cheek like that with her dirty finger? And she fricking scratched me!!! HELLO??? HELLOOO??? Don't touch my face. If it happens again, I will go off.Maybe I'm overreacting, but it made me SO angry that she touched my face like that. Thanks for listening to my ridiculous rant. On the real though, am I wrong to be so pissed off?

[SKIN CONCERN] Is it possible to over-hydrate your skin? Why am I getting these spots on my face?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello ScA!I’m getting these little whiteheads on my face literally every other day when I wake up in the morning. If I pop them they scar but if I don’t they stay on my face for days. [Sun Care] There's really no way to apply a proper amount of sunscreen without looking like a greasy mess
Beauty Tips For Body Care
LORDY LORDY LORDY for a whole entire year I've looked like a greasy mess because I clung to the 1/4 teaspoon rule. I've tried every pricey Asian sunscreen out there. Applying makeup over it was no bueno, even with high-end mattifying foundations would have my face looking greasy af by the end of the day. And if I didn't apply makeup/powder to mattify it? My face looked deadass WET. I looked tragic lmao.Anyways I woke up one day and was like fuck it. I only apply sunscreen to look better as I age, but what's the point of looking good at 60 if I can't look good at 25 you feel me. I use like maybe 60-70% as much sunscreen as I used to. I know it's less sun protection but soooo worth it.And before ya'll come in here with "1/4 teaspoon is nothing! I probably apply double that every morning!" please sis measure it out, you'd be shocked. 1/4 teaspoon with a nice cosmetically elegant sunscreen is super difficult to blend in, and with a heavy greasy sunscreen it's nearly impossible.

[Review] Honest review: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Before I begin, I understand that the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (Hydro Boost from now on!) is an incredibly popular product for those especially with oily skin because of its lightweight formula. Before purchasing this product, I did quite a lot of research on what moisturisers I should use on my combo (very oily T-zone) skin, and the Hydro Boost came up a lot. I have been using this product for almost 2 months. My general routine (AM/PM):Neutrogena Deep Clean Foam CleanserNeutrogena Hydro Boost Water GelKlairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drop (undereyes, dark spots)Pyunkang Yul Essence TonerCOSRX Snail Mucin EssenceIngredients:Water, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Dimethicone/vinyl Dimenticone Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethaqnol, Polyacrylamide, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Dimethiconol, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Chlorphenesin, Carbomer, Laureth-7, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance, C12-14 Pareth -12, Sodium Hydroxide, Blue 1Pros:Oil and alcohol freeHyaluronic acid retains moisture and leaves skin soft and suppleFairly cheap, around $25 AUD ($0.5 per gram)Applies thinly, allows for layering of other productsDoesn't leave white cast, no pilling or sticky finishCan be used as a hydrating makeup primer w/ matte finishPackaging (tub) is simplistic and easy to useCons:Contains fragrance with a prominent smellOne layer dries very quickly, leave skin feeling more dry than hydratedProduct is used up fast, feels like you need a lot to cover entire faceMatte finish doesn't leave skin glowingOverall, I think that the Hydro Boost performs very well. The application is smooth and lightweight and initially sits well on the skin. It feels very much water-like, and is completely different to heavy creams/moisturisers. I use this product right after cleansing, as the hyaluronic acid can work its hydration magic best when water is still present. At first, I fell in love with this product after switching from a milkier and thicker moisturiser. However after a month, the product begun to feel drier and drier on my skin and layering products only helped a little. In the morning/by the end of the day, my skin would go back to feeling like a desert because the product dried so fast (it definitely doesn't provide 24 hours of moisture as advertised). I don't think layering the water gel would help in this case. In addition, the fragrance became a little overwhelming, and wasn't very natural. At the moment, my Hydro Boost is probably on its final few uses, meaning that the 50g tub has lasted almost 2 months.Recently, I've been looking for a replacement for this product. I'm looking into purchasing the Mizon Snail Recovery Gel and the Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel! Though I originally enjoyed using the Hydro Boost overall, I don't think I can see any major differences in my skin's hydration and balance, mostly due to how quickly it dried. At home I begun trying the Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel, and it works in a similar fashion to the Hydro Boost and felt even better on my skin. I'm not saying that you shouldn't purchase this product, it's definitely worth a try, and in the end it comes down to personal preference and skin type! Thanks for reading! ♡

I'm not saying that you shouldn't purchase this product, it's definitely worth a try, and in the end it comes down to personal preference and skin type! Thanks for reading! ♡

[misc] how long should you oil cleanse for?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Usually i do about a minute but last night I thought let’s try longer and ended up doing it for like 5 minutes AND SOOOOOO MUCH GUNK CAME OUT OF MY SKIN they were like little grains. My skin felt soooooo unbelievable smooth after and ALL of the blackheads in my nose have gone!!! (I used to have so many blackheads but just left them bc I didn’t know how to get rid of them). Now I’m wondering what would happen if I oil cleansed for even longer, say 10 minutes? But I feel like that might irritate my skin? Idk

[PSA] [Misc] Check everywhere for moles, even places you wouldn’t think to. I wear my hair down & it covers my ears but this still popped up! Doc removed the top layer & sent it in for testing. Got the results back—I’m going in for further removal/graft as they’re worried it’s very early melanoma.

[acne] my skin is finally smooth.... a concept
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Last week I posted about trying the Aztec healing mask. I’ve been testing it on my cheek for the past week and all the acne is gone, and more importantly with no scarring or pigmentation. I’m THRILLED with the result. Months of changing my pillow cases regularly, not touching my face or picking at the bumps, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide wash and a benzoyl gel and none of it was getting rid of the acne. Now I’m planning on using it on my other cheek and then if I’m brave, my chin which has the most stubborn acne. After all this time I’m so glad I was finally able to figure it out! Here’s to hoping it works as well on the rest of my face.
