Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had some issues with the Nuface. Pain and twitching when using it above the eyebrow and then flickering lights during use. I was worried so I did some digging as you can see in my previous posts and went to see my eye doctor for the second time today to request testing.First, let me follow up on the FDA testing for NuFace. The NuFace is NOT FDA approved, only cleared. It's also only been cleared on what appears to be a technicality. The NuFace is FDA cleared because it's similar to the FaceMaster, which is FDA cleared because THAT is similar to the Rejuvenique. So this means at the very base level, The NuFace and the FaceMaster have NOT been through rigorous FDA testing. But I did further digging, because at least the Rejuvenique which all this is approved based on must have been through FDA testing right? WRONG. The Rejuvenique was NEVER truly tested for safety either. Because it existed in the market prior to 1976, it was given automatic clearance. You guys...this feels like next level bullshit. The NuFace is basically "FDA Cleared" based on a technicality and loopholes.Secondly, I went to my eye doctor for a follow up appointment and insisted I be tested further. I also took my device in and we both sat for almost an hour looking at journals of the effect of microcurrent on the optical nerve. Thankfully it appears my eyes are okay (my vision IS a tiny blurrier than before using the NuFace, but I'm not sure if that's the nuface or my own paranoia, he said to wait and see), but we found multiple studies done where microcurrent was used to stimulate the optic nerve to restore vision in blind patients. They used microcurrent at lower microamps than the NuFace uses, and that was done on patients that were already blind. Can it be concluded from this that the microcurrent from the NuFace could be doing lasting permanent damage to the optic nerve? No...but we can probably say that this isn't something that should happen. My doctor (he works out of a University) took down the name of my device and said he'd look into it with his colleagues, but strongly warned that frequent over stimulation of the optic nerve can lead to gradual damage down the line that can be very difficult to repair and may not be noticeable until its too late. I'm not risking my eyes for a slightly sharper jawline. He also said that nerve stimulation done incorrectly can also damage facial nerves and cause chronic nerve pain. Take this all with a grain of salt, but I'm throwing my NuFace in the bin. You guys can make your own decisions, but I just wanted to let you know. If anyone you know is using a NuFace, it might not be a bad idea to let them know too in case they were under the impression that the NuFace is FDA approved and perfectly harmless like me.
