Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi,I am a 28 year old female who was put on birth control at age 15 for painful, severe, hideous hormonal acne.An OBGYN told me my body probably produces too many androgens, and she gave me a birth control that suppresses this male hormone in my body. The Pill worked and I had good skin for years. However, I've been nervous about taking the Pill lately. I tried to go off of it recently and my skin ERUPTED within 2 weeks. See the image I've attached. It makes me want to cry, seeing how hideous I looked. I'm so embarrassed to post that photo.A lot of my friends have been telling me they are going off their birth control because they're hearing horror stories of women our age who have had trouble conceiving after being on it for a long time. There is no research that proves this, but lately I've been uncomfortable with the fact that I've been on a pharmaceutical pill for THIRTEEN YEARS. That's a long ass time.I am worried about how long I've been taking the pill and I want to try something else. The trouble is, my skin is SO disgustingly ugly and painful when I'm not on this drug, as you can see! It seems like I'm cursed to either 1.) have ugly acne or 2.) risk infertility. I have some dates planned in the next few weeks and I don't want to be ugly during this already difficult process, but I also don't want to risk not having a baby! What's extra frustrating is that I have an identical twin who just went off the Pill due to these infertility concerns, and her skin is fine. She has never had the severity of acne that I have, which is puzzling :(Here are a few things I'm considering, and I'm wondering what you all think:- Go to an endocrinologist to get my hormones tested to see if I actually do make too many androgens- Go to a dermatologist to see if there's any other pharmaceutical I can take for my skin. I've read about Spironolactone but you need to watch your liver while you take it, so is that really any less risky than the pill?- Go to an OBGYN to see if something more serious is the underlying cause of my severe hormonal acne, like PCOS, although I dont have other symptoms of that- Quit the birth control cold-turkey and try natural ways to lower the androgens in my body. I already eat extremely clean but I'm cutting back on dairy, and people have told me some herbs like spearmint, peppermint, black cohosh, vitex, and nettles lower androgens in females. Ideally a change of diet and these herbs would work but idk if I'm that optimistic.Has anyone else quit birth control and dealt with their acne in a different way? What do you think is the best option of what I've listed above?Thank you for reading and for anything you can share!https://i.redd.it/ayuvchfkqrp31.jpg
