[Personal] Today my cousin came to me and cried after attempting to whiten her skin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm devastated. If you read this story and feel related or you're in the same situation, don't make the same mistake my cousin did.Today my cousin called me and cried badly. I asked her what's wrong and she told me she fucked up, she couldn't stand looking at herself in the mirror anymore because she thought she looked so hideous. I asked for more details and eventually, she told me about her whitening journey. She lives in Asia, and you know how Asians praise the glass, milky skin. My cousin doesn't have that kind of skin. She loves outdoor activities and she had been in a swimming team for years but she stopped because her classmates were starting to pick on her for her brown skin. She said they wouldn't let her group up with them in the PE class, or they would cut her out of a group selfie. Out of pressure, she hid her parents and decided to buy skin whitening creams sold on the internet by a girl in her school (she's like 15?). She has been using for 4 months and her skin got whitened within 14 days which was insane. She used all her saving money for whitening cream but this month she ran out of money so /fortunately/, she couldn't get it. It made her depressed. One week of not using the cream and now her skin is freaking her out. She showed me photos of her skin and I was shocked. Her skin right now is so pale you can see so many veins on her skin, it doesn't even look like she has any layers of skin left. The color between her neck and her face is like 8 shades different. There are huge, red, angry pimples all over her cheeks and they look hurt to even touch it. Her eye areas are swollen. She looks nothing like the last time I saw her. Her parents have been thinking it's a bad allergic reaction since she's too afraid to tell them she used all the money for skin-whitening products. She said she wanted to kill herself because now her friends would think she's too ugly and they would start talking about her back again which makes studying harder for her. I hate to see my 14 year old cousin goes through this. She shouldn't have hated her skin, or should feel like she needs a certain skin color to be liked. There should of been no beauty standard that my sister feels obligated to follow. Please, if you're seeking to whiten your skin color, be wise. Don't risk your skin over some creams being advertised on the internet. If you can, try to love your skin. If you use any social media, don't try to always follow "influencers" and feel obligated to follow a certain beauty standard. You're not doing yourself any good.
