Beauty Tips For Body Care
i am so surprised that some people don’t have actual logical skills in this subreddit. people seem to think that if an anonymous person from the internet says something is good, its good for everyone. i post one review and suddenly it’s an ad because someone had bad results? and when i make a comment about the fact that what works for one person may not work for another it gets downvoted to oblivion? people! there is no such thing as a perfect skincare product. if it works for you: great. if it doesn’t: don’t use it. don’t attack people on the internet because you don’t like something they like and it doesn’t affect you. just like attacking people for liking pineapple pizza. if someone says they like pineapple pizza you don’t call them sponsored because it’s a different opinion. jeez lmao

[routine help] how to moisturise your body properly
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey!This sounds like a silly question but how do you moisturise your body properly?Everyone says to moisturise while skin is still wet but when I do that my body feels like how it does when you sweat, and it stays like that for ages. And it also has white streaks of moisturiser instead of sinking into the skin (even after rubbing it in for a while). (I don’t have this problem when moisturising my face when wet so does that mean my moisture barrier on body is damaged? If so how can I fix it? I never used to moisturise my body for 20+ years so this may be likely)Also when I wash my hair I put gel in my hair (CGM) then wrap it in a cotton T-Shirt (I do this first so that it’s not dripping in my face). Then I do my face skin care, and body last. But by the time I get to my body the water is usually almost completely gone which is not good because of TEWL.Do you have and tips and advice?I have KP so I really need to do it properly.

[acne] Do you think having acne is seen as more or less of a "taboo" these days?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I saw an article on Refinery29 recently about how more people on social media are being open about showing their acne and there's #acnelove. But at the same time, I feel like everyone posting their "no makeup looks" makes me feel more pressure to have clear skin than before.I'm curious: are you comfortable "embracing your acne" or other issues more these days? Or do you still feel like society favors flawless skin?

[review] have y’all ever tried this? (innisfree volcanic pore clay mask) i recently started using it but it somehow manages to be smooth like butter, empties my pores of most of their oil but leaves my skin soft and moist. it’s cooling and leaves redness if that’s an issue for you, but i like it.

[Misc] What littler known skincare tips have helped your routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
There are loads of popular tips and tricks ranging from the generic of wearing sunscreen everyday to the brand specific of using Stridex in the red box for a BHA. I'm curious what littler known tips and tricks do you feel like brought your skincare routine to a new level. For me, it was two things, both having to do with how I wash my face. First, massage my face with the cleanser for a full 60 seconds. I would guess I was averaging 20 seconds, maybe less, before I read this in an Allure article. I really feel as if this has helped the overall texture of my face. The second was from YouTuber Hyram, and it was recommending that when massaging your face wash onto your face, apply the amount of pressure you would apply if you were massaging someone else's face. I do this now both when I wash my face and when I massage other products onto my face. I find it's especially helpful when I apply micellar water as I use reusable wool pads and it gives me a really gentle physical exfoliation without overdoing it.What littler known tips have helped you?

[skin concern] My lips are so dry they look like I haven't moisturized them in five years! I need some help.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm so sick of dry lips! I mainly use Aquaphor and that stays on during the day, but I will use Burt's Bees cucumber mint chapstick once per day when that starts to wear off. I sometimes use lanolin as well but only once or twice per week. After the aquaphor comes off my lips feel dry again so that's why I use the chapstick. At night I just started using the Laneige lip mask for about a week now and haven't really noticed anything special, it's kind of like stickier Aquaphor to me. I do love the feeling on my lips and it does stay on all night, but I'm not blown away like everyone else on here. As soon as I get out of bed in the morning my lips are basically dry again. Before the lip mask I just used Aquaphor. What do you use for chronically dry lips? I feel like everything I try doesn't work! My lips look white, dry, and 100 years old.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Here I am, my face peeling most likely due to tret every single day because of my derms prescription and so I'm deciding that I'm gonna cut back. It works, but I don't need to use it everyday right? I tell myself, on some days I wanna use Salicylic acid, others benzoyl peroxide. And guess what? I wore sunscreen today and forgot to cleanse.... Sheesh. I'm so tired. I'm just gonna moisturize and call it a day.

[Misc] What are your tips for creating a more eco-friendly skincare routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! I’ve been into the science behind skincare for a while, and have finally started purchasing products to use! I’m trying to create a somewhat environmentally friendly routine, and I was wondering if you guys had any tips? My current product list looks like this:By Wishtrend BHA Cleansing GelBeauty Tech Cosmetics Skin Energy SerumSidmool Honey Sleeping Pack as a moisturizer (this has collagen and honey which gives me immense guilt, if any of you can verify that these are sourced responsibly I would be so happy, because it’s seriously the only thing that works for me. I’m thinking of replacing it with their Propolis Gel so it’s at least vegetarian but idk how it will go with my skin)Purito Comfy Water Unscented SunblockSo what are your tips/recommendations/hacks? Mine so far are pretty simple- being cruelty free, recycling and reusing packaging, trying to have vegan products (damn you Sidmool sleeping pack!), and using EWG safe products. What do you guys do? Thanks so much!

[PSA] Today, no matter its state, be grateful for your skin. It may not be perfect but each and every day, it protects the contents of your internal being. And that is a wonderful thing. You’re an absolutely amazing blessing to this earth, my friend. Embrace who you are this Thanksgiving ❤️
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Each year, we are asked what we are thankful for. Normally, our answers reside to our family, overall health, and whatever else that stand as important. But do we ever say that we’re thankful for ourselves? For that chance we are given daily that we open our eyes to breathe another breath and enjoy the world for another 24 hours?Since a young age, I’ve struggled with self love. Mostly because of physical disabilities and medical concerns that have prevented me from doing what I would love to do, like sports, go swimming. Yet I have come to the realization that those things about my body do not define my worth. This also applies to what my skin goes through and looks like some days, if not every day. Believe me, a breakout or that aggravating PIE or PIH mark sets my teeth on edge! It affects how I feel about myself. How others see me, because, unfortunately, not everyone in the world is kind and stupidly impulsive, resulting in a rude comment about my skin or my appearance as a whole. That just makes us irritated and over-evaluate our faces and bodies.Self-love is a hard concept to understand and grasp, but one that is substantial to how we heal from the inside-out. Takes time and practice, discipline and a routine that, eventually, makes a difference. It’s priceless. It all comes from our hearts and minds, at least overtime. But that all comes down to how we wish to live and see who we are, no matter what state it is in. An acne breakout, dryness/dehydration, texture, rosacea, psoriasis, ultra-sensitive, scarring and hyperpigmentation, and anything else that bother us the most for personal reasons - those, like a physical disability, don’t make us less valuable. So, as we go about today, let’s make it a day where we tell ourselves how awesome and wonderful we are; acknowledge the amount of love and beauty and potential that are within ourselves. Because at the end of the day, that is what should matter most, out of anything and everything else. You’re an amazing human and we are thankful you exist.

[Review] Drunk Elephant Slaai VS Farmacy Green Clean
Beauty Tips For Body Care
F/32 dry skin with hormonal acne and rednessFarmacy Green clean- This was my first cleansing balm and I really enjoyed it. It melted in to my skin and felt like it broke down all the makeup and sunscreen on my face. I had a problem with the film it left on my eyes. My eyes were a bit red the next morning after using it and I was a bit unsure of the ingredients. Price point 34$ for 3.4 ozDrink Elephant Slaai- I was really hoping this would be a great alternative to the Green Clean. I like the ingredients better. This really just sat on my skin. It was very wax like and didn’t seem to dissolve my makeup. It didn’t leave the film or irritate my eyes. Price point 34$ for 3.8& ozFinal thoughts although the Green clean left the film and a bit of irritation on my eyes it is the superior balm. All of my makeup was removed easily. My skin feels cleansed and while I didn’t have any breakouts with either. I will take the film and slight eye irritation compared to the waxy goop that is the Slaai. I wanted to love the DE version more because of the ingredients it did just not perform as well. My skin just feels better and fresher when I use Green clean and I used both as the first part of my double cleanse.

[Routine Help] My skin goes from dry to oily throughout the day, despite a moisturizing routine. What can I do differently?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Routine -Morning: CeraVe Moisturizing Cleanser, CeraVe Facial Lotion. Night: VeraVe Moisturizing Cleanser, Stridex Exfoliating Pad, CeraVe Facial Lotion. My skin typically feels good throughout the day, but as the hours go on, my skin gets oily and shiny. It's nowhere near as bad as it used to be before I had a routine, but it would be nice if I could make it all the way from morning to night without my skin becoming shiny and oily.I was hoping to get people's thoughts on the following questions:How can I keep my skin moisturized throughout the day so it doesn't become shiny and oily? I'm already using a moisturizing face wash and lotion morning and night. How can I improve?Do I need an additional product to "open up" my skin layers and allow the moisture to sink all the way in instead of just sitting on top?I like my current routine, but I'm looking at trying one of the pre-made sets from The Ordinary, which includes "Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5." Can someone explain what the heck that is?I also have redness and scarring from bad acne as a teenager, so I'm thinking about adding a Vitamin C product. At what point in the routine should a Vitamin C product be used?My current facial lotion includes an SPF 30 sunscreen. Should I be using an actual sunscreen on top of that lotion each day, or is the lotion with the SPF 30 enough on its own?I have sebaceous filaments on my nose. What can I use to reduce them, and where should that product come in the routine?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/q3IXG5R I’ve been off a proper routine for a while now. I was prescribed pills and a benzoyl peroxide cream after having a really bad breakout, worse than usual. I only use a bp wash now bc the pills and the cream weren’t making a difference :(. It’s been about a month and half were I’m mostly just using water and the wash every once in a while but looking at my cheeks recently it looks like the redness is mostly scarring. Can anyone confirm that? On top of that also dryness cause I took this right after a shower.

A thing I’ve noticed a bit over the last couple of years (especially during the winter) is that my skin always looks its best after I just wake up, before I’ve done anything. The texture is a soft velvet matte and the skin tone looks bright and even. The redness starts to appear as soon as I start putting products on, and other things like brightness and texture slowly deteriorates through the day. By the time I’m doing my nighttime routine, my skin will have a good amount of redness, be shiny with grease, and my clogged pores are more visible. My question is – is this a common thing? Does it mean my sunscreen irritating, or is it just because being awake and doing stuff is stressful/irritating? My AM and PM routines are not that different...?My current routine, but this effect has persisted through different products over the last couple of years:AM:Kadi cleanserCosRX birch sap moisturizerA’Pieu daily sun creamPM:Boscia makeup break-up cool cleansing oilKadi cleanserCoxRX 92 snail mucinCosRX birch sap moisturizerI also run a humidifier overnight, if that mattersFWIW, I've tried just not using any products at all on a day (one time just splash with water, another time not even that) when I knew I wasn't going to leave the house. Same thing happened, which is why I didn't think it's the sunscreen. It was also the summer, so no humidifier at night.

[Review] I tried dermaplaning for the first time yesterday! [22F]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I visit a med spa semi-regularly and my esthetician suggested I try dermaplaning because my skin is super, super oily and congested. She dermaplaned my face, which I was kind of nervous about, but it didn't hurt at all! My face felt super soft and smooth after. Then, she did some extractions and a light chemical peel (salicylic acid). This definitely wasn't my first peel, but she warned me that it would burn way way more since that top later was missing. I was bracing for something really bad, but it didn't actually hurt! The whole thing ran me about $200. I'm interested to see how long it takes the hair to go back, but I'm kind of obsessed already! I'm interested to hear other people's experiences with this treatment and/or answer any questions! What she took off my facePost dermaplaneNext day

[Misc] "The best" antioxidant to boost sunscreen during the day according to research?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
With more and more studies (the amazing and comprehensive McDaniel 2018 or Oresajo 2010 [download available] and also Burke 2018 or Grether-Beck 2014, for example) showing evidence that UV spectrum is not the only part of the electromagnetic spectrum that contributes to skin ageing, topical use of antioxidants during the day is recommended to protect against varied forms of skin ageing triggered by:visible lightinfrared lightozoneatmospheric gaseous pollution and nanoparticles (varied mechanisms that induce ageing)However, I was not able to find data on which antioxidant or antioxidant mixture is the best as each study uses a different one - they mostly use Ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), vitamin C or E and varied polyphenols such as resveratrol or seed extracts e.g. grape seed extract.Any advice which antioxidant to choose? Which is backed by most data? I am considering:resveratrolferulic acidEUK-134 or other mimetics of superoxide dismutaselipoic acidvitamin ETopical application of vitamin C is not an option as I am sensitive to it.Any advice or info super welcome! <3

[PSA] The holidays are coming... don't be THAT person, and remember to ignore the assholes!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
The holidays are kicking off, starting with Thanksgiving tomorrow. I don't know about you guys, but I always get nervous when I have to see family that I don't get to see often because I start to get very self-conscience about my skin. I start to wonder if they are wondering how bad my skin looks, and usually have to deal with at least one comment about my skin. So, I am making this post to remind you all first, not to be that person! Second, ignore those unnecessary, rude comments about your skin (or actually, anything). Remember that your progress is your own progress, you know the small improvements that you have made, even if its just that you have gained knowledge about how to better take care of your skin! Also, remember you are your own biggest critic! Don't let the fear of your skin get in the way of enjoying yourself! Lastly, if you need anyone to talk to about this, this community is so supportive, you can even privately message me.Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving (and a great Thursday, if you don't celebrate)! I am thankful for the journey that I have been on with my skin because even though its been tough I have learned a lot! <3

[Misc] what are the best real deal, healing, no BS, tried and tested, test of time skincare brands?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
What are some skincare brands that are just what our skin needs? That aren’t popular because of a trend, fancy packaging, a known name, because it’s luxurious, because it’s instagramable, etc. What are just the real skincare brands that just do what they need to. That are what the skin really needs. So if it were a nurse or a dermatologist who wasn’t just trying to sell a product, who actually is all about the skin’s health, what brands would they recommend?

[Routine Help] The Ordinary Sheet

I really love the Ordinary products but their website is not so intuitive and it's really hard to create your regimen with the info there. So I created a spreadsheet that made the whole process a lot easier. I put all the info necessary and you can filter everything to your needs.Maybe it can be useful to you as well, so here it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LVrMoEAhSP7HeA7UGXx72wYzkS4qv2PFNh_57cSD-QI/edit#gid=1393474359ps. [MISC] UPDATE: I’ve run out of my cleanser. I’m now having dreams about it. Please help me.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My original post.Let it be known that on this day, Tuesday, November 26th, of the year of our Lord 2019, my package was delivered from Amazon, and I was reunited with my one and only love, La-Roche Posay Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. The feeling of putting it on my face after all this time was a euphoria I will never again experience. My blemishes are already clearing. My skin is soft, supple, and nurtured.I promise this is not a sponsored post, but if you're looking for a really good soap-free cleanser that honestly works for any skin type (I have oily skin, and even it does me good), I highly recommend this La-Roche one. It's a godsend. It keeps your skin super bright and hydrated all day long, and it's super gentle and milky. As someone described it on my previous post, a 'conditioner for your face', if you will. It's an 11/10 for me.Thank you all for the well wishes, and support you all have given me during this difficult time. I couldn't have survived this without you.TTYL.

[Anti-Aging] (Silk) Sleep masks help avoid eye wrinkles and maintain moisture or actually cause more wrinkles?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I can see how a (silk) sleep mask could help avoid too many eye wrinkles for side sleepers like myself and maybe even help keep that eye cream working for longer (hence posting on this sub). However, if it's too tight or our eyes move a lot during REM, I could also imagine the opposite effect...Do any of you have experiences with silk sleep eye masks and do you think they would make a difference for a side/belly sleeper with a very dry bedroom?I am close to 30 and despite using good eye creams 2x a day, I am starting to see more eye wrinkles developing especially on my left side - which is the side I sleep on. Sleeping on my back is not an option so I am trying to find a solution to delay those wrinkles as much as possible.

[Product question] Facial mists and toners in a spray bottle?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I like facial mists for using throughout the day in my (dry) office. I’ll try anything from rose water + glycerine (thank you, Boots!) to Pixi to every Asian Beauty option ever, I love them all!So my fellow spray-lovers: Is there actually any benefit to a specific facial mist over (say) using Kikumasamune High Moist in a spray bottle? What’s the thickest toner you’ve managed to successfully spray (I’m thinking Hada Labo Premium Lotion here)? What’s your favourite facial mist or toner for this purpose? Do you have a favourite spray bottle (not gonna lie, I’m eyeing up listings of used MAC Fix+ on eBay just for the bottle!)? I want to hear all about it!

If you need help clarifying, check out this guide on skin typesCurrent routine with the full names of your products (try to separate it in to Morning, Evening, and Occasionally used)How long you have been using your current routine, or product in questionAnything new you’ve introduced or started doing that might change the condition of your skinYour location so we can recommend products/services available to you Thanks for taking the time to include your information! Would you like to give advice?Firstly, thank you so much for helping out our community - without your knowledge and time ScA would not be the same! Some things we'd ask for you to keep in mind: please don't just downvote someone's opinion or response because you disagree. If you can, please take the time to tell them why you think their advice may be incorrect or harmful. It's better for people to understand why something is a poor choice, instead of just being told that it is one!Once a year, we have a big thank you post for everyone who has helped out in the DHT where we give out nifty flairs & gold to exceptionally informative and kind users. Check out our list of ScA Helpers and our most recent thank you post!Whether it be in-depth responses that deserve to be their own guides, thoughtful product recommendations, or simply pointing someone in the right direction, we appreciate all the time and effort you've made to help others!Previous ThreadsThis thread is posted every day at 12:00am ET.

[PSA] Timeless has changed their 20% Vitamin C Serum to Airless Pump Packaging
Beauty Tips For Body Care
As well as changed the design of their other products! See for yourself!https://www.timelessha.com/"Dear Valued Customers,We are so excited to unveil a beautiful new look for all of our Timeless Skin Care product bottles and hydrating sprays! With the exception of the PURE line, our re-designed bottles are now color-coded in vibrant colors. After listening to your feedback, we know this will help make your daily skin routine even more efficient! The products are now easier to identify, making your ‘shelfie’ pop even more! But don’t worry, we have not changed the incredibly effective formulas that you love, keeping the same high concentrations of premium quality ingredients. We have taken special care in improving our Vitamin C Serum, by creating a brand-new airless pump to further increase the serum’s shelf-life and reducing the natural oxidation process, that causes the product to change color.Timeless Skin Care is dedicated to creating advanced skin care solutions, with exceptional quality and value. Our products are made in the USA in small batches for optimum freshness and quality. As always, we guarantee our products’ freshness and potency created with clean, cruelty-free formulas.Thank you so much for all of your support, we hope you love our new look as much as we do!Kind Regards,Veronica Pedersen, CEO"

[Routine Help] Is my routine order correct?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am a male in my early 30s and recently got into skin care. Being in the military, I am always in the field, especially in the sun. Recently, after reading this subreddit, I realized how I wasted my 20s by not taking care of my face. I did a lot of research and started to buy the recommended products from here. I just want to make sure I am doing it correctly as there is so much information on different products that I feel overwhelmed. My AM routineClinique for Men oil control facial washShave my faceThayer's Witch Hazel Toner-LavenderThe Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HAClinique for Men oil control moisturizerLa Roche Posay- Anthelios Clear Skin. [Routine Help] Frequency of use for TO 7% glycolic acid?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there!I’ve recently bought the TO Glycolic Acid & did a patch test and gradually started to use it fully. It seems like my skin reacts well to it! So far I use it once a week but I find that it’s not enough to keep my skin clear all week, so I’m just wondering how frequent do people usually use it?Thanks!

[Miscellaneous] Oil cleansing has made my face softer and smoother than ever before.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I’ve been dealing with texture on my forehead (I think as a result of a new shampoo but whatever) and in an attempt to fix this, I picked up a bottle of Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil which is a HG for many on the r/AsianBeauty subreddit. It’s been 3 days since I’ve started using it and y’all, my skin has never been this smooth to the touch. Oil cleansing is a game changer. It feels so therapeutic to clean my face with a smooth, nice smelling oil, it leaves my face so clean and aside from the stubborn texture on my forehead (which has subdued quite a bit) my face is so clear and glowy. I highly recommend that y’all introduce an oil cleanser of some sort into your routine because it has changed my skincare routine forever

[Trigger Warning][Skin Concerns] For the past few years I've only showered a few times
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Trigger Warning, gross stuffFirst, I wanna say that i'm extremely embarrassed writing about this. And more embarrassed that I reached this stage. So please no judgment and lay off of me ok.I (17f) have a history of abuse, self harm and severe depression. For the past few years or so I've been so extremely depressed that the act of showering was a chore. It's not just that i'm lazy. Showering makes me really anxious and scared and i'm only comfortable when i'm dirty and smelly. I know I need help and i'm taking baby steps. As a result, my skin looks terrible. It looks like the skin of a 60 years old homeless person. It's super rough and dry and there's few small brown patches scattered around my back and shoulders.I want to get better. I thought I start with showering but no matter how many times I shower my skin still looks the same. Please help. Before you tell me to see a dermatologist you need to know that writing this post was so humiliating and embarrassing. I need to at least look clean before I see anyone.

[Misc] it finally felt good looking at myself in the mirror.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had acne since puberty hit me and it hit really hard, I remember touching my face and counting 10 pimples just on my forehead, I'm an adult now and even tho it's not as bad as it used to, I still have acne and acne marks (don't pop your pimples!).Ive struggled so hard with it and finally 2 months ago I've finally found a routine that works for me!I don't know what's up with my sister's bathroom mirror, but I feel like it enhances every insecurity you may have, I hated it when I stayed the night at her house and had to do my night routine there.Today I visited her and I finally felt good looking into that mirror.Ive also been wearing less and less foundation when it used to be my shield, I'm so proud of myself and just wanted to share it.

Don’t know what to do about facial hair removal as a girl?¿ [Hair Removal]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m not sure if this is even the right place to be asking this question but I’m hoping maybe someone has some advice. So first off this is extremely embarrassing for me to talk about and I was very hesitant to even post anything but I really don’t know what to do.I’m a 20 year old girl who has what I believe is excessive facial hair. It’s hard to say if it really is “excessive” considering my ethnic background but either way I have visible facial hair and it makes me feel absolutely disgusting. I have hair pretty much all over my face, above my eyebrows on my forehead, my upper lip, my cheeks, jawline, temples and chin. It’s not super coarse or thick hair but it’s black and clearly visible. My eyebrows, chin and upper lip aren’t really issues as I get my brows done regularly and can easily shave off my upper lip and chin hairs with a little electric razor. But it’s my cheeks and jawline area that are the problem. The hair on my cheeks literally grows out of my pores, I already have big pores as it is but these hair make them look bigger and dirtier. I try to shave them but it doesnt help because there are little black dots left over. The same with my jawline and even my eyebrows, I remove the hair but there are black dots left over. The cheeks on my hair never grow long enough where I can tweeze them so I don’t know how to get rid of them besides shaving. I’m afraid to get them threaded or waxed because I also suffer form acne, and super sensitive skin that gets congested very easily. But I want to know if anyone has any advice on how I can deal with this because it makes me horribly insecure and uncomfortable. I feel less feminine and dirty because no matter how well I take care of my skin it always looks dirty and gross because of all the acne, spots, hyperpigmentation, redness, texture and then the icing on the cake little black hairs everywhere. I feel as my skin can never look nice because even I someone cleared my skin (which i doubt will happen anytime soon or even at all) I will still have all these black hair dots all over my face.I also asked my dermatologist about it and said that I could only do laser hair removal on my upper lip because the other hairs are too fine or something. I also was given vaniqa cream which I use for my lip but cannot use on the rest of my face because it made me break out.

[PSA] Black Friday/Cyber Monday/etc. skincare sales
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Figured it'd be nice to have a masterlist of skincare sales, but there are far too many sales for me to compile it on my own! [PSA] Sunscreen and snow
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi ScA! Since winter is basically here for a lot of us and it’s starting to snow in some places, I just wanted to remind anyone who is like me and terrible about wearing sunscreen to be extra mindful if you’re spending time in the snow. UV rays will reflect right off the snow and into your lovely face. I’ve personally known people who have gotten their worst burns this way (eyes, under the chin, bottom of nose...) so just be aware and pop on that sunscreen :)

[sun care] I miss bed tanning:(
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know it’s so bad for your skin, but I absolutely miss bed tanning. I tanned for a 2 year period while I was in college and it was the best I have ever felt about myself. It helped with my seasonal depression, it made my face clear, my makeup looked better while I was tan, I liked how I looked in pictures, and just my overall appearance looked better with a real tan. I have since quit bed tanning and started using self tanners on and off. While they sometimes look alright, I just hate that I constantly have to remove it and re-apply. Then I have to worry about the timing with tanning with shaving and exfoliating. I loved being able to just wake up and be tan. And I don’t feel like I have the same glow like I did when I had a real tan. I love the color I produce with a real tan. All the self tanning products I have used don’t have that brown color a real tan gives, but more of an orange-ish color. Also self tanner on my face does not look good. It always looks splotchy and it comes off very quickly anyways because of washing my face every night. My face being tan was my favorite part of tanning because I felt like I didn’t even need foundation. Anyways, for those of you that used to tan have you ever felt this way? How did you get over it? Have you found any self tanning products you absolutely love? Or things that made self tanning easier? I’ve seriously been considering going back to bed tanning for just the winter, but I really don’t think I should start again for the health of my skin:( Help!

[misc] let's talk about physical exfoliation
Beauty Tips For Body Care
okay, I just want to put out a DISCLAIMER, so that you guys don't come for the jugular quite as aggressively. as a general rule of thumb, I know that you are supposed to stay away from physical exfoliation of any kind. I know it creates micro tears, I know all of this and I am not denying it. there we go. please read all of it before commenting.I don't think physical exfoliation is as horrific as we tend to preach, and while you should be using a chemical exfoliant regularly, I think the occasional physical exfoliant can be beneficial, as long as it's gentle and you scrub softly. personally, my skin will begin to feel like sand paper and break out when I don't do this, despite using a chemical exfoliater, despite double cleansing, despite not even being someone who wears makeup. I also use a wash cloth at night only, which I recently found out is also a huge no-no. for awhile I stopped using a cloth altogether and within a week my skin was so gross and so rough despite chemical exfoliation and it livened up after I used a physical scrub.and this isn't just me, because I've read and heard from many people who are the same way. their skin reacts well and arguably needs physical exfoliation or it goes downhill, with texture, acne, dullness, etc. some people, even though this is too far for me, actually have benefited from St. Ives. tons of people benefit from softer scrubs. and some skin types can't handle or just don't need it. I can't speak for everyone, but the people I know of who use physical scrubs do it RESPONSIBLY. they do it occasionally on an as needed basis, and they're gentle. nobody needs to get in there scrubbing aggressively til your skin is red, THAT is damaging.anyways, I know this is going to get overwhelmingly negative responses and I know a lot of people are about to jump down my throat and give lectures on why I'm wrong and a big dummy. but I've even see quite a few of you in this sub saying you like physical exfoliation. but I've also seen about 90% of all sources saying it's the devil.so I just wanted to discuss it, because personally, at the end of the day, I think it's all about your skin type and the way you use it.

[Misc] You are the moon and I am the moon.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I saw this list on Buzzfeed recently and the third item on it made me think of this subreddit.Go outside, look at the moon. The moons so pretty isn't it. Yeah, take a picture of the moon. Oh no bad picture it looks like a weird dump speck. But the moons so pretty???U know ur real pretty to. cameras arent very nice sometimes. But your still pretty. Just like moon.My skin has come such a long way in the past year and a half, but I've not done a before and after yet. I look in the mirror and I'm happy; I take a selfie and all I see are my flaws. I am the moon and you are the moon. Cameras aren't the end all and be all of portraying reality. The iPhone camera, in particular, over saturates red tones, which is rubbish for those of us with blemishes and scars from past blemishes.Remember though, you are the moon. You are beautiful, even when a camera is too finite to capture your splendour.

[Review] My experience with patch testing (with pictures)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi r/skincareaddiction! Long time lurker, first time poster here.I have struggled with sensitive skin for most of my life and eyelid eczema for the past 7-8 years. I finally gave in and got patch testing done at the dermatologist. I found limited information online about what the experience was actually like, so I wanted to recap the experience for others and include some pictures, as well.Day 1: MondayI went in to the derm and got the patches put on.Picture of the patches on my back here. Here’s a picture of me all taped up immediately after. They put the tape on to help keep the patches in place until Wednesday. It felt a little stiff with the two layers of tape on my back, but nothing unmanageable. No showers until after the final appointment on Friday. I was able to clean myself as best I could with my detachable showerhead. I basically washed my hair hunched over, upside down in my shower, but you could wash your hair in the sink. I only have a shower (no bathtub), otherwise I would have run a shallow bath. The most important thing is to not get your back wet!For the whole week, you also need to abstain from activities that make you sweat. So no working out or anything.I arranged to work from home for most of the week, but I did go into the office on Tuesday. I felt like I would feel super gross from not being able to shower, but honestly, the working from home wasn’t really necessary. It really wasn’t that bad!Day 3: WednesdayI was grateful to get the tape off! I felt like my back couldn’t breathe so I was sweating underneath the tape (even though I wasn’t moving around much). Here’s a picture immediately after they took the tape off. Most of the redness is irritation from the tape. After they took it off, I relaxed on my side for about 30 minutes, then they came back in and took another look at the reactions. I had 7 reactions (more on this below). They also redrew the lines on my back with a sharpie. So then, I went home without tape, but I still couldn’t shower or do sweaty activities. I wore black or dark-colored shirts during the day and to bed the rest of the week, since I was afraid the sharpie would rub off (and it did).Day 5: FridayFinal appointment! Woohoo. Here’s the final pic from Friday. You can especially notice the reaction on the left side of the pic (#5). This is p-phenylenediamine. It’s commonly found in hair dyes. When I used to dye my hair, I would have a bad reaction every time, so this result wasn’t surprising. The other severe one was #39 on the top right side. This is nickel! I had no idea I had a nickel allergy. My allergensFound out on Wednesday about:Propylene glycolIodopropynyl butylcarbamateColophonyP-phenylenediamineShellacNickelPropolisFound out on Friday about:MajantolePotassium dichromateTea tree oilCost:They checked with my insurance in advance. Insurance said they’d cover the procedure. I had to pay a $50 specialist copay for each visit (so $150 total). I just checked and one insurance claim has been submitted and paid in full (not sure if there will be additional claims for each visit).Overall thoughts:I’m super glad I did this, but obviously disappointed that I’m allergic to so many things. Some of these ingredients are in skincare products traditionally thought of to be fragrance free, hypoallergenic, good for sensitive skin, etc (many Clinique, Aveeno, Olay, Vanicream, etc products). They recommended I stick with “free and clear” type products. I think that with all these reactions, there’s a chance that I could be allergic to more stuff they didn’t test for, so sticking to products with few ingredients is probably best. Also, many of my allergens have 10-20 different names each, so I created an excel spreadsheet to better search for potential allergens in my products. This has also been an interesting experiment learning about each of the ingredients in products I use. I found polyethylene and polyester in a few products - these are forms of plastic! If anyone has any particular brands or products I should take a look at, I’d love to hear about them!Happy to answer any questions.Edit: formatting

I found polyethylene and polyester in a few products - these are forms of plastic! If anyone has any particular brands or products I should take a look at, I’d love to hear about them!Happy to answer any questions.Edit: formatting

Why we’ve been looking at Keratosis Pilaris wrong and how we can treat it more effectively (with evidence and photos) [Research]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
TL:DR Based off the following study out of the university of California in 2011, it can be hypothesized that the root cause of KP is the genetic tendency to have faulty sebaceous glands in your skin. Sebum helps to regulate hair follicle construction as well as healthy skin shedding. Keratin clumping around hair follicles appears to be a symptom of sebaceous gland atrophy, rather than the skin condition itself. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4380844/?tool=pmcentrez#!po=29.8077Based on this info, I’ve created a routine to supplement my skins sebum production and taken daily pictures to grade the improvement of my own rather severe keratosis Pilaris. The results I’ve experienced have supported my hypothesis: https://i.imgur.com/C6aXOlA.jpg————/————- This 2011 study hypothesized that KP’s root cause is due to atrophy of the sebaceous glands, which gives you low to non existent sebum production in areas of your skin where KP manifests. Sebum is thought to regulate the formation of hair follicles and keratin shedding, as well as your skins barrier so when the sebaceous glands fail, capped keratin follicles and inflammation become symptoms. We also know that sebaceous glands are affected by puberty, typically increasing sebum production while your body hair growth ramps up. Without sebum, the increase in body hair simultaneously ups the likelihood that your malformed hair shafts will begin capturing keratin in the follicles where previously there was no issue, thus facilitating the spread of keratosis Pilaris. This is also imo why KP can spread at any point in life, atrophy of the sebaceous glands can affect any part of your skin where hair growth occurs. This theory also accounts for the following:Pregnancy has been noted to increase/spread KP. Pregnancy = hormones and affected sebum production.Accutane has been noted to sometimes produce KP in patients. Accutane is used to cut down on acne by reducing sebum production. The side effect being that if your skin already was experiencing atrophy of the sebaceous glands, this can exacerbate the situation. The only skin that does not manifest KP is hairless, like that of your palms, soles, etc. these areas have no sebaceous glands.KP sufferers overwhelmingly have dry skin and issues with TEWL. Both of which make sense when you account for the lack of sebum and faulty skin barrier. This study also suggests that there in no singular gene that causes KP, but instead that there is a predisposition for skin to manifest KP based on multiple genetic factors that are often but not always passed down.I think this theory also accounts for why people complain about their KP getting worse in drier weather, and the sebaceous glands are put at an even further disadvantage to successfully producing sebum to regulate follicle construction and keratin shedding with the increase in TEWL.————-/————Here is the routine I put together to test out my hypothesis. I am also utilizing AMlactin an SA scrub with mechanical exfoliation since I do not expect the jojoba oil to penetrate down into hair follicles already plugged with keratin. My plan is to discontinue AMlactin and SA scrub after complete clearing of the skin to see if jojoba oil can regulate the skin entirely on its own.Why jojoba oil? Turns out you can’t just buy human sebum and artificial sebum is like 200 bucks for a few grams. Sebum is actually a fatty wax and not an oil, so not just any oil will work.Jojoba oil is supposedly 97% chemically identical to sebum, so it’s really the only choice for prolonged treatment.I live in a semi humid area but have dry skin. You may need more or less jojoba oil depending on your own skin type.I also tend to shower at night so you can adjust as you see fit.AM: I rub AMLactin into my KP skin areas. After my skin has absorbed it, I will put a thin layer of jojoba oil on.PM: In the shower I use Neutrogena body scrub and shower gloves to lightly physically exfoliate. I put a dollop of body scrub into my gloves before I step into the water, lather them up and run small concentric circles across my KP with light pressure.I know how much physical exfoliation my skin can take, you may need to play around with the intensity of your own physical exfoliation. After I rinse off, I keep the AMlactin in the shower to apply it before I towel off.Once it’s settled in, I apply a heavier layer of jojoba oil to my KP and go to bed. I’ve been wearing a soft long sleeve shirt to sleep to prevent any oil getting onto my bed sheets. The jojoba oil takes about an hour to fully absorb into my skin. The more frequently I use the jojoba oil, the better the results in my experience.Sorry for writing you a book + poor formatting. I’m new to reddit.

[acne] ear pimples
Beauty Tips For Body Care
i’m talking about the painful swollen ones you get on the cartilage. i had one and it was there for what felt like forever, and once it finally popped (mostly on its own/unintentionally - i was touching it to see if it still hurt lol) another one showed up on the same ear the next day on the opposite side of the opening to my ear canal.questions: 1. why do they hurt so much 2. what can i do to treat the one i have so it goes away faster 3. is there really anything i can do to prevent them or is it like cold soresi’ve read that tea tree oil can be good for treating breakouts but i would like some input on that

Be warned about fake skin care products online! [Miscellaneous]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
quick reminder and if I can help atleast one person then im happy and idc if this gets downvoted because IT probably will but please check the product is real, compare the packaging on photos and see if the size of text is correct, text isnt missing etc! I'm especially talking about Laneige range and specifically Laneige Lip sleeping Mask. There are some fake ones on ebay, amazon and other e-shops and you can tell because they are a lot cheaper than the price other shops sell them and they miss out a word "Cherry" (ex.)If you find a Laneige lip mask missing the word "(Cherry)" , "(Grapefruit)" at the end of the name on the packaging its 100% fake and may not be effective
