It's been 8 months of Accutane. I had pretty bad (in my opinion) acne all over my jaw line and mouth area. Not much on my cheeks or forehead (still had acne and common whiteheads there). I also had a lot of acne on my back, chest, shoulders, and arms.I tried many products but nothing worked. I was losing hope and my self esteem was so low. Got bullied for my horrible skin and I skipped a third of highschool senior year because I was so scared of going to school when I saw my self in the mirror. I then decided on jumping on Accutane. I was hesitant since I heard there are horrible side effects, but I wanted to try anything. I was known as that kid with acne and I didn't want it to be like that in my first year of college. So I decided to take it late in my senior year of high school.My course started on 20 mg a day and then gradually increased to 60 mg after a few months. I stayed on 60 mg until now, the end of my course. The effects weren't that bad. My skin felt dry but not too bad if you have a moisturizer. I've tried 10 moisturizers in the past (all broke me out but one). I settled on a st. Ives moisturizer. The worst part about accutane are the dry lips. I carried a tub of aquaphor everywhere I went and had to apply it to my lips before and after every meal and before I sleep and when I woke up. Basically my lips has to be coated at all times or else it just felt dry and uncomfortable. Other than that, I personally did not experience side effects that other people may have had like mood changes. Honestly I forgot I was on Accutane during the course and made taking the pills just a part of my regular routine.I am very pleased with the results. My skin isn't flawless but to me it looks so clear. I'm so overjoyed with the progress. I'm still worried about if my acne will come back. I heard for some people it does but I'll worry about it later. Right now I'm going to enjoy what I have. I still have some acne scars on my neck and also a lot on my chest but I'm looking into treatment if my insurance can cover it like it did for accutane.This is my progress. Accutane 8 monthsOther facts: I've been so focused on my acne and since accutane cleared it, I finally noticed the mole on my face that I never realized I had.Final thoughts: I really encourage those with moderate to severe acne to try accutane. Of course you should talk with your dermatologist to see if it is the right choice since there are other options. For those suffering from the curse that is acne, I wish you good luck and hope you can clear it!
