[Research] I did a deep dive researching LED light therapy for skin. I discovered two thing. 1 - The research says this technology works surprisingly well. 2. Almost all of the available LED skin devices use the wrong frequency and technique.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
The research on using LED light devices to address skin issues such as acne or wrinkles is actually fairly impressive, particularly in stimulating your body's own production of collagen, elastin and fibroblasts which lead to skin renewal. But!The research shows specific types of LED lights work way better than others.https://drmuller.com/wp-content/uploads/light-therapy-research-articles/red-light/Lee-S.Y.-A-prospective-randomized-placebo-controlled-double-blinded-and-split-face-clinical-stuy-on-LED-phototherapy-for-skin-rejuvenation.pdfobjectively measured data showed significant reductions of wrinkles (maximum: 36%) and increases of skin elasticity (maximum: 19%) compared to baseline on the treated face in the three treatment groups. Histologically, a marked increase in the amount of collagen and elastic fibers in all treatment groups was observed. Ultrastructural examination demonstrated highly activated fibroblasts, surrounded by abundant elastic and collagen fibers. Immunohistochemistry showed an increase of TIMP-1 and 2. RT-PCR results showed the mRNA levels of IL-1ß, TNF-a, ICAM-1, and Cx43 increased after LED phototherapy whereas that of IL-6 decreased. This therapy was well-tolerated by all patients with no adverse effects. We concluded that 830 and 633 nm LED phototherapy is an effective approach for skin rejuvenation.Important to note the specific wavelengths here 830 nm and 633 nm (nm stands for nanometer and is a measure of the LED lights wavelength). Turns out the human skin absorbs some wavelengths of light much better than others. Look at the graph on this page about half way down and you can see that at 620 nm skin absorbs quite a bit of the light, but at 630 the amount absorbed drops dramatically.https://theskincareedit.com/2018/05/18/red-light-therapy-at-homeThat means you need to use LED lights of very specific frequencies for best results. The frequencies needed are as follows620 nm660 nm670 nm (best)830 nmThose frequencies PRECISELY! Not wavelengths in that range or near there, no, those exact wavelengths are what you need for best results.Lets look at the LED masks available on amazon.https://www.amazon.com/Dermashine-Rejuvenation-Collagen-Wrinkles-Scarring/dp/B079GSBBH7/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3JKP5LRNXWYO1&keywords=led+face+mask&qid=1575218747&sprefix=led+fac%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-4Thats the LED mask with the most ratings. Scroll down and it shows what wavelengths are being used. None of the most effective wavelengths appear and in fact there is no evidence at all that some of those wavelengths, such as 463 nm and 527 nm, do anything whatsoever for your skin. And I suspect almost all of the LED skin masks on amazon are actually made in the same Chinese factory, as they all look the same and have the same specs. In other words they are all only very slightly helpful because they use the wrong wavelengths. I can't find a single LED mask on amazon using the correct wavelengthsYou could make your own mask with the proper LEDs but it would take some know how for sure. But its possible. The other issue is pulsing. Research show pulsing the LED light on off on off, helps make it more effective. Zero LED masks on amazon use pulsing.https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022202X15341749Regulation of Skin Collagen Metabolism In Vitro Using a Pulsed 660 nm LED Light Source: Clinical Correlation with a Single-Blinded StudyResults yielded a mean percent difference between LED-treated and non-LED-treated HRS of 31% in levels of type-1 procollagen and of -18% in MMP-1. No histological changes were observed. Furthermore, profilometry quantification revealed that more than 90% of individuals showed a reduction in rhytid depth and surface roughness, and, via a blinded clinical assessment, that 87% experienced a reduction in the Fitzpatrick wrinkling severity score after 12 LED treatments. No adverse events or downtime were reported.Collagen production up 31%, MMP-1 (bad for your skin) down 18%, with a noticable reduction in wrinkles. Again great results. But the wavelength is 660 nm, which no mask on amazon has. And its PULSED, which increases effectiveness. So in conclusion studies show LED light therapy works great. Unfortunately I can't find a single LED light mask that uses the proper technology.
