[Product Question] Shani Darden sold at Sephora now (reformulated?)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been curious to try Shani Darden products for years now, because how many celebrities with gorgeous skin praise her and her retinol products (I'm looking at you Jessica Alba, Chrissy Teigen, & Rosie Huntington-Whiteley). I also took note of how simple and short her ingredients list was, and I appreciated that since I have ultra sensitive skin. I was so excited to see that Sephora (Canada) is now selling Shani Darden products, and I thought this would be a great time to finally try it out, but when I started reading the reviews, I noticed the top comment, and now I'm skeptical AF. The ingredients list is a lengthy paragraph long now.The top comment in question:" CULT BUYER BEWARE!BUYER BEWARE - THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REFORMULATED. I have been buying this retinol from Shani Darden’s spa for years now. It quickly became a favorite; it’s strong retinol and minimal ingredient list is the reason why I was able to see past that 95$ price tag. On March 9, 2020 I got an email from Shani’s spa letting me know that the price dropped to 88$. With no mention that Retinol Reform has been completely reformulated. I’m assuming the company decided to cut corners after Sephora recently acquired the product. I will be trying this new product out and leaving a review accordingly. Still, I’m pretty disappointed with the lack of transparency. "What are your thoughts? Does anyone here use Shani Darden and have you noticed a difference since the reformulation? Do you think companies should disclose to customers when they change ingredients? Are they legally obligated to in any way? Why do you think Shani Darden didn't?

I get hormonal acne around my jawline and one persistent spot in between my eyebrows. It's also kinda bumpy and rough. My aim has been to clear all that and the PIH resulting from it and to get a healthy looking glow. I think I'm on my way to do that!Note: I ALWAYS check the ingredients on Skincarisma's Cosmetic Analyser before buying to make sure that they're actually non-comedogenic and good for my skin. ALWAYS!AM routine:Splash some water on my faceAltruist Sunscreen SPF 50: A little greasy but hasn't broken me out and dries to a dewy finish. I might try the SPF 30 version next as I've heard it's lighter. Barely any smell!Oh K! SOS Soothing Face Lotion. I put this on after the SPF has sunk in. Light and feels nice. No break outs. (I was using Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser before and found they're very similar, so possibly I will go back to it as it's much cheaper.)PM routine:Revolution Stressed Calming Cleansing Oil. SO INTO IT! I am not very wary of fragrance, so I love the scent of this oil. I even hold my palms over my nose and breathe it in for a while hehe... Again, has not broken me out. Also, it easily removes waterproof mascara.CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser. So far, my favourite face wash. It is slowly making the roughness on my skin go away. I don't feel squeaky after washing it off either.NIP+FAB Salicylic Tonic Extreme 2% every other night only. I do like it and I think it has kept blemishes at bay. However, I got it for less than half price and don't know if I'd pay full price in future. PS, it's scented.Oh K! SOS Soothing Face Lotion. I do think I need a richer moisturiser at night since I use SA so much, but haven't found one that is free of comedogenic ingredients yet. I'd appreciate recommendations, thank you!I'll still get some cystic acne on my jawline and the monster in between my eyebrows boils underneath sometimes, but I find it depends more on what I eat and the time of the month. However, this routine has definitely made these occasions much rarer and the overall feel and look of my skin have improved significantly --the light bounces of my cheeks when I smile!...thank you for coming to my TED talk?

[Skin Concerns] Reusing PPE and acne

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I work in the ER at a large hospital and our supplies are running very low due to the current pandemic. We now have to wear a mask at all times, even in the break room and at the nurses station. The thing is, I've been wearing the same mask for three weeks. After clearing up my acne with this sub (thanks y'all!), I now have 4-6 active pimples where my mask covers at all times.I keep it as clean as possible and I don't wear make-up to work. They just enacted a policy where we can get a new mask every 5 shifts, but that's still 160-200 hours with the same mask. The only bright side is my mask hides the acne 😅Any advice? I have combination sensitive skin. The acne is all angry red white heads. I have to wear a surgical mask at all times and an N95 when with high risk COVID patients (though we just ran out of my size). We are not allowed to use cloth masks at this time.Routine: Morning: rinse with water (or glossier milky jelly cleanser if I'm oily) first aid beauty lotion Mineral sunscreen when I'm not at workNight: Wash with glossier milky jelly cleanser First aid beauty lotion Tret 0.025% (I'm supposed to bump up to 0.05 but I've held off until this remedies) Argan oilThanks in advance! Stay safe and wash your hands.

[Misc] Why luxury skincare posts always get downvoted to hell? Isn’t SCA supposed to be an inclusive sub?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Last time I checked this is SCA; not a cerave/cetaphil addiction sub. It just feels so unfair how lux/high-end/even mid-end product haul/shelfies get downvoted or people bashing how they’re using too many products. When these posts get downvoted, people who are actually interested in these products miss the chance of seeing them and reading reviews of the product they might be interested in but hard to find a review. You could argue that it’s a flex post to show off their wealth but c’mon aren’t you guys tired of seeing shelfies with just cerave and TO products?I just really don’t get it, SCA. Please, enlighten me. 🙏Ps. Yes, I just posted a haul and it got downvoted like hell... just like it did with my previous shelfies and all.

[Routine Help] How to fade scars on shoulders & arms?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
From a combination of KP/bacne growing up I've got loads of tiny scars on my arms and shoulders. The ones on my shoulders are small, flat and white, and wouldn't be noticeable except that there is a LOT of them. The ones on my arms are a faint purple/grey. I'd just really like to know if anyone has tips for fading them, as I'd really like to be able to go out in something other than a long sleeve top! Thanks :)

[personal] Sometimes, more/better skincare is not the answer.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin always clears up dramatically in the summer months due to the lack of school. It’s cleared up early this year due to the quarantine! It’s all due to less stress, more sleep, and healthier eating and exercise routines. I used to spend hundreds of dollars on the “best” skincare out there, and sure it was nice, but the effect on my skin was minimal at the end of the day. I use the bare minimum of skincare now (cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen) and I wake up to glowing skin everyday and less dark circles because I AM SLEEPING MORE!!! Just saying, it doesn’t matter what you’re putting on your skin if your body is completely out of balance.

[Misc] Holy Grail Products & Ingredients - Week 10: AHAs

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there and welcome to the HG Product thread for AHAs!This is the place to share your holy grail AHA products (glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid). Daily leave-on treatments, washes, and chemical peels are all welcome :)(Thank you to u/crazypenguinlady, who allowed us all to be graced by the most regal, elegant, and splendid picture of Rosie the cat) Here’s how it works:We have a template you can copy. This thread doesn't have any top-level categories, so simply reply to this thread with the template and fill it out. Include as much info as you can! Percentage of AHA, smell, product feel, packaging, effects on your skin, etc. Comment template notes:'Type of AHA' should be noted on the product or in the ingredients list; common AHAs include glycolic acid, lactic acid, and mandelic acid.'Amount' (%) is highly encouraged! Brands will often include that info in the product description, and sometimes review sites will have it as well. But if don't worry if you can't track it down.'Skin info' covers skin type, skin concerns and skin tone/ethnicity/Fitzpatrick type.'Ingredient list' is optional, but encouraged. Online sellers like Amazon and review sites like Beautypedia often list a product's ingredients.'Special info' covers anything that people might be specifically looking for. Like cruelty free / vegan / fatty alcohol free / fragrance free / pH value / etc. Depending on how you're browsing reddit (desktop, mobile), there are different formats to use. We've included both types to hopefully make formatting easy! 1. If you're on desktop and the comment box looks like this (Redesign), copy this:Product name:Type and amount of AHA:Price (range):Country of purchase:Skin info:Ingredient list:Special info:Experience & opinion: 2. If you're on desktop and the comment box looks like this (Legacy), copy this:**Product name:** **Type and amount of AHA:** **Price (range):** **Country of purchase:** **Skin info:** **Ingredient list:** **Special info:** **Experience & opinion:** Make sure there are two spaces at the end of each line! 3. If you're on the mobile app, you use the above format. But since the app won't let you copy & paste text, you can copy it from this google doc.(Sorry for the extra steps!) Don't forget to have fun!Of course, this thread isn’t just about listing a load of products - it’s also about sharing experiences! So feel free to chat about your product with others, or ask someone a question about the product they like, or share your experience with the product someone else has recced. Let’s make this thread both informative and fun :) If you're looking for recommendationsIf you're in this thread trying to find product recommendations, it can be helpful to look for users with skin types or skin concerns that are similar to yours. If you have any questions about the suitability of a product for your skin, or how to incorporate it into your routine, don't hesitate to post in the Daily Help Thread stickied to the top of the front page. This thread is part of a big series of product recommendation threads. [PSA] Don't Save Leftover Clay Mask Like Me, An Idiot

Beauty Tips For Body Care
tl;dr: saved extra clay mask, didn't notice it was moldy, severe allergic reactionY'all are probably already smarter than me but just in case it saves anyone else... Last week I mixed up way too much Aztec Clay Mask. I made it in a small tupperware so I just popped the lid on and saved it to use later thinking I was being smart!! I used it a few times in the shower, not looking at the mask, just scooping some out with my hand and slathering it on. MEANWHILE I've been suffering from extreme full body hives and some swelling in my extremities for about five days. I emailed with my doc and we thought this was due to stress from self isolation because I wasn't using any new products, eating any new foods, etc. Well yesterday I went to use some of the mask on a pimple and it was FULL OF MOLD. I'm about 98% sure now that this was an allergic reaction to the mold and even if it wasn't I feel extremely grossed out (and stupid!!) that I was slathering this on my face. I am starting to mend now (Claritin, Benadryl, lots of rest, lots of water) but this could have been really bad especially if I needed medical attention right now. Please be more vigilant than I was and be safe out there!

CeraVe — SPF 30 Facial Lotion is a bust. [review]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve recently purchased the Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser, the Resurfacing Retinol Serum, the AM spf 30 Facial Moisturizing Lotion, and PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion a couple of days ago.I have combo skin and my focus is cleaning out my pores, minimizing my enlarged pores, and fading my old acne scars.I’ve noticed that the spf lotion leaves white flakes on my skin as I’m applying it. It’s very noticeable because I have medium skin tone.Anyway, the spf sucks and it has an awkward chalky texture, but I don’t have an opinion on the rest as of yet.

Glycerin could infact be a better hydrater than Hyaluronic Acid [Miscellaneous]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Firstly I'm not an expert, just genuinely curious. I was wondering what might be good hydrater and did my own research. I know that HA is all the craze but is it really better than Glycerin? And needless to say glycerin is far less expensive than HA. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Here's a research paper I found: http://www.e-ajbc.org/m/journal/view.php?number=640Also a YouTube interview with Perry Romanowski who's apparently one of World's leading cosmetic chemist. https://youtu.be/_pC_8nfiySQI've used none of the products but just wanted to do my homework before I do. What do you think? Let me know!

[Misc] What are the best things for your skin to put in a bath?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know it might not sound skincare related, but my skin can be so dry and dehydrated after showers and baths, especially baths, that I am wondering what great products/ingredients there are to decrease dryness or have anti-inflammatory, soothing benefits. Currently, I'm only using epsom salt, and not very frequently.

[Misc] Why Retinol % can be misleading

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Companies sometimes share the percentage retinol they use, but it's good to realize this is sometimes not the percentage of the pure retinol, but of a mixture.Phrases like "we use 1% coated retinol" , "a 1% retinol complex serum" or we use "0.5% slow release retinol" are indicications they are most likely referring to a mixture. Percentages like 2% or 3% also mean they are referring to a mixture. In general the percentage of retinol in coated forms is about 5-8%, so this means when a company uses 1%, the final percentage will be about 0.05-0.08%.Companies may list everything below 1% in random order, so they try to get that 1% line high up on the ingredient list. Try to spot that 1% line it can be helpful to determine wether the % is referring to a mixture or to the actual pure retinol. Of course this is can also really help for other active ingredients. Some ingredients that are commonly used at or below 1%: Phenoxyethanol, Parabens, Levulinic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glyceryl Caprylate, Tocopherol, Caprylyl Glycol, EDTA's, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Carbomer, Hyaluronic Acid, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Allantoin, Bisabolol, Ubiquinone, Peptides, Retinoids, Ceramides, Fragrance, most plant extracts in powder form etc.And look for ingredients that are used in these standard mixtures, commonly used coated/mixture forms can for example be found here:https://www.ulprospector.com/en/na/PersonalCare/search?k=retinol&st=1First example, M. Asam Retinol 1% Intense:Claim: 1% retinol in encapsulated formIndications it's not 1%: Retinyl Palmitate is usually used below 0.3%. Polyurethane Crosspolymer-1 and Glycine Soja Oil are part of RetiCap PF, most likely this serum contains 0.08% Retinol.Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Glyceryl Oleate Citrate, Retinyl Palmitate, Retinol, Panthenol, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Tocopherol, Lauroyl Lysine, Dipentaerythrityl Pentaisononanoate, Carbomer, Polyglyceryl- 10 Laurate, Xanthan Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polyurethane Crosspolymer- 1, Caprylyl Glycol, Bht, Disodium Edta, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, PhenoxyethanolSecond example, Inkey List Retinol Serum:Claim: 1% stable retinol and 0.5% granactive retinoidIndications it's not 1%: Tocopherol, Carbomer in general are not used above 1%. Caprylyl Glycol in combination with other preservatives is in general not used above 1%, this means there's less than 1% Dimethyl Isosorbide (part of) Granactive Retinoid contains 10% Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, so 0.05% in this formula. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (and) Sodium Ascorbate (and) Tocopherol (and) retinol is called RetiSTAR. This contains 5% Retinol, so at 1%, there's 0.05% retinol in this formula.Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Propanediol, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Dimethicone, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Phospholipids, Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Squalane, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Extract, Carbomer, Sodium Ascorbate, Tocopherol, Polysorbate 60, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycolipids, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium Edta, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Retinol, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterol, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Hyaluronic Acid, Polysorbate 20, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, PhenoxyethanolThird example,Dr Brandt 2% Retinol serum:claim 2% Retinol ComplexWhy it's not 2%: Tocopherol and Phenoxyethanol are not used above 1%. Could be "Retinol C50 by Amcol" or "Iuvenesens® B-15". So most likely 0.3%. Think how about how the fancy packaging and marketing makes you think this is really worth $70, while you can get tretinoin or adapale for much less.Water, Glycerine, Dicaprylylcarbonaat, Isoamyl Lauraat, Cyclopentasiloxaan, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Boter, Shea Butter Cetyl Esters, Triheptanoin, Tocoferol, Phenoxyethanol, Behenyl Alcohol, Methylpropaandiol, Glycerylstearaatcitraat, Polysorbaat 20, Natriumacrylaten Copolymeer, Retinol, Glycerylstearaat , Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Xanthan Gum, Betaine, Polyglyceryl-3 Stearate, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Limonene, Chlorphenesin, Caprylyl Glycol, etc...Fourth example, Sunday Riley A+ High Dose 6.5% Retinoid :Claim: 5% retinoid ester, 1% liposomal-encapsulated retinol, 0.5% blue-green algeaProbably the 5% refers to Granactive Retinoid, you can't use 50% of this, so that means there's 0.5% Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate. Which seems correct since the 1% line is around Diheptyl Succinate. The Retinol is less than 1%, it's liposomal encapsulated, so this could be "Iuvenesens® B-15" as well, probably this means there's about 0.2% Retinol. So instead of the claimed 6.5% Retinoid, you are actually getting 0.7% actual retinoid and some unproven plant extract.Water/Eau/Agua, Propanediol, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Triheptanoin, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Hexyldecanol, Disiloxane, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Diheptyl Succinate, Propylene Carbonate, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, PPG-24-Glycereth-24, Phenyl Trimethicone, Retinol, Ubiquinone (CoQ10), Honey Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Algae Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Extract, Opuntia Ficus-indica Fruit Extract, Bisabolol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Phospholipids, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract, Lecithin, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, 1,2-Hexanediol, 4-t- Butylcyclohexanol, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Helianthus Annuss (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sorbitol, Cetylhydroxyproline Palmitamide, Polysilicone-11, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Sodium Phytate, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Polysorbate, Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid, Stearic Acid, Brassica Campestris Sterols, PVP, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Sodium Benzoate, Alcohol, Potassium Phosphate, Decyl Glucoside, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, TocopherolFifth example: Indeed labs Retinol Reface:Claim 1% retinoid fluid, 1% retinol time release complex encapsulated, 3% retinol like peptidesLooking at the position of Dimethyl Isosorbide, there's most likely 1% Granactive Retinoid, so 0.1% Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate. Retinol is under the 1% line, I'm not completely sure which form is used but could be Retinol 10S, so this means 0.1% final concentration. Xanthan Gum in normal viscosity products is usually something like 0.2%. Peptides at 3%, this mixture contains 100ppm and 50ppm, so 0.0003% and 0.00015% respectively. So instead of think to get 5% pure actives, you are getting something like 0.2%.Water, Dimethicone, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Propanediol, Caprylyl Methicone, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Cetearyl Glucoside, Peg-100 Stearate, Butylene Glycol, 4-t-butylcyclohexanol, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Acrylate/sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Isohexadecane, Xanthan Gum, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Polysorbate 80, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, Retinol, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Acacia Senegal Gum, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Tocopherol

[MISC] If you had to pick one skincare line for everything what would it be? And which brand do you refuse to touch with a 10 foot pole?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This article reminded me of something that crosses my mind occasionally... skincare lines often say their individual products are formulated to work with products in their same line (a marketing strategy for sure, but probably some truth to it) but obviously we all mix and match our favorite products all the time depending on what works best for us.But, just for quarantine-something-to-think-about-fun, if you had to stick to ONE brand/line of skincare (not including makeup), what would it be and WHY? Which products from that line? And on the flip side, what is the ONE brand/skincare line you will not touch with a ten foot pole?

[Acne] Found the trigger for my random mouth/chin breakouts - microwave popcorn!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have rosacea and dry skin but usually would only get a pimple or two around the time I get my period. There have been times when I would get huge breakouts around my mouth but that hasn't happened in a couple years until recently. I tried to figure out the cause and then it dawned on me. The only thing I did differently was eat microwave popcorn. I used to buy it weekly years ago, but then did the keto diet. After failing to stick to keto, I still continued to eat fairly healthy. While shopping a few weeks ago, I saw popcorn was on sale and figured I would indulge again. I had a bag every day for 3 days.Cue massive breakout around my mouth and chin. And guess where the popcorn touches when I shovel it into my face?! I quit the popcorn and the breakout has gone away. Lesson learned!I am usually cautious about not letting food sauces and whatnot sit around my mouth while eating, but I never considered popcorn since it's kind of dry. But the microwave kind has many chemicals in it. I don't know exactly what my skin hates, but I know I will never buy it again to save my skin.

[Misc] Skincare experts, what are your thoughts about vitamin C serums and their derivates?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone, so I've come across a review lately which seemed to have been very well researched and I wanted to know what you guys think about it.The reviewer claimed: "If vitamin C serums are discussed, one has to differentiate between the pure ascorbic acid and its derivates. One one side, the vitamin derivates have the advantage of often being more stable, biodegradable, and gentle to the skin. On the other side it can be said that they don't improve collagen synthesis not nearly as well as ascorbic acid"Then they went on to mention the differences, pros and cons of pure Ascorbic Acid as well as the derivates Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate. In the end they claimed SAP was really great for weakening pigmentation and preventing akne, but it fared worse in terms of collagen synthesis compared to AA and MAPConsidering I'm not nearly as experienced on the topic as most of you here, I'd really appreciate some input about this from you experts :)

[Miscellaneous] Something in my niacinamide serum made my eyebrows look amazing.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I overplucked my eyebrows as a teen and, in the 25 years that have elapsed since, they'd never returned to their pre-teen lushness, in spite of the application of various eyebrow-growth potions and castor oil.Until...maybe a month or two after using a niacinamide serum daily, I noticed my eyebrows looked amazing. They were almost as full and healthy-looking as they'd been in childhood. I wasn't doing anything special for them at the time, and the niacinamide serum had been the only change in my skincare routine.I stopped using the niacinamide serum on my skin, life got busy, and my eyebrows reverted to their sparse, skinny condition. So I'm quite certain the serum was helping them.I'm going to go back to using the serum just on my eyebrows and will continue to buy it for this purpose. (I felt it might have been a bit strong for my sensitive skin.)It's the 10% Niacinamide Serum from SkinlexIngredients:Water, Niacinamide, N-Acetyl Glucosamine, Panthenol, Willow Bark Extract, Butylene Glycol, Licorice Root Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Allantoin, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Citrate, Ethylhexyglycerin, Phenoxyethanol.I think it must be the panthenol that worked wonders for my brows(?) Any other ideas of what might have helped them?

Products with retinol + niacinamide? [Routine help]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Looking for product recommendations!I have combo skin with constantly big clored pores everywhere. I used to use salicylic acid both AM & PM but since I've started using retinol at night, I swapped out salicylic acid for niacinimide in the PM (since salicylic acid can worsen retinol irritation while niacinimide can reduce it). Currently I use TO Niacinimide + Zinc followed by TO 2% Retinoid in Squalane as a moisturizer.I'm looking to simplify my routine (I get lazy when I have to layer too many products) so looking for products with both niacinmide and retinol. Almost every one I've found has acids as well, and you shouldn't really have acids and retinol/niacinimide in the same product since they function at different pH ranges (niacinimide is ~5.0-7.0, retinol is ~5.5-6.0, acids <4)Here are the ones I've found so far:-100% Pure Potent PM Serum: with 10% niacinmide + 1% retinol + CoQ10 + no acids this looks like the best candidate, but sadly out of my budget. edit: also just realized it has bergamot and sweet orange essential oil which I react really poorly too-La Roche Posay Face Serum: a good candidate. looks like the retinol is 0.3%, couldnt find the % niacinimide-Eva Skin Clearing Serum: has SA & HA-QXR labs Niacinimide + Retinol serum: has HA-Dr. Sam's Flawless Nightly Serum: has azelaic acidAny suggestions?

[Routine Help] acne and dermatillomania

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! I'm 21F and I have dermatillomania. I've just purchased Cosrx blackhead treatment, and I bought the AHA treatment as well. My acne isn't bad at all, but my OCD makes everything worse... I usually have hormonal blemishes. I would really like someone to help me creating a routine to clear my acne, because it's really messing up my mental health. At the moment I'm using a salicylic acid cleanser, Eucerin moisturiser with 5% urea and benzoyl peroxide as spot treatment. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

hey /r/skincareaddiction! obligatory ~longtime lurker~ here!this sub has helped me develop my skincare routine to the point of feeling comfortable enough to go without concealer/foundation/powder/xyz. I have ocd along with dermatillomania so my skin changing for the better not only helps my self-esteem, but has psychologically transformed me.. so I’m deeply thankful for the posts and comments I’ve lurked on over the years. so.. thanks :)looking for: help with my current routine (listed at end of post) for my sensitive, combination/oily skin! I began my current routine 7/4/19 and it's been the same until I added the vit c+ serum 3/3/20. no negative changes since then aside from some product peeling if I use an oil blotting tissue too hard but that's user error on my endcurrent issue: cheek and forehead/temple oiliness. it’s nothing too serious but I’m developing whiteheads in the worst areas (left temple and cheek area by nose). I use an oil blotting tissue 2-3x a day and use the entire thingabout self/habits: 28 y.o. female reception/med records in a nursing home and try to use alcohol prep pads on my phone as much as possible, as well as washing my linens/etc. I wash my hands obsessively and try not to touch my face often, especially during this pandemic. I do wear glasses so I may touch my face without meaning to. I also alcohol swab down my glasses daily. I drink a ton of water!!thoughts: I'm not sure if I need to add another toner (cosrx came out with some new acne products), or cut down on the amount of vit c+ serum I use.. or if I simply am on the wrong track. two products I'm debating on trying are: cosrx two-in-one poreless power liquid OR cosrx aha 7 whitehead power liquid and subbing it for the cosrx bha I never use. [Skin Concerns] Has cutting down on sugar helped to improve your skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys,I don't know what to do to keep from getting pimples. Pimples mostly appear on the cheeks, and sometimes on the chin. They're quite red. Even though I've adapted my routine by using only natural products (jojoba oil and tea tree), I still have about ten pimples that appear and disappear. So I wonder if my diet has anything to do with these pimples. For people who have changed their diet and reduced sugar, have you seen any improvement on your skin?I've also had an IUD for two years. I used to be on the pill. Could this have something to do with the appearance of pimples?

[Skin Concerns] Prolonged mask-wearing is breaking down the skin on my face. Need advice on ways to both treat and prevent it from worsening.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello wise folks of r/SkincareAddiction!I come to you for help today with the issue I referenced in the title. So I am an RN at a large hospital in NYC, and if you have been even semi conscious at a minimum, then you know that due the current pandemic, we are at the beginning of the upsurge of patients sick with COVID-19. We are slammed already. The virus is everywhere, and my unit is about to go full-COVID-19. As such, I have been needing to wear a respirator mask covered by a droplet mask with a face shield, for 13 hours a day X3 days. And my skin, particularly on the bridge of my nose, is suffering badly. Super red, raw, and rough from the pressure and chaffing. It looks like it may scab soon. It hurts and it looks pretty awful. I will be required to wear this PPE for the foreseeable future, and I’m afraid of how bad it may hurt my skin.I am looking for some suggestions for products that may be good for treating this type of skin problem, if anyone has any ideas? I’d truly appreciate any help so much. Thanks!

I'm also taking magnesium supplements along with it so I've decided to stop taking both until my skin gets clear then reintroduce them individually and see what happens. I've also been stressed more than usual with the current state of reality so that could be a factor as well.Has anyone taking collagen powder and noticed any side effects? [review] hand care for constant hand washing

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/tecJVApNeutrogena hydroboost hand cream: this has really helped with the dry feeling i get after washing my hands. if you're washing your hands often (as you should be) this stuff is light as air and perfect aftercare. helps keep my cuticles nice and soft throughout the day, plus baby soft hands! scent is fairly strong however.. its a powerful "clean" scent. if you're sensitive to fragrance this may not be for you. i use this cream after i wash my hands or if i want a pick-me-up! a pea size amount is more than enoughTO rosehip oil: a must have for hand recovery! rosehip oil is lightweight and absorbs in seconds. i put 4-5 drops in my palm and rub it into my hands for about 5 minutes, focusing on my cuticles and nails. its a great relaxing self-care treat for me lol. this has restored moisture to my nails and actually strengthened them too! no more peeling nails over here (huge problem i had previously) no noticable fragrance, i urge anyone reading to add this to their hand care regime!LUSH helping hands cream: this has been in my nightly routine for years. i can't recommend it enough! its a fairly heavy duty cream with a dreamy honey/lavender fragrance (i personally love it.) a pea sized amount massaged into the hands and cuticles is enough to last until the next night. it quenches your hands in moisture and is such a treat to use. i enjoy massaging product into my hands for a while, but it might not be enjoyable for others. it takes at least 5 minutes to absorb and leaves a "film" on your hands. because this is a cream i use at night, I don't mind

[Routine Help] I want to introduce some of "The Ordinary" products into my skincare routine.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone,I have acne-prone skin. I went through a period of a lot of pimples in my cheeks and redness but, as of now, my skin has cleared up a lot. However, I do sometimes get random pimples that do not fully develop as pimples but more as a red dot and they stay in my face for weeks. I also think I have a combination of oily/dry skin and it is kinda hard to tell if I should use things for dry or oily skin.I wanna know your routine if you have similar problems and if you recommend any of the ordinary products. I really want to try them out since the price and reviews are great. I do not have a skincare routine more than washing my face with Cetaphil and put avenoo moisturizer once in a while.I want to start caring for my skin and treated more gently.Thank you guys.Stay home, safe and sane!!.

[Personal] i had a random bout of cystic acne for a few weeks and found out i am sensitive to cyclopentasiloxane. after getting rid of it from my routine, my skin cleared up!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
tldr at bottom - hope this fits the rulesi didn’t have good skin until i was in my early 20’s but even then it wasn’t completely clear. in february, my skin got really bad with cystic acne popping up by my cheeks, mouth, and jaw. i ran out of the makeup i usually used and was using makeup that i had around. i was also using a new foundation someone recommended me. the problem was that, even after i stopped using the foundation or was trying a new one, the acne wouldn’t go away. at that point i thought it was hormonal bc cystic until i stumbled onto a comment where someone mentioned they were sensitive to cyclopentasiloxane and got cystic acne as a result from it.i checked the ingredients of all the products i was using and it was in everything (except the makeup i was using before i ran out). i honestly threw out like 5 drugstore foundations, 2 lotions, 2 primers, and a concealer and bought products that didn’t have it. my skin quickly got better and now i have clear(er) skin again.tldr: i’ve been seeing a lot of posts with people dealing with cystic acne. i’m not an expert but found that i personally got cystic acne as a result of an ingredient that’s in a lot of drugstore products. the ingredient is cyclopentasiloxane

products to help skin heal from dermatillomania [Routine Help]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! I have recently gotten more into skin care but have a few concerns with the state of my current skin. I suffer from dermatillomania, an OCD related disorder where I compulsively pick and scratch at my skin. I mostly pick at my face using fingers or tweezers. I have been doing this since I can remember, probably around 5 or 6. With therapy, it has become a lot more manageable, but I still find myself going to town a few times a week.I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for skin care products that can held with redness, scaring, or generally help with healing skin.I also pull out hair on my legs and have several scars from that. Are there any products that could help reduce scaring on my legs? Thanks!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there! a couple days ago I started getting these tiny tiny bumps around my mouth and cheek area so suddenly. Here’s a pic of the area of concern: https://ibb.co/g6BD1Mg . I didn’t know where it came from since I haven’t eaten dairy or sugar in a year, wash my pillowcases every 2 days and I have a pretty solid routine: Am: Vanicream gentle cleanser (i tried skipping morning cleanse but it gave me more pimples) Sunjoong 5.5 hydrating toner Hada labo skin plumping gel Pm: Vanicream gentle cleanser Sunjoong 5.5 hydrating toner (Sometimes PC’s Glycolic gel) Squalane oilMy suspicion it’s fungal??? I had the same problem last summer and tried nizoral at the same time of starting this routine ^ and it went away. But now it is just really stubborn and I think it could be because I haven’t used the nizoral mask in like 3 months. Any input appreciated!

[routine help] eczema getting worse from handwashing, trying dream cream from lush because it’s so hyped up but feeling hopeless. does anyone have any advice for blistering, itchy skin?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
i’m wondering if anyone else has any experience with dream cream, because all the online reviews are crazy, saying that it cured their lifelong eczema, it’s the only product they’ll ever use etc etc. i bought myself a tub and have admittedly only had it two days, but i feel like my eczema has only gotten itchier and the patches bigger since then! i’m feeling so hopeless, my hands are so sore and inflamed that i can’t even put rubber gloves on to do my dishes. i’m constantly thinking about how much they itch. a little while ago i was given steroid cream from my doctor but that just makes it burn :~( i’m 24 and only developed eczema like, two years ago and it comes and goes, so i’m largely pretty ignorant on how to treat it.my hands fingers and wrists are currently all blistered. should i stick the dream cream out for the supposed miracle qualities it has? or should i go back to putting dr jart’s ceramidin on? or neither... ?

[Meta] Can we please stop with the PSA posts?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
This subreddit is called skincare “addiction”. We are here to discuss skincare. People are allowed to behave how they would like. These PSA posts are, honestly, sometimes quite condescending and judgmental. We’re all here for a good time not a long time, as Drake says haha. And yes, the Corona virus one is important. The ones with people dictating how much to use a product, how someone should feel about themselves, or otherwise control someone’s behavior as a “PSA” is frankly rude. If someone feels ugly, they’re allowed to express that opinion and seek help. Telling people “oh you aren’t ugly” online when you’ve never seen the user doesn’t fix anything and can even make the other person feel invalidated in their own thoughts.

[Anti-Aging] Don’t throw away those samples or products that didn’t work for you, use them on your hands!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
We all have a stockpile of samples and brands that didn’t work for our face, and with all of us washing our hands so often, caring for them right now is incredibly important!Hands are the first parts of you that show signs of aging. Even if your face looks great, your hands will give away your age every time.I’m in my forties, and my skin has changed, and often I buy products or end up with a ton of samples that I just don’t want to try or don’t feel like going to the store to return.About a year ago, I started using them on my hands. While the skin on my face is sensitive, my hands can take a beating. I’m a RN, and constant handwashing and use of sanitizer had them looking ragged.Plus, sometimes I don’t want to try something that maybe has one or two uses or risk changing my routine and triggering a breakout.I only place the products on my hands with my nighttime routine or right before I go to bed, that way I won’t wash them for several hours.Don’t forget to include them during your sunscreen application!Sorry for any formatting issues. The acne has been getting better every day and I'm beginning to find my confidence again.Thank you so much to everyone who is so kind and helpful here. You all have taught me so much and I'm so grateful for it.

[Acne] I wanted to share my progress somewhere because I think I was finally able to crack the code to my skin, with the help of a dermatologist to kickstart the process. (first two pictures are from January 2019, second two pictures are now, March 2020)

[Acne] I think it’s acne but I don’t know much about much. I’m just looking to not have these blemishes and take care of my skin after years of neglect.

[Routine Help] Need products to reduce scarring/hyperpigmentation without breaking me out

Beauty Tips For Body Care
tldr; need something to fade my hyperpigmentation that doesnt break me out like crazyI have generally normal/slightly oily skin, with a few hormonal breakouts on my cheeks and chin. The few breakouts i do get cause very dark pigmentation, even if dont touch or pick at them.I have been trying to fade and even out my skin tone, but every single product i have tried has caused really deep cystic acne on my cheeks. I used each product as reccomended, and integrated them individually for a few weeks.Products that havent worked:Cerave foaming cleanser for normal/oily skin with HATO Niacimanide with HATO Glycolic AcidTO Mandelic AcidTO Lactic AcidPixi Glow Tonic (5%)Neutrogena Hydroboost Wet Gel MoisturiserNipFab Glycolic Fix Liquid 2%My current routine is :AM Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser Cetaphil Light MoisturiserPM Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser Cetaphil Light Moisturiser Garnier Micelar Water to take off makeup I alternate sudocrem or benzoyl peroxide (5%) on my breakouts until they have healedI dont use any other skin care products, but my skin seems to have no issue with any kinds of makeup products, including the TO foundation and primer. The only facemask that hasnt broken me out is a DIY indian tumeric mask. Can anyone recommend products that can help fade scars without breaking me out?

[Routine Help] I’m not sure which ones to use. My mom has been giving me a bunch of skin care stuff but I’m not sure in exactly what order I should use a product and during what time.

[Skin Concern] Hey guys was wondering what’s wrong with my skin. It’s sometimes itchy and always look irritated despite using cerave hydrating cleanser. Could drooling on my pillow be the cause of this? Please let me know what I should do for my skin and what products I should use. Thank you:)!!!

[Misc] Just a PSA!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just wanted to share something important. I’ve been a part of this community for quite a while and I love it.We all know a “skincare addiction” can get pretty expensive. As you might have heard, the current state of the economy is an absolute disaster. We’re heading into a deep recession and a lot of people are worried about losing jobs. The whole shtick with the isolation and social distancing can cause panic/impulse buying very easily and set you back by a lot of money.Just thought I’d remind everyone to prioritize a rainy day fund. Definitely not a bad thing to invest in your skin, plus buying stuff will stimulate the economy. However, the days up ahead do not seem too good and it never hurts to be prepared. Stay safe and healthy everyone!
