Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been dealing with a very compromised skin barrier with tight lines around my chin and cheeks, a bit of rosacea, difficulties yawning without feeling stretching, and general irritation and sensitivity (especially on my chin). This is despite trying everything under the sun to fix my skin barrier over the past 2 years or so:cleansing just once a day with gentle non-foaming cleansers (CeraVe, Cetaphil, La Roche Posay, The Ordinary Squalane cleanser)various oil cleansers used alone (Albolene, Hada Labo, pure avocado oil, pure squalane)—I tried this thinking it’d be gentler than even the cleansers above3 step moisturizing with humectants on wet skin (urea, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin products), cream (countless of the gentlest most recommended creams), and a petrolatum slathering (Vaseline, Aquaphor, CeraVe healing ointment, Soon Jung cica sleeping pack, pure shea butter)barrier repairing ingredients like niacinamide, ceramides, cholesterol, etc.anti-irritation ingredients like colloidal oatmeal, allantoin, licorice root, etc.touted “miracle products” for your barrier like Stratia Liquid Gold and Superdrug Moisturizing Serum (both of these did do some good)I use no exfoliants or actives like acids, retinoids, or Vitamin C. Just cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.None of the above fixed my skin barrier. After slathering on my 3 moisturizers at night, I would have some success first thing in the morning and would digress from there throughout the day.The last thing I thought to try was to stop washing my face and not apply anything on it altogether. I am on day 5 and my skin is bouncy, resilient, non-greasy, has no more tight lines, it no longer feels stretchy to open my mouth, and I’m not getting rosacea. My skin looks and feels healthy and balanced for once, without even a need for moisturizers. I’ve been at a snowy cabin with something like 10% humidity and constant heating going on for 2 days now, and my skin is still beating off all this dryness. I think this is what it’s like to have a functional skin barrier guarding my skin.My guess is that foregoing cleanser is the thing helping me most (I can’t imagine my moisturizers were doing anything bad to my skin barrier). The problem is: I can’t get away with this for long because I need to return to using daily sunscreen (La Roche Posay Ultra Cream SPF 50+), especially as we transition out of winter. And eventually I’d like to wear make-up again. How can I apply these things without going back to using cleanser? Even using pure oil to cleanse didn’t work for me—I don’t get it! Does anyone have any suggestions?
