[Review] [Sun Care] Versed Guards Up Daily Mineral Sunscreen

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Full product name: Versed Guards Up Daily Mineral Sunscreen SPF 35Available: Target or Versed directly onlinePrice: $22 USD for 50 mLAbout my skin: Very dry, Fitzpatrick III, Rosacea, extremely sensitive skin and eyesClimate: SF Bay Area (so spring-like almost all year, lots of sun)My relationship with sunscreen: I hate suncreen and most sunscreens hate me. I can't use any of the US chemical filters and use others sparingly. I hate the smothering feeling of a lot of sunscreens and have had a lot of trouble finding ones that I tolerate. My skin is also so dry that zinc can be problematic because it's often drying/matte. I'm currently using: Kinship Self-Reflect Probiotic Sunscreen and Biossance Squalane + Zinc. I've tried (and hated) a bunch: Avene SPF 50 Mineral Suncreen, Cerave SPF 50 and SPF 30 mineral suncreens, Blue Lizard, Green Goddess etc.Sunscreen Filters: Zinc Oxide (15.2%)Ingredients: Zinc Oxide, Water/Aqua/Eau, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Diheptyl Succinate, C18-21 Alkane, Erythritol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Propanediol, Arachidyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Tocopherol, Caprylyl Glycol, Coco-Glucoside, Ethyl Ferulate, Behenyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Bisabolol, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Citric Acid, Sodium Gluconate, Xanthan Gum, Octyldodecyl Oleate, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters, Sodium Hyaluronate, Crithmum Maritimum Extract, Maltodextrin, Moringa Oleifera Seed Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492).Ingredient Callouts: Fragrance free, silicone free, paraben-free, alcohol-free, should be fungal-acne safeThis is an all-mineral, zinc-oxide only sunscreen. It's tinted with warm undertones, but doesn't seem to provide any sort of coverage. The color on my hand is notably different than my skintone (much warmer, less red) but it blends in very well. I don't get a white cast with this (but I am pale-ish). It doesn't cover any of my redness or give an airbrushed look like some tinted sunscreens do.Texturally, this feels somewhat like a gel moisturizer. It's silicone free so it feels fairly light on the skin once it's on. I hate the suffocating feeling of some of the high-silicone mineral sunscreens out there. The spread on this is impressive and I don't have a problem using the recommended amount and getting it to look nice. The finish is dewy/natural. It's definitely shiny at first, but tones down to look natural/hydrated. I don't find that it settles into any creases or leaves my skin too dry at the end of the day. This might move around on you if you have oily skin. I haven't had any skin irritation from using it for the past week, but will update this if I get any.The packing of this is a tube with a twist off lid. It's pretty easy to use and made of mostly post-consumer material, which is cool. I have no complaints with the packaging other than wishing that the product was sold in a larger size (this won't last long). One negative: the smell is sort of chemically/gross. It doesn't smell like sunscreen per say, but there's a sort of irony, weird smell to it when you first put it on. It does dissipate pretty quickly, but if you're scent-sensitive it's something to keep in mind. There's no fragrance in it at all.In terms of sun protection: I'd rather see a higher SPF, but this performs adequately for me when I go for walks. I haven't had any burning or increases in hyper pigmentation or flares of my rosacea since I've been using it.I'd say this is a good option for anyone looking for a silicone-free zinc-oxide only mineral sunscreen. I think it would perform best for people with dry/normal skin. It seems to be protective, the texture is nice, and it doesn't leave a noticeable whitecast, greasiness, or chalkiness. It's not waterproof, but holds on during my walks if I get sweaty. Overall, I'm fairly impressed and likely will repurchase this!
