[Shelfie] First Shelfie! My Budget* Routine for Acne/Combination Skin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
First Shelfie!Hello all! This is my first post after much lurking! I am SO glad to have found this sub!!⭐Unnecessary Backstory⭐: My skin care journey has been riddled with mostly failures and frustrations of dealing with a variety of acne. My acne began showing when I was about 10 or 12. Growing up I had the mom who had been effortlessly beautiful her whole life, she never had more than the occasional spot, ate whatever she wanted, and only washed her face with a dove body bar at the end of the day (yes you read that right 🙄). This is important because I trusted her guidance for many years without knowing/understanding that her great skin was mostly genetics and that her product suggestions were essentially shots in the dark at what might help. Some products of this era include: Stridex extra strong toner pads, Aspirin paste, cooked lemon juice, coconut oil. The approach here was basically burn the acne away 💀 (it didn't work). Cut to college when, having adverse reaction to bc, my acne worsened into a painful hormonal cystic acne across my cheeks that was leaving me with scars and hyper-pigmentation. This spurred me to research for approaches on how to treat my skin, understanding what kind of skin I had, causes of acne, and the importance of ingredients. After much MUCH much trial and error I have found a routine that works for my skin now!! My mom asks ME advice now on how to treat her signs of aging! 💖🧪Routine🧪I am 23F Medium Tan ComplexionSkin Type: Sensitive, Oily/Combination, Acne-ProneSkin Concerns: Hyper-pigmentation, PIE/PIH scars, enlarged pores, acne (OC, CC, Cystic/hormonal)Skin Goals: Reduce pore visibility, lighten hyper-pigmentation, balance skin, manage acne☀️AM☀️ELF Bounce Back Jelly Cleanser- ($6) Non-foaming, gentle daily cleanser4/5⭐This is a controversial product for some because it does have fragrance and some coconut derivatives BUT for the time being, and for the price (!!) it has worked exceptionally well for me. Jelly consistency, light coconut scent. Apply a pea size amount to dry skin, it washes off easily and leaves my skin soothed, and not tight. Works well as second cleanser too!The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%- ($10) Vitamin C5/5⭐ I use this to lighten my PIH/Hyper-pigmentation and to improve the texture of my skin. I use 2-3 drops for my whole face, focusing on my problem areas. It has a light citrus smell and a slight warming effect, feels oily but absorbs quickly. I leave this to dry/absorb 5-10 minutes to ensure the water from the moisturizer doesn't reduce its efficacy. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Hyaluronic Acid - ($5.80) Non-greasy hydrator4/5⭐ A light moisturizer for daily wear, my oily skin dislikes heavy or oily moisturizers so this works well. I use a pea sized amount and it dries/ absorbs quickly. It layers well under makeup. A bit disappointed by the price to size ratio BUT it works well for me!.🌙PM🌙DHC Deep Cleansing Oil- (listed at $5 at Target but I got this for $1 on sale)- Oil cleanser to remove makeup3/5⭐ Emulsifying cleanser, a thicker oil consistency. Removes mild makeup fine (not mascara too well) , but can occasionally leave a bit of a film if not washed off thoroughly and may sting eyes. Would not repurchase at full price.ELF Bounce Back Jelly Cleanser- Non-foaming, gentle cleanser, second cleanser4/5⭐(See Above)The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution- ($8.70) Exfoliating toner, for skin tone/ texture5/5⭐ I had a lot of difficulty finding/using toners that worked for my skin. This toner has a light medicinal scent, and absorbs quickly. I apply with a small cotton pad and let dry for 2-3 minutes. It has helped reduce my pore size and keep my skin feeling balanced. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%- ($5.90) Acne and scar treatment5/5⭐ Clear viscous texture, it absorbs quickly. I use 3 drops for my face (one on each cheek and one split for forehead and chin) and let it sink in/dry for 3-4 minutes. In the morning my PIE and active CC appear noticeably less irritated and smaller.Weleda Skin Food + A313 Vitamin A Pommade ( € 8, €6) Moisturize/Retinol step for skin texture/PIH5/5⭐ This is a HG combination for me, a half of a pea size amount of each, mixed on the top of my hand and then smoothed all over. It is a sticky, thick consistency but spreads well. It will absorb over night, the stickyness takes some getting used to. It has made my skin more luminous, helped reduce my breakouts and helped lighten my hyper-pigmentation/PIH. My sister brings these to me in bulk from France when she visits once a year. A tube of A313 lasts me about 10 months. Buying them stateside the markup online is INSANE ($20, $30 respectively)🥳 Closing Note🥳 : My list represents my purchasing power, I have a small budget and high demands of products. Prior to purchasing each one I thoroughly researched reviews and compatibility with my skin type.I will mention that, last year I bought the Mychelle Perfect C PRO Lotion ( 12% Vitamin C L-Ascorbic Acid & Vitamin B Niacinamide) at TJ Maxx on sale for $10 and it absolutely changed my life, and the quality of my skin. I will write a through review on this product. Although it was a HG product for me, when I attempted to repurchase it, the cost $38-$45 which was way out of my range. SO this led me to look for a dupe or replacement, which led me to The Ordinary! The AA+ Alpha Arbutin and the Niacinamide/Zinc products are my attempts to replicate the effects of this product and have worked thus far.Questions or concerns? Feel free to comment or ask!
