Beauty Tips For Body Care
For a long while, I felt like I was stuck in a bubble of the same 3-4 influencers that have morphed into reaction channels, with no real reviews and swatches. Armed with newfound free time, thanks to quarantine, and Jackie Aina’s video on fixing your social media algorithm, I set out to diversify my skincare YouTube feed. After months of concerted efforts, I’m happy with my feed and I wanted to share some of the wonderful channels I found along the way!Simply Ije:She does a lot of skincare and lifestyle videos, my favorite from her has to be her product comparison series. Her reviews are very detailed and I can tell she’s given a product an honest try before making her conclusions. Ije also has a series on sunscreen for dark skin that a lot of folks may find helpful. As a side-note, her perfume recommendations are just chef’s kiss.Chinmayi Sripada:ICON! I refrain from stan-culture but Chinmayi is the only exception. She does a lot of k-beauty skincare reviews along with some Indian lifestyle content but she truly shines during her collaborations with dermatologists, gynecologists, and other skincare social figures, like the queen, fiddysnails. She talks openly about a lot of social issues and typically “taboo” topics in Indian culture like vaginal and reproductive health. My uncultured ass can only wish to have an iota of grace and character Chinmayi does.Cathy on Skincare:Cathy’s channel is pretty new but her videos are well-produced and well-researched. She does quite a few reviews and her ingredient breakdowns are pretty easy to understand for newbies. Honestly, half the reason I follow her is because she has such a calming voice and an infectious smile.April Basi:April’s a cosmetic chemist, although some of her videos seems a bit clickbait-y (à la, “the TRUTH about XYZ”), I stay for the videos where she talks about products from a chemist’s perspective.Glow by Ramón:LOVE Ramon’s sunscreen reviews, they’re easily some of the best out there. He tries out the sunscreen for an entire day and then tries it on with makeup to do a wear test. Even though I don’t wear makeup, I appreciate the effort that goes into those videos.Lateef Saka:Found Lateef through Ramon and immediately shared him with my partner who has a rich skin tone with a beard, so finding a sunscreen for him is trickier than for most. Lateef does great reviews and ingredient breakdowns. The Style and Beauty Doctor:Danielle talks a lot about treating hyper-pigmentation and sunscreen, especially for deeper skin. She also reviews peels and dermatologist procedures like filler and botox. I personally love her Point Blank series.Director Pi:This woman is a legend. I can’t believe the content she puts out is free. If you’re interested in Korean beauty, Director Pi is your glossary of products. I honestly think she’s reviewed every single skincare product in the Korean market, that’s no exaggeration. Her videos are so well researched, with swatches, ingredient analyses, and all that you could ever want.Sarah Sarosh:Sarah is underrated in the Indian influencer sphere. She does mostly lifestyle content with a bit of skincare mixed in. I really enjoy her hyper-pigmentation series and her honest struggle with hormonal acne. She’s also one of the few Indian influencers who’s open about sponsorships and who celebrated Pride week in India.Jacob Degerano:Jacob does a mix of skincare and lifestyle content. He has a measured take on skincare and if you want to try something new, Jacob’s recommendations are generally outside the Ordinary-CeraVe product loop.Genevieve Fields:How is she not a big deal?! Is there an Asian sunscreen you want a swatch for? Genevieve probably has a review on it. Her videos are short, informative, and will answer any and all questions about the product. She single-handedly dictated my sunscreen purchases when I first got into skincare and I frequently revisit her videos. Some more channels:Kaya EmpireSarah PalmyraTina Tanaka HarrisKevin Cho
