[Acne] Controversial Dermatology Advice + Family Drama

Beauty Tips For Body Care
TLDR: I'm disappointed with the advice given by a dermatologist to my sister, hence I am seeking what everyone's opinions are on this forum, and mostly want to understand WHY a dermatologist would suggest such a treatment? (I am not a professional, so I am interested in learning). She has severe cystic acne and extremely oily skin, and the derm's recommended route of treatment is:differinmonthly chemical peelsantibiotics (doxycycline)cetaphil oily skin cleanserNO MOISTURISER (???)NO SUNSCREEN (?????????) (i have begged her to put it on in secret anyway)For those interested in the whole story, here it is:Context:My sister and I both have severe cystic acne with extremely oily skin.Being much older than her, I went through the same acne journey first and tried everything under the sun until I found what worked for me (accutane + no dairy + hydrating fragrance-free skin care).Seeing her go down the "dry the f**k out of your skin" route is making me cringe so hard because I remember myself taking that route which wreaked havoc to my skin over time.My mom is a controlling, tyrannical person who insists her way is the best and only way to do things. (I don't have a great relationship with her)She doesn't care about what I did then/do now to my skin, but for some reason is very invested in my sister's face. She insists that my sister visits this dermatologist who happens to be a close friend of hers...I totally disagree with the dermatologist's course of treatment, as I can see how crusty and painfully dry it is making my sister's skin. She has cried to me in secret that her skin feels like it is going to tear???I'm so heartbroken for her.. and I gave her a few of my hydrating face products (most importantly moisturiser and sunscreen) which brings immediate relief and makes her skin look so much less angry. One day while I'm at home, my mom discovers the stash of moisturising products in my sister's bathroom and starts verbally abusing her (so much drama over a cream... I know...) about how she is ruining her skin and wasting her money by not following the dermatologist's advice.I tried intervening by saying it was my products which I gave her. I explained my rationale that from personal experience, drying out the skin does more harm than good and I couldn't bear to see my sister's skin get ruined. It ended up becoming a pretty nasty argument and it concluded with me needing to "f**k off" and me not having the qualifications to tell her otherwise. lmaoas of writing, my sister is not allowed to have any moisturising products, but sneaks into my room to borrow my moisturiser and sunscreen when she needs it.... lol I cant believe it has come to this.So yeah... The story was mostly to provide answers to why she can't "just go to another dermatologist" or "just buy a moisturiser".I think the main question I want to ask everyone here is (especially those who are professionals)... what is the rationale behind drying out the skin as an acne treatment?? As someone who is not a professional, my only experience in skincare is my own extensive research + trial and error of what works and doesn't for me. I would greatly appreciate anyone's opinion. Thanks :)
