Beauty Tips For Body Care
Used to work as an ICU RN last year...reusing N95s led to the WORST acne ever. I have combo skin and I would get couple of hormonal spots every now and again but that's it. I never had issues with acne prior to this maskne from hell. Nothing helped. Not the $1000+ I spent at Sephora, or cutting out dairy, or facials. I frantically bought every product that promised it cured acne. All I did was irritate my face and give me scars. Finally went to a dermatologist in Jan 2021 (should have gone sooo much sooner) and these were the revolutionary things that ended up helping. I did end up doing a bunch of stuff at the same time just because I was so desperate to go back to my clear skin so I'm not sure if a combination of things worked but here it is:Spearmint tea (1 cup/day) and spironolactone. Took a while to start helping and I think I will get off of the spiro sooner rather than later because bleeding/spotting 3+ weeks a month is not fun. I'm currently trying to taper my dose down. IMO this helps more with prevention of new spots rather than fixing the ones you have...those deep cystic ones kind of need to come to a head and that purge is a painful process. But I've had no new breakouts...my chin, forehead, and L cheek are totally clear, just some scarring left. My right cheek is still purging but it's better than it has been in ages, I feel like the sticky pimple patches help with a lot.Derm recommended a walmart skincare routine. This is life-changing. I also started using https://acneclinicnyc.com/pore-clogging-ingredients/ to verify every product I was slapping on my face and (surprise) most of them had hidden oils or talc or other comedogenic ingredients.AM (linking the walmart online store but straight up, you can get these at target or CVS or whatever also):~ Neutrogena Clear Pore cleanser/mask: face feels so nice after using this. it's got 2.5% benzoyl peroxide so it's not too drying.~Neutrogena Water Gel: this isn't sticky or filmy at all, it just soaks right up and looks great under makeup.~CeraVe SPF : contains zinc, no white cast (I'm POC and i've struggled with finding a sunscreen with enough zinc oxide that doesn't make me look like Caspar the ghost when I use 3 fingers worth).if I don't want to wear makeup that day, I stop there. If I want some more coverage, my go-to is:~ Elf Camo CC Cream w/ beauty blender (they have shade match on the elf website, and they also carry a bomb concealer) and then top it off with the HD powder. This lasts all day, feels matte AF and has medium coverage with a natural finish. Seriously can't recommend this enough. Also has ceramides, niacinamide, and SPF 30.PM:~Cetaphil Face Gentle Makeup Remover: takes everything off in one go (mascara needs a little more TLC) and doesn't leave my face feeling like i smeared oil all over it.~Vanicream Gentle Facial cleanser: So, so gentle, it really cleans without stripping your face and making it feel tight.~Tretinoin cream 0.05% every other day~Neutrogena Water Gel, and if I'm feeling too much like a raisin, I'll top everything off with Vaseline.3) I stopped using hot water to wash my face and honestly this gave me the most dramatic results. I couldn't believe how much the redness subsided within a day! My skin is definitely still not completely clear but it has seriously improved in these last few months and I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.I hope this helps - I've struggled mentally in ways that I know people here can relate when it comes to my skin and I am so excited to be making headway but ultimately, self-acceptance is where peace of mind is at. I hope everyone has a beautiful day!
