Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone! With the current situation, I recently had some extra time on my hands so I decided to do an experiment.I recently learned that some people like to apply their sunscreen with a cushion puff (ala Fiddy Snails). I personally subscribe to the finger-pat method but have been using the puff occasionally because it gives me a less streaky finish. However, I'm worried the puff might be absorbing some of the sunscreen, which is why Fiddy recommends dispensing three fingers' worth to account for absorption.I still prefer patting sunscreen with my fingers but wanted to quantify exactly how much I'm losing with both fingers and puff.Earlier, I computed that I need around 0.66g of sunscreen for my face based on the 2mg/cm² recommendation. I've simplified it to 2/3 of my pointer finger, which comes out to 0.92g, which is a still a lot more than necessary but not so much as to be wasteful. (These measurements are only for the Purito Unscented sunscreen.)Puff Method:I weighed my unused cushion puff and it came out to 2.52g. I dispensed 0.92g of sunscreen and dotted it all over my thigh. (I had to use my thigh since it's nighttime and I have tretinoin on my face.)I didn't smear it with my fingers but patted it into an even layer using the puff. I then weighed the used puff and it came out to 2.90g. The puff ended up absorbing 0.40g of sunscreen! This is how much the puff absorbed. (It's exactly 0.40g but I accidentally tared the scale.) Pretty significant. When using a puff, definitely use more sunscreen than needed.Finger Pat Method:Again, I dispensed exactly 0.92g of sunscreen and dotted it all over my other thigh. Like with my face, I roughly smeared it with three fingers and patted it into an even finish.. I'm now left with the usual amount of sunscreen on my fingers.I scraped everything off with the scale container until my fingers were clean and weighed the scraped sunscreen. It came out to 0.033g. This is what it looks like on my finger. Pretty negligible.Of course, this might be completely different for you and for other sunscreens. Do what you will with this info. But for now, I'm sticking to the finger-pat method and applying a second layer.I hope you guys enjoyed this little experiment!

[Meta] How the F am I supposed to wash my face without getting water freaking everywhere??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
How the F am I supposed to wash my face without getting water everywhere? No matter how much I lean over the sink and carefully splash water on my face, the water always runs down to my elbows and pools all over the kitchen counter, occasionally even overflowing onto the floor. I’ve been washing my face night and day for months now and still have this problem. I have no idea how you skincare aficionados don’t have this problem.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Yesterday, on my daily quarantine walk, a small fly landed on my face and suddenly found itself in a Predicament. It couldn't fly away because it was stuck to my carefully applied layers of moisturizer. I couldn't stop laughing! I might be going crazy but at least I have skincare and nature to keep me entertained 😂

[Review] So I splurged and bought La Mer cream. I was super excited to try it tonight but as I did the consistency was nothing like I expected. But it was very familiar, at first I couldn't place it...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Nivea cream. I have a tub of nivea which is honestly fantastic for my skin but it's kinda thick and while trying other products I forgot I had some. I was so excited for La Mer but I swear to God I can't tell the difference between it and Nivea except for the smell. And the ridiculous instructions "rub between fingers to release the magical formula before applying" 🙄 k. I looked it up and sure enough, Nivea in the tub is a known La Mer dupe. La Mer has ingredients it doesn't like Lactic acid but I already use an acid toner. I'm hoping for the price that I see something from La Mer that Nivea didn't give, but I can already tell I'm not gonna buy again. Honesty really disappointed, I imagined it to be like soft and velvety and unlike anything I've tried at that price point. I guess I can say I tried it.

[Misc] New Year's Resolutions: Re-evaluating & March check-in
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone :)It's a weird time, I know. A lot of us are stressed and anxious and uncertain, and that's normal, even though it's unpleasant. In times like these, it's important to take good care of ourselves. Whether it's getting enough sleep, connecting with friends, or working on your skincare resolution. If the latter is a way in which you practice self-care (so not self-discipline, we're already putting enough restrictions on ourselves), this thread is for you!1) Checking inFirst, let's see how things are right now. Ask yourself (and share):What is the resolution you've set?How is it going so far? What struggles and triumphs have you had?2) Re-evaluate your resolutionIf you've participated in this series from the start, you set a resolution at the beginning of January (thread link here). A lot has happened since then. It's likely that your life and the situation you're in have changed significantly.Because of that, it's important to evaluate your resolution and make sure it still fits your current life circumstances.Ask yourself these questions about the resolution you set in January:Is it realistic considering the circumstances?Would working on it help me feel better? How could I adapt it to fit the changes in my life? Those are not easy questions, so talk them through with the rest of us in this thread :)On a personal noteThis is a rough time, and I try to remind myself that it's okay to struggle. Sometimes I feel hopeless, and other times I hear bird song and feel the sun in my face and it just seems okay. I've found that talking to the people I love is very important for my mental health, especially when I can see their face during a video call.To the folks who are are struggling: you're not alone. I thoroughly believe we're in this together. If you need help, look at the wonderful resources in the covid megathread, and most importantly: talk to the people you love.<3
