Beauty Tips For Body Care
Health care workers are on the front lines of the COVID-19 fight, putting their health and safety on the line to help others. We can help support them! Inspired by this thread, the ScA mods are letting me host a “Self-Care for Health Care” care package matchup! Here’s how it will work:IF YOU ARE A HEALTH CARE WORKER: PM me your address, as well as a pic of your work badge next to your username handwritten on a piece of paper. (Here’s a guide to private Imgur uploading if you need it.) I’ll only share your first name and address* with someone who wants to send you a care package.IF YOU WANT TO HELP: Either comment below that you’d like to help (please include your country so we can match you up with someone relatively close to keep postal costs down) or PM me. What should you send? Well, we’re in ScA so skincare is definitely appreciated! Also hand lotion, lip balm, snacks – basically anything to help health care workers take care of themselves! Here are a few of the comments from healthcare workers in the original thread to get you thinking (there’s some great product ideas in there too):"My face is suffering from 12 hour shifts of masks and goggles. My coworker bestie and I have been trying to find ways to take care of our skin (and hair from the high buns and constant washing) the best we can, but it’s tough!”“My hands are so dry from gloves and washing that they’re peeling.”"My hands are constantly cracking from the hand sanitizer and my nose is constantly raw and red from out plastic face shields.”To start, it’ll just be me matching health care workers up with supporters. This is a new endeavor for me, so please be patient as I learn and tweak the process to get the most people involved as possible! *Please note, ScA doesn’t have the resources or wherewithal to vet potential exchangers. Giving out personal info online (including addresses) should be thought over carefully.

[misc] Why does your skin look better first thing in the morning?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m literally just curious—does anyone know? My skin looks its best when I first wake up, before I do my morning routine even. Not sure why.

I'm after some REAL info about The Ordinary. [Product question]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi guys. Over the last few months I've become more and more curious about this brand. What makes it so cheap. Things have high percentages, but are they truly active? How active can they be to get through regulatory requirements for what is just a department store brand? Looking at their website, the pH of the their products seems perfect for ensuring their ingredients function, but I have also tried a couple of things and certainly haven't found them as good as my medical grade skincare - although some of the percentage claims on their ingredients are higher! Google searches provide me with nothing but what seems to be cult reviews, as does Reddit searches. Is there anyone out there who can talk science with me?::Edit:: I think I need to put this here - where I live, in NZ we have medsafe which regulates everything, including cosmetics. There are extensive lists of ingredients which aren't allowed to be included, and regulations for the use of things like nano particles. I assumed that would be the case for many countries but I've already had one scathing response that would indicate I am mistaken. But as I said above, I'm really looking for info on the science of The Ordinary, not opinions on pricing etc. Thanks (灬º‿º灬)♡

[MISC] My mom thought I was wearing foundation, and I almost cried from the compliment
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have struggled from really bad acne for so long. It literally ruined my life, and I’m not joking. I was never one to bother much with skincare, but when acne hit me with full force at the age of 15, my life turned upside down. 24/7 I would research on skincare stuff and any possible ways that I could do to help in clearing my skin.My grades dropped, depression became a huge issue, and I completely distanced myself even from my closest friends.Every time I go to gatherings, or places where I have to interact with people, there would always be comments such as ‘What happened to your face? Why do u have so much acne? Do you have allergies or something, cuz your face is so red.’ Every time I would hear such a thing, I would immediately isolate myself and cry.Anyway, I have finally reached a point where I’m truly satisfied with my skin. I rarely break out anymore, and that thought alone makes me so happy. One day, my family and I went out for my sister’s birthday, and my mom made a comment about how it’s unusual for me to wear so much makeup. I told her that I’m only wearing mascara and lipstick. She was surprised and said, ‘Really? I thought u were wearing foundation. Wow. How’d u do that?’Another incident that happened was when I met a friend that i hadn’t seen for a while. She was asking what foundation I was using right now (I was barefaced)To hear something like that, made me unbelievably happy. Having acne was one of the worst phases of my life. I’m so glad i’m finally out of it.

Any products you've been looking for everywhere but can't find anywhere? Any philosophies you would like the industry to adapt? Does something bother you a lot?Fyi I am a European teenager, so I am not asking this to get your money. I just want to see what the people want.

[Misc] If you're stuck at home, it's a great time to start Tretinoin. I just recieved a prescription from the CVS minute clinic yesterday.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had to go in anyway for a depo shot, so I thought I'd ask and the nurse practitioner totally wrote me a prescription for it. The cost was $90 for writing the prescription and $35 for the tretinoin itself without insurance.

[Miscellaneous] An Experiment on How Much Sunscreen is Left on Fingers/Puff After Application
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone! With the current situation, I recently had some extra time on my hands so I decided to do an experiment.I recently learned that some people like to apply their sunscreen with a cushion puff (ala Fiddy Snails). I personally subscribe to the finger-pat method but have been using the puff occasionally because it gives me a less streaky finish. However, I'm worried the puff might be absorbing some of the sunscreen, which is why Fiddy recommends dispensing three fingers' worth to account for absorption.I still prefer patting sunscreen with my fingers but wanted to quantify exactly how much I'm losing with both fingers and puff.Earlier, I computed that I need around 0.66g of sunscreen for my face based on the 2mg/cm² recommendation. I've simplified it to 2/3 of my pointer finger, which comes out to 0.92g, which is a still a lot more than necessary but not so much as to be wasteful. (These measurements are only for the Purito Unscented sunscreen.)Puff Method:I weighed my unused cushion puff and it came out to 2.52g. I dispensed 0.92g of sunscreen and dotted it all over my thigh. (I had to use my thigh since it's nighttime and I have tretinoin on my face.)I didn't smear it with my fingers but patted it into an even layer using the puff. I then weighed the used puff and it came out to 2.90g. The puff ended up absorbing 0.40g of sunscreen! This is how much the puff absorbed. (It's exactly 0.40g but I accidentally tared the scale.) Pretty significant. When using a puff, definitely use more sunscreen than needed.Finger Pat Method:Again, I dispensed exactly 0.92g of sunscreen and dotted it all over my other thigh. Like with my face, I roughly smeared it with three fingers and patted it into an even finish.. I'm now left with the usual amount of sunscreen on my fingers.I scraped everything off with the scale container until my fingers were clean and weighed the scraped sunscreen. It came out to 0.033g. This is what it looks like on my finger. Pretty negligible.Of course, this might be completely different for you and for other sunscreens. Do what you will with this info. But for now, I'm sticking to the finger-pat method and applying a second layer.I hope you guys enjoyed this little experiment!
