[Product Question] Are Clarisonics worth it?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Christmas is coming up, and I'm considering buying a Clarisonic brush! My question is, are Clarisonic brushes worth the money? Are they all hype? Also, I'm a guy, and they just came out with a one made especially for men. The problem is it's $190 versus the $99 Mia 1. Is there a difference that actually matters? Or is it just branding to get men who aren't familiar with skincare to spend more money?I know that's a lot of questions, but I greatly appreciate all feedback! Cheers :D

[Skin concerns] Redness after washing face
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have oily and acne prone skin, large pores, and problems with redness because I am very very pale. These problems have been slowly improving, though not as drastically as I'd like; I'm still working out a routine and trying to find products that work for me. Anyway I do have one specific concern that bothers me. After I wash my face it turns all hot and bright red. It is more significant when I use a cream cleanser. I don't feel tightness anymore, just warmness all over my face. This goes away after a while and I don't get hives or anything. It also goes red after I put on moisturiser, which is very frustrating because in the morning I want to wait until it goes down to put makeup on. I was just wondering if anyone knows why this is or what I can do to stop this?

[Review] My worse nightmare with Curology
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin is my biggest insecurity, I’ve suffered with acne for a little over a decade of my life. I’m currently 24 and have struggled with acne on and off since the age of 12. People in my life always told me that it would get better with age, that’s somewhat true yet a bit false. For the past two years I was able to control my acne and cleared up my skin; however, I still got a few pimples here and there. I’ve never managed to get my skin perfectly clear because I would still get about 4 pimples per week. The pimples weren’t drastic but it bothered me knowing that it was there. Perhaps that’s me being a bit OCD but I yearned for clear skin so badly. So I decided to try out Curology because it seems like so many people had such successful stories with that product. I was like, hey what’s the worse that it can do? Well now I’m filled with so much regret. Let me tell you my journey with Curology for the past 5 days.I received my Curology medicine on Friday. The prescription that was given to me was azelaic acid 4%, clindamycin 1% and niacinamide 4%. That night I cleansed my face and applied two pumps of the product and applied it to my skin. I also applied moisturizer then went to bed. Saturday morning I noticed some bumps and thought that oh I’m probably just purging from the product. Usually my skin does purge if I’m using a product that has an exfoliant so I thought nothing much of it. The medical provider that was teamed with me told me that purging will be normal and would last up to 1-6 weeks. She also told me that I would begin to see positive results between 3-8 weeks. Later that Saturday night I noticed more bumps and redness. My skin was getting worse so I thought maybe it has to get worse before it gets better. This was happening way too fast in the past 24 hours and I was getting concerned.Over that weekend I was keeping in contact with my medical provider. She assured me that it was normal and that I will be okay. I started to have doubts and gave her the benefit of the doubt because she was a “medical provider,” she’s actually an RN, I thought when you sign up with Curology you’re suppose to get signed with a dermatologist or doctor or whatever. I wasn’t going to give her crap for being an RN because I thought she knew what she was talking about. I placed my trust in her thinking that she had the knowledge in what she was doing. Sunday night came and my skin was the worse. I wanted to cry because I’ve never broken out this badly in my life ever. On every surface of my skin there was a bump, my skin was so red that I didn’t know what to do. I sucked it up and told myself its just skin; my skin will get over this phase and rejuvenate itself later on. I thought positive thoughts just so I can make myself feel okay. But the positive thoughts only lasted until my skin began to itch like crazy. This was the point where I thought maybe I’m having an allergic reaction. My skin is sensitive but that extremely sensitive. I’ve never had an allergic reaction to any skin care product before so I didn’t know what the symptoms will be or look like. I know I could’ve easily googled it, which I did and it just made me think of the worse scenarios, but I wanted to hear it from my RN to see if what I was going through was normal. Once again she insisted that I was purging, she could see that my skin was getting more bumpy and red.I know if you ever have doubts you should always go with your gut feeling. I wish I had sought medical attention when my skin was first freaking out. On Monday morning I addressed my concerns to my RN again and she finally said just stop taking Curology because she thinks I was having a severe allergic reaction to what she prescribed me. This was happening to me after applying the medicated topical Curology had given me for only two days. I already stopped using it before the medical provider told me to. My face was at its worst, I felt ugly…I just didn’t want to even go out in public. Lets just say that my face was ready for Halloween as some creature. All day on Monday I took some Benadryl and prayed that it would get better. At this point I’ve already stopped applying make up since Saturday and cut out all harsh cleansers so I didn’t irritate my skin even more. I tried to sleep that Monday night but it was so hard because I was getting really itchy. My allergic reaction was getting more severe than I thought it would be.On Tuesday morning I had the nerve to actually go to the hospital. I knew I needed something for my itch and for my inflammation to go down. I hesitated on going because I was scared and embarrassed. I know you guys probably will think that I was stupid and should’ve sought help earlier but because of my insecurity I just couldn’t. I went in because I was dying from my itch that was slowly spreading all over my body. How did a topical that was meant for my face cause an all over body reaction?! Even the emergency doctor didn’t understand. Thank goodness I got some steroids and pepcid because it finally cleared up the hives all over my body and decrease the bumps and redness on my face. I had to miss a few days from school because of this. I can only learn from this experience and I hope no one has to go through what I went through. So the moral of the story is always patch test a new product! It didn’t cross my mind to patch test the medicated topical Curology sent me because I didn’t think I was allergic to anything.Overall, Curology has a good staff…they’re not all that bad because they do respond back to you with some good advice. Some of the advice wasn’t too pleasing to hear though. When the RN told me to stop using Curology she had the nerve to tell me, “A little bit of a silver lining here: if you had enough of a reaction, you may peel more in a few days—you can think of it as an inexpensive light chemical peel!” was she serious? Because at that point when she told me that I wanted to scream at her. I know she was just trying to make the incident lighter but that wasn’t something I wanted to hear. She even told me to apply hydrocortisone ointment to my face to help with the itchiness; that’s a really bad idea because that’s too strong for your face…it might calm down the itchiness but its way to harsh for the face. Would I recommend Curology to everyone? Nope, its not suited for everyone. I know it worked out for a handful of people but just be careful with what you put on your face. I decided to stop my subscription with Curology because I didn’t want to play around to see what might help. My medical provider told me she can find a different formula that would be suitable for my skin, no thanks but I rather not.At least I know better now…I’ve even came to the conclusion that my acne before I started Curology was okay. My skin before Curology was fine, even though it took me forever to find a skincare regime that worked for my skin but I shouldn’t have been so insecure. A few tiny pimples here and there are okay but because of my insecurities it made it worse. I shouldn’t have tried to fix something where it wasn’t broken to begin with.

[Review] Lush Rosy Cheeks
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Lush Rosy Cheeks, $12.95 for 2.1 oz available in Lush Stores. When I wrote a review of my favorite cleanser, Lush’s Ultrabland there was some call for more reviews of Lush products, particularly the fresh face masks. Although that was six months ago, I did not forget. /u/buttermilk_biscuit, this one's for you.The Premise: The Fresh Face Masks are one of Lush's principal gimmicks. They are clay masks with added fruits, vegetables, nut-butters and essential oils that are made fresh without preservatives and thus are only sold in-store. They are kept in a refrigerator in the store and you are encouraged to do the same at home until they expire 2 -3 weeks later. There are now eleven masks in the range that promise benefits for all skin types. The Product: I am unabashedly one of those people - a Rose Scent Lover. If it can be had in rose scent, I will buy it in pursuit of a rose-scented routine would make a botanist weep for the wasted petals. For that reason, I strayed from my ol' favorite Fresh Face Mask (BB seaweed) to spring for Rosy Cheeks, a 2015 addition to the Fresh Face Mask line up. It is a bit of a spring: the Fresh Face Mask is meant to be a relatively inexpensive, occasional treat buy for me. Most of the range is $7.95 for 2.1 oz, but Rosy Cheeks costs five dollars more for the same amount of product. It's not a lot of money, but I'm rarely able to finish a whole Fresh Face Mask as it is before I get uncomfortable with how far past the expiration date I've let the pot linger the butter bin of my refrigerator and have to throw out the remainder. Moreover, intellectually $10 dollars for me is a definite threshold for willingness to spend and expectations.Speaking of expectations, if you're familiar with a Fresh Face Mask you know that they don't feel like a QHMJM because not all of the mix-ins blend thoroughly, which gives the masks a homemade, occasionally lumpy texture. Not so with Rosy Cheeks. This mask is thicker and smoother than any Lush Mask I've tried before. This is no surprise - the main ingredients are calamine powder, glycerin and kaolin. There's nothing in there to impart a lumpiness. From Lush one might expect pieces of rose petals to up the skincaretainement value, but Rosy Cheeks feels and smears like a classic mud mask.It is, however, much more assertively rosy than any mud mask I've seen before. Much, much more assertively. As an avowed Rose Scent Lover, I actually find it somewhat unpleasant. For one thing it isn't the sweet rose scent I enjoy so much; it's a stinkier, dirtier rose scent also used in Lush's Rose Jam Bubbleroon. It's a fine smell as far as it goes, but sniffing the pot in store is a qualitatively different olfactory experience than slathering the product all around your nose-place at your house. It’s overwhelming.Whether the smell faded or I acclimated to it the nasal assault did stop after the mask had been on my face for a bit. I didn't get as much wear out of this mask as I do other Lush masks - it dried up harder and faster than other Fresh Face Masks I enjoy. On washing it off I was very disappointed with Rosy Cheeks, because it gave me a Rosy Face.I have normal, blessedly resilient skin - not especially oily or dry, very occasional spots, generally resilient and healthy. Rosy Cheeks, which pledges to deep cleanse as well as soothe and calm left me red faced. Significantly more red-faced than one would expect from the circulatory stimulation of a generic mud mask. What's more, in spite of the glycerin, Rosy Cheeks leaves my face feeling tight, while my ol' favorite Fresh Face Masks cleanse without stripping. Although this is something I wouldn't ordinarily rate, I find myself wondering if Paula isn't right about added fragrance being an irritant, at least in so far as the "the dose makes the poison" as my nose detected a mighty dose in this product. As you may have guessed, I will not be rebuying Rosy Cheeks. It's clearly not for me. What's more, I don't feel comfortable suggesting it might be appropriate for a person with n-skintype, because again: this product made my normally non-reactive, resilient face red, tight, and uncomfortable. It may be that one ingredient is my own personal, heretofore undiscovered Achilles’ heel of irritation, but I am very skeptical and would advise potential buyers to tread lightly at a minimum, and preferably to save the five dollars and buy a Fresh Face Mask that imparts more benefit and skincaretainement with less irritation and lower cost. Conclusion: Expensive, boring texture, smelly, uncomfortable. Rosy Cheeks is a turd of a face mask.

[Acne] Will Salicylic acid be as good as Benzoyl peroxide for my type of acne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a 33 year old male. I never had acne as a teenager, but around 23 I started getting acne. I started using a face wash with Benzoyl peroxide in it. Recently my skin has become sensitive to it and I develop deep rooted cystic pimples which can last weeks and be severely painful, even if I use it once. I always moisturize but this still doesn't help.I stopped using anything with BP in it and my face feels a lot better, even parts that I didn't know were uncomfortable felt refreshed. I haven't gotten any cystic pimples, but now I get some form of acne again. I never get the stereotypical pimples, just inflamed areas on the surface of my skin that I can't feel on my face and don't hurt. I can see them and feel them with my fingers and the whole area turns whiter and if I squeeze it (I know I shouldn't) stuff comes out and they go away. They're like small mosquito bites.I've tried several different pore cleansing products and different face washes, but these keep appearing. My question is, will Salicylic acid take care of these as well as Benzoyl peroxide did? And do you think I will have similar problems with it?I bought a moisturizer with Salicylic acid in it and I'm not sure if I should use it in lieu of my current one all over my face, or just apply it to where I get these inflamed areas, because I read it can cause dryness (even though it's a moisturizer). As far as my skin type goes, I think It's combination. My forehead gets oily and the areas around my nose get pretty dry if I don't use a moisturizer.
