[Acne] Is tretinoin really more effective than adapalene?

After using adapalene for 1.5 years, my derm prescribed me tretinoin to continue to combat my acne. But I've read that adapalene is just as strong as tret but less drying. I'm wondering if anyone can share their experience about whether this is true?
