This post is not meant to disparage this sub and the amazing work that goes on here, but after spending so long on here and not seeing any results, I felt compelled to share my story.I had tried countless products, routines and treatments to no avail, and I was getting exhausted from spending so much time, effort and money and not seeing any improvement. I was also getting frustrated because I had read so many success stories and I didn't understand why my skin wasn't producing similar results. I finally decided to go and see a dermatologist because I wanted an expert to tell me exactly what was wrong with my skin and how I could fix it, and it is easily the best decision I have ever made in regards to my skincare.The dermatologist told me how I had incorrectly self-diagnosed my skin type and consequently, a lot of the products I was using was making my skin congested and preventing it from naturally moisturising or hydrating itself because it had become dependent on the heaps of products I had used. She also emphasised how the skin is an organ and diagnosis/treatment should be done with the same level of rigour and validity as other organs; you would never self-diagnose an issue with your heart or lungs, so why should you do the same for your skin? The last major lesson I learned was the disparity between the skincare and beauty/cosmetic industry, and how a lot of the products in the latter will not do much to help your skin because they aren't legally allowed to do much below a surface level.The routine and products she prescribed me has made the world of difference already, and the information she bequeathed me with has changed the way I perceive skincare holistically.
