Thought my skin was actually doing really well until I put on foundation for the first time in months. It looked atrocious and I can’t figure out why. [SKIN CONCERNS]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! So as the title says, I haven’t worn makeup for probably 3.5 months now. I got really excited to experiment with some stuff because my skin has finally been looking and feeling pretty good (that was taken on probably my best skin day so far, here’s my most current pic taken today.) which is really exciting for me. It feels plump, smooth, my rosacea hasn’t been flaring as often and my texture has never been better.So...I thought makeup would just glide right on, but suddenly, foundation looks 10x worse than it ever has and I can’t figure out why. Even my tried and true foundation that I’ve worn countless times before looks atrocious on. It’s splitting up, textured, patchy, and not even covering in certain areas. It visually looks a little dry but still has the “dewiness” of the foundation overtop at the same time. This also isn’t necessarily an issue of old foundation bottles because I recently bought a new one. No dirty tools because I’m using a new sponge, also tried applying with a clean brush.I’ve tried applying a thinner layer, I’ve tried different moisturizers, I’ve tried waiting different amounts of time to let moisture soak in before applying the makeup. I’ve tried exfoliating and washing my face less to see if something I’m doing is drying it out or if I’m over-exfoliating. I’m just really confused as to why my skin outwardly appears texture-less but makeup products do not sit well over top.I’m chalking it up to peeling skin from retinol, which I have been using since the beginning of April, but it’s strange because my skin doesn’t appear peely or dry to the touch or just visually; it only looks this way when a product is applied. Is it possible it is dehydrated? If this is just simply the affects from retinol, can someone suggest any products or routines to help this heal? I felt that I had been adequately moisturizing but I just might not be doing enough to combat the peeling.I also only buy cruelty free products, so please only cruelty free brand suggestions if you have any. Thank you!
