[Misc] How do zits and pimples go away on their own and why shouldn't I pop pimples?

I understand that opening pore and having puss on the skin is bad, but I don't understand how do pimples or zits go away without being popped. There were instances where zit would go away, but I don't understand how does that happen. Is it combined with cellular turnover? Is there data about that?
