[ACNE] I know everyone says not to pop, but what is supposed to be the process for acne if you don't?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've dealt with waves of acne for years. I use to have long periods of time where I had clear skin and then months where I would get some spots. It was never relatively extreme or annoying for me. Lately, for the past couple of months, I can't seem to shake acne. It is EXTREMELY frustrating because I have about 4-7 spots on my face. As soon as one clears, another literally appears right after. I don't know what's going on... Right now I am just sticking to the cleanser, exfoliation, BP, moisturizer route.ANYWAYS, back to the question I had. What is supposed to happen when you DON'T lance a zit? Is it suppose to pop on it's own or just go away? There have been times where I tried to wait out acne and it seems to never work. If the spot is pretty small, then at times it will work and other time I will follow my routine and it will get tiny and kind of just "pick" itself. For the most part when I DON'T pop it, it's a long period of time before the bump goes away but then I'm left with a extremely dark spot that takes longer to go away compared to when I lance it.Edit: Damaged pores were mentioned in the comment. Through the prolonged battle with my acne, I probably did a lot of damage to my skin when I lanced my white heads. I took the hygienic precautions but I was probably way too rough when pushing out the whiteheads. So I imagine I have a lot of damaged skin/pores. In my situation, should I just stick to my routine and stop picking at my skin or is there a suggestion for repairing damaged skin?
