Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! I took a sick day from work and am laying in bed with finally enough time to type this all out, so I will do my best to be thorough and informative.Skin type: Acne prone, redness, somewhat sensitive, change of season definitely affects my skin--skin around my nose and mouth gets dry and nose gets flakey in the winter. Mildly oily in the t-zone. Enlarged pores on nose and chin.*Skin care products I use: * Organic cold pressed sunflower oil Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Paula's Choice Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask Homemade Vitamin C toner (distilled water and pure absorbic acid)AM: I splash with water or cleanse with the Cerave cleanser and moisturize with the Paula BHA lotion. I haven't been using a sunscreen since my Elta MD physical seemed to be irritating my skin and I have been searching for a new foundation and sunscreen combination.PM: I usually I double cleanse using the OCM and one of the above cleansers, sometimes a mix of both, and then I follow with the Paula toner, vitamin C toner and BHA moisturizer. If I use the mask it is after cleansing and before toning and moisturizing. Admittedly, I have probably been using the mask too often during the week lately because it is the only thing that seems to give me immediate reduction to my acne inflammation.Typing all this out, I think I may be overworking my poor skin and causing more irritation and inflammation. My skin seems to go through cycles of being quite clear to more inflamed--dealing with redness and break outs around my chin, mouth, and neck. The area of the break outs seems to indicate possible hormonal issues. I had been taking DIM supplements regularly (as well as a multi, vitamin D, calcium/magnesium/zinc, and ashwagandha) to try to process excess estrogen in case that was an issue (PCOS/hormonal issues also runs in my family) , but I'm starting to think it might be excess androgens that is the problem? I just recently got better health insurance, so I'm doing some research to see where I can get my hormones tested and looking into dermatologists in my area/considering pocketderm.Makeup: I've been trying to be fairly minimalist and natural in my face foundation. I was using Elta MD physical (which is tinted) with concealer and Everyday Minerals over top, but over the course of the summer this seemed to be irritating my face and the powder seemed to be clogging my pores, so I started experimenting with products I already had from the past. I ended up using MUFE hd foundation again with Urban Decay Naked loose powder, but I ran out of the MUFE liquid foundation and they recently reformulated. So I got a sample of the new formulation, which I loved until it ran out, and then bought some drugstore Rimmel 25 hour comfort serum foundation to tide me over until I could afford a whole bottle of the new MUFE foundation. I have actually really liked the Rimmel foundation, but I think it may be clogging my pores too, dang it.It's difficult for me to list how long I have been using all of the above products...I'm pretty bad with time perception! but I would say I've been using the supplements for the last several years or so and the skincare products and makeup have become regular in the past couple months.Diet-wise, I haven't eaten chicken or red meat since I was a kid and was pescetarian for many years before deciding to go vegan a couple years back. During that time there didn't seem to be a discernible difference in my skin, so I don't think that diary is having a huge effect on my skin. I have recently added small amounts back into my diet. I attempted a vegetarian keto diet at one point and thought that the decrease in insulin spikes might help my skin, but I didn't feel very healthy and went back to a more plant based diet. I avoid processed sugars and processed foods in general. They are the exception rather than the usual of what I eat.I've done just about everything I can think of doing, and maybe the problem is I'm doing too much or making changes too quickly and not giving my skin time to settle in to a routine. I know the body is a complex system and it is extremely difficult to try to draw simple linear cause and effect relationships between all of these things...There might even be something affecting all this that I'm not even thinking about! But I'm putting all this out there hoping that someone will be able to offer some sound perspective and advice. Thanks so much for reading this wall of text, and please let me know if there is any other information or photos that might be helpful!
