Beauty Tips For Body Care
My atrophic (and hypertrophic) acne scars are really bringing me down. Especially since I've gotten rid of most of my acne and hyperpigmentation I thought my skin would be nice after - but I was wrong. So from research and a dermatologist consultation it seems like doctors will not use ablative lasers, peels, etc. on me. The doctor said he will only perform fraxel restore a non ablative laser that is gentle so it's perfect for all skin colors (oh I forgot to mention I have brown skin). But you won't get as great results as more intense procedures that can work more deeply. My plan is to get this laser done once a month. He recommended 5 to 10 times, but closer to 10 since my scars are so deep. But still the before and after photos he showed me has me worried. Like I can see a difference in their skin, but their scars were never as bad as mine. Anyway because of the fact that I can't get stronger treatments because of my skin color, I decided to add to products to my routine (both I have use before but stopped using as Ive changed my routine). I wanted to add an AHA Liquid exfoliator (glycolic acid to be exact) and a vitamin c serum. Because they both have research that says they help stimulate collagen, I thought having them in my routine can help the laser work better (this laser has no downtime according to the doctor but I still probably will take a break from actives 3 days before and after the procedure) and in turn give me better results. I know that using a daily glycolic acid isn't as effective as using the actual peels (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11095203) but maybe in conjunction with vitamin c and the monthly fraxel restore treatment I can actually significantly improve my acne scars. My idea is to use the glycolic acid every third day at night. so 2 days in between each use (and eventually move up to every 2nd day). I'm not sure how often I should use the vitamin c. Every time I've ever used an l-aa I always used it every single night sometimes night and morning if I had time to wait. But I'm wondering about your suggestions of how often I should incorporate it for a routine targeted on improving the appearance of acne scars (although I have some new hyperpigmentation from picking I'd also like to get rid of as well).
