Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been on Curology for 2 weeks, and I've seen a lot of improvement! I had a lot of CC's (all over my face and some of it could have been fungal) and, at its worst, I would have some cystic acne. I had symptoms of dehydrated skin too. Some of the CC's have gone away, hyperpigmentation is almost completely gone. I still have more pimples that are taking their time. I'll probably start some actives in a couple weeks for those. My current routine is:AM: Cerave hydrating cleanser (I have combo/oily skin, but the foaming cleanser was too stripping) Clinique DDMGPM: Garnier micellar water (only if I had makeup on) Cerave hydrating cleanser Curology (.25% zinc pyrithione, 1% clindamycin, 4% niacinamide)I do still get new pimples sometimes, so I'm considering trying a new moisturizer. But I also would like to introduce sunscreen. I was using Garnier skin active bb cream with spf 20, but after wearing it all day, I noticed a few new CC's. I'd love to find a bb cream that has spf. But if not, what's a good sunscreen and light makeup that would be good? I have bare minerals blemish ready powder foundation but I haven't tried it since my face has cleared up some. Any recommendations?

[Skin Concerns] Best facial cleanser for dealing with stubborn sebaceous filaments while on tretinoin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
It seems like I'm running out of options on how to deal with the sfs I have on my nose which petrude out of my skin and look like strings. At the moment I'm using cerave hydrating cleanser which doesn't seem to have any effect on them. Before I've used cetaphil gentle cleanser (same results as cerave hydrating) and cerave foaming (too drying). I've also tried ocm with a couple different oils but there wasn't a decent amount of improvement and the oil would cause clogged pores. If anyone has any recommendations I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

[Acne] Some data on the responses from the successful non-Rx acne treatment thread
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I went through and tallied every response in this thread for my own obsessive researching. I'm no statistician, but I thought you might all appreciate it as well. The top comment by /u/Lisbethhh was to forget about finding a miracle product and I think this has to be true based on the replies. I recorded anything that received 5 or more mentions, and here is the top 10:Cutting out sugar (I have to say that overwhelming this had the most responses - a big gap between this and everything else; the rest were more gradually decreasing).Hygiene (included mentions of changing pillow cases/towels, cleaning makeup brushes regularly, and washing quickly after working out)BHA (PC brand most mentioned)Increasing water intakeUsing a gentle, simple routine (included mentions of cutting back on harsh chemicals, generally being more gentle with skin, and simplifying routine to the basics)Benzoyl peroxide (Acne.org brand most mentioned)Managing stressNo touching, No pickingEliminating dairyExercising regularlySo keep in mind everything on this list had 5 or more mentions. I feel like this is probably what most people don't want to hear, but I found it interesting that the majority are lifestyle and diet changes, with sugar being the biggest trigger. Obviously SCA and that specific thread don't account for a real study, but the numbers are somewhat enlightening nonetheless. Hope someone finds it helpful! :) I'd love to hear your thoughts. It's definitely encouraged me to make some changes and with the new year, perhaps right now is the perfect time to make lifestyle resolutions.

[Product Question] How do you guys feel about LED lighted mirrors?

My sister got me one for Christmas but I can see every pore in my skin and my PIH looks "worse" now making me feel worse about my skin. It also makes my skin look even redder than any other mirror/lighting arrangement I have. I hear that LED lighting is "as close" to natural light as one can get. How do you guys feel about it?

[Hair Removal] Laser / Electrolysis on Male Beard / Forearms
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all,I am a straight male who is considering getting laser / electrolysis on my beard and forearms. My motivation to do it is that I although I have light olive (caucasian) skin, my beard hair comes in thick, black, and dense and my forerarm hair is black and coarse. I do not really like having so much hair on my face and forearms but not opposed to having it if it came in lighter. When I shave, I tend to be okay w/ razor burn but my skin has a 5 o'clock shadow that I do not particularly care for. Right now, I do not shave my forearms.Ideally, I would like to be able to grow scruff/beard if I want but not sure if I can "have my cake and eat it too" - perhaps I can with proper treatment. Instead of complete removal, I'd like to just have much less hair so perhaps thin it out so I don't have the shadow.I am interested in hearing from other males who have either done electrolysis or laser on their forearms and/or beard to hear about their experience. Did you have success with your treatment? Any recommendations or things you learned from the process? Before and after photos are also helpful if you care to share via DM.Thanks

[Personal] How can i tell when my skin is no longer dehydrated?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have super oily skin, and based on what I've read here, I feel it's safe to say my skin is dehydrated. My face gets tight and red sometimes, turns red around my nose and mouth when I talk or smile. But I'm also overproducing oil on my face, to the point where I could probably use blotting sheets every hour. Seriously. So, if it turns out I also have generally oily skin, not just due to dehydration, how can I tell when the oiliness is caused by that specifically, and how do I tell when my skin is moisturized and healthy again?

[ACNE] What causes acne in the middle of your cheek?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this sub. However, I've been battling with persistent skin issues for several years now. I'm a 21 year old guy and I think I have an oily skin type. During my late teens I was plagued with nodular acne (the sore hard ones without a head right?) around my chin. These subsided a year or so ago only to be replaced with regular whiteheads along my jawline. I did some research and attributed these to whey protein shakes. I've replaced them with a vegan alternative and the problem cleared up within a fortnight. Now, I'm getting these spots/blemishes right in the middle of my cheeks. I have no idea what causes them. I have to admit, over the past week or two my consumption of suger and alcohol has been a lot higher then normal (50 weeks out of the year I'm a health nut) so could this be the cause of the issue? My skincare routine pales in comparison to some of the ones I've seen on here. I use a L'Oréal Men's rejuvinate wash thing in the morning and a Clean and Clear deep cleanse at night. I'm also conscious of the fact that my face (forehead in particular ) gets very greasy and so I regularly dab my face down with paper towels during the day. Thanks!

Hey everyone. I'm not sure if the title accurately captures what I'm trying to ask. I know hydration is key, but I'm curious to hear about what people are eating or drinking (other than water), or avoiding, to benefit their overall skincare routine.Mine are:Switching from black tea to green tea for the antioxidant benefits. [Routine Help] How do people find the right balance of moisture and cleansing?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have stubborn acne, especially on my jaw line, but I also don't want to neglect moisturizing my skin and end up with wrinkles or dry skin that has acne. My skin type is most likely oily combination. I get dryness near the nose but also clogged pores on the nose. I have also been getting milia under my eyes, which I think might be from moisturizing. I don't want to stop moisturizing and end up with wrinkles but I am tired of pimples and clogged pores. I have a lot of skin redness also.My current routine:Cleanser (1-2 times per day): Currently Egg Mousse Soap from too cool for school, but my normal cleanser is Checks and Balances from OriginsMakeup Remover (only used on days where I wear makeup): MakeUp-BeakUp Cool Cleansing Oil from BosciaExfoliant (roughly once per week): Exfoliating peel gel from BosciaMasks (about once per week): My favourite is the clear improvement black charcoal mask from Origins but I have also experimented with the Luminizing black mask from Boscia. On occasion I use a hydrating mask (e.g. a sheet mask)Serum (should be used every day but I sometimes forget): Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum from First Aid BeautyEye cream (1-2 times per day): Have experimented with a few, currently using Lancome youth activating eye creamFace moisturizer (1-2 times per day): Ultra repair lotion from First Aid Beauty but I recently tried a sample of Sunday Riley Brightening Enzyme Water Cream which might be causing the milia?Medication: I have tried topical and oral antibiotics in the past. They either did nothing, made my skin worse, or had intolerable side effects. I have not used prescription medication to treat acne in a long time and I am not taking any medication that could aggravate skin issues.I am looking for advice on treating acne without drying my skin and being able to moisture without causing clogged pores. Also general advice about my routine would be helpful. Thank you!

I have not used prescription medication to treat acne in a long time and I am not taking any medication that could aggravate skin issues.I am looking for advice on treating acne without drying my skin and being able to moisture without causing clogged pores. Also general advice about my routine would be helpful. Thank you!

[Product Question] Sephora Black Magic Cloth. WTF is this sorcery?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey SCA!I was gifted one of these for Christmas. It claims to be able to remove all makeup with only water. Naturally I was pretty skeptical about the claims but I tried it out anyway.I wet the cloth and washed my face. It seemed to get all my makeup off, even eyeliner and mascara. But I figured that my skin only looked clean but there was probably still makeup left on my face.So I took a cotton pad and some miscellar water to remove whatever the cloth had left behind. Aside from some black fuzz from the cloth, the cotton was clean. So it seems as though this thing actually does a good job job of removing makeup. So, my question for you SCA is; how the hell is this happening? And can I really trust this? It definitely seems way too good to be true, so what am I missing here? Has anyone else tried these?

[Personal] So I have a severe tree nut allergy... and I used Cetaphil moisturizing lotion
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just wanted to share my experience here -I have used Cetaphil lotion on my face for about a week now, and yesterday I was reading the ingredients on the bottle and I noticed that it has integrifolia seed oil (macadamia nut oil). I was a bit shocked, since I hadn't gotten any reactions or breakouts, not even an eczema flare. After checking on allergy forums, plenty of people have been getting rashes on their face from the lotion, as well as the opposite. I'm no allergy specialist, but everybody reacts differently to certain things, and luckily I didn't have any problems even with a Grade 4 allergyI hope this is a reminder to everyone to patch test and check ingredients carefully with new products, as I was being a shithead and risked my health

[Product Question] Boyfriend addicted to St. Ives scrub - desperately seeking alternatives
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My boyfriend LOVES his St. Ives apricot scrub - and while I'm glad he's taken a proactive approach to skincare - he just won't give it up til I find him an alternative that won't tear up his skin. He will only use a physical exfoliant because he prefers to exfoliate in the shower and likes the feeling. He liked the scrub for dry patches and nose blackheads so something that also targets those would be preferred.Looking for something from the drugstore or comparably priced on AmazonSOS - SAVE OUR SKIN

[Product Question] Which one of the Vitamin C products from The Ordinary do you like most?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
From what I've been reading on this forum most of us have chosen for the 23% Vitamin C Suspension from The Ordinary. But I'm really curious why you've chosen for this Vitamin C product and what your opinion is on the other vitamin C products.Personally I've chosen for the 20% Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, because it's one of the most stable Vitamin C derivatives, it's oil soluble (so penetrates best), it doesn't string or irritate your skin, and it's compatible with all the other products (the suspension is incompatible with Niacinamide according Deciem). But so far I'm a bit unsure if the serum I have chosen could cause breakouts, because it's an oil and contains coconut alkanes. Of course the advantage of the 23% vitamin c suspension is the price and the potency. The list of Vitamin C products from Deciem:Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate 20% in Vitamin FNIOD Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 30%Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%Hylamide Booster C25

[Sun Care] Ugh. Might have to change my HG sunscreen after reading these studies. Any suggestions?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Newbie here needing some advice. My HG sunscreen is SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion SPF 50. I had to kiss a lot of sunscreen frogs to find my sunscreen prince, so I’m reluctant to change it.Buuut I read this Consumer Reports sunscreen article that ranked it just “fair” for UVA protection. (I know there’s been some debate on SCA about CR’s testing methods because they put subjects in a dunk tank before testing the UVB coverage, but from what I can tell, they did the UVA testing without exposure to water, so those results are closer to everyday use.) Dermatology Resident Elyse Love (of ITG fame) also backed away from physical sunscreens and cites CR and other studies as the reason. If I’m going through the hassle of putting on sunscreen everyday, “fair” won’t cut it.So I’m on my sunscreen quest AGAIN. MEGA UGH. My criteria is to find a sunscreen with a gold-star chemical UVA blocker (maybe Mexoryl or Tinosorb) that’s lightweight but low alcohol or alcohol-free and not full of fragrances n stuff. Is this a total unicorn?

[Anti-Aging] Preventative Botox....anyone get it?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don't have any permanent facial wrinkles yet. I'm in my early thirties and I've noticed horizontal wrinkles on my forehead that appear while I'm applying makeup (obviously from the faces I make while doing my face makeup lol).I've read that preventative Botox is a thing and the earlier you start with injectables, the better and less likely you are to have permanent wrinkles.Does anyone in SCA get Botox? What age did you start or did you start after you already had wrinkles?

[Humor] So I tried an activated charcoal mask...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've heard enough positive things about activated charcoal to spark some curiosity. Some of my favorite discoveries have come from goofing off, so why not give it a go?There are plenty of recipes online, and I mixed up an approximation of one using some chamomile tea, honey, and enough activated charcoal powder to make a paste. Maybe I threw in a pinch of bentonite. So, I get this stuff all mixed up in a teacup and smear it all over my face. So far so good. But, when I went to wash it off my fingers... out wouldn't rinse off.Panic.Cue racing thoughts of my life being over. I'd have to enter witness protection, or maybe I could sign up to be a face transplant guinea pig. My fingers were stained so dark, I just knew that this was the first day of the rest of my life. Hello, reality TV stardom. If 16 And Pregnant is a thing, surely I Made a Stupid Mask and Now It Won't Come Off could be a smash success. As anyone would, I paused just long enough to take a panicked selfie before blitzing into the shower.Spoiler alert: a little lather and gentle scrubbing was all it took to wash it off. And now I have the most ridiculous selfie of my life and a DIY disaster story.Hopefully some of you can have a giggle at my expense.

[Routine Help] Very oily, shiny skin plus acne and large pores/blackheads
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm 26 and have struggled with my skin for over a decade. I used to be on minocycline which cleared everything up, but it destroyed my stomach so I had to stop using it. Now I'm using Curology, which worked for a while but doesn't seem to be doing much anymore (the formula is 4% azelaic acid, 1% clindamycin, and 4% niacinamide). I live in a very dry place, and my skin gets extremely dry but also very oily--in every picture my skin is like a spotlight. (I always put on moisturizer and sunscreen as needed.) I'm very gentle on my skin because it's so sensitive, so I only wash with a mild Neutrogena sensitive skin wash and baking soda mixed with water as an exfoliant. There's a lot I don't like about my skin, but the main problems I'd like to start working on are my acne and the aggressive shininess. I don't like to wear makeup besides BB cream in emergencies. Any tips are much appreciated, I'm getting really frustrated!http://imgur.com/a/FpGcf

[Routine help] Ordered The Ordinary Vitamin C and Azelaic Acid, thoughts and how to incorporate them properly?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! So I just picked up some of The Ordinary line, the Vitamin C Suspension 23% and Azelaic Acid to deal with some stubborn PIH & PIE.I have dry/acne prone skin, the acne is pretty much under control with the use of Adapalene .3% and Aczone. I've been using both prescriptions regularly for ~6 weeks and my skin has adjusted well. However, I have a lot of red marks leftover which I'm looking to treat. My current routine: Wash with Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating CleanserAczoneCerave AMPM:Garnier Micellar WaterWash with Neutrogena Ultra Hydrating Cleanser (wait ~15 min)Adapalene buffered with Cerave lotionHow do I best incorporate the new products to minimize irritation? Is it safe to use the azelaic acid and retinoid in the same night, or should I alternate them? Thanks!

[Routine help] Sunscreen instead of moisturizer?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have quite oily skin. Trying to use more sunscreen, however in the mornings I find that when I put moisturizer and then sunscreen, or vice versa, my skin looks so greasy. Today I tried just using sunscreen without moisturizer, and my skin didn't look greasy/overly oily, it looked just fine! So my question is would it be bad to just use sunscreen in the morning and no moisturizer? (Moisturizing at night of course!)

Thanks guys! When my 12-year-old started puberty she also started to get acne. I didn't want her to freak out about it, but on her father's side the girls get really bad acne so I wanted to start a skin care routine with her, (she also has my fair, almost translucent skin so everything scars!)So I took your product suggestions and helped her make a fun routine, reminding her that us fair skinned gals have to be diligent.Gentle cleaning at night, Paula's choice in the AM and PM, moisturizer in the evening and SUNSCREEN!We've been slowly building over five months and her acne cleared up and she has perfect skin.Today she said, "I'm so lucky I don't get acne like my friends!"I reminded her that her awesome skin care probably has a lot to do with and she loves her routine even more now!(As a side note, my 40 year old skin hasn't looked this great in years either with the exception of a few areas!)

Critical I have one week to try to heal some bad and new acne scars/dark spots. I'll do or try anything! [acne][skinconcerns]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! So I'm new to skin care really, I've been using my cerave for years but recently I've been having worse and worse skin on my body. Two weeks ago I used a face mask from shea moisture. I had extra in the packet I didn't want to throw away so i used it on my stomach to try and help some scarring I had. Horrible idea. I woke up covered in painful cystic acne on my stomach. I'm not sure if I was allergic or the benzonite clay in the mask made me break out. But each little spot was very deep and an abscess I guess. They all drained and now they are dark spots and scars. The problem is I auditioned for a bikini girl role before this happened and I just got a call that I got the part. But how can I wear a bikini like this? Please I will try anything to help the spots. I've been using neosporin and Argan oil, but I'll go get a laser treatment or a peel or literally anything to try and make it even 50% better so I can cover the rest with makeup. Any price below 500$. I live in Los Angeles so if you know somewhere I can go here or Ventura county where I'm from. Ive never had a facial or anything like that. That would be awesome too...I have pictures of the breakout and I can take more now if anyone is curious but it is NSFL Thank you !!Edit: I took a picture of it just now to help: pic

That would be awesome too...I have pictures of the breakout and I can take more now if anyone is curious but it is NSFL Thank you !!Edit: I took a picture of it just now to help: pic

[Product Question] Is Drunk Elephant Lala Moisturizer worth it?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Full disclosure: I love Drunk Elephant. I love the products, the marketing, the packaging, the philosophy. But I don't love the price tag. The only product I use regularly is C-Firma serum, and I've found what are (for me) good enough dupes for the Marula oil and Glycolic serum. But the Lala moisturizer is so bouncy and creamy...my skin loves it. (I've been sampling it from Sephora.) So I guess my question is...are there any good dupes out there? I want this moisturizer bad, but I don't know if my wallet can handle it!

[Acne] Have you found a shampoo that doesn't break you out?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I tried searching around but didn't see any threads about this. I know people have had success with head and shoulders but I see that it contains a lot of bad stuff like Sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. Has anyone found a shampoo that doesn't break them out? I breakout on my chest a little but mostly on my back and I'm wondering if my shampoo has anything to do with it. Thank you for any information!

[Acne]: What happens if I stop Curology?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm an international student studying in the US. Unfortunately, I will graduate in 4-5 months. This unfortunately means being forced to stop Curology. I had moderate acne and now my skin is amazing. I still do break out in tiny non-cystic acne every now and then. Will my skin go back to what it was before using Curology?I suppose I could try getting my dermatologist back in my country to try and mimic my Curology prescription (4% azelaic acid, 1% clindamycin and 4% Niacinamide) but I'm not sure how this will work. Comments will be much welcome!

[Product question] Nuxe Reve de Miel vs. Dr. Lipp vs. Bite Agave Lip Mask vs. Glossier Balmdotcom
Beauty Tips For Body Care
[Cross-posted this in Makeup Addiction. Really hoping to find some recommendations] My go-to overnight lip balm has been Nuxe Reve de Miel, but I cannot deal with the grittiness anymore. I know it's the honey crystallizing but that doesn't make me feel any better about it. My first pot was just a bit gritty and seemed to get less so as I went through it but the second one was way gritty all the way through so I'm done. However, I loved the way it felt (sans grit) and how it stayed on my lips all night (even in dry weather in an overheated apartment). Using Dr. Lipp now but it doesn't have the same staying power. Was thinking I'd try either the Bite Agave Lip or the Glossier balmdotcom next. Anyone have good/bad experiences with those or others (particularly as a heavy-duty overnight balm)?

[Acne] Micellar water changed my life
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been dealing with bad skin ever since I hit puberty but my entire life I've had sensitive skin.My worst breakout was when I went away to college and the tap water had me breaking out all over my back, chest, and face. To this day, the only tap water that doesn't irritate my skin is the water in my hometown. (Which oddly enough was contaminated by chemical waste in the 90s and caused a leukemia cluster, but that's besides the point).Once I realized my campus tap water was causing breakouts, I started to use medicated cleansing wipes prescribed by my dermatologist to clean my face and rinsed it with bottled water. This was the most tedious and expensive skincare routine I've ever had and it only sort of fixed the breakouts on my face, and certainly not the rest of my body.Fast forward to my first job post-grad. I was discussing skincare routines with a colleague and she told me about micellar water. IT CHANGED MY LIFE!If you haven't tried it, it's a makeup remover, skin cleanser, & moisturizer all in one! It looks and feels like water but has oil molecules suspended in it that traps oil and dirt from your skin.Just soak a cotton pad with the micellar water and wipe it over your face. That's it. That is your skincare routine.I use "simple" brand which is less than $10 at my local pharmacy. You can get high end brands at a much higher cost but it's really the same thing.Has anyone else used micellar water? What's your experience been?

[Routine Help] Weekly AHA/BHA for Sensitive Skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone,A week ago, I started using the PC 5% AHA (daily at night) after years of simply not exfoliating because physical exfoliators leave my skin rough & irritated. I am loving the results! & I'm going to add in the BHA (PC 2%; daily in the morning) later this week. But I'm wondering: Is it the same thing to only do a weekly (PC 10% AHA and 4% BHA)? Can sensitive skin take those higher percentages? My skin typically responds best to minimal products and I am wary of adding in daily AHA and BHA (especially because of the stinging). But I know I need some sort of exfoliation as my skin has been clogged with lots of texture issues & large pores, and I'm starting to see fine lines. I want to both fix the texture/pore-issues and make sure my routine is effectively anti-aging.Current routine AM: OCM, Thayer's rose toner, Olay Sensitive Skin Moisturizer with SPF 15 (or CeraVe night moisturizer if I'm staying inside as SPF leaves a white cast [I'm Black] & clogs my skin) PM: OCM, Thayer's rose toner, PC 5% AHA (for one week now), CeraVe night moisturizer Occasionally Used: natural masks like bentonite clay or activated charcoal or honey. (Korean sheet masks leave my skin clogged & irritated but glowing, so I succumb sometimes). Some more Background (in case it's useful): - My skin is combination/reacts to its environment (oily in the summer & dry in the winter). - I'm 28 so I'm basically starting AHA/BHA for anti-aging and protecting my skin for the future - I live in New York CityThanks for all your help!

[Misc] Recently I learned something about dark under-eye circles that may interest others!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had bad dark under-eye circles for the longest time, and have never found any topical creams to be of much help. I need to use eye cream due to dry skin around my eyes and even after almost ten years of using eye creams I have never noticed any that make a difference to the dark circles. FWIW, I drink more than 2 litres of water every day and get 7-9 hours of sleep every night (research life, no judge me pls).anyway, I've recently seen an immunologist due to my allergies (hayfever and animals) getting absolutely ridiculous and he told me that my dark circles could be/likely are a product of these allergies. Whether or not it's a primary symptom or a secondary thing from years of rubbing my eyes like an absolute madman wasn't clear, but I thought it might interest some others on here! I'm starting the injections in a month, so it will be interesting to see if anything changes re: circles, but I don't hold out much hope. This information has kind of helped me accept it a bit though (and a recent investment in a good peach corrector!)edit: nice syntax in the title, me.

[personal] A relative made comments on my skin.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Holiday craze is always filled with great, wonderful, family-induced problems. Luckily, this year wasn't insane, except today. I guess I just need to rant.I went to visit a relative I'd seen over the holidays, and she said "my husband and I noticed you're breaking out" and proceeded to tell me about her own skin struggles, make recommendations, etc.And it really, really hurt.I'm already saddled with anxiety and a plethora of other problems. My stresses over my skin and my body have kept me from going to class, submitting videos online for homework, or just going outside, quite a lot.Me, being polite, I just nodded, and expressed sympathies for her own struggles. But honestly I just wanted to cry. When I left, I got in my car and had myself a long, ugly cry.I felt as if no matter how much makeup I wore, how sparkly my personality was, the outfits I put together, or how successful I've been in my challenging degree, the only memorable thing about me was my awful, adult acne. I've been trying, for years, working on figuring out what to do about it.I'm crushed. I'm supposed to be going out for New Years, and some other nights, with all my clear-skinned friends. I've had a lot of anxiety about that, but I've been giving myself pep talks, and convincing myself no one notices.Obviously, people notice. Everyone does. I just want to hide in a hole forever.I'm sad, I'm hurt, and I wish I didn't care.Anyway. Preaching to the choir.

[Routine Help] Help finding a moisturizer that won't break me out
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello /r/skincareaddiction I need some moisturizer help. I have skin that breaks out EXTREMELY easily. So I'm having a lot of trouble finding a moisturizer that works for me. I've used Nivea Creme (broke me out) Cerave in the tub (broke me out) Sebamed clear face care gel (not moisturizing enough) and now Eucerin healing. Eucerin is still breaking me out but less than the others. I tried just using sunflower seed oil and mineral oil in my routine but with the winter that's not moisturizing enough. Any help I could get would be appreciated. Thanks!

Whenever he's over he uses my cleanser (as opposed to the normal bar of Irish Spring) and the other day he says, "I really like this stuff, I think I need to buy some. When I wash my face with it I don't feel my face which, in hindsight, I realize is probably what's supposed to happen." I just thought that was adorable and hopefully someone else gets a chuckle out of it like I did. Baby steps.

[Product Question] Miss Spa Masks
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm relatively new to skin care, and I just went to Target to pick up a cleanser and moisturizer. I picked up three Miss Spa masks - hydrate, exfoliate, and charcoal clarifying. I can give the ingredient list in the comments if anyone wants to know.I looked in the sidebar for any information about masks and couldn't find any, so I wanted to ask here what experiences people had with masks in general, or this brand of masks, or if masks actually work at all.

Confused about current routine and no idea what next? [Routine Help]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Have posted in the ask anything thread a few times but have got some mixed opinions and no real help so thought it would be ok if I made a individual post.AM: Cleanse with Garnier micellar water, Moisturise with Cerave tub & SPF 50 Garnier Solaire suncream. PM: Cleanse micellar, BHA stridex red box, moisturise cerave tubBasically i've been using this routine for a while and had some good results didn't get many spots for a while, and my active acne seemed to die down and start fading/brownspots.Just flew out to my parents house in Austria from christmas and have broken out again. I'm not sure if it is bad timing on my skin getting really dry after BHA from stridex or change in environment. This is my skin before I broke out again, as you can see have some PIH (i think?). http://imgur.com/a/O7rPE Should I continue with this routine when I get back from Austria as it seems to be working? What should I add if not the same routine? This is after coming to hometown and my current skin condition: http://imgur.com/a/1FjLYAlso, will the PIH fade by itself or will I need to add some AHA? I tried paula's choice AHA and it made me breakout so have not tried others.Located in the UK but can get most things on iherb so any recommendations are fine.

[product question] differin is OTC now?!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Was walking thru Target yesterday and they were putting out a display of new skin care on an end cap. Among the products was this display of DIFFERIN. Yes the RX retinoid... which is apparently not RX anymore.I snapped a photo to show my mom who also uses it and ended up grabbing her a tube.https://imgur.com/a/cQoff

[Acne] Seasonal bacne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Does anyone else experience bacne only seasonally? During the warmer months, I'm pretty lazy about wearing a clean shirt to bed, washing after shampoo, cleaning sheets, etc. and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I have clear skin on my back and chest during those months (not my face; blessed with acne on my cheeks and jawline all year round). Once the weather starts to turn cold, I start getting sporadic deep cysts on my back and smaller more surface level bumps on my chest. I'm religious about sunscreen during the summer so I'm not sure it's the sun. Does anyone else deal with this? Any idea what it is? What helped? Thanks in advance.

[Product Question] Has anyone tried "Osea" Malibu skincare?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have sensitive/combined skin (oily t zone and dry cheeks) almost every product I've tried from different brands leave a burning sensation and redness which is annoying. I found that Osea has a sensitive/redness skincare line and I purchased but now I'm Wondering if anyone has tried it and has any feedback?

[Skin Concerns] Non-Itchy Red Rash on Scalp/Neck - at wit's end.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I've had this rash on the back of my scalp for over a year now. It's not really itchy, tender or dry. It feels like fairly normal skin (smooth), though the area can get sensitive at times. My current skincare & shaving routine:Wash with La Roche Toleriane Cleanser (Face + Scalp)Shave my head with Tabac or Valobra Shaving Soap using a Merkur 37c Slant Razor and Astra Blades.Apply BHA Liquid 2% to Face + Scalp + NeckAfter around 20 minutes I apply La Roche Toleriane Fluid Moisturizer to Face + Scalp + Neck.I should add, that I also take 5mg accutane / day to help with excessive sebum production and a mild acne. Very successfully, I might add. My dermatologist is pretty awesome, though he can't really pinpoint what that rash is (as the symptoms are almost non existant) - atm we are trying topical Ketoconazole in form of a shampoo (on day 3 now) to see if it could be some sort of Tinea Versicolor. So now that my sebum production and my mild acne is fairly controlled - I want to get rid of this (mostly cosmetic) rash aswell. Oh yeah, I switch my pillowcase every night (has become a habit).Yet, I still wanted to ask around here, as I know that there are a ton of knowledgable users here who might shed some light onto the issue that I then can take to my derm. What I (we) also tried specifically for that areaSelsun Blue Shampoo & Ciclopiroxolamin Shampoos.Topical ClindamycinNot wet-shaving the head (just trimming) for several weeks - e.g. eliminating possible allergic reactions. Having said that, I've been shaving my head for several years with the same products and that rash only became really visible in the past 1-2 years.Current: Topical Ketoconazol (Shampoo) for 4-5 Minutes - 7 days straight, then once per week.So any other insights and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thank you, SCA.

[Routine Help] while on retin-a
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Backstory: I've been on Retin-a 0.025% for almost 2 years. My skin improved tremendously and was very clear. I would barely get any acne only a few breakouts every once in awhile. However, when school started this past August, I've been breaking out a lot. Obviously hormones and my new messed up sleep schedule during school (usually got 5-6 hours of sleep everyday) played a part in me breaking out a lot. I went to the dermatologist this past week and she just prescribed me doxycycline, as well as to keep using the retin-a and clindamycin phosphate. When I first started using Retin-a, all I used was the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser and the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion. But as of right now, for the past few months my routine was:AM -CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser -Be the Skin Botanical Pore toner -Be the Skin Boranical Pore Serum -Mizon All in One Snail Repair Cream (I know I should be applying sunscreen especially while using retin-a, I just could never find one that wouldn't make me look so greasy.)PM -CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser -Retin-a -Clindamycin PhosphateI feel my current routine in the morning doesn't help at all. I'm in search for a new toner, moisturizer and sunscreen that is good on sensitive skin and doesn't clog my pores. My skin is currently very dry especially on my cheeks and around my mouth but later on during the day, my t-zone would get so oily. So I'm looking for a moisturizer that really would hydrate my skin and a sunscreen that doesn't leave a white cast or make me look greasy.I wish I knew about Reddit before I started Retin-a because I'm pretty clueless when it comes to skincare routines.Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Toners and Moisturizers burning my face! Help! [Skin Concerns][Routine Help]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone,I am at my wit's end! Hopefully someone could point me in the right direction with where to go with my skin routine. Some background info: I'm female, 26 years old, and currently have combination skin, however my skin usually is very, VERY oily. I suffered from cystic type hormonal acne from ages 9 to about 16-17, which gradually faded as I got older. Strangely, most people claim they cannot tell that I had severe acne. When I did have it, I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of it - proactive, acne specific facial treatments, every over the counter item under the sun. My skin was so sensitive that almost everything hurt to use, but the facials stopped hurting after 2-3 visits and I kept going because it seemed to at least maintain my skin.My skin still to this day is incredibly sensitive. I'm prone to blackheads, and will get a pimple here and there. However, my skin gets DARK marks for weeks after even the smallest people. I have discoloration around my nose, sometimes on the upper lip and chin, and at times on my forehead. For months, I have tried to find products that work for skin. I recently had a depressive episode, and thus wasn't taking care of my skin. Now that I am trying to take care of it, it seems skin has gotten worse!Cleansers, toners and moisturizer leave me with a burning sensation and redness, particularly in the area surrounding my nose coming down to the sides of my mouth. I have tried neutrogena, clean and clear, all the drug store crap, and even face washes from Lush. For toners and moisturizers, the same.I'm currently using Neutrogena's new ultra gentle foaming cleanser, as it seems not to bother my skin as much - but I only use the smallest amount possible. For toning, I'm using Caudalie Paris moisturizing toner. For moisturizing, I don't even know what to do. Recently this has been the worst with the obnoxious back and forth we've had with the weather. I've used OleHenriksen vitamin plus, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer, the clean and clears and neutrogena crap, even tried Nivea men's sensitive post shave balm because I heard it was super moisturizing. I've also resorted to putting just argan oil or vitamin E oil on my face, as well as Eucerin or Aquaphor. The last few don't burn as much, but they aren't repairing my skin.Has anyone else experienced this before? Any products you guys recommend?

[Skin Concerns] Heat Rash? How to deal with it?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have always had issues with heat rash when going out in the sun for 2 or more days. At times it has been so bad where it is up both feet and up both arms. I am 21 now and last time I explained my symptoms to my doctor he said its probably a reaction with the sunscreen just use a different brand and limit sun expositure while wearing sunscreen to 30 minutes every 2 hours. I am now on vacation, listenting to his advice. My rash hasnt broadened to the point where it has in the past but it is as itchy as ever. I have attached screen shots. Please note that my hands are NOT sunburnt. Whenever I have my hands down at my sides for 30 seconds or run somewhere for a while my hands will get tomato red for a bit (and if poked with a finger while super red the poked area just turns white anyways) for pictures of my hands after I held my hands normally look towards the end. Is this actually heat rash? Why is it only happening to me out of my family of 5, it makes things miserable. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thankshttp://imgur.com/a/LL3dZ / http://imgur.com/a/Bs0bg

[Skin concerns] It is normal for the face to always flake/have dandruff?

[Routine Help] "Your complexion looks fantastic," my extended family told me today. My journey so far.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Originally had moderate acne, overall slight pink tone, flakes and oil. I had tried different washes, antibiotics, etc, but that only irritated it.Upon SCA's suggestion, I tried several products, but the ones that worked for me are my current minimalist routine:AM:Shower, allowing shampoo runoff to touch face.Elta MD Clear Sunscreen SPF 46PM:Paula's Choice 2% BHA gel. About once a week in the winter, every other day in the summer. When I run out of this one, I may switch to 1% BHA lotion, but I haven't decided if it's worth the risk of switching. No washing at night. No moisturizer. Use a St Ives makeup removal wet wipe only if I'm wearing very heavy makeup or if it's bothering my eyes.My next project will be to reduce my hormonal back acne. Maybe that spare bottle of Paula's Choice AHA 8% will be used on this.

[Anti-Aging] At what age should we start using Eye Cream?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! I just turned 20 and I thought I would re-evaluate my skincare routine. I changed from some random moisturiser to the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel because I have oily skin and I was thinking of getting the Kiehls Avocado Eye Treatment? I do have a bit or blue/purple circles under the eyes but nothing major. My step mother told me that it is too early to start wearing eye cream though. What are your thoughts?

[B&A] Best Christmas present I could ask for is clearing up my skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Like many people I only dealt with mild skin blemishes throughout highschool and university, just the average amount of pimples. Until august 2016 (age 23 btw), when I broke out into awful hormal acne almost overnight. I tried things like expensive cleansers (whoops), microderms, masks, better (more hypoallergenic) makeup. Nothing seemed to help. Eventually felt so down and so defeated, I booked an appointment to a dermatologist, assuming they'd push acutane (which I was really against.. but felt it was my last hope).Turns out my dermatologist was as against acutane as I was (only for when all other methods had been exhausted)! And he recommended spironolactone (25mg for 2 weeks, 50mg for 4 weeks, and now 100mg) combined with tactopump (adapalene and benzoyl peroxide). The first photo row was taken on Oct 17th 2016, while in the derm's office. The bottom row was just now (Dec 26 2016).My current routine: - Morning: Splash cold water on face, apply ceravePM moisturiser. Or if feeling gross cleanse with cerave hydrating cleanser. Apply make up (mostly tarte products, and light foundation with SPF) - Noon: take 100mg tablet of spironolactone - Evening: use baby oil to remove makeup. Cleanse with cerave hydrating cleanser, sometimes use Murad refreshing cleanser. Use nivea toner when feeling extra oily. Pat on body shops overnight serum in oil , top on tactopump (pea size) from my temples to chin, and take a break from that if my face is getting to sensitive, but I'm up to 6/7 days a week (started at every other day). End with cerave PM.I feel so much more comfortable in my skin, and my makeup sits on my face so much nicer. It's crazy how much clear(er) skin can bring up your spirit. I'm still fighting the red marks thanks to my picking and poking, it'll be a while til those are healed, but clearing out active acne was my first battle won!Merry Christmas :)

[Routine Help] Oily forehead, unclean face
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey SCA! I have some problems with my skin I really hope to get some good advice on how to handle.First some pictures: imgur pictures As you can see I have a REALLY oily forehead (pictures taken after a typical day). I shower in the morning and wash my face 2-3 times a day, always only using water. I read through the complete sidebar and didn't really find anything which might help me. Wearing less clothes helps a bit as I'm not getting as hot. The rest of my face needs some moisturizer, especially the area around my mouth, which I use a oil-free creme by Neutrogena for. I shave every day with a dry razor to not make the overall picture worse with slight stubbles. After seeing a doctor, I took Isotret (similar to acutane I think) twice for about 2-3 months each when I was younger to get rid of my acne which really helped, but is no permanent solution obviously.Any advice on how to take better care of my skin? I would really love to get rid of the slight acne, get a better overall skin, and reduce the oily situation on my forehead. Any advice appreciated :)

[Acne] 2017 new skin goal
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, 2017 is coming and I'll try this year to get rid of acne an clean my skin. I'm 27, traveling a lot for work and never really tried to do anything with my skin (never really settle for long enough to see a dermatologist..). I have mild acne on my face and severe on my back (getting worse when I am travelling in Asia). My skin is usually quite oily with lots of black spots.I am not sure where to start, I looked on acne.org but I am currently in Europe (for now France, soon in the UK) so it's not really convenient.Ideally, I'm looking for a morning + evening routine, there is so much products available not sure what to get... My skin is in your hands!

[ACNE] F20 used to have normal skin but is now acne prone?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! I'm 20 years old now (June 1996) and I'm from the Philippines (tropical climate). I am oily in my T-zone and normal in everywhere else so I guess I'm combination skin type?I'll give you the most detailed background of my skin as I can. Hehe.15/16 until 18 years old: I think this is the age I started seeing a Dermatologist. My routine here as far as I can remember is Am: Ponds pink cleanser and then toner and sunblock (Hamilton) from my dermatologist Pm: same cleanser and smoothening cream from dermatologist Skin: My skin gets one or two pimples now and then but nothing that bad. However my nose has lots of sebaceous filaments :( I apply benzoyl peroxide on some acne if it's really big Diet: I drank milk every day. Eating nuts didn't particularly break me out. Makeup: Maybelline bb cream, benefit/maybelline concealer. I use some mac powder sometimes and other western products. I don't pick or touch on my face.19 years old (December): I stopped seeing my dermatologist maybe starting around May or June for almost a year because she got pregnant and was sensitive to stress. Skin: My skin started getting bad around December, the week approaching our finals week and I literally got a pimple every day. Diet: It was also the time that I bought a carton of skimmed milk. It is also the time that I ate peanuts for snacks when I didn't have any. Makeup: sameI switched my dermatologist to a more expensive one :( because I badly needed to already and because my face literally got a pimple (most headless) a day and she gets rid of my pimples easily and I regained my confidence. My originaly derma already gave birth but I think I'm sticking to the new derma because I prefer her techniques.20 years old (now): But ever since that time I started breaking out, my face has become sensitive :( I get pimples even when I'm not wearing any makeup. I want to be able to go out without any makeup and no bumps or be blemish-free but Idk why my face won't clear up anymore. (It's clear only for 6-7 days since my facial appointment with my new derma) Am: all from derma - clear soap, clindamycin phosphate, sunblock (hamilton), lightening cream for dark spots Pm: all from derma - acne soap, clindamycin phosphate, adapalene differin Skin: gets two/three pimples a month, rarely blemish free Diet: I don't drink milk, rarely eat cheese, don't eat nuts Makeup: rarely put on makeup, if I do, I put on clinique acne concealer the one with the salicylic if Im correct, but it doesn't do coverage muchQuestion: Is it possible that my acne stage that should happen in my teen years is happening now? How long should I wait to throw concealers? What products can I buy that are friendly to oily skin and that are available in the Philippines/asia? Is maybelline bad for combination/oily skin? Any suggestions?

[Skin Concerns] Sweaty forehead - overwashed?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I think I've made a huge mistake.I always like a clean fresh face, so over time, I've been washing my face more over time.I noticed, that my forehead was getting sweatier faster over time, while I'm washing my face about 5-7 times per day now. It just dawned on me, that I probably made it worse. This is my forehead after a few hours without physical work and without being too warm. It's quite sweaty. Compared to this, in the morning, it's barely there though. http://i.imgur.com/5Zo0nSo.jpgAny tips to reduce the sweat?Do I just have to keep washing less like 2 times a day?

[Acne] M 21 Need something new for body acne
Beauty Tips For Body Care
http://imgur.com/a/XtbKFHello SCA. I'm a 21 year old male whose had acne on my chest, back, and shoulders in varying degrees of severity since I was 14. 5 months ago I started taking accutane that I bought online from an indian pharmacy after two dermatologists turned me down because they wanted monthly bloodwork and I couldn't do that because I left for a military deployment in November. I know that this was not the smartest option but as anyone whose had acne as severe as mine knows you just get depressed and desperate about it.In the past I've tried courses of antibiotics and topical medications to no avail. My usual routine would consist of washing whole body with head and shoulders for the 1% zinc and then using a 10% benzoyl peroxide wash and rubbing it in for two minutes before washing it off. I experimented with the dosage for the accutane and with my weight I worked up to 90mg/day. Im due to reach my TCD of 150mg/kg February 1st but as you can see from the pictures my acne is nowhere near close to gone. I know the accutane I have is not fake because my small amount of facial acne is completely clear and I get the dry lips and sometimes angular cheilitis if im not vigilant with moisturizing.I just want any opinions on what I can do from here.

[Misc] Going to get a facial for the first time for my birthday but no clue what to ask for!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA! My mother wants to bring me to a spa of my choice for my birthday for a facial. I've never been to a spa before let alone had a facial. I have no clue what to ask for. Like many here I have so many skin-concerns that I don't even know where to start (pore size, texture, dehydration, redness, acne, the whole lot.).I've always wanted to get a facial so I'd REALLY appreciate any suggestions or advice . I'll also include a photo of my skin

[ACNE] Some things that are helping me treat/prevent acne
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey guys. This forum has helped me quite a bit in dealing with my previously dry/dull skin and recently acne-prone combo skin. I want to give back with some things that are working for me. As obvious as these might be, I hope they help at least one another person.Backstory:Until last year, my skin was a bit dry and dull, but otherwise fine. I didn't have a skincare routine aside from moisturizing and wearing sunscreen. Stress + hormones (I'm in my mid 20s) + bad diet + skin becoming oily = breakouts everywhere. I never had acne-prone skin until now. I kept breaking out, and couldn't figure out why it was happening because nothing seemed to trigger it and I didn't make any changes in my life at that time. Then I realized that my ways were just catching up with me, and some people break out in their mid 20s because of hormones. My Routine:AMCerave Hydrating CleanserBenton Snail Bee EssenceCaudalie Vinosource Sorbet (it's light and hypoallergenic, but pricey so I'll be replacing it when it's done)Ole Henriksen Total Truth Eye Cream (a staple for me)La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 SPF Sunscreen (a staple for me)PMSweet almond oil to remove eye make up (a staple and the best makeup remover I've ever had)Banila Clean it ZeroCerave Hydrating CleanserActives (I alternate between La Roche Posay Derm AHA, Paula's Choice BHA, Neostrata Vitamin C, with off days)Caudalie Vinosource SorbetLaneige water sleeping mask twice a weekAlso...I spot treat with BiacnaI take Omega 3 capsules every dayWhat has helped:Sticking to a routineWaiting 30 mins after applying actives before applying moisturizer. Holy moly has this helped. I only found out about this (through this forum!) recently. I thought Paula's Choice BHA was overhyped and that my Derm AHA wasn't working anymore because I applied moisturizer after it dried without giving it time to do its job.Sleeping on my back to prevent breakouts and my lotions and potions from rubbing offCutting out dairy. I figured my crappy diet was exacerbating my skin's condition, so I decided to cut things out one by one so I could figure out what was doing it. I chose dairy 5 days ago, and I'm already seeing an improvement. The other things I was considering cutting out were sugar and caffeine.Other than these changes, I've been trying to keep things low-stress and get enough sleep. It can be due to one or a few of them, or it can be all, but this is what is working for me. I have a couple of blemishes that are on their way out, and then I'm going to start dealing with the scarring/texture.

[Skin Concerns] Vitamin C serum alternatives??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
hello all. I've recently kept my acne on the low for a few months now but my hyperpigmentation and scarring is killing me. I have no idea how to get rid of the redness and even out my skin tone. I'm light brown skinned and have mostly red and dark brown spots around my face. I tried using Vitamin C serum for about a month and it made me break out with blackheads which i never usually get and that was weird. i bought one of the high rated ones from amazon. is there anything else i can use to lighten up my skin? I've used kojic acid/lemons/ACV. none of that really works.

[Acne] Experiences with scalp acne and possible solutions
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My face has improved significantly as a result of this sub. Cutting out sugar from my diet (or as much as I can) and sticking to a routine has limited breakouts and made them manageable. However, I have begun experiencing bumps that pop up on my scalp under my hair. I wash my hair twice a day and make sure to scrub my scalp thoroughly. It is pretty much impossible to apply any type of lotion or acne treatment on these spots so I'm wondering if anyone here has had luck dealing with these types of bumps. They are much larger than normal acne and typically lie under the skin with no visible white head. I appreciate any input.

It is pretty much impossible to apply any type of lotion or acne treatment on these spots so I'm wondering if anyone here has had luck dealing with these types of bumps. They are much larger than normal acne and typically lie under the skin with no visible white head. I appreciate any input.

[Product Question] Should I be using Glysolid if I'm trying to avoid SLS?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello ScA! I have had perpetually dry lips ever since I remember. Since I was a kid, I've been using Glysolid (a cream with glycerin) every single night to solve this problem. The Glysolid would make my lips soft, which would mean I could remove the dryness with a damp towel every morning. If I forgot to use Glysolid even for one night, my lips would be incredibly dry and chapped the next day.Recently, after lurking around ScA, I found that it's possible my lips aren't reacting well to SLS. So I've started using Sensodyne Pronamel instead of my regular toothpaste. I'm also avoiding any soap or face wash that has SLS.However, I'm not sure if I should discontinue Glysolid. It doesn't contain SLS but it does contain sodium cetearyl sulfate. I'm not a chemist, but it sounds far too close to SLS for my comfort.I have ordered Lanolin from Amazon as a substitute for Glysolid, but it'll probably be delivered after Christmas. In the meanwhile, it would help if you guys think I can use Glysolid, because I really really hate Vaseline, but at the same time, I don't want to break the avoid-SLS thing I've got going on.

[Product Question] Is Alpha Hydrox 12% AHA worth a shot?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I use their 10% but while I like it, it's not effective enough on my Closed Comedones. Has anyone had much luck with it on their CC's?

[Acne] Curology Concerns
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I started Curology just under two weeks ago with the prescription of 8% Azelaic Acid, 1% Clindamycin, and .25% Zinc Pyrithione. My skin seems to be breaking out more than ever and I'm wondering if this is part of the "worse before its better" stage or if I'm having an adverse reaction to the prescription. I'm newer to SCA and would really appreciate any insight/advice, thanks!Routine: AM: Cerave foaming facial cleanser followed by Cerave AM moisturing facial lotion PM: Cerave foaming facial cleanser, wait 10 minutes, Curology.https://imgur.com/a/4kCl3

[Product Question] Low pH body washes?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello, I tried searching this before I posted but to no avail.Do you have any recommendations for a low pH body wash? I'd prefer if it lathers or foams up. I currently use Cerave foaming facial cleanser, but if there's any other products like this one, I'd like to know.Price range is preferably drugstore. Located in the States so availability shouldn't be a problem.Thank you in advance! :)

[Acne] 24F Finally Seeing a Difference With Cystic, Hormonal Acne (Routine)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! I’m writing this post because for the first time in ~3 years I feel like I’ve found a long-term solution to my cystic acne, and I really want to contribute to this subreddit since it has really helped me out over the past few months :). Thanks everyone!A little background about me: I started getting cystic acne on my cheeks and jawline (minus my chin) about 3 years ago when I entered my senior year of college. Before that I had minor acne, but nothing like the hormonal mess it eventually became. I have oily, fair (ghost-like) skin, and I am a germophobe, so I’m always careful to never touch my face during the day, etc. though I do have a huge picking problem. Sometimes I feel like I'm just being dramatic, but I think acne can be pretty debilitating. I have turned down numerous fun opportunities (especially overnight trips) because I don't want to have to take my makeup off and don't want my skin to be exposed to a new environment which tends to cause me to break out. That's also not counting the experiences I did do but didn't fully enjoy because I was worried about my skin. Pretty stupid and equally shitty.About a year and a half ago, my face magically healed because of birth control pills. It was amazing. I didn’t even need to wash my face--I just wouldn't ever break out. Unfortunately, I all but forgot how shitty it feels to have acne, so I stopped taking the birth control pills thinking maybe I just grew out of the acne and I could continue on in life medication-free. Wrong! In about 4 months, my cystic/hormonal acne came back worse than ever, and I decided to take a new approach since I didn't feel taking birth control pills was a very sustainable method of controlling my acne. It wasn't how I wanted to be in control of my acne, at least.Seeing my face for the first time in months and hearing me talk about how much it was affecting my personal life (I know, I’m dramatic), my mom sent me to a dermatologist in NYC. There, I was only seen by assistants, which seemed shady, and they gave me a bunch of overpriced, branded products to try. I was skeptical at first since I didn't need a prescription for those products (why was I paying them again?), but for the next two months, I religiously applied the products I bought during that visit. That was the end of October, and now two months later, I am so so so happy with the progress I've seen. I would post process pictures, but I didn't have the balls to take pictures of the before and honestly don't even want pictures taken now since I do look pretty scarred and still have a few problem spots. HOWEVER, I am not really getting any new pimples and my face is looking better every day.I'm not sure what's allowed by the mods, but here is exactly what they told me to do/use in combination with what I learned from reading this subreddit:Morning Routine:Wash face with a cleanser that you KNOW is gentle on your skin and will not cause you to break out. The other products are all the medication your face needs. I use CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. Also wash your face gently, like in this video!: https://youtu.be/HsqFXTgpTVkAfter drying your face, use a glycolic acid (5%) & salicylic acid (2%) pad. I bought the same one the dermatologist recommended off Amazon for 1/4 the price. Not sure if links are allowed, but if you're interested PM me! But the brand I got online is Glycolix.Wait a little bit (preferably 20 minutes, but I almost never do) and apply a retinol serum -- about a pea size amount. I once again found the same, non-branded product from the dermatologist online. It's available on Amazon as Topix Pharm Replenix Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum 5x, 1.0 Fluid Ounce.Wait a little bit longer (also preferably 20 minutes) for it to absorb into your face/upper neck. Then apply moisturizer generously. I use 4-5 squirts of CeraVe Moisturizing Facial Lotion PM, but you can also use CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM with SPF 30 and skip the next step.Apply sunblock. I use CeraVe SPF 50 Sunscreen Face Lotion.Night Routine:Repeat steps 1-4 from morning.Start out doing this 2x per week only and then increase the frequency once you can handle it without irritating your skin: Apply a pea size (or whatever you are comfortable with) amount of glycolic acid cream. This can also be found on Amazon as Topix Pharm Glycolix Elite Facial Cream, 20 Percent.VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: As with any retinol routine, it may take 6 weeks to see results. I personally did not experience this, but also prepare for your skin to initially look worse for the first 1-4 weeks. But I promise these products will be a miracle after that amount of time. There are also higher strength retinol serums available online, but wait at least 6 weeks before increasing the strength or applying more than a pea size amount. Those things can really dry out your skin which will make you break out more. Also shout out to this sub for making me a believer in moisturizers. I always thought applying moisturizer would just make me break out more since my skin is already naturally oily, but this is HUGE and my skin now looks 1000000000 times better (probably also because I started using CeraVe. Never going back!).
