Beauty Tips For Body Care
My faceSorry for my poor English English isn’t my first languageStory: I was 16 years old in the first photo I don’t know it was puberty or hormone My skin just became very bad suddenly I didn’t change my diet or what It just happenedI was extremely insecure about my skin and I didn’t even take any photo with my friends because of my insecurityI had tried the chinese medicine but it made my skin even worse so I stoped taking the chinese medicine and want to a dermotologist instead The doctor gave me doxycycline and I took it for over 6 months The pills did help my skin a lotBackground * 17 year-old boy * Oily skinAM 1. COSRX Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser 2. Cosrx aha/bha clarifying treatment toner 3. The Ordinary’s Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F 4. Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++PM 1. Oil cleansing (hemp oil mixed with castor oil) 2. COSRX Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser 3. The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution 4. The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid 2% Solution 5. The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 6. The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil 7. COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing LotionOccasionally * The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution (once /twice a week ) * Hydrating sheet mask (once a week )I think what helped me the most are the doxycycline and a good cleanser I had tried lots of cleansers that claimed they could get rid of acne and pimples Most of them did nothing to my skinCleansers I recommend1.COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser 2.COSRX Salicylic Acid Exfoliating CleanserCleansers I don’t recommend but did a great job on my skin 1.Rosette cleanser(the blue one) 2.Acne-Aid Liquid Cleanser These two cleansers would really make your skin feel dry and tight but they really helped me a lot to get rid of the pimples/acne I really don’t recommend anyone try these two cleansers unless you have no any choices left because the ingredient(SLS) will damage your skin barrier

[Review] Spf Lip balm reviews
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So, I have been on a quest for the perfect lip balm with spf and thought I’d post a review of all of the products I’ve tried :) My major goal was to find one that doesn’t taste like sunscreen. I don’t know if it’s partially from breathing in when talking or what, but the taste just transfers--and I cannot deal with that sunscreen taste. I’ve tried a few brands, and recently ordered a couple more, and thought it would be useful to share my notes! https://imgur.com/7feLqPNPacifica Sun + Lipcare Mineral Lip BalmPrice: $4-5 depending on where you purchaseApplication: twist-up tubeSPF: 30SPF type: mineralColor: sheer beige (name:Nude)Scent: I think it’s technically unscented but it smells a bit nutty and sweet (ingredients include shea, coconut, and sweet almond).Tastes like Sunscreen?: Not even a little bit!Moisturizing?: Not really. The chapstick itself is really dry and is not a smooth application. It might get easier in the summer when the weather is warmer though (needs to be warmed up to apply well). Either way, once it’s on it feels more like wearing lipstick than chapstick.Softlips Lip Protectant/SunscreenPrice: $3-4 depending on where you buy itApplication: twist-up tubeSPF: 20SPF type: chemicalColor: clearScent: vanillaTastes like Sunscreen?: Yes, a little. It’s not strong, but it is there. Someone less sensitive may not mind.Moisturizing?: YesBlistex Lip VibrancePrice: $ 2.44-4 depending on where you buy itApplication: twist-up tubeSPF: 15SPF type: chemicalColor: sheer red/shimmeryScent: some kind of cheap berry smell (not too strong though). Actually, it kind of smells like flinstone vitamins lol.Tastes like Sunscreen?: Nope! NothingMoisturizing?: Meh, not really. It applies smooth, but I felt like I needed to reapply every 15 minutes.Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip BalmPrice: $2.99Application: twist-up tubeSPF: 20Color: clear (name: 05 quenched)Scent: I don’t think it technically has a scent, but it does smell faintly sweet (almost fruity, but I can’t put my finger on it) and sunscreen-yTastes like Sunscreen?: YesMoisturizing?: Yes, but did feel like I needed somewhat more frequent application than some of the others.Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip BalmPrice: $7.50Application: squeeze tubeSPF: 25SPF type: chemicalColor: clearScent: mintTastes like Sunscreen?: No. At one point when wearing it I could get a tiny tiny tiny hint, but only because I was specifically looking for it (I was smacking my lips when testing it out lol), but the taste went away almost immediately and didn’t come back.Moisturizing?: Yes, and the mint gives a nice cooling effect.Supergoop! Fusion Lip BalmPrice: $9.50Application: squeeze tubeSPF: 30SPF Type: chemicalColor: clearScent: mintTastes like Sunscreen?: Unfortunately yes. I just bought this a couple days ago because someone recently posted about it and said it did not taste like sunscreen. The sunscreen taste is very light--but it is still there.Moisturizing?: Yes, same comment about the mint.Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Lip MoisturizerPrice: $2-4 depending on where you buy itApplication: twist-up tubeSPF: 15SPF Type: chemicalColor: clearScent: unscentedTastes like Sunscreen?: Nope!Moisturizing?: YesBonus (not pictured) I have previously tried these two, as well. I no longer have them, so couldn’t include them in the picture.Supergoop! Perk Up! Lip & Cheek TreatPrice: $22Application: lip potSPF: 40Color: sheer reddish color, can’t remember the name of the one I boughtScent: can’t rememberTastes like Sunscreen?: YesMoisturizing?: Don’t remember. I took it off immediately.Kiss My Face Sport Sunscreen Lip BalmPrice: $3-4 depending on where you buy itApplication: twist-up tubeSPF: 30Color: sheer if I remember correctlyScent: I can’t remember, but it has coconut oil in it so it might have smelled faintly like coconutTastes like Sunscreen?: YesMoisturizing?: Seemed like it, but I took it off immediately. What am I repurchasing?: Jack Black Lip Balm (higher end of the spf range, moisturizing, and no sunscreen taste)Additional notes: Though I made notes about how moisturizing the products were, none were as moisturizing as I would like. My lips get chapped very easily, so I may have to layer with my non-spf lip balm.*edit: grammar

[DIY] Homemade Rice Water Toner
Beauty Tips For Body Care
i have been asked several times how to make rice water toner in the past so i thought i should make a post to share with you all in case anyone was wondering how to make their own as well !step 1 figure out the brand you will use. i don't mean to be bias but asian brand rice is usually the best. when i tried american brand rice out or even BROWN RICE i found my skincare pilling on top.i use brands like nishiki premium grade rice and the asian best brand using their plain and sometimes even jasmine rice !step 2 about 1 and a half cups is enough. if you're already gonna eat rice even better. don't be afraid to make more than you need because rice is super cheap and you can repurpose the water as well.rinse the rice off thoroughly first.step 3 get a new clean bowl of water and place the rinsed rice into that bowl. this extra step instead of just placing more water in the cup with rice in it is to be as clean as possible just incase. i suggest people use bottled water for if not the rinsing part at least the new bowl of water. some people might have hard water and that can effect the potency of your toner.let rice sit in the bowl for ATLEAST 15-30 minutes. i find the longer i leave it the better but never more than an hour. during this process your toner will be filled up with vitamins, minerals, and other yumminess. its like natures arbutin.step 4 carefully strain your rice water into a clean bottle, jar, or bowl. i just leave it in a bowl that i can cover with a lid but if you can find a way to put it in a small bottle with a spritz or no contact thats the best. your water should look milky af.always refigerate this toner ! it feels the best when its cold !!! but there you go your own rice toner !if you made too much... you can repurpose it for your nails to soak or a nice hair treatment for your ends.couple things to note - this is easily fermentable and can go bad so please pay attention to your batch and processthe reason why i don't use fermented rice water is because a lot of people are irritated to ferments and plus i'm not qualified to make sure my batch can be free of bacteria or any other foreign ingredientsa good rice water toner made with ferments is the kikumasamune sake skin lotion. made by an actual sake brewing company who is qualifiedyour rice water will be its most potent 1 to 3 days and shouldn't be used any longer than thatyou can do this with oatmeal as well ! unflavored only. it works well for people with sensitive skin and can work on eczema which i have !well thank you for reading this post. i tried to include information that if you google about you wouldn't find on the articles.this toner is amazing for every day use. its so easy to make and cheap as hell. it hydrates my skin, it noticeably makes my pores look smaller, and it brightens my skin up! i don't claim to be an expert or anything. this is just a easy and cheap effective method of making a toner thats been done by people for centuries.update: PLEASE PATCH TEST this won't work for everyone !!!

[Personal] 55 year old face, my Skin Care Journey
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all! I really enjoy this community and after lurking for quite a while, thought I would share my skin care experience. My current routine: AM: splash with water Cereve AM with 30spf Make up, tinted moisturizer, mascaraPM: Cleanse with Cetaphil Vitamin C serum (from TJ Maxx) Cereve PMMy mom got me started on the Clinique 3 step system when I was 13. I was a lifeguard through my teen years and always used sunscreen. I am prone to eczema, and use petroleum jelly or Aquaphor as a protective barrier. In my experience, nothing can replace self-care! Take time to care for your self. Thanks for all I have learned

[Misc.] Biweekly No-Buy/Low-Buy Thread
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone! On my last no/low-buy thread, there was a lot of interest in making it into a regular thing, so here's another one! A few ideas for what we could talk about:What I'm Not Buying: Resisted an impulse buy? Decided against a purchase? Tell us about it!Talk Me Out Of: Feeling the urge to buy something you don't need? Let us talk you out of it!What's In My Stash: What do you already have lying around that you might be able to use in lieu of a new product? How could you meet a skincare need/want using something you already have?Reflection: How's your routine doing at the moment? How are you feeling about your no/low-buy trajectory right now? Has anything made it especially difficult or easy to stick to no/low-buy recently?Feel free to use topics other than these, or add some ideas to the list!I'm personally feeling like a reflection right now. I'm doing a pretty good job of shopping my skincare stash right now, and sticking to my low-buy plan. I've got a routine that's working for my skin, and am starting to slowly add in some stuff from my stash (specifically DE C-Firma) to address my PIE. However, with my skin doing better, I've gotten back into makeup, and that's making me want to buy everything. I wasn't great about sticking to low-buy at first, but r/muacjdiscussion has really been making me think about my makeup choices more carefully. I've decided that one of the thing's I want to do that will help me stay low-buy is to create my own eyeshadow palette using single shadows and a metallic pan. This way, rather than feeling like I need a new palette because I like 2 or 3 of the shades, I can select the shades I like, and none will go to waste. I'm really glad my low-buy approach to skincare has been easily transferrable to my makeup habits!

[Sun Care] [PSA] It's okay to go out in the sun guys!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I just wanted to post this because I've seen a few posts by people to the effect of "summer is coming up and I'm afraid of spending time in the sun because of this sub!" That kind of thinking is... not healthy. As much as we joke around here, the sun is not actually a deadly laser. As long as you take common-sense precautions, there's no reason to fear the sun. Letting anxiety about getting sun damage stop you from living your life and going outside is not healthy and it's not #selfcare! Get a good sunscreen, pop on a hat and some sunglasses, and live your damn life!

The sun needs to be eradicated. I for one have had it with that hot piece of bullshit. I have a plan. If we all buy water guns and squirt the sun at the same time we can turn it off. It's worth it to save our faces. If you don't have a water gun just turn to it and blow really hard. We do this Saturday at dawn. Who's with me?

[Acne] It's ok to have setbacks too. Sometimes it doesn't matter how diligent you are, you will break out again. I recently posted how much my skin had improved so I felt it was important to share the other Side of the coin.

[Personal] Brandon from Deciem strikes again!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Was being served in the Covent Garden store by a lovely man when Brandon grabbed him, started screaming at him and then made them close the store down so he can "shout" at them all. I told the staff in the shop that the behaviour was disgusting and atrocious, they all kept quiet and looked away like this happens often. I feel so sorry for those poor people.

[Personal] Yes, even with severe acne, that special date can go well.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA, I just wanted to share a little story that happened yesterday, I hope this will help you somehow. Expect a wall of text...About 6 months ago, I had an extremely stressful time, and broke out in cystic clumps of acne. As you'd expect, I felt incredibly ugly, and treating my acne became the sole focus of my life. In fact, I promised myself not to leave the house until my treatment is completed. This made me feel progressively more depressed. At one point, I could clearly notice that my face was clearing up (a bit)! I was obviously stoked by this...Until I started talking with a guy online. He just seemed extremely sweet and kind, and we had so much in common. I don't want to make this too personal but just so you can get an idea, he was exactly what I was looking for. And after 15 days of skype hangouts, we agreed to arrange an actual date.I was horrified at first. For a few days before the date, I constantly looked in the mirror. I still had a few cysts, whiteheads, redness, PIH, good old 3d acne...I was so afraid that I would ruin a promising date, disappoint him, turn him off. Especially because he has baby smooth skin (Admittedly, my thought process was nonsense.)In the morning of the date, I just completely gave up, I treated the big ass whitehead that popped overnight, put on my sunscreen, and beat my face with my shitty-but non comedogenic foundation. (This foundation only helps with redness and -some- PIH. All of my acne was still obvious.) And just went out to meet him.At first, I was so convinced that I'm ugly, that I registered everything he did as a sign of disinterest, and even disgust.BUT GUESS WHAT, we actually ended up spending half the day together, jumped from place to place, talking constantly. At one point, he told me that I look even more attractive in real life! Me? Without my photoshopped pictures, with my foundation melting off and revealing my children? Well, apparently! It's never healthy to seek validation solely from other people. But interally, when I consider the way things went yesterday, and how I imagined them to be, I realized that my feelings were mostly irrational.I have so many other beautiful features other than my skin. Maybe I dont have a chin, but I have big, round eyes, I may not have a pretty nose, but I have a neck that flatters my body. The list just goes on, for every single person. My acne is bordering on severe (Not my guess, its said by my doctor). And maybe yours is too. No matter how long it takes to find it, there is a treatment for you. It will go away, or simmer down. You will not have acne for the rest of your life. And even if you do right now, and even though it is painful, you are still beautiful. And people will still find you beautiful.Take a few steps back from the mirror, and see yourself as how other people see you. Do not examine every littlle spot on your face. Do not waste valuable time looking into mirrors, and do not waste your time on judgemental people. If they're judging your acne today, you have no idea what health condition they may judge you for tomorrow. If you read this, I hope this meant something to you. I know how it feels, I know its awful sometimes. But please be kind yourself. Hugs.

[acne] help with lip line pimples?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know they are for sure pimples and not cold sores or anything because they start from blackheads.I have a particularly stubborn mark from one large pimple I had in october that just will not fade. It is right in the middle of my top lip so it is super noticeable... ugh. A blackhead has reformed in its spot a few times and resets any progress that it makes. So I guess I am looking for something to help with stubborn red marks as well as preventative care.I don’t have acne anywhere else with the exception of some black heads on the sides of my nose, but they aren’t noticeable and I’m not too worried about them. The problem with these lip line pimples is that they are very tiny but very red and take a super long time to fade and are hard to cover up without making my lip look odd. I have tried changing lip balm brands but I don’t think that is the problem, especially because I don’t even use those products that often.any help will be appreciated because I really want to get rid of this mark!

[MISC][DIY] What are some FREE or CHEAP things you can do to better your skin right now?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Starting off in this sub, I was very overwhelmed and excited by all of the possibilities! However, I ended up wasting a lot of money and time, and compromised my skin's health because I didn't take my time exploring my options. It's been about a year since I started browsing this sub and I feel like I'm just now getting close to finally narrowing down a routine! So, for newbies and long time members alike, what are some things you can do to improve your skin's health that you could start TODAY, without necessarily having to purchase any new products? I'll go first:DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE WITH HOT WATER! Start washing your face with lukewarm to warm water. I LOVE super hot showers, but now, I don't get my face wet while showering except for when I wash my face, at which point I turn down the temperature. I'm used to doing this because I don't even get my hair wet in the shower most of the time, and I wear a headband and clip my hair up to keep hair out of my face.Lightly pat, don't rub, your face dry! I don't even really do this anymore as I like to put my moisturizer on a damp face. I just sort of squeegee the excess water off my face with my hand before putting my moisturizer on.Try your best to use clean towels on your face! I'm bad at this one, and technically it isn't free if you pay for laundry, but it's still a good habit to form.Use old t-shirts on your pillows every night if you don't feel like buying a ton of new pillowcases to switch out! This also isn't technically free if you pay for laundry, but it's a cheap alternative to feeling pressured to buy several nice silk pillowcases. What are some other cheap or free habits you have implemented to improve your skin's health?

[Review] COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin for Rosacea - thumbs down
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I finally gave in and tried cosrx advanced snail mucin this week after reading many reviews about it being soothing and great for rosacea. My skin is dry/dehydrated, sensitive, with flushing + pimple type rosacea. Rosacea is 85% controlled, and I was hoping the snail mucin would help reduce lingering pink/redness.Unfortunately, I cannot give it a glowing review. This product significantly exacerbated my redness. I typically am slightly pink on the apples of my cheek and normal everywhere else on my face. After using this product, I am RED in my cheeks, on my chin, nose and the space between my eyebrows. Further, I didn't find the product any more moisturizing than a hylauronic acid serum or a gel moisturizer. On the plus side, it did not cause any break outs and it did not cause any "burning" rosacea reactions. If you have rosacea and have read similar good reviews, I would proceed with caution and maybe buy a decant before making the plunge.

[EMPTY] [REVIEW] Sunday Riley CEO Serum
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I received the SR CEO serum in my January Allure beauty box. I patch tested the serum for about a week at the end of January, and once I saw that there was no reaction/new acne, I started applying to my whole face. The bottle lasted until the third week of April; I used ~1 pump a day, sometimes a little less.FeelThe serum felt pleasant on my skin. Since it has squalane in it, I didn't feel the need to add a facial oil after using it. It did take some time to soak in, and left a nice glow on my skin. It has a light citrus scent that I love. I never felt any burning or irritation.ResultsThis serum definitely helped fade red marks left from acne faster than they would fade on their own. As mentioned above, it gave a nice glow to my skin, but not too much to the point that I looked sweaty.IngredientsThis serum contains a Vitamin C derivative, so is probably good if you want to use a Vitamin C serum but are wary of trying ascorbic acid due to its acidity. This was my first experience with a Vitamin C serum, and I would say it was a great first time product for me to start using Vitamin C.PackagingPackaging was great. I love the pump as it can be clicked into an open or closed position, so good for traveling. The bottle allowed me to see how much was left so I could time a new purchase appropriately.Repurchase? At this time, I am not repurchasing as I would like to try a Vitamin C serum with more beneficial ingredients like Ferulic acid. I have started using the Skin Actives Scientific Vitamin C Serum in 15%. The pH of this serum is quite low, so I only use it a few times a week right now. The Drunk Elephant C-Firma is on its way to me, and I will use it on the days I do not use the Skin Actives serum. Another serum I am interested in trying is the Skin Actives Antioxidant serum. It has a Vitamin C derivative and a TON of antioxidants, and can be used daily. If I am not impressed with the DE C Firma, I will replace it with this.

[Hair Removal] Rosehip oil is my saviour!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am one of those unlucky girls who will forever be plagued with the horrors of sensitive skin. Shaving/epilator/waxing etc. down there would remove the forrest of hair, however, I'd instead end up with a forrest of ingrown hairs. So the aftermath of that isn't pretty and left me with some gnarly scars.I've just recently incorporated rosehip oil into my skincare routine and started to notice my acne scars fading. Then I thought that if it helped fade my acne scars maybe it could help fade other scars as well. So now I have been using rosehip oil around my bikini line and my scars have faded a lot and are less inflamed. I can't be happier to finally see my cooter getting some peace and quiet. So hopefully this may help one of my sensitive skin girls out there struggling with ingrown hairs!

[Product Question] Thoughts from people who have tried both TO's Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion and Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone,So I've been using TO's Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion for a while now, since about January. I really like what it's done for my acne and overall skin texture, but it didn't clear up a lot of the break outs on my chin nor did it help much with the wrinkle between my brow. Since I'm more than halfway done with it, I decided to order the Granactive Retinoid 5%. However, I didn't realize that this formulation comes in squalane and isn't like the emulsion.I tried the 5% last night and I found that the texture was a little gritty but it absorbed fairly easily, although not as easily as the 2% emulsion. I have a few questions about both products:1) what differences did you notice between the 2% and the 5%? I'm not sure what to expect since it's an oil based serum. While I love the 2%, I feel like I could use a stronger concentration to get rid of some of the more stubborn closed comedones that haven't budged.2) When should I apply the 5% serum? I usually apply the emulsion right after cleansing, but since the 5% is an oil and the directions say to apply after water based products I'm not sure when to apply it for the best results. My current routine is: oil cleanser, face cleanser, retinoid emulsion, TO alpha arbutin, hyaluronic serum, clinique moisturizing gel, clinique moisture surge. I think the best time to apply it would be right after my hyaluronic serum? Please let me know your thoughts if you've tried both serums. Thanks in advance!

[Haul] Anti-Haul: Don't buy what you already have because of a sale
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Saturday afternoon, I was reviewing my Sephora/Ulta carts to finalize before purchasing. I took a restroom break and had to replace the toilet paper, so opened up the under sink area. I had to pull out some products to get to it.Guys, I have SO many unopened things. Backups. Things I still haven't even tried yet. I opened up the Notes app and started jotting down all the things I had by category. I realized that for most things, I had more than enough to last me until the Oct/Nov sale. Literally the only thing left in my cart after that was a single cleanser. So I wanted to post this to remind you guys to take a look at your skincare inventory before making that haul. Unless you're good at minimalism or have everything out where you can see it every day, you need some way to keep track of what you have. I've decided to use Excel going forward (because I'm spreadsheet obsessed), but anything will do. Even a post-it.

[Misc] Unexpected side effects of skincare?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've gotten into skincare this year after not looking after my skin for 24 years and my skin feels amazing. However, one of the things I didn't expect is that I would start getting IDed again! The legal age here in the UK is 18, and our grocery delivery the other day wouldn't hand over to me as they needed an adult to accept the order (it had wine in it). She was shocked when I told her I was actually 24! I've had to start carrying my driver's license around everywhere now, whereas before I hadn't been IDed in about two years. So, what are some of the unexpected, unintented side effects you've experienced?

[Misc] Coordinated skincare routines are beautiful but co$tly. There is a dupe for nearly everything!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For those of us who are lacking in funds, it can be disheartening to see gorgeous, colour-coordinated, monochromatic shelfies where the majority of the products are from one line or are at least somewhat aesthetically homogenous.Personally, posting my shelfie would bring me no joy because it isn't anything to write home about, and so I don't. My routine works for me, it isn't anything amazing and I am improving it over time, product by product. However, even when I am 1000% satisfied with my routine, there is a huge chance that I still won't be showcasing it here or anywhere else because it just isn't very aesthetically appealing.Do not be discouraged by this.Hats off to the Redditors who have gorgeous shelves. I love seeing your posts and they inspire me to refine my skincare shelf when I:Have the funds and means for itHave perfect duplicates of the products that work for me but don't fit my aestheticHave the space for itUntil then, please everybody, be satisfied with your routine. We poorer/less experienced ScA are just as good and as valuable as anybody else and your shelf is personalized to YOU. Its current aesthetic value - if that's something you care about - does not define the effectiveness of the products you own or the quality of your skincare as a whole.PSA: For nearly every high-end product that is lauded on this sub, there is a dupe that is at least nearly as good. For example, I'd love to buy myself Herbivore's Blue Tansy oil because I would feel like a princess putting it on, but unfortunately, as a student I can barely afford cereal and eggs after paying off a semester and I found out Acure makes an excellent dupe which I am now saving up for.Google is your best friend. Google your heart out. Find cheap dupes for everything. And someday, when you are inevitably rich and famous, decant all your products into perfectly matching glass jars with droppers and place them on multi-tiered mirror shelves with LED lights and thank yourself for being a cheapskate in your yesteryears.EDIT: [PSA] Just found out via the comments in this post (god bless the people of this sub) that the Acure oil has been reformulated and now contains coconut oil in it. If you, like me, are acne/clog prone and have facial sensitivity to coconut oil and were excited for this product, I feel as sorry for you as you probably do for me. Fml.

[Personal] It seems to me there’s a lot of ppl here that suffer from large pores and oily skin. As much as we obsess over it and how much it sucks...there’s actually some benefits. I’ll share mine “large pore” benefits if you share yours!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was complaining to my esthetician the other day about my large oily pores. She told me how generally people with large pores and oily skin have coveted “thicker” skin which slows down aging primarily because the oil acts as a barrier for UV rays. My mom is mad oily and she doesn’t look her age, which made me think that perhaps there really is a connection...I then did some research and found a cool study! It shows that those with more sebum glands develop wrinkles that are less deep than those who have drier skin:“For the study, Japanese researchers analyzed the skin on the foreheads and around the eyes in cadavers aged 20 to 90 years old, looking at the wrinkles, the number of sebaceous glands (which are what secrete the skin's oil), as well as the skin's elasticity and density. In the end they found that the depth and length of wrinkles correlated to the amount of sebaceous glands in these areas, with areas with more glands tending to have wrinkles that weren't as deep or long.”Study link: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ca.22571I know it’s easy to get worked up about large pores and oily skin, but I think there are still some benefits and reminding me of this helps w my self esteem.Anyone else know any “benefits” to oily skin/thick skin/ large pores? I wanna hear them all!

[Personal] Why do people think you don't take care of your skin because of how it looks?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don't know if I'm being too sensitive, but a friend just said in a group chat that "no offense, but lazy-af doesn't really take care of her skin" and it made me cry, they don't know all the products I've used for skin care... And I probably don't use the large amount of products people on this sub use, but my friends have talked about how their skin care routine was just cleaning their faces with water, so I'm probably trying a little harder than them... It's not my fault my skin doesn't look as good as theirs... nor I need a reminder of that...sorry for my bad english

There is a lot of crossover with this sub and r/stopdrinking. SKA isn't just helping people with skin concerns, y'all are helping tech some of us former drinkers how to take care of ourselves. So thank you for that. Also, getting off the sauce is one of the best things I've ever done for my skin. Alcohol made me puffy and dehydrated, with terrible texture and eye bags big enough for a month long vacation.Love to all you skincare addicts for helping us booze addicts without even knowing it!

[Skin Concerns] Anyone else really struggle with the urge to extract/squeeze sebaceous filaments?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was wondering if any other SCAs had trouble stopping the urge to pick at, squeeze, or extract sebaceous filaments. Logically I know it's bad for my skin, and there are better ways of dealing with SFs (like the fiddy snails method), but extracting SFs is really soothing for me. It's almost addicting.I'm concerned because not only is it bad for my skin, but I also have a history of anxiety and obsessive compulsions (particularly trichotillomania- which I think is a similar compulsion to the extracting habit).I'd love to hear from people who have struggled with this, especially if you've also struggled with similar compulsions before. I could definitely use some advice & support :)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA! I woke up this morning and felt like my skin was helpless and gross. One of THOSE days. However, I decided to take a photo and compare it to my first progress picture and my goodness has there been so much improvement! My mind was telling me it got worse, but the proof in the photo said otherwise! It really helped me feel a bit better and happier about the state of my skin and I’ve been taking these photos every two weeks. It’s been slow, but steady progress!Happy Sunday SCA.

[misc] I did mask night last night with two new masks and holy moly
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So last night I used (the 2nd time for each so I knew my skin wouldn’t react badly) the Drunk Elephant baby facial for 15 minutes, then followed with the new Summer Friday’s jet lag mask for about an hour. I then washed off, moisturized with my CeraVe daily moisturizing lotion and youth to the people eye cream, went to bed, and OMG.The two pimples I had around my mouth were flat and dried up without being crusty, and my overall complexion was smooth, hydrated, and fresh looking. I feel like this combo of masks used one after the other was great for my skin. The DE really seemed to clarify my skin, and the SF really gave top notch moisture.I had been using a sample of the DE so I think I’m now gonna buy it during the Sephora sale. If anyone has been looking for masks for decongesting and/or moisturizing, I highly recommend both of these especially if used together!

[misc] Anyone else have vivid memories associated with different skincare products?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Kinda random but just now I was applying a new sunscreen I bought (Vichy mattifying face fluid dry touch spf 50). I've used this before, this time last year. As soon as I applied it for the first time in a year, the smell, texture and colour of the sunscreen immediately brought me back to my memories of last summer really vividly. Similarly, I recently repurchased a moisturiser I used when I was 14 and the smell did the same for me. I know smells being associated with memories isn't new, but I have such strong memories associated with my skincare routines at different points in my life. Not sure what the point of this post is but crazy how skincare defines different points of my life

[MISC] Discussion: Caroline Hirons recently said one of the things that bothers her in the skincare community is the 'race to the bottom'.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Caroline Hirons recently said one of the things that bothers her in the skincare community is the 'race to the bottom'. The idea that companies offering inexpensive products (The Ordinary, Timeless) are creating an atmosphere that suggests higher priced products/companies are simply ripping consumers off, offering equal quality for lower prices. She goes on to say the lower priced products are not equal to their more expensive counterparts, and you do get what you pay for. What do we think about this, does the cost of a product directly reflect its quality? Do lower cost alternatives negatively impact the skincare community?

[skin concerns] Is extracting sebum plugs safe? Any downside to my regime posted in comments?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Every two months I take my face steamer and a sterilized extracting tool to steam my nose and cheeks and (very gently) extract sebaceous plugs. They glide out as my face is dripping from steam. Just wondering your thoughts on doing this, I know pores can’t shrink, but let me tell you: After those plugs are gone my nose and cheeks are half the size for about two weeks until the plugs begin to return. (also heard they finally stop returning in your later years in life bc your skin is “less active”) I don’t do this more than once every two months or so because .. it’s time consuming. The next day after extracting I feel like a brand new person w tiny pores and don’t feel the need to fill in my face with foundation. Am I technically just giving myself a mini facial, and if so, should I stop? Anyone else do this?

[Misc] Empties as an alternative to hauls?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was thinking about this because of the recent conversations about people disliking shelfies that are posted without reviews because they don't really contribute much to the sub. I think there's a similar argument to be made about hauls, perhaps even more so. My biggest gripes about haul posts are that 1. we see a lot of the same/popular products in them. I feel like I see haul posts with products, like the TO niacinamide, that are already super popular on this sub at least once a day. 2. they don't contribute much to the sub in general. You can't review products you just bought, so the posts are essentially "Look what I just bought!" and all the comments are either "I have that and like it" or "let us know how you like x!"There are obviously exceptions, for example, I find hauls from foreign countries or new retailers informative and interesting, but overall I don't see much point to hauls for the above reasons. I'd much rather see something like an [Empties] tag. There's a lot more educational value in discussing products after using them up. It would still allow people to show their purchases off, but then they could give mini-reviews and say whether or not they will be repurchasing. Just a thought.

[Misc] Does anyone else think Mario Badescu products do absolutely nothing for you?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
A few years ago my coworker and I tried out a TON of their products--and I truly mean a ton. I had at least 20 products of theirs I cycled through over the course of 1-2 years. We both eventually realized that none of the products did anything to improve our skin. Not a single one. Since we both had the same experience, I've wondered what everyone else has gone through with their products. I truly wanted to like their products, as I liked the smell, consistency, and price of quite a few of them.Has anyone else had this experience? If not, which products do you like and what have they done for you?PS: Hello everyone! I'm a longtime, frequent lurker here and this is my first post. Nice to "meet" everyone! :)

Drunk Elephant deleted my insta comment that explained that your face shouldn’t go through a 2 week purging period with cleansers. [misc.]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m just a little salty about that. It was the typical person saying “I switched to your cleanser and now I’m breaking out everywhere!”And DE’s response was the ever typical follow up—“Are you using other sunscreens? Any mineral powders? Any makeup?” (Ya know, all the same things you used before without any problems.)This person actually was using strictly DE though. And the cleanser is what they’ve just added in. .And this next part is what really REALLY bothers me about this whole thing. They replied to this poor unsuspecting soul with, “You might give it a couple weeks! It can take longer to clear congestion and sensitization!”I had to respond to the person because that cleanser also happened to be a $34 nightmare for me that left me with red marks that I’m still trying to fade months later. Basically I said what I felt had to be said. I was very polite, but blunt. A cleanser should never cause a breakout. You should never have an adjustment period for that.Aaaannnndddd now it’s gone. Hopefully the person saw it and doesn’t continue destroying their face for 2 more weeks. I just think it’s so irresponsible of DE to not just admit that you should stop destroying your face with a cleanser that your face clearly doesn’t like. I love most DE products, but this really rubbed me the wrong way.

[Personal] A gentle reminder that the road to clear skin is not always a linear journey
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve lurked on this sub for a few years after discovering it during a desperate google search in high school to figure out why my chin was breaking out (@ 15 year old me: it’s hormonal!). This community introduced me to the importance of a routine, the harms of using products such as toothpaste and lemons on my skin (I definitely tried both....as ashamed as I am now lol), and a general support system for people like me that were struggling with skin issues.Flash forward a few years, I have a solid routine and am now on birth control. Both have contributed to relatively clear skin, and I now get a lot of positive comments due to the time and effort I put into my personal skincare regimen. However, this past week or so, I started to break out on my cheeks and chin, which is something I haven’t experienced in quite a while.Initially, I was quite upset, as up until this point, I wasn’t really worrying much about my skin due to how well-behaved it has become. I started to stress out and think of all the possible things that I could have done wrong and started to reflect on how I have been feeling lately. I’m currently in the middle of a stressful exam season, dealing with a breakup, getting over a cold, and have been skipping on my usual exercise and indulging in rather unhealthy eating habits due to all of this stress. There’s not much of a point to this other than the fact that sometimes personal factors can influence the way your skin behaves, and sometimes you lose some of the progress you have made. And that’s okay! It’s not something to be afraid of! It is, however, important to keep in mind when you’re stressing out over a breakout. Be gentle on yourself. Don’t get frustrated if you aren’t always making the progress you want to. A pimple is temporary, but the effects of self-care and self-love are long lasting. I hope my little ramble can help encourage others who are feeling the same way. :)

[Misc] I did the math on the Drunk Elephant Acid Trip set
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Similar to (and inspired by) this post!, I did the math to calculate the value of the Drunk Elephant Acid Trip set compared to the full price options. The products included in the Acid Trip set and the price per ounce for each of the full size products are as follows: C-Firma - $80/oz full size, 0.5 oz. in Acid TripTLC - $90/oz full size, 0.5 oz. in Acid TripBabyfacial - $47.34/oz full size (comes in 1.69 oz container), 0.5 oz. in Acid TripMarula oil - $72/oz full size, 0.27 oz. in Acid Trip Assuming you bought 1 oz. of each of these products, the total would be $289.34. The Acid Trip costs $100. The percentages of the total price for each product are used to calculate the price per ounce in the Acid Trip. C-Firma - 27.65% of $100, $27.65/0.5 oz = $55.30/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $80/oz full sizeTLC - 31.11% of $100, $31.11/0.5 oz = $62.21/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $90/oz full sizeBabyfacial - 16.36% of $100, $16.36/0.5 oz = $32.72/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $47.34/oz full sizeMarula oil - 24.88% of $100, $24.88/0.27 oz = $92.16/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $72/oz full size So that's the math, but I took it a step further. As you can see, Virgin Marula oil in the Acid Trip set is ~$92/oz compared to $72/oz full size (and even further, it's ~$46/oz in the nighttime duo set). So, in order to understand how the Marula oil issue effects the actual cost of the Acid Trip and its value, I decided to do the math to see what the costs/oz would look like if you considered (or imagined) the following scenarios: (1) the Virgin Marula oil was considered an added "gift" to the set (a.k.a it is not included in the price breakdown), and (2) the Virgin Marula oil was priced at it's regular $72/oz value. Virgin Marula oil is a gift (% of total cost ($100) = 0% or $0): In this case, the total cost of 1 oz each of C-firma, TLC, and Babyfacial is $217.34. Doing the same calculations as above: C-Firma - 36.81% of $100, $36.81/0.5 oz = $73.62/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $80/oz full sizeTLC - 41.41% of $100, $41.41/0.5 oz = $82.82/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $90/oz full sizeBabyfacial - 21.78% of $100, $21.78/0.5 oz = $42.56/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $47.34/oz full size When considering the Virgin Marula oil as a *free gift** (which is a big win to begin with), the rest of the products are still considerably cheaper in the Acid Trip set.* 2. Virgin Marula oil is priced at its regular price per ounce: In this scenario, we are imagining that the 0.27 oz of the Marula oil is at the normal price ($19.44 @ $72/oz), and the remaining $80.56 is portioned by cost percentage between the other three products: C-Firma - 36.81% of $80.56, $29.65/0.5 oz = $59.31/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $80/oz full sizeTLC - 41.41% of $80.56, $33.36/0.5 oz = $66.72/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $90/oz full sizeBabyfacial - 21.78% of $80.56, $17.55/0.5 oz = $35.10/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $47.34/oz full sizeMarula oil - $19.44/0.27 oz = $72.00/oz in Acid Trip, compared to $72/oz full size When considering the Virgin Marula oil as *regular priced*, the rest of the products are even cheaper in the Acid Trip set. In conclusion: If you're interested in trying out all of the products, or even if you'd likely ignore the Marula oil, then this is the set for you. If you are not that interested in one of the three others (C-Firma, Framboos, Babyfacial) and may not use it that often, then I would skip it.

[PSA] Simple way to track your routine
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm sure a bazillion people have already done this, but for those of you who haven't: I created a Google form for a quick and easy way to track any changes I'm making to my routine. You can export the responses to a spreadsheet with one click. Willing to share my form if anyone wants to tweak it for their own use -- just send me a message with your email address.Have a great day! And remember - skincare, like all things in life, is a process. Don't let not being fully satisfied with your appearance keep you from sharing your beautiful self with the world today.

[Product Question] Alternative to Cerave Moisturizing Cream (aka Cerave in the tub)?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
After reading so many great things on here about Cerave in the tub, I finally grabbed some. Wowza it is really incredibly thick and my skin drank it up! I woke up Monday and Tuesday morning with the most plump, hydrated, less red, less acne face I've seen in I don't know how long. However, last night when washing my face, I could feel small bumps on my cheeks and forehead where I never get acne (I'm a hormonal heavy chin acne girl). Then this morning, I could see visible under the skin bumps on my forehead and cheeks. I can only assume these are CC and the culprit is Cerave. I've also read of others having a similar reaction. So my question is, is there anything on the market that hydrates as amazingly well but isn't as comeodogenic or has the fatty alcohols or mineral oil? What is your night time cream?

[Personal] This is why you MUST patch test!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Do not be like me. Patch test your new products!Yesterday I picked up a new CereVe Sunscreen Face Lotion. I have used the AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion for years but I picked up the heavy duty SPF50 yesterday because I'm going to CA this weekend and plan on laying out on the beach. I slathered it all over my face yesterday. I didn't feel anything until near bed time, but woke up with my entire face red, swollen, and in pain. DO NOT IGNORE THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF SKINCARE. It hurts.

[Personal] Got the sweetest compliment at work today!!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I work at an after school daycare centre and one sweet kindergarten girl (who I already adored but now it’s been amplified x10) has given me the same compliment numerous times: “your skin looks so smooth!!” She has even asked me to feel my skin before because it looks so smooth to her!! As someone whose has acne since age 11 and is now 19 and left with just acne scars and a great routine curated from this thread, compliments like that make my day and keep my motivated to stick to my routine (and get rid of those pesky acne scars once and for all). Who knew 5 year olds noticed skin like that? :)

[Anti-Aging] Does anyone here use a 100% Mulberry Silk Pillowcase to prevent wrinkles and bedhead?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Do these help? My additional concern is how such a delicate fabric will hold up against my nightly routine which includes a layer of occlusive. The one Sephora sells is expensive at $99, but I've found more reasonably priced ones on Amazon that have comparable specs. It would be great if it helped with wrinkles and bedhead.

[PSA] Wear sunglasses to protect the skin around your eyes!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently went to the optometrist and he asked me if I wore sunglasses. I told him I wear them all the time outside, and he said that was good not just for my eyes, by for the skin around them. He said people get skin cancer around their eyes because they neglect to wear sunglasses and sunscreen. It also helps prevent wrinkles and all the other fun stuff that comes with sun damage. So don’t forget to protect your lovely eye skin! Especially as we northern-hemisphere folks get into summer and spend more time outside 😎

[misc] acne for years and my mom isnt helping
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I don't know if I have entered the correct tag but this has been something I have been dealing with for a long time and I just want to get it off my chest and ask for advice at the same time.I'm a 18 year old female and I have been dealing with acne for the past almost 7 years of my life. It started with small bumps on my forehead when I was 12 and then progressed to pimples on my cheeks and all over my face in general as I got older and school became more stressful. Recently I'm at the most stressful point of my life and my previous acne which was usually limited to just pimples became painful and deep cystic acne and because of that my self esteem really took a toll.I am fine with dealing acne on my own as I have been dealing with it for years. But since 12 the comments I have been getting from my parents have become worse and worse to a point where not a day passes where they don't make a remark about my face which to them comes off as just a comment but to me has been chipping away my already minuscule self esteem. What pisses me off is that they give 'advice' like "you should wash your face twice with water everyday and your skin will get better" when they have never experienced anything more than an occasional breakout all their life. Most of the time I get frustrated and return to my room to apply layers of moisturisers, sleeping with hydrating masks, slathering the oil and trying everything I can to keep the acne down. To make things worse, when my mom especially sees that I'm applying moisturisers she criticises me saying that what I'm doing is making my skin worse and that I should follow her advice and only wash my face with water twice a day etc. She also spews her bullshit assumptions about me not washing off my makeup before going to sleep (which I never ever do) or not washing my face twice a day (which I don't do because it's drying) as her counter arguments when the topic of my skin comes up, and I have no way of convincing her otherwise because she just refuses to believe whatever I say.Recently I went to the dermatologist (from my own money, not from her wallet) after much persuasion from my friend, and the dermatologist prescribed some antibiotics, clindamycin and topical tretinoin for two months. I'm thinking of going on isotretinoin the next time I go to the dermatologist again, but where I live I have to get my parent's signature for isotretinoin as I am under 21. I brought it up today during dinner and I got the usual "just wash your face with water twice a day, trust me it will clear up, I'm your mother" bullshit and initially I tried to reason with her, saying I'll get the doctor to explain to her why it's not going to work and why isotretinoin is good for me (she is mostly scared of the side effect regarding babies but I'm not even thinking of getting pregnant). She refused and said I should just listen to her advice, which riled me up because she is implying that her advice would help more than a dermatologist's. I got pissed and stormed off and it triggered me to write this after putting it off for a long time thinking it would just blow over one day.I'm stuck and very frustrated, I don't know what to do. I'm sorry if this post isn't proper but I could really use some advicetldr: my mom has never experienced acne a day in her life, thinks washing with water twice a day will cure acne and does not want to give the dermatologist a chance

[Personal] Things I'm not willing to give up for perfect skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I wanted to share a little revelation I had today and was wondering if other people have had this sort of bargaining conversation with themselves:So....it's been a VERY rough winter on the Cantabrian coast. I'm talking cold, periods of over two weeks of straight rain, horrible winds, snow, despair, etc etc. Thankfully spring is starting to make its way here finally and today is a BEAUTIFUL day. It is warm and it is SO SUNNY. I had almost forgotten what the sun even looked like. I went outside and I sat in the sun, and it felt SO good to feel the sun on my face. And despite my whole skincare journey up until now struggling with breakouts and scarring and pigmentation, I realized I'm not willing to give up the feeling of the warm sun on my face (with sunscreen of course).I hear SO MUCH about the things we have given up to achieve good skin on this sub: direct sunlight, sugar, gluten, dairy, caffeine, alcohol. And I realize this is extremely personal and that what you are willing to do to acheive skin you're proud of or comfortable in varies from person to person, but I would just like to share the things I am not willing to give up to acheive perfect skin. These are the things I am willing to enjoy (in moderation of course) in exchange for "flawed" skin:the feeling of the sun on my facea couple glasses of wine on the weekends, especially as sangria season approachesice cream (the full fat, sugary, creamy, good stuff from the local ice cream shop that has been there since forever and reminds me of my childhood)milk chocolate (because I don't care if dark is more "sophisticated")spontaneous sexy time with my partner post-night routineHas anybody else decided things they are not willing to give up even if it means your skin won't be "perfect"?

[Acne] Tretinoin: not the one-night wonder
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Here's my progress over the span of 7 months my B&AI have been using Tretinoin for about 7 months now and I feel like I could have used some more insight from people who have used it before I embarked on this hell of a ride. If you’re interested in trying Tretinoin in hopes of a quick fix to beautiful skin then this isn’t the right one for you. Tretinoin can take up to a year to get the results you want. I got my Tretinoin in October of 2017, I applied it every night for about a month when the purging began. In my experience I broke out every where. It was painful and cysts scattered all across my face- it was kind of fun though searching for constellations throughout pimpled my face. My skin was very dry due to the Tretinoin and Michigan winters tag combination, I used first aid beauty’s ultra repair cream and Vaseline. This did help some but I had to deal with flakey skin for a good portion of winter. It was hard because I am prone to pick anything, whether it be a scar or just a pimple that needs popping. IMPORTANT: if you can’t hold back on popping a pimple use a clean needle and poke it into the middle, squeeze out all of the pus and apply a spot treatment. I wore no makeup throughput the past 7 months - frankly, it just made the acne look worse- besides, why was I to make something so minuscule as acne something to hide?? I highly recommend a vitamin C serum. This stuff is great for hyper pigmentation (which you will get if you pick/pop). If you are thinking about trying out Tretinoin or are just starting out, remember, it only gets better. You have to have it bad before you can truly get the best results. Tretinoin pulls everything out of your skin, leaving it close to impeccable. I promise you, if you hang in there it will get 100 times better. I am so grateful to have had a skin condition that so many worldwide suffer from. I now understand what its like to be afraid to talk to strangers as they look at me different. Scared to go to work, wondering what my customers were thinking of me, if I'd receive less tips for being acne prone. Thankfully, these feelings soon passed and I learned to love every painful cyst I had. I learned that acne truly is just a skin condition nothing more, I saw it as a challenge rather than a hassle. Everything has beauty whether it be internal or external. So, please, stay confident no matter what. Despite the long and painful journey of Tretinoin I am exceptionally grateful for it and would recommend it to everybody.

[Misc] Hydration vs. Moisture: a discussion
Beauty Tips For Body Care
In light of recent comments/threads about adding more discussion to this sub, I'd like to talk about hydration and moisture! I don't believe there's been a single thread dedicated to this discussion, if that's not true, please delete or let me know where I can find it! I have done a bunch of research myself and realized it'd be a nice thread to have added to the ScA arsenal. The main difference: Dehydrated skin lacks water and therefore needs to be hydrated. Dry skin lacks oil and needs to be moisturized. What are your best tidbits that you've learned over the course of your skincare research and trial/error that may help a newbie understand the difference between hydration and moisture? How do you notice dehydrated skin vs. dry skin? How would you best tackle dehydrated skin vs. dry skin (i.e., products, routine additions or subtractions, ingredients to avoid, etc.)? Let's discuss!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing before and after selfie posts, as well as posts documenting people's skin care journeys. It gives inspiration to those trying to get their skin clear and I definitely think people should be proud and share that with our community! However, I don't think posting random selfies with no before photo adds to the quality of this sub.If looking to get compliments, go to /r/toastme, not SCA.Just my two cents.
