Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA. :)It's been... well, shit, it's been years. I first started posting here six years ago and was part of the OG mod team until I was thrown out because I wrote more than I moderated. Then a bunch of stuff went down and I kind of disappeared. Life happened. I got a job that had me move out to Los Angeles. Two and a half years later and miserable at my job, I quit and decided to do my own content. One of those pieces of content is a skincare blog -- a dream that I've had for years since I began writing here but something I never had the time to do.You might remember me from posts like "Evaluating Your Routine."With my feet back in the water, I've begun to spend more time here again, when I'm not writing, podcasting, or playing Guild Wars 2. I'll be doing my best to help out here where I feel like I can offer expertise or advice, especially as it pertains to rosacea and eczema.I've chatted with the mods a bit, and with the urging of my boyfriend (who also apparently messaged the mods), I'm sharing my blog here. I've nervously held back from sharing because I don't want to be a shameless self-promoter, but I am genuinely excited about the content I am writing and the format in which I am able to deliver it. Previously, all of my content was written here, on SCA, but the downside to that is that Reddit is incredibly inaccessible to many people, and many women I've talked with flat-out don't like to visit Reddit due to it's uhh... issues.ANYWAYS, with that said, here it is.My first series is an expounding upon the first portion of "Evaluating Your Routine," with my first post being a slightly re-written version of the post I made here on SCA, and the following posts being a bit of in-depth ingredient and skin science on cleansers and moisturizers. My philosophy is simple: Teach what is still held sacred here -- the science of skin. I'm starting off by educating on products that we use every day, such as cleansers, moisturizers, exfoliators, and sunscreen (oh I'm so excited to write the post on sunscreen). From there, I'll expound on more specific conditions of the skin, such as acne, rosacea, SD, and eczema.Of course I'll get into the more "advanced" (can I call it that?) skin goodies, such as actives and antioxidants, as well as reviews and shopping spots, but it's going to take time.Largely, I want to educate on skin and skin care, since I believe that if you know the fundamentals on skin and how skin functions (or doesn't), you can take the knowledge of formulations and ingredients and apply it to solve that.I also want to challenge myself to explain these concepts in a digestible way. In the SCA of old, I think there was a lot of gatekeeping of knowledge, and thus, a lot of people still feel like they're scratching their heads at some of the terminology used here. Here's what I've written so far:NYC: A Beauty Tour. I recently returned from New York City, where I spent wayyyy too much on skin care and scribbled out the first ideas for Skinologist while on the subway. Among all of the stores I visited, these were my favorites.Evaluating Your Routine: The Very Basics. The first part of the SCA post I made years ago, and the foundation for the first part of my series.Evaluating Your Routine: Cleansers. The science of cleansers -- surfactants and pH -- as well as the types of cleansers available today.Evaluating Your Routine: Moisturizers. My latest post. The composition of skin, what a moisturizer functions as, and the four major types of moisturizers. Something we've talked about here before. So uh, yeah... that's it! Please, PLEASE feel free to ask me what you'd like to see broken down, and above all, feel free to ask me questions and stuff. I'll be hanging around this post, nervously farming in GW2 while mashing F5 on this post just a little too much.
