Beauty Tips For Body Care
November 1st is the official first day of Nation Healthy Skin Month.Because keeping your skin healthy is vital but sometimes overlooked, I am posting an advice summary in awareness of Healthy Skin Month to help keep your skin vibrant, supple, and looking young through your years. Below I listed some great reminders and tipsThe number one and most critical advice i can give is to protect yourself from the sun. The sun might as well be your frenemy. I mean, you need her to keep you warm, keep your spirits up, and to get your essential vitamin D. But she has a way of either making you look gorgeous and sun kissed for the perfect selfie, or you spend too much time with her, wish you didn’t, and your skin only goes downhill from there, ruining your life. Before you know it, you try to avoid her like a bad ex, asking yourself, “why did i even have to be around her so much in the first place, was it worth it?” No...no it wasn’t worth it.As most of you on this subreddit know, the sun damages skin with UV rays, causing many different skin problems like wrinkles, sun spots, leathery textured looks, and cancers. Here are some excellent methods to avoid most sun exposureWear protective clothing such as a long sleeve shirt, hat and pants when you can. When it’s too hot for protective clothing, wear sunscreen on your skin and use sunscreen daily on your face if you go outside. A full spectrum SPF of 15 or higher can suffice, but I suggest a minimum of a broad spectrum SPF 30 or a minimum PA +++ and apply 15- 20 minutes before going outside and then reapply every two hours.Use plenty of water containing products on your body. Products containing hyaluronic acid holds 1,000 times its own weight in water, attracting water to the skin and keeping it there. Occlusives will help trap water on your skin from whatever moisturizing product you use. Drink plenty of clean water. Preferably filtered. I know there is some controversy about how much water is too much water to consume a day, but drinking lots of water throughout the day will hydrate your body and skin.Do not start smoking. If you’re thinking about smoking but haven’t done so yet, the best advice I can give is to not do it. Aside from so many gnarly health issues smoking cigarettes can cause, it will certainly increase the aging of your skin. For a lot of people, the first thing that comes to mind is lung cancer. But smoking cigarettes most certainly has detrimental effects on your oxygen levels, blood circulation, and skin. Smoking decreases blood flow which can deplete the skin of oxygen and vital nutrients. Decreased blood flow can damage the elastic fibers and collagen in the skin. Repeated pursing of lips and squinting your eyes to keep smoke out can also cause wrinkles. And being exposed to extreme heat on your face for a long period of time can cause damage to the skin. If you currently smoke but care about your skin even more than a cigarette, I suggest quitting. Also, something that may be most important to us subscribers is that wound infection and delayed wound healing are common in smokersWhat if you stop smoking?According to the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, did you know that if you stop smoking, your body will start to recover from the harmful effects within about 20 minutes? Think about the effects if you stop smoking for just 24 hours!?! Each positive benefit will help your body heal.“20 minutes without smokingo Heart rate and blood pressure dropso Temperature of your hands and feet increaseo Benefit: improved blood flow to bring nutrients to wounds on hands and feet8 hours without smokingo Oxygen level in blood becomes normalo Benefit: Cells need oxygen to grow and help to heal your wound. As oxygen levels return to normal, your wound will improve.24 hours without smokingo Nerve endings start to recovero Benefit: you will be better able to sense pressure and temperature on the skin of your foot, preventing injury to the skin in the first place.2 weeks to 3 months without smokingo Blood flow improves and walking becomes easiero Benefit: better blood flow means that more blood, oxygen, drugs, and nutrients will make it to your wound to help it heal. Walking, when it becomes easier, is a great form of exercise to lower blood sugar and body weight. High blood sugar and high body weight make it harder for wounds to heal.”There are so many benefits to quitting lighting up and puffing that it’s definitely worth it to do so.Take care of your skin by cleansing it properly, being gentle with it, hydrating and moisturizing it, on the daily. Use a gentle cleanser, too. I know some people on here splash water on their face in the morning. (I do too sometimes. :) ) Use warm water when washing and cleansing your face. Strong soaps also remove the oil from your skin, use mild soaps. Avoid using perfumes and dyes these can possibly damage your skin by causing an allergic reaction. Be very gentle with your eye area. If you wear eye makeup remove makeup gently making sure not to damage your skin around the eyes. (I have a hard time with that. I sometimes tend to be rough on my eyes)Moisturizing works by providing a seal, keeping water from escaping, or by slowly releasing water into the skin. For people with fungal acne, using the correct cleansers and moisturizers for your skin is essential to heal.If you shave make sure use the safest and healthiest method. Shaving can cause irritation, razor burn, and cuts and bumps. In order to reduce shaving difficulties to increase the health of your skin do the following: Press a warm washcloth on your skin before shaving, do not shave dry skin, put lotion or shaving cream on skin, use a clean razor, and shave in the direction of the hair.Be safe and pay attention to any weird or unusual moles or skin tags. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Cancer damages your skin and your overall health. There are three different types of skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Most can be prevented by limiting exposure to the sun. If you suspect a problem, I suggest going to a dermatologist to get checked out to make sure everything is okay with your skin. According to Mayo Clinic, skin cancer can develop on anyone, regardless of skin tone, anywhere on the body. And lastly, exercise! Exercising does wonderful things to your skin and your entire body. It gets your blood pumping and oxygen going, giving you guys and girls that healthy after workout glow that we all love. Please spread the love of epidermal health and I hope this PSA gives you some tips on being aware of your skin this month and every other month throughout the year.Happy Skin Care Awareness Month Y’all!Yours truly,GoldenSmoothie85
