[Personal] I feel disgusting
Beauty Tips For Body Care
(i didn’t see anything about posts like this in the community info but if i missed it and it’s not allowed i’m sorry and feel free to remove)hi this is my first post here mostly i just lurk. today 11/30 is my 25th birthday! hooray, right? except that in the past week and a half i have been having an ongoing allergic reaction to something and i have hives all over my face and body. i look horrible, i feel ugly and i just want to hide. i don’t know what is causing it and the meds that the ER doc gave me (i had to go three separate times because of my lips and neck swelling) are almost gone. i have a referral to an allergist but they couldn’t fit me in until next month. i’ve had to cancel my birthday plans because i can’t bring myself to leave the house looking like deadpool. i know how silly and trivial it sounds and i feel dumb for being upset. like, it’s just a birthday, i’ll have more. why am i so upset? i feel silly even posting this but i figured y’all would understand lol.

[PSA] If you bought something from Dermstore during the Black Friday sale that was more expensive than usual, check the price of whatever you bought now (more in comments).
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have bought my HG sunscreen Replenix Sheer Physical Sunscreen Cream SPF 50+ from Dermstore for the past 2+ years, always from them because I liked how quickly they got it to me plus the samples they gave. I went to buy it from them during there Black Friday sale, and it was ~$3.50 more than usual, but this sunscreen has had it's priced raised before, I'm assuming due to its raise in popularity, so I didn't think anything of it. Checked it's price today...and it was back to what it was before the Black Friday sale. I called them and they credited the difference back to me, but I just wanted everyone to know that some products' prices had been raised for Black Friday so that the 30% wasn't actually 30%.And, yes, I am totally aware that many companies do this during sales, but Dermstore had always been totally legit (the last two black fridays I shopped with them I didn't have this issue) so apparently they have changed. If y'all got scammed like I did, then give them a call to get your money back.

[Personal]My husband has perfect skin and absolutely no routine/uses no skincare products.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So last night as I’m putting on my Cerave cream and complaining about how many zits I have, my husband is like, “all that stuff you put on your face probably just makes it worse. You should just stop.”At first I feel defensive of my skincare routine, like I really don’t do that much compared to some people. I use cerave hydrating cleanser and cerave in the tub and suncreen. Hydrocolloid patches on blemishes at night. Through the past year I tried incorporating stridex and Paula’s choice SA and TO lactic acid+HA but none of them really seemed to change anything so I’ve currently given up on exfoliation and want to see how that goes. But like... my husband just showers daily and does literally nothing else to his face. No face wash or anything and his skin is clear and radiant. I don’t understand. Should I just not use products too?! Did he hit the genetic lottery?! He said he had acne has a teenager but pretty much outgrew it in his 20s (he’s 30). Meanwhile I’m 27 and my acne has only improved slightly since age 15.Somebody please explain why I need to keep using products when my husband has perfect skin while doing nothing.

[Review] Comparison of sunscreens with Tinosorb, Uvinul T150, Uvinal A Plus and Mexoryl
Beauty Tips For Body Care
A year ago I made a post on all the Tinosorb sunscreens I could find at the time, so I thought it was time for an update (see sunscreens here). The most important thing to me is that a sunscreen is non-irritating, free of fragrance, contains stable sunscreen actives, is cosmetically elegant and feels pleasant on skin. I've rated every sunscreen and I added a rating for it's oiliness and whitecast.Good luck finding your holy grail sunscreen! I've found some good ones, but not really my holy grail, so if you have tips for a good sunscreen please let me know.Go to the spreadsheet with all sunscreensWhitecast:0: no whitecast1: slight whitecast, barely noticeable2: noticeable whitecast, easy to offset with foundation3: very visible whitecast4: strong white/purple whitecast.Shine:0: completely matte1: not very shiny2: a bit shiny3: shiny4: very shiny- Ingredients I avoid: fragrance, essential oils, citrus extracts, eucalyptus, bergamot oil, methyl(chloro)isothiazolione, witch hazel, rose water etc- Good sunscreen actives: Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M, Tinosorb A2B, Uvinal A Plus, Mexoryl XL, Mexoryl SX, Uvinul T150, Uvasorb HEB, Zinc Oxide, Polysilicone-15- Okay sunscreen actives: Avobenzone, Octocrylene, Titanium Dioxide, Ensulizole, Octisalate, Homosalate- Sunscreen actives I rather avoid: Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Enzacamene, Padimate O, Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate .

[misc] the purge sucks!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Sorry guys I just wanted to vent a little bit. I started Differin 4 week ago now after doing lots and lots of research on it about how to apply it and how to reduce irritation and what it does. I covered all the basis because I was intimitiated by it.It started out really good and I was seeing improvements in the midst of week 2. I still had some break outs but they seemed less severe and I had hope that it would clear up. Now I'm breaking out and my skin and it's texture looks worse then when I started which is so discouraging.I know it's just the purge and you have to give it 12 weeks to see results sometimes. It's so hard not to get discouraged and scared that it's not gonna work for me and of course my mind goes straight to saying that nothing will ever work and I'll always have to deal with acne. I think half the battle with this purge is trying to positive and have faith that it will work.Sorry I just need to vent and needed a little support that maybe someday I will figure out my skin.

[Misc] Lemon Sherbet!!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have been using The Ordinary's Vitamin C suspension for a week and EVERY damn time i'd spend 30 minutes after trying to figure out what it smells of that is so familiar to me. Obviously it smells citrus-y but there is something more there. This morning i finally got it, it smells like the lemon sherbet my grandma used to make!Phew. This was actually frustrating me.

I really need something to replace it that is affordable, similarly simple, and most importantly, fragrance free.Is there something an American can access within the next two weeks weeks that fits that bill, or am I best served DIYing it and getting grapeseed oil and cremollient on my own? I worry about needing a preservative with that, but I guess as long as I am diligent about storage I shouldn’t.

[Personal] I hate that Curology is the only thing that works for me.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
/rantMy journey with skincare has been a long one. I have danced/performed for about 14 years so I learned young about removing stage makeup, washing your face, etc. Didn't have acne until I was about 18, my skin was flawless. Go a couple years trying drugstore/Ulta stuff, eventually settling on the SheaMoisture african black soap scrub, PC AHA gel and BHA liquid. This combo worked for about a year, I was back to flawless skin! Then it just stopped working. I don't know why, nothing in my life changed, and I couldn't figure out what was happening.I stuck with that routine for about another year before trying different stuff again. I went through lots of Asian beauty products, The Ordinary, cheap drugstore stuff, mid-end shenanigans, eventually saying 'fuck it' and trying Curology since nothing else had helped and I had read tons of positive experiences on here with it. And wouldn't ya know!!!! It cured my whole face!! Everything! CCs? Gone. Angry pimples? Calmed. Scarring? Lightened. My face looked like friggin porcelain. I had the 4% Niacinamide, 1% Clindamycin, 4% Azelaic Acid.I used it for probably six months, then decided to try to switch back to other products because I haaaatteee subscription services. I like to be in charge on deciding when to buy stuff, how much to buy, etc., and I just hate the idea of spending money without even trying, it just comes out of the account automatically. So I transitioned off to cleanser, Melazepam (hoping the AZA is what helped from the Curology prescription), and moisturizer- stuck with that for a couple months- acne came back. Transitioned from Melazepam to Mad Hippie exfoliating serum, and now skin was glowy to the high heavens, but guess what!! Still had acne!!Last night in a last-ditch effort to see if I needed Curology again, I pumped out every last drop I could from my last bottle, barely enough to cover my whole face. Slapped on some moisturizer and went to bed. Lo and behold, my face was 90% better this morning. No redness anywhere. CCs magically disappeared. Skin is moisturized, glowing, and even. Fuck. Looks like I'm signing back up.I just want something from Ulta, be able to buy it when I want to, not passively spend $40 every other month, and be reliant on it for the rest of my life. It doesn't feel financially stable, and I don't want to mindlessly spend that money for the next however many years, and I just feel helpless if they decide to up the price or lower the amount again, because I know I need it and I'll have to buy it anyways. Fuck./endrant

[Misc] Differences between azaelic acid, niacinamide, and Vit C for redness and uneven skintone?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone,I'm trying to figure out which product would work best in my routine. I live in the tropics, so my skin is fairly tan, but also has redness and a splotchy uneven tone. I wear sunscreen everyday! I am looking to even out my skin, get rid of the redness, and get a glow going. Picture doesn't quite do it justice but my cheeks and nostrils are very pink, very uneven coloring across my face too.Routine:AM Bioderma micellar water - Avene tolerance extreme emulsion - LRP Anthelios Ultra light fluid SPF 50+PM bioderma micellar water - LRP toleriane dermo cleanser - Superdrug hydrating serum - Avene emulsionAnyone have personal experience or product recommendations between aZa, niacinamide and vitamin C that would address these issues?https://i.redd.it/ocv56e21m8121.jpg

[Misc] How do you account for confounding variables when trying new skincare?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Say you're trying a new moisturizer/serum/toner, but you a few days later you see new breakouts or red patches. How do you figure out if it was caused by the new addition to your skincare regimen or some other external factor? Common ones: unhealthy eating, dehydration, seasonal changes, unknown allergies, stress, hormones, etc. etc.I guess you could wait out the product until "external factor" is gone but 1) Trying new products would take forever 2) if it ends up being the product's fault, could damage skin for a while. Maybe there's an easy solution I can't think of right now, but I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts! This is my first Reddit post so please excuse any post issues (:

[skin concerns] It IS pityrosporum! And something else as well. If you’re at your wirs end, I highly recommend getting a skin biopsy done! Now curious about your opinions.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Update since this post.I posted countless questions on this sub, just check my post history. My derm was confused and so was I. After 2 years NOTHING has worked and my skin looks like all sorts of things - seb derm, acne vulgaris, eczema, rosacea, subtype 2 rosacea, PIE etcetcetcetcDuring my last derm visit I dropped the topic of pityrosporum possibility. She was reluctant and dismissive. I was fed up with everything she ever perscribed me with no improvement, so much money wasted on pills (I’m off of them after 18 months!) and appointments and perscriptions. I was doubtful since the beginning as she would diagnose me with just her eyesight. But I was done. She said she’d let me come in a week to have skin biopsy done to see the fungal possibilities.I WAS RIGHT!!! There has been pityrosporum found upon examining the sample of my skin under the microscope as well as demodex! These two fuckers are finally out in the light! It’s just step one but after 2-3 years of blind guessing and not being sure of the fuck was my skin so resistant to everything we finally know the cause!!Just PSA: the sampling was uncomfortable. I felt like the lab guy literally scraped my skin to the meat with his little knife. He scraped the inside of my cheek and the side of my nose to get the sample. I was told not to moisturize or use anything but cleanser three full days prior so the results would be accurate. I felt like my skin was bleeding and out in the open after the process - when I looked in the mirror it was slightly red and the small papule was minorly damaged so it was a relief! Now that I’m finallyyyyyyy sure of the root cause, I’m curious of your opinions on my perscriptions to treat pityrosporum and demodex my derm has given me. I’m supposed to use 20% miconazole cream and a topical antibiotic that I dont remember the name of for theee weeks on affected areas (inner cheeks and t-zone and wherever I possibly get a blemish), every night in turns. So mornings would be cleanse & moisturize (and spf if I’m out) and nights would cleanse & be those two things, one night miconazole, other night topical antibiotic for three weeks. Then I’ll have a checkup.Does that sound good? Tbh I’m scared as I’ve had no successes all this time from things perscribed by my derm, lots of which had fragrance and esters and other nonesense. I wasn’t told what to use after those three weeks, guess we’ll disciss that at the checkup. But I’m afraid to even start those two perscriptions. Do any of you have experiences with pityrosporum and/or demodex and miconazole/antibiotic to treat them?I thought about just getting sulfur self-initiatively. Either from the get-go (aka not even trying the perscriptions) or using it after thise 3 weeks for maintenence. Opinions??

[Misc] Just had my enlarged oil glands cauterized
Beauty Tips For Body Care
As the title says, I recently went into my dermatologist to evaluate what I thought were milia. She said they were actually just over enlarged oil glands and offered to cauterize them. I had no idea this was a thing! Possible side effects she stated were uneven skin tone due to possibility of brightening/darkening from the area where they were cauterized. I luckily had some hydrocolloid bandages in my backpack and put them on right away. From what I can tell, there have been no visible scars or anything of that manner which is very surprising! The glands were very very noticeable from far away which is why I decided to have her do the procedure. It’s not recommended for everyone and there are always risks to consider (and it was pretty painful) but I’m happy it turned out well. Anyone have any experiences with this? I’m curious!

[MISC] What's your relationship with your derm like?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just curious. My derm gave me the impression she really didnt care too much about my specific skin and instead just went through a check list of "first we try this, then this, then this," etc. I understand they have a standard procedure but it would be nice for her to listen to me more. I kinda feel like finding a new one now that I have different insurance with a wider network.

[PRODUCT QUESTION] Difference between Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass CC + re.Pair serum and Tiger Grass Camo Drops?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I got a sample of the Dr. Jart+ Tiger Grass color correcting treatment and the TG re.Pair serum at Sephora and WOW I love it! Before I invest so much money into these pricey full size treatments, I'd first like to know about the TG Camo Drops. It seems like it's less coverage and more for dry skin, but I've never used it before. Can anyone give testimony to them? Thanks!

[Anti-aging] Androgens = more collagen; azelaic acid = lower androgens. Is this bad for skin aging?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Recently I’ve gotten into using azelaic acid to control redness in my skin and it works rather well. But I came across some articles saying that men have more collagen in their skin because of higher androgens, and that’s why they tend to age better.Does this mean that by using anti-androgenic topicals like azelaic acid, I’m potentially lowering my skin’s collagen production?(For reference I’m a woman).

[PSA] Patch Test!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello fellow Skincare Addicts! With the holiday season upon us, I just wanted to send out a friendly reminder to patch test products before you incorporate them into your routines, and wait a couple of weeks between introducing new products. This is especially important for those of you with acne-prone or sensitive skin. The holiday season can be a very overstimulating time for us. We are bombarded by advertisements, sales, and (hopefully!) presents. Products that we would normally hesitate to buy are suddenly within our grasp, and seem that much more promising. Remember that preventing problems is almost always easier (and less expensive) than correcting them.Stay warm, stay smart, and stay safe :)

[MISC] After dealing with acne and excessively oily skin for the longest time with no improvement, I just found out I’ve probably got PCOS!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Blood test shows my hormones have shit the bed! I had no menstrual symptoms or pain so it has gone unnoticed for a long time while I just thought I had awful skin.I’m actually really relieved! At least I can put a name to it. For anyone else with problem skin, it might be worth looking into even if you don’t have any “typical” PCOS issues with regards to your cycle.

[Routine Help] Dealing with period related pimples (CF)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I'm definitely pretty acne free, I don't really get pimples just whiteheads. I use the body shop tea tree facial wash which really keeps my skin pretty darn clear. But when I'm on my period, my chin just flares up.It's rarely pimples or spots, it's always those really big super painful ones which never quite surface. They don't look bad but I'm a habitual picker, so I always just gauge them off my face and obviously that looks way worse. They stay for ages though.Does anyone have any recommendations for products? I like my current routine so I don't really want to switch anything up, but like a spot cream or something? It has to be cruelty free, not necessarily vegan though. Thanks!

[Product Question] what’s your HG product that you rarely see mentioned here in routines?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Mines the Paula’s Choice Moisture Boost cleanser. I have dry skin that is prone to breakouts when I use too harsh of cleansers. The Cerave hydrating cleanser that everyone loves broke me out but this one cleanses without drying. I can’t recall ever seeing it come up in anyone’s routines here! What other products deserve more love?

[Review] Dove Dermaseries Face Bar
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey everyone!I used to come on here frequently because between 22-24 I struggled a LOT with my skin- whether it be acne, breakouts, texture issues etc. I was always confused and frustrated about what suited my skin and what would make it happy. I have tried countless routines, cleansers, moisturizers both high end/low end, organic etc. in pursuit of clear skin.I am pretty certain I have combination, acne prone skin. The wrong cleanser/products would make it uncomfortably dry/flaky but slapping on heavy moisturizers would not soak in and sit on top and make my skin look greasy. Makeup made the problem worse. Heavy cleansers seemed to also break me out. My most recent being the It cosmetics confidence in a cleanser, a cleanser in the consistency of a "hydrating serum" Yup. Pimples on my cheeks!I had a friend in school who I would describe as having perfect skin. Super smooth, poreless, never dry/oily, just amazing! I asked her for her routine and she said "Cleansers and moisturizers for some reason have always broken me out. I use soap and body lotion. And I drink a lot of water"I used to think she was lying because uh, really? Soap and body lotion?!Then I met my husband who also had perfect skin and he told me he used dove soap. I was like, this is totally against skincare science! Bar soap is BAD, even if it is dove. The pH, the hygiene, all of those issues...Alas, I tried the dove soap for a while and it was okay-I actually still found it to be quite drying. I chalked it up to good genes for my husband and friend and kept experimenting with different things. Then I saw dove came with a bar soap specifically for the face. It was listed as for extremely dry skin and even suitable for people with eczema and psoraisis. You guys. It was love at first wash.It was super creamy, foamy, just felt luxurious to use. And after I rinsed, my skin looked amazing. Pores looked smaller, existing acne in past few days has been healing quickly and turning into small little pimples/scabs. There was no irritation, residue or dryness either. I am blown away.If you've tried everything under the sun, slapping on toners, acids, using all kinds of wipes...sometimes you just have to take a step back, stop stressing and keep it simple for your skin and give it a chance to reboot and heal itself. I think without even knowing it, I was irritating my skin most of the time. Just because your skin isn't burning to the ground does NOT mean it's not irritated. Take a step back.As for moisturizer, I use the Simple replenishing rich moisturizer. Only one I've found that doesn't cause breakouts and completely soaks into the skin. Very no frills, very basic...simple. Haha! I've tried a lot of their products but this is my favorite.I hope this was helpful to someone, and if any of you try the dove soap, let me know! :)

Hey everyone!I used to come on here frequently because between 22-24 I struggled a LOT with my skin- whether it be acne, breakouts, texture issues etc. I was always confused and frustrated about what suited my skin and what would make it happy. [Skin Concerns] Bite like things on my face?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve suffered from these weird unexplainable bites on my face for the past year while at university and I have no idea where they come from? When I get them, I usually wake up with a big red / purple puffy (and sometimes itchy) bite (maybe, I don’t know - they look like bites to start with for sure) on my face (usually around my cheek / cheekbone area). I am definitely not sure if they are even bites - they don’t itch as much as normal bites and don’t leave a red mark like mosquito bites. The weirdest part is, I exclusively get them on my face - nowhere else on my body at all and my boyfriend has never been effected by these and we’ve been together the entire time I’ve had them? I never used to get them before I moved to uni?I have never been to the doctor about them but the pharmacist I saw didn’t really say much. Also I do wash my bed sheets regularly and I very recently got a new mattress.Anyone know what these could be / where they come from? Should I see a doctor about them? Is there anything I can do to prevent them?? Please help!!!

[Skin Concerns] People who have healed up Sun damage, tell me about your intermediary results
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi AllI am in the process of healing up some sun damage on my arms. I am seeing great progress with AHA, Vitamin C and a little retinol, but I've noticed pale patches occurring scattered over the area. It's likely either different healing processes/areas or some residual scarring popping through [this arm has had it rough, yo], but I was just curious if others have experienced 'patchy' recovery as they went through the process.

Acne that is not surfacing to the top? [skin concern]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For the past few weeks I've had pimples that just form and stay under the skin. It's not painful cystic acne (I've had a couple of those before). It's just normal pimples that don't pop. I've had one near my chin that has stayed for more than two weeks. It's like my skin isn't healing. The only thing I have changed is that I've started using salcyilic acid.

[acne] I (27F) dealing with breakouts for first time ever—Why’s this suddenly appearing and what is the best remedy/routine to clear skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I (27F) have started struggling to keep my skin clear. Until just recently I’ve always had great, clear skin and never had to deal with acne—even as a teenager. An occasional pimple here and there that would disappear in a day or so is about the extent of it until now.Within the last few months I’ve started having clusters of small (bright) red pimples (some are small whiteheads) around different areas of my face. They usually tend to come up around either side of my jaw line or my forehead, and seem to get a single one or two that linger around the side of my nose. Luckily they haven’t been bad enough to leave any scars behind but lately I’ve always had a cluster (or two) constantly. It’s like as soon as one starts to fade, another cluster has already started. What could be causing this all of a sudden? I don’t understand why this is a problem now in my late 20’s when I never dealt with it in my teen years. What is the best remedy to get rid of these annoying beasts?!I haven’t changed anything in my diet and I RARELY wear makeup, or anything on my face. The only change I can think of is my workout routine. Within the last couple months I started doing CycleBar 3-4 days a week—which makes me sweat a lot more than my old routine but I alway either wash my face or shower immediately after class. Plus I’ve always been very active and athletic, and sweating has never bothered me in the past.

[Skin Concerns] I was born without eyebrows and they're always really red. Can anyone help me?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a 35 year old male that inherited from my mother's side an issue where I have no eyebrow hairs and in their place only what looks like irritated red skin. I have no pain, but nothing helps their appearance. I've tried every anti redness cream and hydrocortizone, and I even tried Rogaine on them. Nothing has made any difference or improvement.I went to a dermatologist in the year 2000 who could not help. He did not know what it was or how to treat it but recommended the hydrocortizone.I have thick hair on my head, and normal hair everywhere else. I'm only missing my eyebrows. Can anyone help me? Does anyone know what this is?https://i.redd.it/a421x97mhz021.jpg

[Review] For those of you who can't live without Dr. Jart Cicapair & Ceramidin cream
Beauty Tips For Body Care
http://imgur.com/woikLksSo when I first came to SCA, I screwed my skin up pretty badly. Call me over ambitious, but I was trying everything & anything, which led me to dry, over exfoliated- moisture barrier ruined skin. It took me some time to realize this, but when I did, I promptly quit all actives & really, everything. I knew I needed moisture, and at this point I had really sensitive, easily irritated & red skin. This led to me to the Dr. Jart Ceramidin & Cicapair creams. I would wear them everyday day, together, morning & night. It was life changing for my skin. As you can see from the pictures, I would use up every last bit I could, after all, they're $48 a piece. After I finished these last two, I was low on money, and at least at that time, couldn't justify repurchasing at that price when I had bills to pay.So I started scouring around for different creams with Ceramides & Centella Asiatica. I know from experience I cannot use CeraVe, that was out of the question. I first found out about the LRP, with the price point it didn't seem like a huge risk, so I bought it. After some digging I found the CosRX Balancium Ceramide Cream, which has both the ingredients I'm looking fo, YES!.Here's my results.I won't spend another $100 on the Dr. Jart creams again. I love that brand & it's always done right by me, but the CosRX easily replaces both with one 2.82oz tube for $26. It's still a heavy cream (which I actually like), but sinks in better, and leaves a velvet like finish to your skin. It calms my skin down like the Cicapair used to, and keeps my skin soft af like the Ceramidin would. While I've been using the CosRX longer, and the LRP ended up being more of an after thought- I'm surprised at how well it works for $14. If the CosRX didn't exist, I would still be replacing my Cicapair with it. I think it's not quite as thick as the Cicapair, but for some with oily skin, this may be a good thing.I just wanted to write this because the Dr. Jart creams have for some time now, been HG status for me. I never considered going without them until I was forced to, and now that I have, I can say there are equally good & cheaper replacements out there. Also I didn't mention, but I tried quite a few other cica & ceramide creams besides these I mentioned, and these two were by far the best.

[Anti-Aging] I've got 10 weeks I can have downtime and look crazy. What procedure should I get done?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had fraxel done a few times for acne scars. Definitely helped them, but did not have an overwhelming anti-aging benefit. I've got forehead wrinkles I've had since I was like 12, and the starts of lines around my eyes and mouth (I'm 33). Having taken accutane a few times I look a little younger than I should, but I'm all about that preventative care.In short, if you didn't care about downtime, what procedure would you get done for anti-aging benefit?

[Skin Concerns] Any great skincare products for pregnant bellies/skin? Specifically stretch mark aides?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm currently 7 months pregnant and just recently started getting stretch marks towards the lower part of my belly. There aren't nearly as many as I thought there would be (thankfully), but they are quite bright red/purplish and long.Is it true that there is no way to completely get rid of them? I'm looking for advice on how to treat the redness, prevent more from cropping up and firm up the skin after pregnancy.I'm currently using coconut oil 2-3 times a day to help with the itchiness/dryness of my rapidly growing belly, but I read in the Stretch Marks post in the Guides that there has been no study suggesting it helps with anything other than moisturizing. And to be honest, its not actually moisturizing as well as I'd hoped.Side note: I have medium brown skin color, so the thought of laser (after pregnancy) makes me a bit nervous. Although I'm sure techniques have improved since in recent years. Any suggestions or advice on this?Any advice or tried and true product suggestions would be much appreciated :).

[Misc.] mental health: did anyone have acne from going through traumatic events?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I did. I grew up with perfect skin. When I started university everything was still fine until I was halfway through my studies. I went through a traumatic event that lasted about three years and during this time I remember getting acne and receiving comments from people (like “what’s wrong with your face?”)Now my skin is clear but I can’t stop thinking about the trauma and its impact on your physical and emotional health.Anyone in a similiar boat?

Sometimes I’ll click on an article about “affordable moisturizers” and the cheapest one listed will be $25. As a broke college student, I can’t even afford Cerave PM half the time. I have to say, I appreciate Stridex and it’s price the most out of the products I buy.At the moment I want to buy a moisturizer but don’t really want to spent more than $8 or so dollars. So, what are some of your favorite cheap moisturizers and products?

[Misc] I thought I had hormonal acne, but it turned out that I wasn't cleansing all of my products off!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I guess this is just a little FYI post.I was starting to get pimples specifically on my jawline and upper neck last year.Through my skin care journey on this sub the last few months, I realized that my hydrating cleanser wasn't doing anything to remove my heavy moisturizers and sunscreen.I was using raw shea butter overnight at the time and my cleanser in the morning was Cerave hydrating. I would sometimes scratch my face and see build up under my nails from the shea butter. I tried to scrub it better with my fingers in the morning, but ultimately that didn't help. Also, when I was a teenager, I used Lush Dark Angels which would stick to my skin while trying to rinse off. Guess where it would stick the most? My lower cheek and jawline area! The same area the shea butter was sticking and where I got pimples!I've been recently using micellar water in the mornings and at night before rinsing to really make sure all my night cream/sunscreen is washed off of my jawline area. This is another reason just water in the AM never worked for me either!

[Routine Help] Now that my acne has stabilized, I'd like to start working on fading dark spots. How do I incorporate Vitamin C or lactic acid in my routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've got somewhat sensitive skin, and had horrible acne from an IUD (has since been removed) and stress. In the past 8 months, I've stuck to a very simple but great routine getting the acne under control. And I'm so happy with the results! But I have a lot of dark spots left that I'd like to fade. Since my routine is pretty simple, I think it'll be relatively easy to work in Vitamin C or lactic acid, but I'm not sure which I should start with, which brand/product to use, and how to integrate it. I'm a little overwhelmed by the wiki info, and having a hard time figuring out how to adjust my routine to make it happen. Here's my routine:AM:Cerave washCerave AM moisturizer w/SPFPM:Cerave washThe Ordinary Niacinamide and ZincCerave PM moisturizerMy skin can get dry pretty easily, and I'm in New England, so it's approaching the worst time for dry skin, so I want to stay on top of keeping my skin moisturized.picture of spots

[Meta] End of rule trial decision and other rule updates!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone!I hope you're well. If you're in the US, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, however you chose to spend it. Hopefully with comfortable socks (warm feet are important!). For those outside of the US, I hope your socks are equally comfortable. End of trial for Hauls, Shelfies, B&As and SelfiesOn to business: We recently had the post here to discuss what the trial was like. Mostly people seemed happy with the new rules, so we're keeping them! Some people suggested having different rules for B&As (allowing them all the time), which would mean a different way of using flair. This is something we'll consider long-term. Also not everyone agreed on whether this would be a good idea, so we'll see.A suggestion in the thread that we did pick up were post guidelines for B&As and Selfies, to encourage good posts! You can read them on the Posting Guidelines page, and we also link to them from the Rule Explanations!Rule changes and updatesNew rules:No blog names in flairs. We decided to disallow this, because it makes it difficult to distinguish people who participate in the sub because they love it from people who are only active so that their blog gets exposure. It's also pretty inconsistent with not allowing blog names in usernames. No surveys. This won't have much of an impact on what you see in the sub, cause in practice, we hardly ever allowed a survey to go through. But figuring out whether a survey is non-spammy costs a lot of time, and we'd like to spend that time on improving the sub.Smaller changes:'No politics' became 'stay on topic''No illegal Rx recs' became 'no prescription sourcing'Selfie/B&A routine requirement is now under a general posting requirements heading, which also includes the requirements for Hauls and Shelfies, the limiting of posts to Casual Fridays and having Wednesdays be text-post onlyWe updated some explanationsSee the Rule Explanations page for the end result!None of this is groundbreaking, but sometimes you just need to do small maintenance things to keep things in proper working order :)Other stuffYou can expect a Meta post about the science contributors and the start of the wiki thread within a week! And in about a month, we will be having our yearly gratitude post, where we give out gold to people who have contributed to the sub, and where we give out ScA Helper badges to the top contributors in the Daily Help Threads. I'm excited! If you'd like to be kept up to date on what happens in the sub, you can subscribe here to be notified of official Meta posts, Fireside Chat threads, and/or wiki updates. [Personal] Supplements specifically for dry skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have Hashimoto's disease and mixed with living in a very dry climate, my skin has been crazy dry and dehydrated the past few years.I started taking powdered collagen after my mom had a great response to it (her hair started growing at a normal rate again and has returned to her normal color versus the much lighter shade she had been sporting for over a decade. Her skin is also a lot less fragile).Generally, I use a 9 step Asian beauty routine that focuses on hydration and moisture, including a daily nighttime routine including an occlusive oil on top of a sleeping mask and had to cut to out almost all chemical exfoliants. I have had almost no oil production on my face or in my hair.Over the last few weeks, I noticed that my makeup wasn't sitting as well during the day and it took me a few days to realize that it was because I started producing oil again. The past few days, I noticed that I didn't need to use all the steps of my routine in the morning for my face to feel hydrated and I was able to forgo the sleeping mask the last two nights. It appears that a few weeks if collagen supplementation has helped my skin and I am excited to see what it continues to do (Not to mention that the collagen has greatly decreased the amount of DOMS I feel after lifting). What other supplementation have you all tried that had a great impact on dry skin? Or conversely, are there any that have made your skin feel more dry?

[Misc] Those of you who use humidifiers... when do you run them? Overnight?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So recently I moved across the hall to a much smaller room with an attached bathroom. I've always used a humidifier in my old room since I'm extremely prone to nosebleeds (got it cauterized in august though and haven't had a bout yet). Since this room is smaller I used my moms small Vick's cool mist humidifier. My old humidifier would tell me my room's humidity and shut off at the % I chose but this one does not. However within a few hours on the lowest setting my room is so humid I can see the particles with my flashlight and it just looks... misty when I turn a light on. It just looks way too humid to keep on the rest of the night. I turned it off now as it's currently been on for three hours and my room is humid and I can see the particles a lot. Sometimes I open my bathroom door to let some in and out from my bedroom area. Is this how it's supposed to be?Yes, I clean it every two days and we have super soft water.

[Anti-Aging] neck lines and skin texture issues
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone! I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the texture and wrinkles on my neck? Please help me out I don't want to wear turtlenecks all summer long! ahahahahaI'm 20, but my neck looks 40. Ever since I was like 15 I've had these textual issues and they've never seemed to improve on its own or through consistent creaming and gentle exfoliation. The skin on my neck is a bit dry so I've recently tried the Neutrogena gel hydroboost and that hasn't done much for me besides making my skin a tiny bit softer. I was thinking of caving and buying the NIOD Neck Elasticity Catalyst but I don't want to fork out $100 every couple of months for the rest of my life just to make my neck look nice.I haven't had sun damage to my neckline and I barely wear perfume so the skin shouldn't be damaged.I've read about venus rings and for me, they're not my biggest problem, the texture is. I just don't know how to treat it - should I use an exfoliating toner? A hydrating one? Buy a $100 neck cream? If anyone has any product recommendations or experience with this please comment down below! xhttps://i.redd.it/hmmu5yakzk021.jpghttps://i.redd.it/0a644ashzk021.jpg

[product question] lash growth serum
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! I have slightly hooded eyelids that seem to be getting more and more hooded as I get older (31 y.o) I find that when I apply false eyelashes it really improves the overall look of my eyes and hides my hooded eyelids. The only thing is I hate applying/wearing them! I am interested in lash growing serums so I can hopefully achieve this look without the use of falsies. With all of the options now on the market I would love some advise on what works and what didnt!

[Routine Help] wanting to get into a routine but don’t know where to start
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’m a 21 year old female who wants to get into a routine of taking care of my skin.I’ve never really been the type to care about my appearance (besides personal hygiene and looking presentable), but after getting my ass dumped and being through a slump, I now want to go through a glow up to boost my confidence and I think it’ll be fun to get into. I would be forever grateful for any help from you guys to help me and suggest nice products for me!Some information about me / my skin type:I don’t wear makeup at all (mostly due to my easily irritating skin)I have lots of breakouts; I’m not on birth control, I always have had random breakouts. My skin has been clean, but it has never been clear like how I want it to be. I have 2 or 3 little pimple scars too. I normally breakout on my forehead, but recently in the past month, it’s been on my cheeks or my chin area.I was told I have combination skin (?) my T-zone gets oily but the rest of my face is super dryI have eczema but it’s not too severe - it’s gotten much better over the years and now the areas which were affected (arms) just gets a little more dry than other parts of my skin - and a small circle blotch of dry skin on my cheek (which I use a prescribed steroid cream to treat it and it works great)Which these things in mind, can you guys please help me find moisturizers / toners / cleansers or other products that might be suitable for me?I’ve been looking at products with good reviews (Dr.Jart’s Ceramidin cream, Aesop products, lactic acids, etc) but I’m not sure if they’re right for me. I know even if these products may work for someone with a similar skin type as me, it might not work personally for me, but I’m willing to explore and just try new things.I’m a total beginner so I’m not sure which ingredients are harmful / which I should avoid. I only use a neutrogena face cleanser and CeraVe moisturizing lotion for my face and body (my family doctor recommended me this one after seeing my eczema on my arms).I’m in Korea for the next month and there are overwhelmingly way too many makeup / skincare stores everywhere. I tried to ask the store skincare specialists for help but they’re not too trustable since they’re trying to always sell me hundreds of dollars of expensive sets of products.I just want to find a daily moisturizer along with other products which could help me dip my toes in the water for a routine to help improve my current skin. I don’t have a budget, and I’d appreciate any suggestions!

[Skin Concerns] Hyaluronic acid for sensitive combo acne prone skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have combo acne-prone / clog-prone skin that is somewhat dehydrated. My routine right now is:AM: cetaphil cleanser, vitamin c, cerave pm moisturizer, La Roche Posay SPFPM: cetaphil cleanser, retinoid or bha (2-3 times a week), cerave pm (sometimes add drop of rosehip +squalene).I was looking at Glossier's super bounce and I don't know if I should try it or just let my skin be. I have tried Super Pure and I'm not too sure if it makes a difference for my skin, it might be slightly helping fade scars but it is subtle. I have used the popular Hada Labo but it broke my skin out terribly and Drunk Elephant's B-Hydra didn't really do anything for me. Does anyone have any suggestions or have you used Super Bounce before? On another note, I was also looking at Glossier's Galaxy Greens mask and was wondering if anyone with similar skin has used it before?

[Acne] IPL at home for acne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've suffered from hormonal cystic acne for my entire life, and as my doctors aren't willing to prescribe hormonal medicication for it, I'm left to deal with softening the consequences as well as I can. This means that once in every while I'll get a few gigantic red cysts that hurts and will stay for 1-1,5 month before retracting, always leaving behind a nice dark scar. Lots of fun! However, a few years ago I used to go see this beautician who used some sort of light or laser machine to ease the inflammation and bacteria, and as a result, the acne always retracted the day after, no matter how bad it was. Sadly, I never got a name of the thing she used other than that it was "laser". She would press one of two "pens" into the inflamed acne and hold it there for some seconds, before the machine beeped and when she'd go on to the next cyst. I assume she never told me the name of the thing since laser and IPL treatment in the face area is banned for salons without a certain certification/education, but hell, it was the only thing that helped get rid of my cysts once they had emerged. So my questions here are... With this, er, amazing description of the laser/light/whatever thing, do you think IPL is what she worked with? Or some form of laser? Would there be any chance that these at-home IPL machines could do the trick? Or any other form of home-treatments? Would it even be worth buying one of these cheap ass probably worthless blue/red light pens on Ebay that claims to take care of inflammations?I've been in contact with every single beautician near me, and none of them offer any treatments to make acne retract, so I won't get any help there.Any ideas would be much appreciated. I have these awful cysts in my face right now that I just want to get rid of before they leave scarring.

[misc] Why does it seem IMPOSSIBLE to find a irritant free, completely fragrance free moisturizer that won’t clog pores and that actually works consistently for sensitive/reactive skin!!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Cerave (irritation/clogged pores)Cetaphil (some of their products contain fragrance and irritating ingredients) the cream is just ok.Neutrogena (hydro boost- irritation red dry skin) I used the fragrance free one.Vanicream- does nothing beneficial. Feels like it suffocates my face leaving it dull even when applied to damp skin.Clinique- Dramatically different moisturizing CREAM. Didn’t really irritate, but left my skin super dull over continued use. Maybe caused some clogged pores.First aid beauty - I tried their ultra repair cream and their lotion. Result was red irritated dots all over the face.I’ve tried A LOT of moisturizers that I haven’t listed and I still haven’t found the one.Has anyone tried the SOON JUNG line? It’s Korean based and it is fragrance free. I’m a little concerned about the CTEARYL alcohol and possibly Shea butter.PLEASE recommend a irritant free moisturizer/combination of products that has worked for you consistently over time without causing problems while keeping your skin smooth, healthy and clear.I have very sensitive/irritable reactive skin.

[Skin Concern] Dry winter skin, will humidifier help?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I live in Canada and the recent change in temperature has made my skin so dry. I've searched through the threads and some people recommend a humidifier. Should I be looking for a warm or cool humidifier? Not sure which is more beneficial for dry skin? Those of you who have used one, is it noisy at night? And do you run it all night or for how many hours?I'm also going to try Hada Labo Premium as many people have suggested to replenish moisture

[PSA] A personalized skincare startup from MIT - looks really awesome for all of us INCI nerds
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I found this article on coolhunting featuring a skincare startup from MIT. They're using maching learning to pinpoint what causes certain skin issues (hormones, weather, product ingredients, etc). It seems like they're looking at a lot of different types of data and connecting people to ingredients based on those factors, too.here's the linkWhat do you guys think? I think the idea of something like cosdna with tracking and a community aspect sounds really neat.EDIT: I looked to see if it's been mentioned in the sub previously and someone had posted a link to their Kickstarter where they're selling a kit to measure your skin's data (moisture, oil, pH, wrinkles, environment, UV, etc) and create a custom serum.

[Misc] A solution for product pilling
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, just wanted to share my new discovery. I use 'TO Niacinamide' and when I'm in a rush and dont have time to let it settle it can start to pill. But then I ran out of my 'La Roche Posay Anthelios XL anti shine' sunscreen, and decided to try a new one (even though I like it). Bought 'La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra for sensitive eyes', and even though I prefered the other one, this is my new go to because it MELTS pilling! When my products start to pill, I don't have to worry I just put this on and it melts everything. Pretty handy I think so just wanted to share.Oh btw, I have combination acne prone skin. Dunno if it's relevant. (Sorry for formatting and stuff, it's my first post)
