Beauty Tips For Body Care
Learn from my mistake! I noticed about a week or so ago that I started to develop some really heavy, painful (and what I thought…) was cystic acne along my jawline and cheek. I typically battle with hormonal cysts during my menstrual cycle, so I didn’t think much of it, other than it was particularly brutal this time around and far more painful than usual. Another strange thing with this bout of acne was that it wasn’t healing, were somewhat oozy, and hurt like the dickens. Then two days ago I woke up with the mother of all cysts above my left temple in the hairline. This was weird. First off, I don’t get cysts in my hair, second, this thing WAS HUGE (like a quarter-sized lump), it stung when I washed my hair (that’s how I found the thing) and it was extremely tender to the touch. Throughout the day, the whole left side of my face started to swell, was hot to the touch, the lymph nodes behind my ear were swollen, and felt like I got socked in the side of the head with something. Very weird, and I had finally seen enough red flags to consider that this might not just be a typical breakout. I went to the doctor yesterday, even though I was embarrassed and sure that they would just brush it off and give me a line or two about how acne can be painful sometimes (ugh). As it turns out, this nasty cyst on my head and the acne I had been struggling with for days is actually a staph infection. Cue all of the antibiotics in the world, and a hefty dose of prednisone. Hopefully this will curb the infection otherwise I’ll have to spend some time at the hospital getting IV antibiotics. I guess I just want to leave you with this notion: If your skin suddenly makes a turn for the worse without cause…at least consider getting it checked out by a doctor/dermatologist. If I would have listened to that little voice in the back of my head a bit sooner, I wouldn’t be in as much pain as I am, I wouldn’t be dealing with an infection that was as bad as this, and I wouldn’t be looking at nasty scarring once this heals completely. Also, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD don’t try to express/pick/pop acne in general…but particularly when it seems crazy different than normal. My doctor mentioned that these infections get far worse by people mistaking them for monster zits and trying to pop them.
