[Misc.] What are some products that should NEVER be put on your face at the same time?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I saw some people had a bad reaction when they put glycolic acid as well as niacinamide on their face at the same time. Is there any other big NOs in putting 2 products on your face?

[Personal]Dermarolling has undone over a decade's worth of damage, in under a month.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Pics (I'm covered in vaseline, forgive the grease in the after lol) Note the colour contrast between my face and my hands -_-So I just wanted to share my experience with this godly item and perhaps help those who have been seeking a solution to their PIH/Texture issues, when nothing else worked.I've been using a dermaroller (0.5mm) for about a month. Rolling about 3 times a week and applying a 20% vitamin c everyday, twice a day. Trying to reverse the years of damage, where I never wore sunscreen whilst using tretinoin and benzyl peroxide (I had an awful derm). The redness has gone and PIH that I haven't seen budge in years, is finally fading (As you can see, some still need to fade, but that comes with time)I'm going to do an update post again in about a month.

[Acne] First morning waking up with no new breakouts in a LONG time. Thank you SCA.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've posted a few times with questions and looking for input on my acne. A few days ago I posted about the worst breakout I've ever had and after getting some input and browsing this sub for an ungodly amount of time I'm finally starting to see some progress in my skin! Here's a little 5-day before and after. It doesn't look like much but it's HUGE to me and the most progress I've made in a long time. Here's my current routine:AM:Gently wash with Avene anti-redness cream cleanser and a silicone scrubby.Pixi retinol tonic (maybe just placebo, feels nice on my skin though)Moisturize with La-Roche Posay Toleriane Fluide. I spread it on with a refrigerated gimmicky jade roller I bought a while ago because the cold is very soothing and it keeps me from touching my face and wanting to pick.Aveeno hydrate and protect SPF 30PM:Take off makeup with Marcelle sensitive micellar waterNeutrogena stubborn acne spot treatment BP gel on breakouts - leave on for 10 minutesGently wash with Avene anti-redness cream cleanser and a silicone scrubby.Moisturize with La-Roche Posay Toleriane FluideVaseline on red spotsI think cutting out fatty alcohols has made a big difference in my skin. There's some in the cleanser but it gets washed off so I'm not super concerned. I'm also pretty convinced that my acne is hormonal at this point - I'm just finishing up my period so I think it's no coincidence that as that's ending my breakouts are clearing up.I am so thankful to this sub for all of the knowledge and recommendations. I'm finally excited to stick to a skincare routine. Any suggestions/critiques are also more than welcome!

[PSA] I decided to get the "free" Lumin skincare trio, which was advertised as a product who's been featured on GQ. I think that is a misleading and false information. Here is why.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
After getting the product, I emailed the Lumin support team on 18th of December. I did not get any answer up to 27th of December where I wrote to them again. Still no answer, but the time frame for an answer is 2 days (as stated on the website). My email asked specifically for them to inform me when and where were they specifically featured or to refund me. The refund of 5 Euros is not that important to me, but I do want an answer.Since I was not getting an answer I started searching and I found out they had answered one client that had my concern on their Facebook page.So the GQ articles of March, April and May supposedly have them. The next step was to search for these magazines. Found them and went through them top to bottom. By searching for keywords (Ctrl + F) I was not able to find any "Lumin" or "Skin Co" at all.On the other hand the "Featured" section of the magazines on the respective months are as follows for March, April and May.I am not sure if I am missing something, but this seems like shady practice, and I feel bad about it as a novice in Skincare who tried this "free product" to ease myself into the skincare routines.

[Misc] Gave myself an at-home spa day with routines that yielded immediate, fantastic results!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Yoooo, as the title states, I splurged some time into my skincare routine as I was sick & decided to spend my Sunday indoors watching sports (I’m a dude).I suffered from major adult acne that persisted since April this year. Since October, I started a “10-step” and greatly pacified my skin (I posted a B&A so stalk it). Now, I’m addicted to skincare haha. Anyways, see my routine for both AM & PM below. Again, this is just a weekly thing, not something to do everyday.AM 1. Clean It Zero — oil-based cleanser 2. CosRX — good morning low ph cleanser 3. 10-minute face steam 4. My Mentor — vitamin C & E mild peel 5. Precision Beauty — green tea exfoliating scrub 6. Anthony’s — deep pore clay mask 7. ACVWell — licorice toner 8. Missha — intense moisture essence 9. CosRX — snail mucin essence 10. Etude House — oil-free emulsion 11. Missha — time revolution ampoule 12. Triple C Vitamin C serum 13. TO — niacinimide 14. Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre — moisturizer 15. Klairs — Fresh juiced vitamin E mask 16. Neogen — sunscreen 17. Vitamin E & C spray mist after a handful of hours 18. Ate a lot of antioxidants 19. Drank a gallon of water over the course of the day 20. Avoided sunlight all day 21. Took a napPM (got lazy at night bc 3 hour gym sesh that ended at 11:30pm) 1. Origins — checks and balances cleanser 2. TO — lactic acid 3. Aloe Vera BHA toner 4. Neogen — moisture essence 5. CosRX — snail mucin essence 6. CosRX — BHA emulsion 7. TO — alpha Arbutin 8. TO — retinol + squalene 9. Clinique — salicylic acid spot treatment 10. Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre — moisturizer 11. CosRX — low BHA night maskTakeaways/goals: My AM routine strived to load up on Vitamin C, É, and niacinimide, layering products that would provide these vitamins/actives all day. Vitamin C & E pair beautifully with each other, while niacinimide bolsters the brightening effects & scarring reduction that vitamin C aims to do.My night routine aimed to load up on AHA & BHA’s while retaining as much moisture as possible. I have a bit of acne scarring & slight hyperpigmentation so this routine tackles those concerns with consistent delivery as I wind down/sleep through proper layering. Moisture essence, emulsion & night cream maintains proper moisture — something that is even more important during winter. After my AM routine, I saw immediate results of reduced acne & brighter skin! Now, I’m sitting on baby smooth skin!I’m sharing this splurge but please research & proceed with caution, respecting your individual case/skin.I’m a 26 y/o male living in Los Angeles that had persistent adult acne which ceased to go away until I took skincare seriously a few months back.Feel free to critique/comment/ask anything. I’m still a newbie to all of this so continued learning & adjusting is the goal!

[Sun Care] Please, for the love of god, let your skin enjoy some sunshine.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
The sun benefits our body by giving us Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and magnesium. It directly contributes to your bone health and helps avoid rickets and osteoporosis (a very common health concern for women as we age). It is also a research-supported mood booster and can help soothe some symptoms of depression and anxiety. Additionally, people with a lot of melanin (people of color) absorb less Vitamin D than white people, and Vitamin D deficiency is a common health problem in communities of color in the US.Dietary supplements like Vitamin D pills are hugely unregulated by the FDA and often amount to sugar pills. Additionally, Vitamin D does not occur in significant rates in very many foods. Cow’s milk and fish are your best bets, but you’re SOL if you’re not able to eat those things, access/afford those things, or live a vegan lifestyle. You do not have to apply sunscreen while you sit indoors. You do not have to apply sunscreen before stepping outside to check the mail. You do not have to apply sunscreen to have a cup of coffee on your patio. Put down the Dr. Dray dogma and enjoy the sun on your face. Do it for your bones. Do it for your mood. Do it to fight seasonal depression. Skincare is self-care for so many of us, but if we aren’t considering our bone health (especially for women) and our mental health, our dedication to self-care is ringing empty.Sunlight is your friend and there is a reason that it feels so nice on our skin. It is good for us.Let your skin touch a little sunlight.mutes post

[Meta] Announcing the New Year's resolutions thread (series)!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi everyone, I hope you've had a good week :) If you've been celebrating any holidays, I hope they were nice, non-stressful and that they made you feel connected to the people you love.I wanted to do something new on the sub in 2020, and I hope you'll join me!On January 2nd, I will make a New Year's Resolutions thread. In there, we'll share a good intention for the new year, and talk about how to best make sure we achieve those goals! For instance: not skipping your PM routine as often, being more mindful about your purchasing, being kinder to yourself about your skin, picking less at your face. Resolutions that are compassionate, not punishing, and that focus on small positive changes we can make in our lives.Besides the introductory thread, I'll also post monthly check-ins so there's some accountability and support on how our resolution is going. Do you need to adjust your goals? Do you (well, definitely me) need to accept that perfection isn't realistic? Do you need some cheering on to keep you motivated? That's what the check-ins are for!I'd really love any of you who feel called to join me - whether you've been active on this sub for years, a lurker who only votes, or if you just found this sub through google and don't yet have a reddit account. If you have a good intention for next year that you'd like support for and to support others with the same, you're the person I'd like to be part of this project. If you want, you can sign up to get notified when the New Year's resolutions thread (and optionally, the check-in thread) goes live. But you are also welcome to simply jump in if it happens to come across your feed!***Click here to get notified about the New Year's Resolution post!**\*If you have any questions at all, please leave them in the comments or send me a PM :)I hope you'll join me!

[Routine Help] Used bar soap for 24 years, started using skincare products
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Sorry in advance, I'm a complete skincare amateur and rambly writer. As the title indicates, I've been using bar soap on my face for 24 years with little to no issues. I never really had acne before now, even if I skipped out on washing my face for a few days or didn't change my pillow case for a month. In the past year, I decided to try and take skincare more seriously, especially since it was getting more noticeable that I wasn't applying any kind of moisturizer after washing my face. That was about a year ago, and I started getting acne about a month to a month and a half afterwards. My routine, if you can call it that:Rinse with warm waterCetaphil Gentle Skin cleanser/Cerave Hydrating Cleanser/La Roche Posay Effaclar (after I started getting the acne issues)Rinse with cold waterbelif Manology Smart Recharger after skin driesMad Hippie Vitamin C Serum (I have some very light redness and general skin tone unevenness on my cheeks and heard this might help) 15 minutes after rechargerI don't wear sunscreen particularly often because I'm awake at night and indoors whenever the sun is up due to my job. When I do though, it's Hera Sun Mate Daily. My issues:At first, I was getting forehead acne, small red bumps with no head. This transitioned into the same kind of acne on my left cheek, and now into a group of large, blind pimples on my left cheek. I'm pretty good about leaving acne alone, but the ones on my cheek never really fully healed. The bumps stayed and are brownish-red, even though it's been a few months (~August). It's also weird because I didn't have acne in all places at once. Right now, my right cheek and forehead are fine.I think the problems stem from the moisturizer selection, and I'm scared to try other products. I think my skin is on the dryer side, but anything made for dry skin, even cleanser, seems to create and exacerbate any acne issues. At the same time, I'm hesitant to try anything made for oily skin because, well, my skin's not oily, and the product descriptions/testimonials or reviews seem to highlight the drying power of stuff made to clear acne.My questions:I'll try asking questions so that I have to information to help find the right product for myself, though any recommendations would be highly appreciated! Are moisturizers supposed to make skin imperfections more pronounced? The Smart recharger seems to make even small red bumps I never see really noticeable. Are men's moisturizers the same as gender-neutral/women's moisturizers? I keep seeing mixed answers in articles online.Maybe the wrong place to ask this, but should I keep using bar soap? It has the least effects on my skin by far. What are some general descriptors for skincare products that I should look for given what I know about my skin?Unrelated, but I think I have keratosis pilaris on the back of my arms and possibly above my knees/lower thighs. These usually don't bother me, but the usual solution of SA lotion didn't work and now I'm determined to get rid of them just to say I did. Thanks for reading all the way here if you did, I'd appreciate answers to any of these questions!tl;dr Used to use bar soap, skincare products do weird things to face. Have dry-ish skin, but dry skin products create acne and oily skin products sound scary. Online articles too general/binary to be informative. Would like advice on how to proceed and research skincare.

[Personal] Aggressively unsupportive relative
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I have a relative that I see very frequently who refuses to stop commenting on my acne. Every time I see them it's always "your face looks horrible", or them making noises of disgust and demanding me to turn my face so that they can get a better look at me, constantly saying that I need to go get some bougie treatment because of how awful it looks. I've repeatedly told her that it clearly bothers her more than me, that I don't have time/money/interest for a bandaid solution when I know the results will be super temporary. My acne has improved which I also pointed out and she just continues to coo about how it need to get it taken care of anyway. (She recently got a treatment by someone I suspect to be a hunbot, and sent the tech my info, gossiped about me, and the tech I suspect is just trying to push her products.) My skin is sensitive and I'm on a cocktail of meds, I don't want to add unfamiliar products to the mix to be safe. I have a regime that is slowly working and I'm happy with it.How do I deal with someone like this? I have to work with them so I can't say something rude or ignore them.

[Personal] I need to rant about how insensitive some people can be
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have a friend who has perfectly clear skin and has never had any skin problems in her life. We were talking about future jobs the other day (we’re med students) and she said she was thinking about doing dermatology, because she’s a perfectionist so she would love getting paid to be picky about how people’s skin looks (her words, not mine). That part I didn’t have a problem with, because that’s literally a dermatologist’s job. However, she then went on to say that she thinks people with acne shouldn’t be allowed to be dermatologists, because they obviously can’t look after their own skin so they wouldn’t be able to look after anyone else’s. She said no one would take a derm with acne seriously. According to her, it’s easy to get rid of acne if you just wash your face every day (keep in mind she has NEVER had acne).I should also point out that this friend is really quite rich and I’m definitely not, which isn’t a problem for me at all, but it does mean that she’s always had access to the best skin products money can buy.At this point I was fuming. She was telling me, someone who’s had acne for over a decade and still does, all of this rubbish about how acne is easy to get rid of if you wash your face twice a day and how people with acne shouldn’t do dermatology. How insensitive can you get? I’ve always been very self conscious of my skin, and finding out my friend’s opinion on acne has made me feel so much worse. I feel like she thinks I’m dirty or lazy, even though I’ve tried what feels like everything I can to help my skin.I don’t really know what I wanted to get out of this rant, but I needed to get it off my shoulders. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

I have always struggled with my skin and haven‘t seen my aunt in a while. Today she asked me if I did botox, because „there are no lines on my face and it looks so smooth“. I can‘t tell you how happy I am! That‘s what applying sunscreen daily and a good routine get you! Don‘t give up, it took me a long time to find the right products.

Right now I use;AM: Wash with Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash (but I also just started to try out the La Rouche Posay foaming cleanser and I’m not sure if it’s good for me yet or not) Michael Todd Blue Green Algae Toner Paulas Choice 2% BHA liquid Kiehl’s ultra facial cream (but I just also started trying the Cetaphil moisturizing cream in the tub but I’m not sure if that’s too much for a regular face lotion)PM: Remove makeup with soap and water or Rosehip oil then face wash (I know this isn’t great...) Spot treat with Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment (I’ve always liked this stuff) Moisturize same as AM moisturizerI think I need help with the whole routine and how the Epiduo fits in! I especially would love to get recommendations on make up remover, moisturizer, and I need to add a sunscreen. I really hope this stuff clears up my acne because I don’t want to take out my IUD! If you have a similar experience please share!

[acne] Extremely angry and upset
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve had acne since I was 13. I’ve tried every antibiotic and topical the deem has offered me, with little help. I don’t the classic cystic acne that stays on the cheeks. Around the time I took accutane/when it purged it’s mainly around my mouth with some pustules reaching farther out to my cheeks. About 9 months after taking accutane, my acne is back. It started at my forehead, then to my hairline oddly, then down to my chin again. I’ve been taking spironolactone for the past 2 months, and it isn’t doing jack. Should I be using a topical with the spiro? I hate topicals because of the dryness and photosensitivity. I’m even leaning towards going back on accutane because that’s the only thing that’s ever worked for me.I’m so scared for the purge if I go back on it. My purge last time was so bad, way worse than the acne I had ever had before was.I’m so sick and tired of having acne. Tomorrow I’m having “the flu” instead of going to my friend’s birthday party because my skin has broken out in pustules in the worst spots possible (between the eyebrows, middle forehead, jawline)All I gotta say is I’m so done. So pissed. Anyone who has clear skin has had their life served to them on a silver platter (ok maybe I’m being a tad dramatic). I’ve spent so much money on skin care products, spent so many hours at derm appointments, so many nights I’ve stayed in because of my skin, when most people I know just wash their face and their skin is glowingly radiant and clear. Im so upset, I’ve cried like 6 times this morning. Call me vain, but it’s so hard being a teenage girl with acne when all your friends, girls and guys, have clear skin.I don’t really know what the point of this is. Maybe just a rant. Idk but all I know is I’m not okay right now.

[Personal] Stick with a routine that is working for you, however slowly. It can make all the difference!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
As we are coming up on the end of the year, I wanted to share my thoughts on skincare as it's my first year really understanding products/ingredients and working hard to learn how to properly take care of my skin. I am going to list out my routine, with personal reviews and some notes on why I chose/did not choose to stick with certain things, and what has worked best for me.My routine (skin type is combo, can be much more oily in the summer and drier in the winter and since it is winter here I have to use a bit more product to keep my skin hydrated):Morning:Cleanse with La Roche Posay Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser- I had initially listened to advice to just rinse with water in the morning and go into the rest of my routine, but I found that my acne and stubborn CC's were still persisting despite the acids I used in my routine at night. That's why I added this into my routine a couple of months ago and it has made a huge difference for me! I can tell the cc's are starting to fade, but it is a very slow process.Thayer's Unscented Witch Hazel - I have tried a couple of their scented ones (aloe and rose water) and have found that unscented products, however natural or unassuming they may seem, have probably affected my skin more than I realized. I know some have said Thayer's is harsh for them but it works well for me, doesn't leave my skin feeling tight or dry and is good for getting any leftover product off from cleansing/removing my makeup at night.Hadalabo Gokujyun Premium Lotion - Japanese skincare products have made a huge difference for me. I like a lot of Korean skincare products as well, but many of them have scents that just irritate my skin. What's great about this brand is that their products are very soothing for my skin with no scent and are cheap and basic but get the job done so well. I started with the non-premium version of this product earlier this year and that worked for the summer, but because I need more hydration in the winter, I bought the premium to try and it really creates a smooth hydrated base for my makeup to go on. I don't need primer anymore and I believe a lot of the reason is because I added this product in. Sometimes I do two coats of this, and sometimes I use this at night after an acid peel because I find that it's very soothing and hydrating.I moisturize next and honestly this is the least solid part of my routine, I don't think I have truly nailed down my am moisturizer because I often just use my PM, Cerave PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion. I have been working 2 jobs at 70 hours a week for the past few months so have not had time to really land on a moisturizer I like for the morning (as I have cycled through a number of them this year), but truthfully the cerave works just as well as anything else, and just because it's marketed for pm doesn't mean it can only be applied then.Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+/PA++++ - This was the first sunscreen I tried and honestly I haven't tried another because it works well enough for me, does not pill (I just have to give it enough time to sit after putting it on, 5-10 minutes works well enough before applying makeup), doesn't feel drying or leave a white cast, and is pretty cheap. Sunscreen was one of the first things I added in to my routine per the advice of this sub, and while I believe it seems like it has the least noticeable effect on my skin, the protection is still there, and if anything I think it not only protects, but helps my skin to heal better as well. After all this I apply my makeup, which finally applies smoothly and looks good! I asked a friend with fantastic skin last year how she makes her makeup look so smooth and glossy and she was like, "honestly, it's the skin underneath it. If you're putting makeup onto bumpy/acne scarred skin it's still going to show to some degree." I had never even thought about that, I had started to wear makeup at 27 and did not understand proper skincare at all, I just thought makeup could fix it. Turns out I wasn't washing properly, was using harsh chemicals on my skin without understand how to care for it, and wasn't moisturizing enough or using sunscreen. Her comment was one of the catalysts for me to start pursing skincare and I'm glad she was honest about it.Evening:Hadalabo Gokujun Cleansing Oil - My first oil cleanser was actually Innisfree Apple Seed Cleansing Oil, which worked well but when I wanted to eliminate as much fragrance as possible I knew I had to look at other options. That's why I fell back on the brand I knew was working well for me and bought the hadalabo cleansing oil - and it has certainly helped. My skin is less irritated and this oil works just as well.Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser - I think gel cleansers work well for me because it's a little less drying than some others. I bought the Hadalabo Foaming Cleanser to replace this with once I ran out because I really love the brand, but I read that foaming cleansers can be drying - I'll be saving it to try when the weather starts warming up but for now this product works very well for me, feels nice and I don't feel the need to change it at this point.Thayer's Witch Hazel Unscented to remove any makeup/soap residue. As a note - I was shocked by how much products was left on my face when I started getting into skincare. I had cleansed with face wipes or Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser for sensitive skin - turns out I didn't have sensitive skin, just terrible skincare. When I started double cleansing and toning I realized that so much of my acne problems were caused right here in the cleansing step and from not properly removing dirt/makeup from the day.An acid is next in my routine, and that can change depending on the day. I had been alternating between Stridex in the red box and an aha - (I had also tried Paula's Choice 2% BHA first before Stridex and while it worked, I don't think it worked as well as Stridex). However, there are some irritating additives in the Stridex red box that I believe caused me irritation and redness - probably the menthol, so I decided to cut out the Stridex and stuck only to The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution and it has worked out really well for me. My face is smoothing out and my acne breakouts are much better. I don't feel the need to change or cycle acids every other day anymore.Kikumasamune Sake High Moisture Skin Lotion Toner - At the beginning of the year I was watching a Japanese NHK program which happened to be on sake production, and they talked about how people who work in the sake factories had fantastic skin - turns out a lot of the byproducts of the fermentation process that hang in the air are also great for skin - and after seeing that I did some research and found a skincare line that was produced by a sake company, Kikumasamune. I bought their toner to try and never looked back - my skin glows because of this product and it really helps to heal and hydrate it.Moisturizing is the final step for me of course, and a few months ago I wanted to add some of those delicious ceramides in. A lot of choices I have made have come from this sub and talking about certain ingredients that are good for this or that on your skin - hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, etc. Turns out the Cerave PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion has all 3! And it's worked really well for me. I also mentioned above that I often use it in the am.I also went to Sephora about a month ago and got samples of the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream and I still have some and will sometimes apply this at night - I don't think it clogs my pores and is very hydrating for my winter skin. I think in the summer it would be a bit much, but I am considered rotating my Cerave to the AM exclusively and buying a tub of this for the PM, at least for the winter.A few months ago I was becoming very happy with my routine, but believed that stubborn cc's and breakouts still occurring on my cheeks and jawline could be helped by a stronger product. I bought The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution and twice a week I use this in place of any other acid for the night. This product has been truly marvelous for me - my skin is so much smoother and my acne kept at bay with it. My stubborn cc's are also disappearing, but it is taking quite awhile to really clear them. This is why I want to stress the importance of sticking to a routine - I often read on this sub about people who have miracle products that seemingly clear their skin overnight - while that's great I don't think that's the norm. Skincare is work and your skin requires time to heal and adapt. I also struggle with pie/pih and redness/spotting from acne can take months to go away completely. You simply cannot rush that process. Some of us heal quicker than others (lucky!) but my skin bruises/marks up easily and is fairly light, so unfortunately any trauma to it lasts awhile. Because I was still getting acne, when any pie/pih would finally fade it would be replaced by another round from another breakout. Finally, FINALLY, my skin, with a proper routine and sticking to it even when I am frustrated, is healing and I am not breaking out nearly as much as I used to, which is allowing time for the pie/pih to fade without being replaced by some other irritation. Also, and I can't stress this enough - stop picking!!! This is something I struggle with SO much, as I have very bad anxiety and I definitely pick at my face a ton to relieve it. When I can feel a pimple forming now, I don't try to squeeze it out, where as before I would pick at anything before it even came to a head - I spot treat with a simple benzoyl peroxide drug store cream and let it be. 9/10 times it will fade away before coming to a head now. If it does come to a head, I try to gently extract it and then use Peace Out Acne dots, which are medicated and have made a huge difference in clearing acne faster and with less redness than I had before. Some products that have been left by the wayside (that I didn't mention above):The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - This is a product I actually thought was working for me for awhile. Recently I dropped the applicator on the floor and the bottle sat out uncovered for a few days (working 70 hour weeks, haven't really been giving cleaning up proper attention) and so now I won't be using the bottle, but because of that I have a noticeable reduction in redness and I think my jawline is breaking out less - either it's this product, or it is unnecessary to begin with and thus not worth buying anymore anyway.Drunk Elephant Protini moisturizer - I got samples at this at Sephora a few times and really liked it, but truthfully I think DE is a lot of hype for a lot of money and I have managed to find a routine that works for me and is overall relatively cheap all things considered. This does not work any better than other cheaper products for me and thus isn't worth the investment.Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin - I said before that I thought I had sensitive skin for years since I was a teenager, but given all the acids I use and the fact that my face has never had a really bad reaction from any skincare product I have tried, I am concluding that it was a terrible understanding of proper skincare that was the cause. My first acne product as a kid was this awful benozyl peroxide cream that dried and crusted on my face and stained all my pillow cases - I wouldn't wash my face, would just put this on, and never moisturized - my mom had taken me to a derm and they prescribed this with no other guidance. This went on for years. I stopped using the cream but continued to get these red, dry itchy patches on my cheeks and horrible acne. All of this is completely gone after a whole year of trial and error, and it is sad that it took me 31 years to get here, but I'm so happy I put in the work.Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel - I so badly wanted this product to work for me to soothe my redness, but I really think it makes me break out, and I truly don't have bad reactions to most products. I will very occasionally use this if I have a particularly irritated routine that night (acid peel or the like, as the soothing feeling is quite noticeable) - but I almost certainly will get a pimple or two on my cheeks or jawline. I don't know if it's the aloe, this particular product, or what, but as I altered other parts of my routine to adjust for the redness/irritation I was having, I don't really need this anymore anyway.Melano CC Vitamin C Essence - This was one of the first things I tried adding in when I found this sub - and it's possible I did not give it enough time, plus the rest of my routine wasn't fleshed out - but I dropped it pretty quickly. I know vitamin c is a product raved about here for a number of reasons, and I do want to give it another go now that my skin is more stable, but I just haven't gotten around to it.Pixi Glow Tonic - I dropped this one not because it didn't work (it did), but just because I found it didn't work well enough. It was a great introductory acid for me and I made the jump up to higher percentage acids, but by no means is this a bad product. I just needed something stronger. Also, good riddance face wipes from my routine, which I will only use in an absolute pinch if I can't access my skincare products and am feeling particularly nasty. Less waste, less irritation, no more scrubbing at my skin to get product off!And on that note I will also say I tried Proactiv Renewing Cleanser, which is grainy and I thought was helping/exfoliating my skin, but really I think it was just irritating. This was one of the first acne products I tried and honestly it just created itchy dry patches on my face. I cut any type of psychical exfoliation out, from products that were grainy/had exfoliants to actual physical exfoliant face pads - and my skin thanks me for it. I do think benzoyl peroxide is a good acid for me, but effaclar cleanser has been so less irritating and helpful than proactiv or a harsh drying cream.By no means do I think I am completely finished, I am sure there are things here and there I will discover that work really well for me, but overall I am so thrilled at where I am. I still get acne occasionally, still am not completely 100% happy with my face (struggling still with leftover pih and some scarring is bothersome, but it's healing well enough that makeup is starting to cover it better and better), and I'm happy that the majority of the products I use are pretty cheap when I consider some of the more costly products out there. What sucks is the initial investment into skincare can be pretty costly, especially when trying to find the right products and trying out a number of different ones, so take advantage of samples where you can, and start with drug store brands if you have to! So many of them work just as well as those with higher price tags. So when I say stick to a routine, if you find something that is working, give it time. That's the best advice I can give - skincare is a process, give your skin time to adjust and have a little patience! And you're all beautiful, please be kind to yourself. Thank you to this sub for all the help over this past year of my journey!YMMV and all that but these are my thoughts. Happy Holidays and New Year's y'all!

[Routine Help] Vitamin C or Azelaic Acid for PIE/red acne marks?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve been on tretinoin 0.025% cream for about a month now, and only recently upped to every two days now. I’m nearing the end of the purge which was admittedly not as bad as I expected. Most of the acne that did crop up had little pigmentation after popping.I want to introduce either Vit C or Azelaic Acid to work on past PIE marks which aren’t seeing as much improvement as I want with tret. I don’t want to buy and add both right now since I don’t want to go too overboard with the actives. However, I’m not sure exactly how to introduce either one without irritating my skin too much. Would I put it on before tret, put them on only in the morning, switch off days between tret and the other active, or something else?I’m looking into either Melano CC for the Vit C or the Melazapam for the Azelaic Acid, so I’m interested in hearing other people’s experiences with tret + either of these, like which one showed fastest results, least irritation, etc. But I’m also open to other product recommendations!AM:Rinse face with waterA few light layers of Cerave Daily Moisturizing LotionCotz Senseitive Mineral SunscreenPM:Cerave Hydrating CleanserTretinoin (every two days)BHA - Stridex Pads (once a week, never same day as tret)Light layers of Cerave Daily Moisturing LotionI know I definitely need to up the hydration and moisture lol. I think so far it’s enough to keep my skin calm-ish without breaking out, but I still get a bit oilier throughout the day. Definitely not good long term. I’m planning on buying Hado Labo Gokujyun Premium along with either the Vit C or Azelaic. Also, I have oily skin, and it usually takes months to a year for my PIE to fade. Thank you, and happy holidays to everyone!Edit: sorry about the formatting, on mobile so not sure if its looks weird or not.

[Skin Concerns] Hard keratin plugs below mouth
Beauty Tips For Body Care
M21, I don't get inflamed acne, rather I get these skin colored bumps which hold like a solid seed inside, there's no pus, when the seed is removed there's usually some dark pigmentation left behind. The only place this occurs is the facial hair area below my mouth, I can grow my facial hair above the lip and cheeks yet I do not get these bumps there, purely below the mouth. I'm wondering if this is linked to my KP on my arms and this is a manifestation of it below the mouth? Would a urea cream help?

[Hair Removal] Weird bumps on my crotch? WARNING: NSFW!! Kinda gross?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I used to do this thing where I would pluck the hairs from my no-no area because, heck, it was the most efficient out of all hair removal methods (at least for me). Yeah, well, since I didn’t practice proper aftercare, I started getting a lot of ingrown hairs which my dumbass thought would be a great idea to pop.So after a few explosions of puss, I was left with three unsightly bumps on my crotch that I hide shamefully with a bandage during sex. Here’s an image (I’m so sorry for burning your eyes) https://imgur.com/a/7ynovtESo, basically here’s how I got them: - I plucked my pubes - got ingrown hairs - popped said ingrown hairs - got these weird bumps that didn’t leave even after 8 months - got impatient and tried to cut the larger one off... twice. - am now posting on reddit because desperationWhat I’ve done in an attempt to get rid of them: - daily Kojic acid cream - sugar scrub every night - witch hazel toner - tried to cut them off twice; not very funHelp?? :’) how do I get rid of them? (I’m not sure as to what qualifies as an ‘identify’ post, but if this breaks the rules, please tell me and I’ll take it down)

[Acne] What do you do with pimples that takes a month/ months to go away?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
These three pimples has been on my face for a month, the head never shows up and I already did everything I could, from using an ice, sulfur spot treatment, adapalene to using antibiotics. This isn't the first time this ever happened. Most of my pimples are cystic and it's making me impatient to wait for a month until it goes away...then wait for another 2 months for the scar to fade away.

[skin concerns] trying to get rid of a raised bump on the nose
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So i have a raised bump on the side of my nose has been there for quite a few years now and I’m currently trying to use a salactic acid based face wash every 3 days and a gycolic acid toner every other dayI also use differen gel every few days and I’m still not seeing any progress really. I’ve probably been using this routine for around a few weeks now.Any advice? Would it be wise to go to see a skin specialist?

Is there a way to treat pitted acne scars without treatments like laser or microdermabrasion? [Skin Concerns]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I just had this pimple by my lip now, and it took like a week to go away. Thankfully it’s finally gone & I don’t know why I got it cause I never get pimples in that area. However, the area is somewhat pitted in certain lighting now. Not like a traditional icepick scar, it’s like a half centimeter diameter of a oval that is just deeper than the rest of my skin, if that makes sense.I also went through a bad phase of acne during these past few months, due to very high levels of stress. It has finally calmed down & I’m mostly focusing on treating PIE, but I do have some acne scars that are the same sort as the one by my lip (just a small area of noticeably lowered skin in certain lighting)I got some Christmas & birthday money. I was wondering if there was any topical treatments that worked for anyone before I start looking into laser treatment and others of the sort. Please help SCA! Thank you and I hope everyone is having a merry christmas

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I finally put some work into my skin and have been seeing big payoffs! Not perfect, not "no concealer" ready, but still so much better.TOs niacinamide and zinc and nexcare acne patches have helped me a lot. TO with texture, patches with getting rid of bumps before I could pick at them and make things worse. My goal for the upcoming year is to keep up with my routine but also... Eat less sugar! I think sugar and carbs really screw things up when I have too much. So... Less sugar and in moderation

[Personal] I avoided cetearyl alcohol and my skin is LOVING IT
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For a while, I had been suspecting that CeraVe was breaking me out. Someone gave me a tip to check the ingredients. I quickly learned that or contains cetearyl alcohol; something that apparently breaks some people out. I decided to avoid cetearyl alcohol in my skincare to check if it was breaking me out, too.I quickly found out that ALL MY SKINCARE had cetearyl alcohol in it. My day/night cream, cleanser, sunscreen.. It took me hours of research to finally be able to find my new, cetearyl alcohol free, routine. It has definitely helped my skin! So far I’ve only had two small pimples, which disappeared very quickly. My skin is soft and calm! The only thing I’ve noticed is that I have some closed comedones on the sides of my nose, but that might be because I put Vaseline around my nose because it was dry #winter.Routine and pictures of today down below (I literally pose the same way in every photo, it was the “theme of the day”). Tips are welcome!:Pics: https://ibb.co/fXmGLV0AM: Clinique anti-blemish foaming cleanser, Kruidvat Tea Tree day- and night cream, Avène sunfluid SPF50+ sensitive skin.PM: Same as AM minus sunscreen and instead of that Tretinoin 4 times a week. End with Vaseline on lips, under eyes and on dry/healing spots on face.

[Routine Help] Found products I love! But the order is baffling.

Perfecting the routine -- can't seem to figure out the right order! (Pics included)Hi all! Here is the group of products I have. I have an idea of the order but I would love some comments on what others believe the perfect order to be. I researched this a lot on my own, but any advice is very much welcomed and appreciated. [Routine Help] Trying to fade my PIE and results seem to have plateaued - what can I add in to push past this stage?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Skin Type: Oily, prone to acne, PIE/PIH, and dehydrationI have a ton of PIE left over from mild acne which has thankfully now mostly cleared, which I've been trying to fade all year with limited success. I introduced TO's 23% Vitamin C about 2 months ago and was initially really impressed with the results after just a couple of weeks, but now the effects seem to have just... stopped.Has anyone else experienced this kind of "fading plateau", so to speak? If so, how did you get past it and are there any products you can recommend? (Please note I have previously tried azelaic acid of multiple strengths and had zero success with it, so I don't think that's an option). Current routine is:AM:- Wash face with water- Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion- TO Niacinamide + Zinc- COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence- COSRX Oil Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion- La Roche Posay SPF 50 Shaka FluidPM:- Banila Clean It Zero original cleansing balm- Hada Labo Gokujyun Foaming Cleanser- COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid / TO Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% (alternate nights, 20-30 min wait)- Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion (2 layers)- COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence (2 layers)- COSRX Oil Free Ultra Moisturizing LotionExtras:- AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution (once a week at night, in place of the AHA or Vitamin C)- COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask (at the end of my nighttime routine, only on days when I feel dehydrated)

Time to give up on Differin? [Skin Concerns]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve been using Differin/ Adapalene 0.1% for almost 2 years after a terrible breakout that it successfully cleared! After experimenting with acids earlier this year I compromised my skin barrier and had to take a break from Differin after it would leave my face, red irritated and bumpy and my eyes red and swollen.Any attempt to use Differin after my skin had completely healed has resulted in me getting extremely red irritated and swollen skin around the outer corners of my eyes and patches of red, dry itchy skin around my face. Have I developed a sensitivity to it?I always follow Dr Dray’s advice to use moisturiser beforehand as well as Vaseline around sensitive areas and this has not prevented it. I’m still breaking out badly after stopping regular use of Differin. What should I switch to instead?

[acne] A few questions about spiro
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi,Apologies in advance for length/mobile formatting. Also, Merry Christmas!BACKGROUND I've been seeing my current derm since May for mostly hormonal acne/fungal acne. My skin type is very oily in summer, oily-combo in winter, and I live in a dry desert climate. I am a long-time CeraVe lover and use that in combination with Finacea, which has helped. I was on a 5 month course of the antibiotic minocycline, which ended in November, which also helped a bit with suppressing acne.Nothing ever really worked for me the way birth control did, I was on it from March 2016-August 2018 but then had to switch to an IUD for other reasons. But man, did that stuff regulate my skin.My derm won't prescribe me isotretinion until we've exhausted all other options because my acne is rarely cystic, much more whiteheads than anything. But she will consider it if nothing else works to 90% clear it since so far my skin has been quite stubborn.I am thinking of going back in the new year to ask for spiro, since so much of my skin is caused by stress. Currently on holiday right now and everything has calmed right down, compared to finals season a few weeks ago. I just had a few (dozen) questions about spiro and this community's experiences on it.•are you on it indefinitely or is it a cycle?•how long is a cycle? Do you do multiple cycles?•if once the cycle is done, does your skin stay clear or do you have to be on it forever for your skin not to revert back?•any mental side effects? Birth control was a real doozy.•any physical side effects that you didn't expect?•is there anything you can't do while on spiro? I keep thinking of isotretinion but I don't think it's quite as intense as that.Thank you all!

[personal] my mental health is so much better following my skincare routine
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Firstly, merry Christmas everyone! :)I know this might seem odd, but because my skincare routine has really helped my skin and cleared it up, my mental health is improving. I have anxiety and it makes me feel more organized and productive and like I have something under control. It helps my self confidence and I am 16 and have a job tutoring 4 clients in math and have saved up for all of my skincare products. Idk it just makes me feel good to be able to buy my own routine.Just had to tell someone. Better skin really does help your mood. I can finally go without foundation!

[Product question] Sqaulane: sugarcane sourced -VS- Olive/and or sugarcane sourced (e.g. Ordinary). Notice any difference in acne /clog prone skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had a terrible experience with olive oil years back and have stayed away since. I have been using Jojoba oil for over a decade and rosehip oil for 3 ish years. They both have their benefits but did nothing for my closed comedones. Supposedly the Ordinary uses either sugarcane or olives as the source for their Squalane, whatever's cheaper in season, to keep their prices low.Has anyone with clog prone skin tried the sugarcane only based brands of squalane and noticed a positive difference vs the olive based kind? Looking for a one ingredient emollient (oil) that is FA safe and won't clog pores/induce breakouts. What have been your experiences?

[personal] my skin finally looks somewhat okay!!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I need to tell someone bc I'm truly so happy rn.I have had awful texture on my skin for a few years, my face has been raw, thin, dry and irritated. I thought I had just destroyed my moisture barrier by not knowing how to treat my skin and following a routine designed by Satan himself. I was using physical exfoliation daily, stripping cleansers, no moisturiser, putting toothpaste on my face etc. After I learned about skincare I changed my routine and loaded up on all the good stuff and started to baby my skin. But nothing helped, I seriously tried everything and nothing really made a difference. That was until I talked to my derm and she suggested to apply my eczema cream (Protopic) that I use on my arms on my entire face. I did that and seriously my face hasn't felt or looked this normal in years! I had no idea my issue was eczema and not just my moisture barrier. It's nowhere near perfect and I'm still dry and dehydrated but the raw feeling, bumpy texture and roughness are gone. Hopefully now that my skin has started to heal and inflammation has started to go away my creams and lotions can do their job properly. Yay!!!

[acne] does anyone get sad or frustrated with their acne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
like recently ive been feeling like crap and i really want to vent about how i hate my skin at the moment but i just can’t seem to express it. my dermatillomania just makes it worse and yes im trying to improve on it but i can’t seem to get any major major results. in the beginning of the month my skin wasn’t so bad and it looked pretty ok but then 2 days ago i woke up to flare ups on my left check but my right cheek and forehead stayed the same. i picked at a few textures bumps the night before but ive picked like this before and i didnt wake up to anything serious as this so i was kind of shocked. the day after it just got worse and today it’s rlly bad. like some of pimples have calmed down a little but there’s like scarring and uneven skin tone and it’s driving me insane
