Beauty Tips For Body Care
I feel like this is something that could definitely be discussed more often on this sub. So often, it seems like everyone on this sub, both those giving advice and those receiving it, tend to think that the common advice and knowledge on this sub is the law. Spoiler alert: it’s not. The simple fact of the matter is, any advice you’re given on this sub is being given to you by untrained non-professional strangers on the internet, more than likely parroting advice they’ve learned from other untrained non-professionals. That’s not to say that most of the advice on this sub isn’t scientifically sound and well-researched, because it is, but like anything else it should absolutely be taken with a grain of salt. If you use something that this sub generally hates and gets downvoted to the pits of hell, but you love it and your skin looks and feels great with it, fantastic! keep using it if you want to, you don’t have to go immediately burn it just because this sub tells you to. You don’t have to go shell out hundreds of bucks building up a 17 step routine full of nothing but the greatest holy grails this sub has ever seen. If washing your face with shampoo and slapping on the same lotion you use on your ass works for you, and you can’t be bothered to have much of an actual routine, keep doing what you’re doing. Hell, if you have tons of acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and eczema out the wazoo and just don’t want to put in all the effort to ‘fix’ them, don’t.And the same goes for giving advice on this sub, too. No one is under any type of obligation to follow the advice you give. If someone wants to continue using something that’s full of irritants and might be bad for their skin, they are allowed to. It’s not your job to make people fix their skin in nothing but ways that are deemed acceptable in this sub. If someone knows that what they’re doing might be bad for them and they choose to continue to do so, the consequences are entirely on them and nothing you can do or say is going to force anybody to change. Not everyone is going to go crazy for CeraVe and LRP and The Ordinary and that’s ok. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve heard someone say ‘you have to do this’ or ‘you need to do that’ in regards to advice. And even with the absolute best of advice, literally no one needs or has to do anything you say. Goes without saying that not following certain advice (like wearing sunscreen while using actives) is a pretty terrible idea, but even still they don’t have to do anything you say.Overall, it just seems like everything on this sub gets taken way too seriously at times. I’ve literally seen people get into hours long arguments and even cyber bullying over things like face washes. It feels like people on here tend to forget that this is just a subreddit and it is just a hobby for most of us and that the vast majority of skincare is purely cosmetic and not at all necessary. Don’t get this wrong, I’m not advocating for anyone to do terrible things to their skin. But maybe we all need to take a step back and remember that none of this is that deep, and that you should do whatever you want to, and what makes you feel better and makes you happy, regardless of what anyone else says. Also let’s maybe just be a little less uptight about everything and a little nicer to each other, agreed?
