[Haul] New purchases from T.J. Maxx
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I went to T.J. Maxx a couple of hours ago. I walked in thinking "I need some sheet masks, a body moisturizer, and smallish gold hoop earrings," and, of course, walked out with.......... many things. Dare not walk into T.J. Maxx with intentions. #canthelpbuthaulI think I did an okay job of sussing out good from bad, but you can be the judge of that.I'm listing each product along with the reason I bought it.PLEASE share your thoughts/experiences with any/all of these products:Dr. Jart+ Soothing Hydra Solution (5 pack) - I tried this in a mixed collection of DJ+ sheet masks and loved it. Pretty much anything DJ+ agrees with my skin. I usually do a sheet mask once a day.Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Facial Barrier Mask (5 pack) - same reason as aboveDr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution (5 pack) - same reason as aboveTONYMOLY I'm Avocado Mask Sheet (10 pack) - never tried it before, but the other sheet masks were mostly those "dermatological" knock-off Strivectin-resembling brands and they scare me. Was also super cheap.CALA Sea Salt Moisturizing Foot Masks (3 pack) - never tried it, BUT is probably one of those things that only works while you're using it/for about 20 minutes after. Please tell me I'm wrong.LANEIGE Water Sleeping Mask (70 mL) - have tried it. I wanted to hate this so so so so much (lots of reasons why, mostly totally unfounded), but I recently finished a tub of it and have been looking for another. I'm on my 3rd month of tret and just went up to 0.06% so my face needs hydration. I love how this mask seals in the rest of my skincare. I wake up with glowy, plump skin.Grown Alchemist Intensive Body Cream (500 mL) - never tried it. I've heard good things about the brand, but not specifically about this cream.Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Deep Moisture Express Body Mist (6.7 oz) - never tried it. sometimes I am reeeeeally lazy.Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm (5.5 oz) - never tried it, but someone literally posted about it today on SCA and there were fave reviews in the comments. I'm such a sucker.HANI x HANI White Intensive Gold & Snai Eye Ampoule (1.76 oz) - never tried it, but the ingredient list looked okay (to my relatively untrained eye) and you can also use it all over your face. Also, my skin loves anything snail.Winky Lux Dream Gelee Moisturizing Face Gel (1.75 oz) - never tried it. Sodium Hyaluronate is the 5th ingredient, though. For reference, my skin type is normal/dry, skin concerns are redness, dryness, evenness, and acne, and skin goals are to not have those concerns ;)My current skincare routine is:AMWash face with waterVitamin C (Rohto Melano)Moisturizing essence (Cosrx Advanced Snail Mucin or Hado Labo Gokujyun Premium)Moisturizer (CeraVe or Cosrx Advanced Snail All in one Cream)Sunscreen (EltaMD)PMWash face with cleanser + washclothWait until dryTretinoin (I also have "other actives" days where I use azelaic acid and off days, depending on how my skin feels)Moisturizing essence (Cosrx Advanced Snail Mucin or Hado Labo Gokujyun Premium)Moisturizer #1Moisturizer #2Sleeping pack (Cosrx Rice Overnight Spa Mask but will now be switching to Laneige Water Sleeping Cream)

[Miscellaneous] ENT consultant has requested I stop using vaseline on my face. Serious concerns over using vaseline as an occlusive and potential lipoid pneumonia.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
After suffering through dry skin over winter, I began applying a thin layer of vaseline over my moisturiser at night. I sleep on a silk satin pillow which is left with a very light coating of vaseline in the morning.During an follow-up appointment with my ENT consultant (planning for septoplasty), I was asked if I use any prescription topical products that could affect healing. I responded that I use tretinoin and azelaic acid daily. When asked how I managed sensitivity, I mentioned I use moisturiser and vaseline. This is when I was told that vaseline should not be used anywhere where close inhalation can occur (face, pillow) and that as I'm sleeping, even with a light layer of vaseline, I'm inhaling small particles of vaseline that, over time, will accumulate in the lungs to form lipoid pneumonia. This is not a concern if vaseline is used occasionally but frequent use (i.e., daily) can lead to accumulation.Shockingly, I was told that it can be 'symptomless' and that accumulation over a decade can be shown using precise scanning of the lungs (I think he mentioned a mri or CT?).Since stopping vaseline every night, I've noticed I can breathe marginally better than before. Although I now have dry skin to contend with.Is there a viable alternative to vaseline that is occlusive but safe for long-term use?

[acne] tip: never look at your face up close in super strong overhead lighting
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Just don't do it. You will be able to see every tiny imperfection in your skin and it will make even slightly raised bumps look much more noticeable than they really are. I used to think I had really bad skin because I would do this and I would mention a bump I thought was really noticable to a friend, and they would say they didn't even notice it at all. Once I started looking closer at other people's faces I noticed I actually had pretty average skin

[Research] Dr Dray said tretinoin can turn pre-cancerous cells back to normal healthy cells. Any sources?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
In one of her YouTube videos, Dr Dray said that most sunlight damage occurs in childhood – and such damage is cumulative. Sure. However, she also mentioned that UV damage results in the formation of "dormant" (my understanding) pre-cancerous cells that can become cancerous later in life. She said, however, that tretinoin can allegedly reverse this and instruct the pre-cancer cells to turn back into normal healthy cells. Is there any research proving this? Apart from some vague cancer prevention, I could not find anything that specifically mentions tretinoin could undo UV damage and stop dormant cancer.PS: I can't link the video wherein Dr Dray mentioned this as I just remember her saying this – but she speaks about sunscreens and tretinoin in basically every video of hers and since she uploads daily (still can't grasp how she manages to do that), I can't find the video wherein she specifically mentioned this.

[misc] stubborn whiteheads and redness
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Idk if it’s hormonal or what but recently I’ve been getting a crazy amount of whiteheads and I’ve just added the Paulas choice bha into my routine. The bha deffo has been helping but some of the whiteheads are so deep and the congestion is rlly annoying me. I’ve tried steaming, using aha and bhas but the more stubborn ones are not budging.I’d love to have a smooth face for once and the whiteheads are honestly my biggest problem. Also any product to help with redness. TIA!!

[Routine Help] What are big No-s in skin care routine? Where do one start?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am brown skinned. I don’t have acne but I have hyper pigmentation. I also got tanned like hell in a recent trip. My arms and face are significantly darker than rest of the body.I want to get into a good routine. I started bathing twice a day. Applying sunscreen in the morning even if I’m not going out. After shower I moisturise. I also apply almond or coconut oil all over neck and crotch area to keep it moisturised. Is this is big no?What else should I be doing? Face cleaners? Needed if I’m showering twice a day already? Moisturisers? Should I be looking at something with aloe or Shea or any regular one is enough? Is it ok to oil hair daily? I don’t want to over load myself with tons of creams m lotions but I want to get into a good routine. I have no idea if I’m doing it right.

[Routine help] Questions on routine order and timing (read desc).
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, i have recently had an issue with my skincare routine building process as i have expanded into the world of skincare, serums and toners are a new concept to me aswell exfoliation and night routines. My first issue is not knowing when to apply these products and in what order regarding night and day routines, i will explain myself: So during a skincare routine we have six components; Cleanser, Moisturizer, Toner, Serum, Exfoliator and Sunscreen; I can not find solid material in the internet on what order these products should be used, to whether use it at night or during night and if use them once or twice. I'm trying to get the general idea but i can not find an article that points out these issues, so i decided to put myself in contact with fellow skincare addicts on reddit to find my answer. Thanks a lot for reading this and i'll appreciate if you leave a comment or support this post my upvoting it so i can find my answer.

[Routine help] Body acne & eczema
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi! I am new to this sub and have found everything here immensely helpful! I just recently booked my wedding for next February and have already found a dress (yay!). While I don’t typically struggle with face acne, I do struggle with body acne. For my wedding, I’m most concerned about my chest acne (would also love to solve my buttne but luckily that won’t be visible!). I’m also concerned about eczema that I’ve developed on my hands since the start of COVID (engagement pics were not cute...). I’ve made an appointment with my derm but it’s not until May 😩. Hoping you fine people can help in the meantime!A little more about me and my skincare concerns in a digestible format: - 29F, fair skin, US based - Dry skin, I think it’s also dehydrated, eczema, may also have rosacea (I blush/flush super easily, but I’m not sure if that’s just because I’m super sensitive to heat and easily embarrassed 😳) - current routine: honestly just wash my whole body with cetaphyl when I shower, follow it up with baby oil, then use Whole Foods lotion on my body and face. - for my eczema ridden hands I have tried everything, but it all makes my hands BURN, with the exception of Vaseline.I slather it on after the latest hand cream I’ve tried has left my hands in a STATE. - for my chest acne, I use spot treatments here and there but mostly just pop them (I’m probably horrifying you all by writing that!). Would love to know where I should start!Any help is greatly appreciated!ETA: I also weirdly get neck acne (but not really face). I think it might be hormonal but I need to pay more attention to when it shows up. Any recs for neck acne would also be helpful!

[misc] stay away from Olena Beley (narcissistic skin coach)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I mean has anyone seen this girls stories and content on Instagram? I just saw another Reddit thread about her almost $900 routine review service that completely ripped them off because it didn’t work and she stopped responding to them but even that aside, this girl is a classic narcissist. For starters, she believes that she INVENTED the idea of using a hydrating serum and then moisturizer on damp skin. No joke she is trying to trademark that she made this up. She tried to say way bigger dermatologist accounts who talk about that method copied her, which is comical. She thinks all these people (with way bigger following than her) are plagiarizing her even though it’s all common knowledge. She says food and hormones do not cause acne and anyone who says otherwise is dumb (she literally says that), if anyone ever disagrees with her even respectfully she will call them out in her stories and call them names such as “not well read, unintelligent, ignorant clown, dumb, stupid” etc. Now she’s been posting content saying diet culture does not exist. Which is just simply not true in my opinion, maybe I’m misunderstanding but either way, when someone tried to have a conversation with her abt it she just went on a tirade in her stories about how that person is a bad human being and saying who raised this person, they’re an ignorant clown. LOL. It’s actually comical because she’s literally verbally abusing someone for disagreeing with her while calling THEM the bad human being and asking who raised THEM... anyways, while she has had some good points about skincare, it’s nothing you can’t learn from other influencers who aren’t incredibly egotistical narcissists.

[PSA] I tried Stridex on the pits today and...
Beauty Tips For Body Care
It worked phenomenally. I didn’t wear any deodorant, and, as I line cook on the grill all day, I figured my test was the test to end all tests. I had my doubts but tonight after 9 hours of sweating, my husband (who had no idea what I did) was asked to smell my pits and he said he smelled nothing. I smelled nothing. Ladies and gents, salicylic acid is your new deodorant. Thank you to the wonderful person who put out the PSA yesterday- you just made my life so much easier!

[PSA] I'm here to tell you about how I have solved the dreaded stinky armpits.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Do you put on deodorant and by the end of the day have that pungent smell of B.O? Have you tried everything from clinical heavy duty deodorant to gentle natural soaps? Well, look no further for your stinky pit solution! I've been testing this for well over a month and it has been the best thing I've found that works.I use a 10% benzoyl peroxide wash morning and night, leave it on my under arms for a couple minutes while showering, this helps kill the odor causing bacteria.I then use dove sensitive deodorant (aluminum) at night, this give the aluminum time to plug the sweat glands which cause the odor as well. If your allergic to aluminium then you can still use the benzoyl peroxide as I do believe this is the star of the show here.I really hope this info helps some people out, if you use this method let me know if its helped you too!Edit: just want to leave this link here for anyone to read, there's no scientific evidence stating that antiperspirant deodorant causes cancer.https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/myths/antiperspirants-fact-sheet

[Misc] What do you think about Olena Beley's claims that she invented a popular moisturizing method
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So just to be clear; I have nothing against Olena Beley and I'm always encouraging women being credited for their work. I'm posting because I want to discuss this issue, not because I want people to harass her or anything of that sort. She is a YouTuber/Skinfluencer and she specifically posts about acne, in my humble opinion she gives pretty good advice. However, something always bothered me with her; she often claims that she literally invented the "trend" in skincare that consists of putting a humectant and after that, a moisturizer on your damp face. She trademarked it under the name "3 step moisture method". I don't mind protecting your work and the idea of using a trademark, but I'm bothered when you do so for something that you're not even sure you truly invented. Yesterday she posted a story on Instagram about it, because someone confronted her about that on her insta page, and she went on explaining quite aggressively that SHE invented this skincare trend and that other skinfluencers like Dr. Dray just copied her without crediting her (or at least, this statement is heavily implied in her stories). She uses as a "proof" that she started talking about this in 2017 while the other skininfluencers only started recently. Even if it's true, girl that doesn't mean you invented anything... I mean I found at least 2 scientific articles published before 2017 that mention moisturizing the face on damp skin... What do you guys think? I invite you to watch her stories from yesterday to fully grasp her arguments but of course don't hate on her please that is not the point.

Is skincare actually inaccessible to most? [MISC]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
There is a general consensus that luxury skincare is indeed out of most people's budget. But it seems very true that even "affordable" products such as TO and drugstore brands are expensive for a lot of people. Then there is the whole another sunscreen situation where you need a lot, but for many people it's hard to find one that is tolerable to wear.(Love or hate her) Dr.Dray said in one of her more recent videos that even "affordable" options she recommends are going to be too expensive for a lot of people. And when you factor in other resources like time, mental health, disposable income, bills etc. you start to see how even "accessible" is relative.I'm just talking random trash, please drop your thoughts in the comments if you have them. The video in question if anybody is curious.

Percentages of UV filters for European sunscreens (La Roche Posay, Bioderma, Avene, Ultrasun) [sun care]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
In the European Union it is not mandatory for sunscreen manufacturers to reveal the percentages of UV filters they are using, so it can be really tricky to find them.In light of the recent sunscreen scandals, some of us were claiming that the protection of these sunscreens could not really be as labelled on the packaging. The reason for that was the incredibly low concentration of filters. Many people were saying that this was not reason enough to discredit them, but it turned out that indeed, you cannot compensate for 5 times lower amount of UV filters by using formulatory tricks (that they never even claimed to).Anyway, of course you cannot tell the exact UV protection from the percentage of filters but you can get an idea of the level of protection. I believe it is very interesting.Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF50+ETHYLHEXYL SALICYLATE 5%ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE 4.5%BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE 4%BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE 3.5%DROMETRIZOLE TRISILOXANE 2%TEREPHTHALYLIDENE DICAMPHOR SULFONIC ACID 0.495%Bioderma Aquafluide SPF 50+OCTOCRYLENE 10%METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYLPHENOL [NANO] 6%BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE 5%BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE 2.5%Avene Very High Protection Dry Touch Fluid (blue line)METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYLPHENOL [NANO]: 7.00%BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE: 4.0%DIETHYLHEXYL BUTAMIDO TRIAZONE: 4.0%BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE: 2.0%Avene B Protect SPF 50+METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYLPHENOL[NANO]: 7.00%BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE: 4.0%DIETHYLHEXYL BUTAMIDO TRIAZONE: 4.0%BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE: 2.0%Ultrasun Face Fluid Brightening Anti Spot and Anti-Pollution (blue)DIETHYLAMINO HYDROXYBENZOYL HEXYL BENZOATE 2.4194%ETHYLHEXYL SALICYLATE 2.8844%ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE 2.1956%METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYLPHENOL (Nano) 3.134%BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE 2.8198%Ultrasun Extreme Very high protection sensitive skin (red)DIETHYLAMINO HYDROXYBENZOYL HEXYL BENZOATE 2.6555%ETHYLHEXYL SALICYLATE 3.1658%ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE 2.4098%METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYLPHENOL 3.4398%BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE 3.0949%Ultrasun Face Moisturising anti ageing sun protection (pink)DIETHYLAMINO HYDROXYBENZOYL HEXYL BENZOATE 1.3867%ETHYLHEXYL SALICYLATE 1.6532%ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE 1.2584%METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYLBUTYLPHENOL 1.7963%BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE 1.6162%Sunwards Baby SPF 50+ Very High Protection face – body creamDIETHYLAMINO HYDROXYBENZOYL HEXYL BENZOATE 8%METHYLENE BIS-BENZOTRIAZOLYL TETRAMETHYL BUTYLPHENOL 2.09%ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE 2%BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE 2%TRIS-BIPHENYL TRIAZINE 1.06%Sebamed Lip Defense SPF 30Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate 9%Ethylhexyl Salicylate 4.5%Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane 2%

[Routine help] lazy night routine
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've seen alot of posts demonstrating lazy night time regimes. I'd like to get into some routine especially since I want to include sunscreen daily. But. As someone who is depressed and adhd, its hard to muster up the will sometimes. It's harder cus my only bathroom sink has separate spouts for hot water and cold waler. Meaning I can only wash my face in the shower(I dont shower at night) or gather the energy to clear out the kitchen sink every night to use that. Which f*cking sucks and seems impossible. How do others deal with this, or have suggestions to make it easier

[product question] discontinued PC HQ
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Anyone else upset Paula’s Choice discontinued their “Triple-Action Dark Spot Eraser”? Apparently it was discontinued Nov 2020. It was one of the only OTC hydroquinone products that shipped to Canada. Also the only thing that helped with my melasma.Anyone have any recommendations for hydroquinone products that would be available to purchase in Canada?

[routine help] Skin barrier damage, where to go from here?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi. Basically, I was prescribed a topical antibiotic that included benzoyl peroxide in it, and tretinoin .025. I have been on these for a month and saw no significant sensitivity/damage. This week, I woke up and washed my face, used my antibiotic, then put on my moisturizer. As soon as I put on my moisturizer my face turned immediately tomato red, burned like hell, and was just horrible. I couldnt even put on my sunscreen in fear of it becoming more irritated. The entire day I sat with an ice pack on my face, yet it didn't get better. From research and what people have told me, I have barrier damage. Since my post in another skincare sub, I have stopped using tret and my antibiotic. I have been unable to reach my derm so I dont know what to do. The burning and sensitivity have subsided since I stopped using my tret and antibiotic.Right now, my routine consists of:Cerave foaming cleanserneurogena oil free sensitive moisturizerneutrogena dry touch sunscreenI really want to go back onto my antibiotic and tret as soon as possible as it was helping my acne so much. But, I want to fix my barrier first. I tried slugging with vaseline, but it caused more breakouts!! I CANNOT buy new products right now due to money, so I have to fix my barrier with the products I already have. Should I go back to slugging? How do I know that its a good time to return to my medication? And if I do, what should I do? My derm said to use the antibiotic every morning, and tret every other night. How would I reduce the timing of these so it doesnt damage me again? Should I buffer my tret with moisturizer? Please help!!

[Acne] I have acne almost exclusively on my shoulders and upper back
Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://i.imgur.com/AddwO9X.jpgIt started when I was in middle school and seems to come and go randomly, but it's been pretty bad for at least the past few months. It's like a bunch of dry red bumps that can be scratched off, I don't really get whiteheads there. At first I thought it was something to do with sweating, so I started washing my sheets once a week, sleeping without a shirt on, sleeping with a freshly washed shirt on, but none of it made a difference. I switched from bar soap to dove sensitive skin body wash, then to scrubbing the area with Neutrogena body clear, but none of this made a difference either. I remember Stridex pads used to help but I bought some recently and after a couple weeks I noticed no difference again.Am I just being too impatient? I feel like it could be my detergent, or washing my hair, but I'm unsure of what to do next. Also, my dad told me he used to get the same kind of acne when he was younger, so I think it could be a skin condition.

[Misc] Why has Hyram from youtube, won everyone over despite not being a dermatologist?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hes all over tik tok and youtube and he seems to be the one to go to for skincare for many people, but he's not a dermatologist or a aesthetician. So how do people know hes trustworthy? Im not hating or anything, im just curious on why everyone is going to him instead of an actual dermatologist who also has a youtube channel?

Looking for everyone’s holy grail hydrating masks! [misc]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Once a week I treat my hair to a deep conditioning mask and just leave it on for an hour or two and I want to combine that routine with a good wash off hydrating face mask to use weekly but need some recommendations!I’m not a fan of sheet masks, but would love something I could smear on and leave for like an hour that really provides hydration.

When people comment on your skin :( [personal]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I work in home health care and was with a client today. He was telling me about some symptoms he’s been having, and then goes what’s it like to be you? You’re young, all you have wrong with you is acne.Oof. So embarrassing. The mental impact of acne is awful. I know he was coming from a good place, unfortunately my mind heard it as I have something wrong with me due to my acne. I guess it does put it into perspective. Having acne is much more fortunate than other illnesses or disabilities. Sucks it’s so mentally draining, though. How do you guys deal with comments on your skin? I wish I could gain enough confidence to stop caring at all about how my skin looks or what other people think about it.

[personal] I learned that not doing much, or ANYTHING, for my skin is the best.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I’ve gone back and forth between testing and seeing how my skin is when using products (simple - cleanser, moisturizer, spf and not so simple - acids, serums etc) and found my skin is happiest when I do absolutely NOTHING... whaaaaaat? For reference, I have combo skin and uneven skin tone/hyperpigmentation/pores/closed comedones/redness you name itttt lol. But somehow... it all looks MUCH better when I only wash with water and not even use moisturizer or anything else. Adding SPF actually still makes it look just as better so I’m keeping that of course, but cleanser moisturizer acids etc just made it look redder and more..irritated?I feel like my skin is saying THANK YOU when I keep it simple with just washing with water AM and PM and SPF in the AM.This was my routine BEFORE:AMCetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion LRP anthelios SPF 50 (love this baby, been using for few months and seems to be good)PMGarnier micellar water (been using for a few months, don’t think it’s caused any irritation) cetaphil gentle skin cleanser Cetaphil Moisturizing lotionAs you can see, I wasn’t even doing much before lol. I meant to add an acid in for some dark spots, but noticed it’s fading pretty quickly WITHOUT doing anything...? Maybe it’s just my own skin, who knows. Still want to add the TO ascorbic acid+alpha arbutin in but debating between leaving it and adding it now.I suppose it could’ve been the cetaphils I’ve been using ALL THESE YEARS making my skin look not so good. I’ve tried Cerave Hydrating cleanser and it’s good too, but my Cetaphil moisturizing lotion stung after washing with the cerave. Kind of strange so I stopped. Also tried the LRP Toleraine. Nope, stung. Cetaphil Gentle skin cleanser was the only one that didnt sting for me and now I’m wondering if it’s also been the one causing my skin to not look so good all these years...If that’s the case, I’ll have to search for a better cleanser and moisturizer. Even gentler one lol. This was just my anecdotal experience. Maybe simpler IS better sometimes :) I know and understand it’s different for everybody though!:)(also, I’m a single mom so I don’t got much time lol)

[MISC] 2+ year tear duct milia FINALLY gone!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Milia is such a bitch, amiright?? A lot of suggestions in this sub include glycolic acid. Which DOES work for under eye milia or the eyebrow area. My milia was caused by heavy eye creams and as soon as I stopped no new ones appeared. But getting rid of the existing ones would be the bane of my existence!!!The one I had on my tear duct both my dermatologist and optometrist wouldn’t touch. I was so sad to have this burden! I thought everyone was looking at it lol. I tried dabbing glycolic and SA around it with a q-tip for MONTHS with no avail. I’ve picked at it a lot... I know... but hear me out. I’ve been picking at it gently this last week and then applying a warm q-tip. It grew. Shit. I continued applying q-tips that were dipped in hot water. Then this morning it was extremely dry after I got out of the shower and as I was about to put my contacts in I thought the milia looked bigger than ever so I sort of scratched at it (like you would if you were rubbing sleepy boogers out of your eye) and it sort of popped. And the smallest little bit came out! I had to actually grab a pair of tweezers and CAREFULLY extract the white hard bit out. Now it’s left a tiny pink mark but the milia is COMPLETELY GONE!!! I have been glaring at this thing for over 2 years and cannot believe it’s finally rid from my life. Lol. Anyone that has had a milia in their tear duct knows how annoying these things are. Here’s hope for other milia sufferers!

Favourite Retinol? [Product Question]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Now that I'm 30 I want to introduce a retinol into my skincare routine to help with some fine lines I'm noticing on my forehead. What is your favourite retinol? I have sensitive skin, I have a bit of hormonal acne and break out in the chin area but overall I don't tend to have too many breakouts. My current routine is: DHC oil cleanse (evenings), Soon Jung Relief Toner, Pyunkang yul toner, corsx snail mucin, The Ordinary (TO) Subq Skin, TO Ascorbyl glusocide (vitamin c), corsx cica cream, TO chia seed oil (evenings), elta MD sunscreen. I also use TO lactic acid 1x a week at night and then just follow with moisturizer.

[Acne] Applying SPF doesn’t cause me to breakout. But REAPPLYING makes me break out ??
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I use an SPF 50 daily, rain or shine, but during Winter I didn’t typically bother to reapply, since I was inside daily and it got dark at 4pm.However, now that Spring is approaching here and the evenings are getting longer, I want to start reapplying properly - and I have. The issue? My acne-targeting SPF which I love is now breaking me out when I’m reapplying.I wash my hands first, obviously, but it still causes breakouts. I think it’s a mixture of layering products, plus layering SPF on my skin which hasn’t been cleansed in 3/4 hours or more. How do you guys with acne-prone skin reapply SPF without causing more breakouts? My SPF was totally playing well with my skin until I started trying to apply it multiple times a day.I’ve tried googling for an answer but for some reason, it only gives me recommendations for acne-safe SPF. Not how to reapply.

Enough with the luxury skincare/fragrance bashing! [Meta]

[Skin Concerns] Can dehydrated skin give you acne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My forehead is as far as I can tell really dehydrated, there’s also a lot of small bumps/pimples on it. I have no idea why they’re there, the rest of my face is okay just the occasional pimple here and there. But my forehead is just full of them, I also have fungal acne but I cant do anything about it since nizoral makes my skin dry out more. What do you guys think I should do?

[misc] general tips i’ve learned that really help acne
Beauty Tips For Body Care
okay so i’ve struggled w acne for as long as i can remember, and i felt it would be helpful to compile some things i’ve noticed and others have noticed that help!!1.) don’t touch ur face unless you just washed ur hands- ur fingers and hands have germs that can transfer to ur face, causing breakouts. if u have to touch, wash first!2.) clean any pillow cases, blankets, etc atleast once a week! this helps a lot cuz oil from these things can transfer to ur face & body so it’s important to keep clean!3.) diet. diet really effects my skin, so i limit gluten, don’t eat dairy, and eat a pretty low amount of sugar. this helps w my skin & my mood i’ve noticed. also drinking water!4.) keep it simple w skincare. try to just do the bare minimum, allow ur routine to have a cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and i personally like tretinoin, but u can use any other active acne treatment to help ur skin concerns!5.) if ur acne is hormonal, look into birth control or spirolactone. these are hormonal treatments and help a lot!6.) If u wear makeup, please clean ur brushes atleast once a week! this will help so that dirt and oil don’t transfer from the brush to your face7.) last but deff not least, get enough sleep! i’ve noticed sleep helps w stress and skin!and those are my main tips!!!!!:)

[misc] What TonyMoly line is skincarebyhyram talking about when he claims that TonyMoly completely copied The Inkey List?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://youtu.be/I1HsypT3e2g in this video he discusses Korean skincare and ranks it (tl;dw he won’t even try a product that has fragrance in it and he was overly critical about everything. Based most of his opinions around his personal “philosophy” that he never elaborates on. Also, he defends three different sunscreens that had to get recalled because of the UV rating situation.). The time stamp where he discusses TonyMoly is 13:30. I can’t figure out what line he’s talking about. Wouldn’t be surprised if he has an undisclosed sponsorship with Inkey List and feels the need to bash their competitors. But if someone could help me, I’d appreciate it!

[product question] What kind of redness is azelaic acid supposed to help with?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Is it primarily meant for acne scars or something like that? My face always looks red and I flush super easily from many triggers, but even just baseline is fairly reddish all over, and not localized or scarred. I was super excited about the idea of something helping with this, but I’ve been using azelaic acid for a few months now, and there is zero improvement. If anything, my face is perhaps even more red. Do I just not have the type of redness this product is intended for? That would be a bummer. But it’s clearly not doing anything for me. Is there something else that can address the redness I have? I’d like to still feel hopeful about it!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Unlike acne which can be treated & prevented, they will always inevitably come back because they're natural, like hair or nail growth. Most ways to remove/extract them are either pore damaging or time consuming. They probably aren't even noticeable to most people & are completely covered when I wear makeup anyways. They aren't gross, everybody gets them.Has anyone else just decided to let them be?

[Sun Care] opinions about sunscreen and age-shaming
Beauty Tips For Body Care
After all the heated debate on my last post, I was curious to hear more about everyone’s opinions about sunscreen and how you use it. Here are some questions I’m posing that you can answer:Do you use sunscreen every day? Why or why not?Do you you re-apply during the day, even if you’re inside? Why or why not? It’s no secret that modern culture age shames, especially women. Do you think this creates a culture of fear and anxiety that may lead to a focus on skincare, like sunscreen? How do we rectify this? Please, keep the comments kind and respectful, no age-shaming of any kind and no putting down others on a respectful opinion that may not be the majority. I’m not sure why, but this sub can be negative, so let’s try to keep this a positive space!

[ACNE] What products helped your acne that are underrated/ not obvious?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
For me it was Pond’s Cold Cream!!I dealt with acne all through my teens and 20s and I used everything from Clean & Clear to the Murad acne line and never got great results. My grandmother always used Pond’s when I was growing up and had amazing skin so one day in my later 20s I picked some up and it was life changing. It went against everything I thought I knew about acne but ever since I started with cold cream I realized that anything marketed as acne treating, “lightweight,” or oil-free breaks me out. My best guess is my skin was starving/dehydrated. Now I get exactly 2 zits (always in the same place) the week before my period and that’s it.Now Pond’s is the only the only thing I use to remove my makeup and a bonus is it’s SUPER easy. Just as easy as using a wipe. If I’m not wearing makeup I use a milk jelly cleanser like Glossier or Drunk Elephant.Anyone else have underrated products for acne?? I love trying new ones.

List the brands you find overpriced/overhyped [MISC]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'll start:HerbivoreSunday RileyKate SommervilleSaturday SkinFreshDrunk elephantExplanation: selling an aesthetic, are usually seen lined up next to rose gold rings and vases. They have basic ingredients and a high price tag.A lot of brands like these give off uncomfy vibes but it's hard to verbalize. Maybe because it's peak hype and marketing? Beautified consumerism? Btw I am not shading commonfolk for treating themselves how they see fit, but moreso the brands who prey on people's hard earned money with ridiculous price tags.

[Product Question] How beneficial is the zinc in TO's Niacinamide Serum?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I started using TO's Niacinamide serum about 6 months ago, and it's really made my skin look better than it has in years. I'm 33 and have had adult acne since I can remember, and since about 2 months after using the Niacinamide serum, I've only have a handful of minor breakouts. My skin also looks smoother. However, I really hate how much it pills up on me. I've tried using it under, and over, various products, and currently I'm mixing it with my Hyaluronic Acid serum, which seems to decrease the pilling, but not completely.I've been thinking about switching to Good Molecules' Niacinamide serum, or The INKEY List's (I love several of their products already), but neither of them contain zinc like TO's does. I'm afraid that if I switch to a Niacinamide serum without zinc, it won't be as beneficial as TO's has been. So, my question is: is the zinc in the TO serum really that beneficial, or is the Niacinamide doing most of the work? And is there a way for me to separately add zinc to my routine? If I have to put up with the pilling, I will, because it does give me good results. I just don't want to if I don't have to.If it helps: I have oily skin, and as I said, it is acne-prone.

[Personal] Thank you everyone! I've got my perfect skin care routine.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
After years of being too lazy to have a skincare routine, I finally did it. I have nice skin! I spent a lot of time scouring all the posts on here to find the products that sounded best for me, and now I have a simple routine that works great for my sensitive combination skin type.AM:Shower (only rinse face with water)Moisturize -aveeno calm and restore oat gel moisturizerSunscreen (only if I'll be outside) - b lab I am sorry sunscreenPM:Cleanse -vanicream gentle facial cleanserExfoliate (when needed, once a week at most) -TO aha/bha mask peelMoisturize - La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume b5I won't lie. I spent a bit more than usual on my skincare products. Before, I would just go to a drug store or the clearance aisle at tj maxx and buy something with pretty packaging that sounded nice. Sometimes (a lot of times) I didn't like what I got, so my counter would end up covered with half used products and little sample bottles of things that I would mix and match to see if it made my skin nice. Well it's been two months since my new routine (skipping only two nights in total from laziness) and one of my smaller bottles is just now starting to run out. To me, that's a good sign that at least I'm getting my money's worth! A lot of times, even if I got a huge bottle of something I liked, I would never use it all before it expired. On top of that, this stuff is actually working! I have less black heads, less redness, smoother skin, no dry patches, and lighter dark spots. IT'S A MIRACLE! I can't claim that it's just the products doing it. Part of it has to be sticking to a routine everyday. I'm sure my skin's thanking me for letting it relax a little. I think a lot of it though is that I tend to get burning sensations (aka allergies, aka I'm a dummy) from the simplest things like just basic cerave moisturizer. I used to use that everyday. Ugh. All the products (except the sunscreen and the aha/bha mask) are made for sensitive skin. And of course, now there's no more burning sensation. I'm so happy right now. I honestly didn't really believe I'd see that much of a difference this soon or at all, but it's definitely there.Thank you everyone here who posts stuff about your holy grails! Thank you everyone who posts routines! Thank you everyone who asks for help! And thank you everyone who helps the people that ask for help! If any of my products ever get discontinued I'll be right back here sorting through all your posts and comments :)

[skin concerns] my skin burns after use cerave’s lotion moisturizer
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello! My skin is oily and sensitive and I’ve been experiencing some irritation (the burning sensation) with the cerave’s moisturizer, it goes away after a feel seconds and it does not make my skin red but it’s just not great and i feel like moisturizer should not burn or sting by any means. Did this happened with anyone else? Do you have any moisturizer recommendations?Thank you all 💕

[Shelfie] Finally finished my 10 step skin care (for now lol). Been changing it up between serums, masks, and exfoliates (depending on how my skin is feeling that day) and only using distilled water to wash my face (hence the blue spray bottle on the side) never have had better skin in my life!

[product question] So what’s going on with The Beet Shield?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
As much as I do want to trust the brand, I have noticed some alarming posts and have collected the ones I came through in one.Although, some of these actions might have other reasoning behind but at this point, looking at this collectively - I have no choice but to question if The Beet Shield actually has a decent protection level.Just to clarify, this information has been collected from the previous posts.I know there a lot of defenders of the brand, I was one too, but am I the only one who is skeptical at this point?- Krave Beauty’s The Beet Shield sunscreen was pulled from Amazon.- It is sold out on their website.- They informed that sunscreen won’t be in stock for a while.- The post where the director of the Korea Institute of Dermatological Sciences posted the image of sunscreens to be SPF tested (The Beet Shield was there too) was suddenly deleted.- The Beet Shield's product page had been made private on YouTube.- The Origin Story tab has been completely removed from the product page.- Can’t find it anywhere – if they have actually promised to test the product.- Same manufacturer with the Dr. Jart sunscreen, which tested below SPF 50.- There are people who say they still got tan after using The Beet Shield.

[Acne] Moisturiser for dehydrated but VERY oily acne prone skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been going through a really tough time with my skin for the past year and a half. My other posts on here will give some more insight but basically I was using so many products on my face I think I really messed up my moisture barrier. My routine is stripped back now compared to what I was doing but since changing my routine I've also been experiencing a lot of redness and oiliness. My skin was oily before but it feels even oilier now.I've been using Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser for the past couple months but am going to be switching to Cerave's hydrating cleanser.I've always used Simple's light moisturiser and only ever tried 1 other moisturiser and that made me break out so switched back to Simple's light moisturiser.I think my skin is really odd and I try not to apply too much moisturiser because I find it can cause big red angry under the surface spots on my cheeks where my pores are quite big BUT at the same time I feel like my skin is really dehydrated because of this. I'm genuinely really acne prone these days, if I don't wash my face for 24 hours I'll be guaranteed to have at least a couple of new spots. Also if I cleanse and don't moisturise immediately I can feel and see how dry / cracked my skin is or would be if I didn't moisturise at all. Also just another side note and I'm not sure if others have this issue or just me but when I wet my face in the evening it reveals the white moisturiser and I can then see the moisturiser come off as I wash my face. This has sort of prevented me from going swimming because I don't want to look like a clown. Is there some magical moisturiser out there that could be a big help to me?

[acne] I popped a large cystic pimple... Never again
Beauty Tips For Body Care
About 3 months ago I noticed a decent sized pimple forming on my nose. I applied some spot treatment to it but it didn't do anything. After about 2 weeks it was absolutely massive, definitely the biggest I've had. Being stupid I decided to pop it. I'm pretty sure it was 4 or 5 pimples in one because it had multiple heads. Over then next couple of weeks it slowly healed, but then it kinda slowed down a lot. It was pretty small but that point but still I wanted it gone. I went to the derm where I got a cortisone injection and was prescribed epiduo forte (my whole face was breaking out). Four weeks after the appointment now and it is still there, albeit now only slightly raised. I think it was the popping that made it last so long, but I don't really know. Either way, I'm never popping again. Has anybody else had a similar experience? Any tips?

Australian Gold no good? [sun care]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I have seen Australian Gold Tinted 50spf on many different forums and skin care groups. I finally ordered some and instantly fell in love. The texture is dreamy, didn’t leave a white caste, never got greasy, easy to put on a nice thick layer, worked brilliantly under makeup if I wore any, and reapplication was a breeze.BUT!! After wearing it for a couple of weeks to do things like driving to work or running errands, I noticed my freckles have come out like crazy and I’m getting some hyperpigmentation patches on my forehead. I’m pretty religious about reapplying my spf and using a good amount. It’s also winter here, and not all that sunny, so I was pretty shocked by how much sun damage has popped up this quick. Especially considering how much love this product gets. I’m going to go back to my regular Anthelios 60 or 100 melt in milk for now, but has anyone else had a similar experience? Or have any similar suggestions?

[skin concerns] I’m embarrassed to be posting a photo, but I’m getting desperate. Does anyone know how to get rid of this texture-y stuff? I work so hard on my skin, and I still struggle with my chin! These bumps don’t even look/feel like acne — almost more like hives?
