[Skin Concerns] Generally, what does over-exfoliated and/or dehydrated skin look like?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi all, long time SCA-er here. I had to cut back on using moisturizer after having a bout of perioral dermatitis for a couple months (=the worst), which is now almost healed thanks to doxycycline 100mg/day for 3 weeks. I read that moisturizers, especially highly occlusive ones, could exacerbate the perioral dermatitis, so I stopped using them and kept my skincare super minimal: Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Cleanser... and my trusty 2% Paula's Choice BHA each night (avoiding perioral area). The BHA was my holy grail so I didn't want to just stop using it. But after about a month of this routine without moisturizer, my skin texture is just horrible... like a bunch of little closed comedones, rough texture, pores look crappy, when I put my cheekbone in the light you can see all these bumps but they aren't whiteheads. Just... rough and weird. I used to use Paula's Choice Skin Balancing moisturizer at night (which I used to love, but got scared of it and all other products after the peri-oral). I finally used it last night for the first time in a long time (avoiding the perioral area), and saw a little improvement. Still SUPER frustrated with the texture though, and want to know why this happened :( It's also been a little redder than usual, almost looks (and feels) "chapped". And of course, it's been spitting out oil like crazy, so I am a pure oil slick 3 hours after washing my face. (I wash in the morning and at night, both with Paula's Choice above). I'm beginning to suspect my skin is dehydrated or over-exfoliated, so I was wondering what over-exfoliated and/or dehydrated skin looks like? PS: SCA taught me, and I recognize, that moisturizer is super important but I really felt it was necessary to tackle the peri-oral dermatitis once and for all first, because it stuck around for so long.So please, any experience/insights into over-exfoliation or dehydration? Is this gross, kinda bumpy/uneven texture a result of that? And even when my face is super oily (I mean the little beads of oil collecting on my nose, my forehead lookin' SO shiny), it sometimes feels chapped/dry. Has skipping moisturizer really done all this, or is there something else going on??Thank you in advance!
