[DIY] Vitamin C DIY-ers: Let's Talk Penetration! :p

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So, I've been making a super-basic DIY Vitamin C toner for myself, just Vitamin C powder dissolved in water (currently just at 10% w/v solution). This isn't too far off what I've seen recommended on this sub. See this lovely thread. Since it's just been a couple weeks I've been at this, I don't have any results to speak of (other than what I assume to be placebo-related happiness!)Still, when poking around trying to find what would make this work or not, I find opinions like this and this, which pose the issues of spoilage, irritation, what I'm going to call "orphaned actives" (where the vitamin really "ought" to be paired with vitamin E, ferulic acid, or some other active ingredient for max efficacy), and, finally, recrystallization/non-absorbtion.I'm aware that most of us that make our own Vit C product get around the first 3 issues by making more fresh batches, adjusted individually for pH and with other ingredients added at will. But I'm curious about the last issue of making sure the vitamin C you apply actually penetrates the skin, which I think might require more than just my passing understanding of chemistry. So, as a total beginner here, let me just poll the crowd:When you make your own Vit C toner/serum, do you find adding an alcohol like glycerin increases your skin's ability to absorb the product?Does anyone have first-hand experience with either finding/fixing a recrystallizing problem in their recipe, or with trying to formulate an ester/fatty acid/something fat-soluble out of their Vitamin C source? And has anyone bought, say, that super expensive Ester-C for use (I have no idea what its formula is or what it might do topically)?
