[Acne]Double Whammy: Hairy lady face and acne. Yikes! (embarrassing/vulnerable pics inside)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have no idea if my acne is fungal, bacterial, hormonal, scientologist, or what.My RoutineAM: Neutrogina visibly even foaming cleanserPC 2% BHA liquidolay sensitive skin moisturizerBiore UV Aqua Rich water essence.I wait 20 mins after I apply PC to put on my moisturizer, then another 20 mins after I apply my sunscreen to apply makeup.PM: OCM with mineral oil and a few drops of tea tree oilfoaming cleanserAlpha Hydrox 14% swipes twice a weekNivea cream. As far as my general lifestyle goes, I'm 22, drink LOTS of water daily, take a multi vitamin and probiotic everyday, I'm on yaz birth control (for a year), change my pillow cases nightly and I'm pretty bummed out about my skin :/I slowly added these products into my routine starting about a year ago. First I did the BHA, then 6 months later I added the AHA, then a month later I added the tea tree oil to my OCM.Extra bonus question: My face has a crap ton of noticeable blond hairs on them that seemed to just sprout up out of nowhere within the past 2 years. I've had my hormones checked recently, doc said everything looked normal. I guess since I can't really do anything about that, does anyone have a facial hair removal technique? my skin is so sensitive I can't possibly wax it or use harsh creams. Here are the picshttp://i.imgur.com/dB3TJYH.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/wqtLT6H.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/qJYjXOH.jpg

[routine help] This is every product I own and I'm beyond overwhelmed.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
As the pictures will show, addiction is probably an understatement as to what and how often I think, feel, purchase, research, watch tutorials, read, etc. my skin and skincare. To the point that I'm broke and never understood why until I just laid it all out on my bathroom floor.Overwhelmed is an understatement. Can anyone assist with a routine out of this mess? I am a 34/F, my skin is extremely dehydrated, horribly oily, red and tight, huge pores, hormonal acne, and overall clearly I'm overdoing everything.I wish I could list my current routine but it is a combination of everything you see here and changes constantly. I know, that's bad too.I categorized everything into cleansers, toners, serums, treatments and moisturizers.http://imgur.com/a/ebn0MSide bar, didn't photograph eye creams and makeup primers. :|

[Review] I hate CeraVe Sunscreen
Beauty Tips For Body Care
This is my first post, so I hope I am doing it right. If not, I apologize. It is a bit of a rant as well. If this is not appropriate, mods please feel free to remove.About a month ago, I was running low on sunscreen. I bought 2 bottles of CeraVe Sunscreen (SPF 30). I know, my first mistake was buying 2 bottles of a product I had never tried before. My second mistake was buying CeraVe sunscreen. The first use was on my SO's face. Oops. It was THICK and sticky. It would not rub in or rub off. We had to use an oil cleanser to get it off. Then I figured I would use it on my body. I tried, I really did. But it is so thick that it would not spread well, and the white cast never goes away. (I am pretty fair-skinned) In fact, it migrates into the fine wrinkles in my hands and arms. (I never realized I had these fine arm-and-hand wrinkes. Thanks, CeraVe.)So I gave up on me, and used it on my son. Poor guy is pretty dark-skinned, so the white cast was visible all day. Finally this weekend I realized I am trying to use up a product that I hate. I called customer service and told them I would like to return it, as it is a terrible product. The (very friendly) woman in customer service told me that I cannot return a product just because I don't like it. I asked if she had ever used their sunscreen, and she said that, no, she does not use sunscreen. She suggested I take it back to the store where I got it. I asked her if the store would be reimbursed by CeraVe for their poor product. She said that no, the store would eat the cost of it. I don't feel that it is fair for the store to be out the money for the poor quality of CeraVe sunscreen.I plan on calling CeraVe customer service back later today and asking to speak to a supervisor. I have heard such great things about CeraVe as a brand, but this is very frustrating.

[Acne] Closed comedones and blemishes that won't go away!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I [19/m] have pretty mild acne and skin problems that mainly consist of a lot of closed comedones (I think that's what they're called - they are small, acne-sized bumps that I can pop), and general redness and blemishes around my forehead and outer area of my face (meaning my temples and under my neck). The skin under my eyes and around my cheeks and nose is almost always spotless and smooth, save for some blackheads that I don't mind that much. It looks like this: http://imgur.com/a/CBTL2 [1]I've been following this routine for months and not really any changes have happened:AM:CeraVe Foaming Facial CleanserCeraVe AM Moisturizer with SPF 30PM:CeraVe Foaming Facial CleanserPaula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid ExfoliantCeraVe Moisturizing LotionEvery once in a while I will physically exfoliate with Queen Julene's Honey and Oatmeal Scrub, and use a mask, either Aztec Secret Healing Clay, or Queen Julene Mint Julep Masque. I used to use a 10% BP treatment, but it just dried my skin out. About a week ago, I tried not using any products on my skin to see if I was just drying it out of its natural oils. It looked a little better at first, but eventually all the closed pores showed up again and the redness returned. Does anyone have any product suggestions or routine changes I should try? I have been told that the BHA should exfoliate and get rid of the clogged pores, but it never seems to help. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

[Skin Concerns] The Case of the Missing Fingerprints: Could Chemical Exfoliants be the Culprit?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
The other day I went to get my fingerprints taken for a job I'm applying for, and the person who took them had a difficult time pulling any prints, in fact, none of them "cleared". She said that I was too young (I'm 25) to have my fingerprints so degraded (apparently fingerprints can permanently degrade!), and that it was more common with the elderly, cleaners, and trade workers. I am none of these things. The thing is though, I actually got my fingerprints taken 3 years ago (different institution, not prison, same/similar technology), and they had no problem pulling the prints.I've wracked my brain trying to figure out what could have done this, and the only thing I could think of, beside a 2 month stint as a janitor, was my regular use of AHA's, BHAs, and vitamin C in the last year or so, along with my tendency to obsessively wash my hands (with soap). I use my fingers to apply the chemical exfoliants since I think it saves more product and I don't want to re-purchase those pads all the time. I'm really not sure what could have cause my fingerprints to degrade and I have a lot of doubts about the exfoliant theory (especially because I wash my hands right after application and it's only been a year or so of using these products), but that's the only thing I can think of! I have noticed that my fingerprints have been crazy dry these past few months, despite regular moisturizing. Has anyone else experienced this or has any idea of what might be causing this?

[PSA] I think I just found an INSTANT cure for dry/flaky skin
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Okay so a little background, I was prescribed tretinoin 0.05% for my extremely oily skin and moderate to severe acne. It worked wonders and cleared up all my acne but I was dumb enough to not use a moisturizer when I was on it so it left me with a lot of dead/flaky skin. So here's me not knowing what to do because I've never had dry skin, so I decide to randomly screw around with a lot of things (always patch test!). And so I finally tried applying 100% natural honey on my face and started rubbing it gently on my face and let it sit and dry for about 10 mins and then rinsed my face. And to my surprise, BOOM. Almost all of my flaky skin went away instantly! It doesn't break me out but I've heard a lot people telling me it breaks them out so I'd patch test first but omg I've tried this solution about 20 times now and it has worked every time! The trick is to gently rub it on your skin which helps in dislodging the dry skin attached to your face and getting it stuck to the honey which is then rinsed off with luke warm water.

[Routine help] I wash my face at night and by morning it's oily again!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I wash my face at night when I shower (cetaphil daily facial cleanser), exfoliate two or three times a week (stridex), and moisturize (originally loreal but I'm switching to cerave) most mornings and nights. Then, by morning, my face is super oily again and it grosses me out. Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

[Skin Concerns] I have zero routine for my skin and it's time that I do something and I could use some assistance.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am 22 days away from my 29th birthday and I need some help in figuring out what to do with my skin. I don't have bad skin but it's not soft, more so around the nose it feels dry and leathery. Plus very mild acne. I don't have wrinkles yet but I do notice my eyes are getting to that point in some pictures. Here are some pictures of my skin.I am considering [Ost] Original Pure Vitamin C20 Serum since I've been browsing and quite a few people seem to swear by it. Any other advice would be appreciated.I have:normal skin? It's like not dry but not too oily. Like somewhere inbetween?very mild acne (mostly on my chin)I'm a little poor but I have a $50 amazon gift card that I need to use.Mild rednessNo allergies but I'm prone to cold sores in the area between my lips and nose. I can't even wax here in fear of it coming back.

[Acne] Closed comedones getting worse after first routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently started my first skincare routine. It's nothing special. Before I go to bed I started to cleanse my face then moisturize.I have a few closes comedones on my forehead. They were never a big deal, and I had a few that I noticed on my cheekbones. Again, they weren't standing out, but it wasn't exactly perfect skin either, so I opted to start cleansing and moisturizing. It's been 4 days so far, and Ive noticed more closed comedones on my face. In fact just tonight I noticed a few red ones on my cheeks! This lead me to make this post. I have never had acne anywhere on my face except for my forehead (Except the rare zit).Could this be caused by the moisturizer? It makes my skin feel tight after I apply it, maybe I should get a weaker one? Is this a part of the healing process for closed comedones? Do they have to open up and then go away?Im going to start following the pillowcase advice that was given in that other post if you guys saw it. I'm also going to get an AHA and try it out. Here's an image for reference. Sorry for the bad quality but I think you can see the red spots: http://imgur.com/axEHONaThanks for the help in advance.

I'm also going to get an AHA and try it out. Here's an image for reference. Sorry for the bad quality but I think you can see the red spots: http://imgur.com/axEHONaThanks for the help in advance.

[Acne] Are these acne or closed comedones?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
http://i.imgur.com/B2RSY2d.jpg Older photo but it shows the texture the best. http://i.imgur.com/eWSK9SQ.jpg I just took this picture. I have combination of dry and oily skin. These are kinda weird, I think they are scars but they look like discolorations, brownish. What can I do to make them fade? http://i.imgur.com/1gbUedx.jpg Which ingredients should I look for in products? I would like to find something affordable that I can buy here. Most of the ones that are listed somewhere in the sidebar are not available here or are expensive for me to buy. I know to a lot of you maybe $10-20 are not a lot but here my mother makes $200 a month. I hope you can understand that. Thank you!

[Acne]Been running Accutane on a low dose for over a year now
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I never really had bad acne but my mental state was linked to the state of my skin so whenever I did have a pimple or blackheads I would get depressed. I decided to run a low dose of accutane (10 mg ed) and while it took like 6 months to work I have to say it is worth it. My skin is close to perfect now and I have no side effects (I get my blood checked regulary for other reasons)You have to wait longer for it to work but in return you dont have to deal with any of the nasty side effects

OST C20 .....likely the best $20 I've ever spent! [review]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My battle against PIH/ PIEI've being using Cerave PM (Niacinamide) for months .....I really like it!I've used Alpha Hydrox 10% oil-free for months.....I really like it!I've used Azelaic Acid 20% for months..... It's worked alright!I've used COSRX AHA for months.....It's pretty good!I've used COSRX 96% Snail Mucin essence for months ....I really like it!I'm also using Elta MD UV Lotion....it's also very good!!!So, thoughts on the OST C20 Vitamin C Serum? Two weeks in and..... bjhgjafafaf!!! What the hell is this witchcraft!!?! My mind is simply blown that after a week I saw more change in skin tone than I've seen in years. A friend that hadn't seen me in a couple of weeks commented with an almost confused look on his face the other day "you're looking good?!?", even if was something tiny it made such a difference to my confidence and a renewed sense of commitment to my regime!I'm really one to be patient and see how it works after months, so I'm not saying it's a holy grail but still astounded!I'm sure there are other Vit C serums that are superior, but adding one to my routine has been the single best thing I've done. Furthermore, even with active mild acne, I haven't sent a pimple form since using it which has been great as well!!So if you've got $20 or so to burn, I can't recommend a Vit C serum enough...wish I'd done this years ago!!

[Personal]What Vitamin C Serum are you using? Looking for recommendations
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Honestly I'm a noob regarding skin care products ingredients and I've been wanting to get a vitamin C serum for a while. I checked the product recommendations, but others would be appreciated as well. I'm looking for something not extremely expensive, not necessarily cheap but a reasonable price worth the money invested. Also what are your thoughts on hyaluronic acid? what's a good HA serum? Thanks

[Acne] How long is purging supposed to last?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I started doing OCM with aloe mineral oil, I've been consistently doing it for about a week and a half and my skin is just a mess. Im getting whiteheads and cysts especially on my chin and hairline. Is it supposed to be like this? Am I using the wrong oil? Should? I be doing it more than once a day? Or is this just a normal thing that I gotta wait out

[Product Question] Korean Italy Towel. Questions about usage, maintenance, etc.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently received the highly raved about Italy Towel from Korea in the mail. I purchased a pack of red towels because I assumed the color of the towel was just based on preference. However, to my surprise the different colors indicate different levels of exfoliation. That brings me to my first question: Does anyone know what all the colors corresponds to in terms of exfoliation? Another thing I am not sure about is if you use the "towel"/mitt on dry skin or wet skin? Is the mitt suppose to be dry or wet initially when you use it? Do you run it under some water to remove the dead skin as you are exfoliating? Basically how do you use this contraption! I don't have a bath at my current place just a shower, so how would I got about using the Italy Towel? Lastly, am I suppose to clean the towels? If so, with what and how? I'm assuming not in the washer and rather by hand. Could I just use body wash or even dish soap?

[Acne] What do you do for your scalp?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have oily skin with fine hair which is the perfect combination for absolute monster breakouts on my scalp. I currently am using a tea tree oil shampoo, which is okay, but I'm on the hunt for maybe something better. Sulfate-free shampoos seem to irritate my scalp more (strange, I know) and I simply have to shampoo my hair everyday, I'm sorry. I tried to get my scalp on a lesser routine but no dice. I don't have a dermatologist to recommend me anything, but I thought I would just ask you fine people your routines as a way to get ideas (this sub is way more active than other subs this might fit in). So what do you do for your scalp? (Thank you!)

[Skin Concerns] - Itchy, Irritated skin on my body
Beauty Tips For Body Care
About a week ago or so, I noticed several red, slightly textured splotches on my stomach. At first assumed it was just dry skin patches which are normal for me. But a couple days later, I noticed more splotches and that they were beginning to itch. I think it was a reaction to a new body wash that i started using when they first showed up. I stopped using the body wash (and switched back to one i know doesn't cause me issues) but it doesn't seem like the splotches are getting better. I'm currently using my face moisturizer (VaniCream) mixed with a little bit of TTO which stops the itching.Generally, I have pretty normal skin this time of year, it gets very dry in the winter. I don't ever remember having a reaction like this to any products before so I'm at a loss.Do you have any suggestions to speed up the healing? Thanks!

[DIY] glycolic acid: diluting and a spot treatment
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was given a glycolic acid peel of 70% strength. Sooo... I'd like to make a 10% strength with it by adding water. Apparently this strength of glycolic acid makes a great spot treatment for acne. 1:7 parts of glycolic to water should do it, right? I don't math well hahah. Would this ruin the ph and effectiveness? And does anyone have experience with this- diluting acids with water and using it for spot treatments?

[Skin Concerns][Trigger Warning] Terrible texture after using tretinoin: Really need help, about to give up
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi SCA, I'm sorry, I really hate getting kind of heavy like this but I'm being honest and I really need some help with my skin. After I had finished Accutane the first time, I was looking and feeling great. Then my primary care physician prescribed me tretinoin cream 0.05%. For the first month or two it looked pretty good. Maintaining the clarity. Then it got progressively worse until I had to stop because there was no improvement at all. My doctor who prescribed it even said that my skin looked "leathery". I used it, as prescribed, for about four months before I had to call it quits. I'm left like this; disfigured, looking gritty and dehydrated and gunky and aged and unhealthy, just horrible. I've been suicidal over my skin's condition for a month now. I quit tretinoin in July, here I am now. What is causing this texture? Clogged pores? Permanent tretinoin damage? I have some scarring but nothing deep and serious and not that much (that I know of). Can Accutane (I'll be starting a second course soon) smooth this out? Is there anything that can be done? I feel miserable and look disgusting. I have a dermatologist and am willing to try anything. I don't think I can take this much longer. Current routine: Purpose Face Wash AM/PM, CeraVe PM lotion for face in the PM, PC Clear SPF Daily Fluid in the AM, Spironolactone 50mg. Skin is a bit combination, but as mentioned before, dehydrated. I will be starting Accutane again soon. I will do anything. Lasers, needling, whatever. I feel so awful. Pics below. Thank you in advance :( http://imgur.com/I2ftcle,517xnRY,ba4osTq,p7m8ZiO,JQ1pY0w,HM5Ejig,bUYp2lC,bEdV7Rg,f2voZoM,LZ3sMO3,uACXEur,gF9xSiz,MywVRPJ,Kxz123U,qY9lJBR,JnuFySo here are my pictures, sorry about how many there are!

[Skin Concerns] My skin has gone from hassle-free to incredibly dry, ultra-sensitive, incessantly itchy, and over all problematic in a matter of months. What could be causing it and how do I fix it?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Not sure if this is the right place for this but I need help and I don't have the money to see a dermatologist, so here it goes. I have slowly but surely been developing the itchiest skin on the planet. There arent really any bumps, just itchy skin. Not just on my face, but over my entire body. I've gone to my regular doctor and I don't have scabies, bed bugs, impetigo, or anything contagious or pathogenic. What my doctor suggested is that I've developed allergies, which he said can happen at any time. I've essentially gone from having normal skin to developing super sensitive skin and it's driving me insane. I've been trying, through process of elimination, to figure out what it is that I might be allergic to and I've narrowed it down to multiple things. One is something in laundry detergents. Growing up, my mother always used Tide. This is an absolute no no for me now. I have found that using free and gentle laundry detergents reduces the itching, but doesn't entirely eliminate it. Dreft baby detergent is honestly the best, but it's so damn expensive for so little.Another is my body wash. I can no longer just grab any .99 cent body wash and be on my way. I've found that Aveeno Deep moisturizing body wash works nicely, but still doesn't fully quell the incessant itchiness. Also, lotions. I absolutely can't use anything scented. Some scented lotions feel like they're slowly incinerating my skin. I've begun using pure coconut oil and it works great and is very soothing.Last, but certainly not least, and possibly the most allarming, water. Perhaps I just have harsher water in my new apartment than any other place I've lived, but simply rinsing my hands in the sink leads to them becoming incredibly dry and itchy. It doesn't have the same effect on my son or boyfriend. I don't understand. So here are my questions: A) Has anyone else ever experienced this sudden change in their skin? Is it a common thing for a person's skin to go from not sensitive at all to being highly sensitive and irritated by almost everything?B) If I have developed allergies, what specifically have I developed an allergy to? Is there a specific chemical or ingredient that laundry soap, body wash, and lotion all share?

[Product question] Am I supposed to wear sunscreen while using BP?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I was just thinking, when my dermatologist prescribed me both Tretinoin and Adapalene (at separate times), she never mentioned that I needed to wear sunscreen with them. I never used either medication though. The first thing she prescribed me was Benzoyl Peroxide and Clindamycin, she never said to wear sunscreen with those either. I still use the Benzoyl sometimes and am just now wondering if I should have been using sunscreen this whole time. I know, I know, I should be wearing sunscreen regardless, I just haven't found one that doesn't make me break out yet. But is it possible that my dermatologist just assumed I knew to wear sunscreen while using BP, or is it not super important?

[DIY] Why are lemons bad for your skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I read that lemon juice is too acidic for the skin and that it makes your skin photosensitive. Can someone explain why these things are so problematic? Is lime juice similiar in problems? That is does it have the same acidity for example? For the photo sensitivity problem isn't that trivially solved by only applying the lemon juice at night. And why is lemon juice being acidic considered so bad? Like compared to 20% salicyclic acid such as http://www.amazon.com/Salicylic-Acid-Peel-100ml-Professional/dp/B000PNXXJW how does lemon juice compare. The comments say that this 20% salicyclic acid is extremely strong. And if that is so how could lemon juice be that bad? And in worst case scenario isn't diluting lemon juice trivially. So all the problems with lemon juice are trivial to solve. Secondly what is the correlation between ph and exfoliation power?

[Skin Concerns] Wearing gloves for months on end, destroyed my hands. Skin cut up and raw on hands. HELP!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
SUMMARY:Hey! Long time subscriber here, but never posted in here. A summary to describe my condition:I am M, 19 years old, live in NYC. I have suffered through eczema and dry skin all my life, so that led me to be very skin conscious all my life as well.I got a job a year ago, as a cook. During my job, we are required to wear gloves. We can change them, but knowing how lazy I am, I never switched it out. What happened was that my hands sweat so much in there, and made my skin super sensitive. What happened next was that my skin started tearing. I had big holes on all my fingers that were just above the level of bleeding and raw skin all around. My hands were so delicate that every touch rips it more. I cannot do daily tasks like washing dishes, and could not even do my job.PicturesI know I have wrinkly hands, but doctors say that's cause of eczema? Whatever, that's another issue altogether. The lighting flatters my hands, but in real life it is much redder and more raw. Warning, it may be a little horrid.http://i.imgur.com/3SDllOY.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/bbmr2P6.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/DiVFJpr.jpgProducts I've Tried:So I took a leave of absence for 3 months, and the first month passed by, still no improvement. I have tried Aloe Vera, Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, Aveeno, Aquaphor. I'm trying not to touch my hands on anything, but as you can see it is SO hard. Everytime I shower, layers of skin come out and parts of my hand are raw again. It's been a month without work and it only minimally decreased. Every time I accidently hit my finger against something it is like hell to me, because it opens those scabs again. What Now?Sometimes I get anxious and depressed because I miss using my hands and I want to get healed as fast as possible. Even typing is hard, I only use the fingers there is no damage. HELP! :(

HELP! :(

[Product Question] Can anyone recommend some Vitamin C Serums that use MAP at an effective concentration?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm pretty much giving up on finding a stable and gentle enough L-AA based serum and besides, I don't really need the exfoliating properties anyway as I have other actives in my routine. I recently learned that MAP can also be effective at stimulating collagen and brightening so I've decided to give it a try!I've not really heard as much about MAP and tried searching the sub but there's considerably less info than there is for other serums. Can anyone list some serums that use this form of vitamin c and also let me know what concentration I need to look for?Adding also, that Nufountain is hard to find and very expensive to purchase from the UK as far as I know. In my searching, it seems to be a common recommendation but it'd be great to know if any alternatives are out there.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Long time subscriber but I've only recently decided to actually get into skincare. So I was just wondering why this sub loves Cerave so much. Does it work better for particular skin type or is it just better overall?

[B&A] My 3 year long, bumpy, SCA journey.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I think I discovered SCA like 3years ago, and since then I've been taking photos to document my progress. I've come a long way and although I feel a bit self conscious sharing my pictures I hope they can help someone! So here goes. This was the first picture of my skin I posted here (under a throwaway I don't remember any more). I was concerned about the whiteheads I was getting on my forehead, chin, jaw, and cheeks, and the PIH they were leaving behind. Up until I posted I'd been trying different routines I'd had recommended - Clearasil, The Body Shop tea tree line, and the standard Clinique 3-step programme (including a dark-spot corrector that had done absolutely nothing for me except empty my wallet of 60 odd pounds). After I posted this picture, I started a gentler routine - Paula's choice Clear cleanser, toner, moisturiser and sunscreen (introducing these things slowly, like I'd been told), washing my headscarves daily, and my pillowcases weekly. I also became obsessive about not keeping my face towel in the bathroom, and changing it daily too.Overall, it didn't really help. This was my skin around 6 months later. I actually think that the skin around the PIH/acne was improved, my forehead in particular is much less dull. But the acne was now definitely cystic, constantly sore, and making me miserable. It was pointed out to me (by the lovely ieatbugs if I recall correctly) that I wasn't using any particular anti-acne products, and I got recommendations to start using BHA and benzoyl peroxide (which is a real arse to try and track down in the UK).I also got a lot of PMs pointing out to me how hairy my face was and giving me product/treatment recommendations for hair removal. I don't know why I'd never noticed it before. A few people suggested that I might have PCOS or some other condition that was making me excessively hirsute, but nope, I'm just one of those lucky Asian girls that gets to be hairy. Great for eyelashes, terrible for sideburns. Oh well. I got myself a facial hair trimmer - in hot pink so I could feel feminine while shaving my hairy face - but I had to wait months until the acne calmed down enough to let me start using it.6 months or so later. I was so much happier! The BP and BHA definitely helped flatten out the cysts, I was in less pain, and my face was smooth enough that I could shave to my heart's content. I was still dealing with PIH/PIE and the odd new cyst, usually monthly and usually on my cheek/jawline. This was when I decided to see my GP - they agreed that my acne was probably hormonal, and prescribed me Co-Cyprindiol (Dianette).I continued this routine for another 12-18 months, and got to here. BOOM. So happy. My skin was so much better, I got compliments all the time, people said I looked radiant, the lady in Philosophy asked me what my routine was so she could recommend it to others. NO MORE ACNE FO LIFE BIATCHES.Orrrr... maybe not. Shortly after the last picture I moved, started studying for a new degree, and noticed small breakouts (usually closed comedones) starting on my forehead. Occasionally cysts and whiteheads too. 6 months after the last picture I realised it had gotten pretty bad and went back to the GP. This time I was prescribed a topical antibiotic (Zineryt = zinc and erythromycin). It worked! Yay! This was my face last week. The redness isn't usually there, I was immediately post-shave in this picture. I'm still dealing with some stubborn PIH, but I'm back to getting compliments and feeling happy with my skin!My Current Routine I've mentioned a few things I've tried in the past in the wall of text above, but this is what's working for me now:Morning:Wash face with water & konjac sponge Zineryt BHA (Paula's Choice 2% gel) Sunscreen (Eucerin Adjunctive Hydrating Care - SPF30, and it's moisturising enough that I don't need a separate moisturiser. It's a bit greasy but I love it otherwise!)EveningIf no makeup: Cetaphil Gentle Skin cleanser If makeup: remove with Johnson's baby oil, then cleanse. I don't really have a preference, I've liked Shiseido White Lucency Cleansing Foam and Origins Never a Dull Moment, right now I'm using Tony Moly Intense Care Snail Foam Cleanser. Zineryt BHA AHA (Paula's Choice 8% Glycolic Acid Gel) Vitamin C (John Masters Organics Vitamin C Serum) Moisturiser (Eucerin Replenishing Face Cream with 5% Urea - again, it's thick and greasy but I wake up in the morning with my face feeling soft and hydrated so it's alright Eucerin, we're good for now)OccasionalThese are things I intend to do weekly, and probably did at some point, but now I just do them whenever I have some spare time or I'm procrastinating. Like right now. I have an essay to write but I'm typing a long-ass post about my face instead. Don't judge me, you'd do the same thing.Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask - I love this for really clearing out my pores and making my skin feel super clean.Philosophy Microdelivery Vitamin C/Peptide Peel - this is amazing for PIH, I see a visible improvement after I've used it. From experience though I'd say never ever use it if you have active acne/open comedones/any irritation because it makes it worse, and don't follow the advice of gently rubbing the crystals on your face because it's stupidly sore and just causes irritation.Rice flour mask - I make this at home, mixture of rice flour, milk, honey and almond oil. It's lovely, reduces redness and PIH, but I don't do it as often as I should because it's effort. Conclusion So there you go! If you've got this far, well done. I'm really happy with my SCA experience, I remember lurking at first and being confused about the jargon, and about how anyone can spend so much time looking after their skin, but here I am now!I'm planning to see a dermatologist in the near future to find out about options for the hyperpigmentation around my mouth and eyes - any advice would be appreciated! Also, if you're still reading - based on the photos, what do you think my skin undertones are? I go for yellow based foundations (NC44 in MAC) but I'm never 100% happy that I've got a good match.Have a great day!

[Review] Sonia Kashuk scrub and toner; Pacifica face wash
Beauty Tips For Body Care
These are all something like micro-reviews/first impressions. I got pH strips and have been entertaining myself looking for things to test; here are some new products in my collection.Sonia Kashuk "Resurface" Gentle Exfoliating Wash, Target, $15/4.2 oz/125 ml, pH ~7 CosDNAingredientsWater (aqua), diatomaceous earth, glyceryl stearate se, stearic acid, glyceryl stearate, cocamide mea, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, sodium cocoyl isethionate, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, propanediol, cetearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, glycerin, vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, rheum rhaponticum root extract, cyathea medullaris leaf extract, ethylhexylglycerin, steareth-21, ceteareth-20, panthenol, polyquaternium-7, aloe barbadensis leaf juice powder, methyldihydrojasmonate, carbomer, disodium edta, sodium hydroxide, phenoxyethanol, chlorphenesin, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, benzyl alcohol, methylisothiazolinone, titanium dioxide (ci 77891)Things I like:* Not expensive* Great for exfoliating legs pre-shave* Unscented and fragrance free* Licorice root extract (!)* Non-foaming, non-oilyThings I don't:* Fine grains (diatomaceous earth) but too rough for most face useSonia Kashuk "Renew" Micro Exfoliating Toner, $15/5.7 oz/170 ml, pH 4, TargetingredientsNot listed online, and I'm too lazy to type it out right now. Good: more licorice! Bad: citrus fruit extracts! Meh: witch hazel!Things I like:* pH okay* seems to be doing something* no fragrance* is an okay toner, packaging/dispenser is nice* no alcoholThings I don't:* lacks straightforward/proven exfoliating ingredients* unknown quantities of AHA from fruit sourcesPacifica "Sea Foam" Complete Face Wash, $8-10/5 oz/147 ml, Ulta/Target/etc, pH ~5, CosDNAingredientsPurified Water, Cocomidopropyl Betaine (Coconut Source), Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate (Coconut Source), Sodium Cocoyl Sulfoacetate (Coconut Source), Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Decyl Glucoside (Corn Source), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin (Vegetable), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Glycol Stearate, Carica Papaya Extract, Lemon Bioflavanoids, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, , Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water, Citric Acid, Tocopherol Acetate, Panthenol, Napca, Allantoin, Nori Extract, Garcinia Mangostana Peel Extract (Mangosteen), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (White Tea), Sea Algae Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance (All Natural).Things I like:* Nice amount of lather (on par with other low-pH cleansers)* Does a good job removing sunscreen, makeup, and everything else in one go* Good pH* Leaves my skin feeling clean but not tight/dryThings I don't:* Coconut oil content means this isn't for everyone* Includes fragrance (mild/coconutty and last on list, but still)* Burns my eyes really, really badly if it gets in them at allI don't know if I'll repurchase these in the future (since I'm just starting out using them) but figured others could use the reference. Also: the Sonia Kashuk face oil is dumb and don't even bother with it. Also: once the SK face mask shows up at Target, I'll be trying that also. Also!Any tried any of these and have insights? I'm looking forward to what comes out of the Sonia Kashuk skincare line--there are supposed to be several new products being launched throughout the next few months.Edited: formatting.ETA: Toner ingredients.

[Misc] Does anyone else feel like they look weird with makeup on?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I only wear makeup regularly if my acne is really bad, and since improving my skincare routine I haven't been wearing any. Every now and then I try wearing makeup, but it just looks so weird! I can't get over it. I do exactly the same thing I used to, but now I feel like I look like a zombie or something. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

[Routine Help] Guy here, need help putting together routine!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi,I'm a teenage guy, and have struggled with acne for a while. I've been put on minocycline for a bit now, and that has helped stop breakouts from happening as frequently and I now only get a pimple or two every week, and they quickly disappear. My biggest issue currently is PIH, so I would like a routine that treats that, but also helps prevent breakouts. After researching here and other sites, I have put together this routine, but since I'm still pretty new to this am open to all advice and criticisms. My skin type is pretty oily (mostly when its hot out, and a lot on my nose).Routine:Morning - Wash with Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser in the shower - After coming out and drying, put on Paula's Choice C15 Super Booster (unsure of out how long to wait after applying this to go on to next step) - Apply Skin Rescue Oil-Free Mattifying Gel - If its sunny out, apply Paula's Choice Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 50Night - Wash with Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser, pat dry - Now this is where it gets confusing, because I'm sure on how to order/put on the products (wait times, etc). I have Retin-A Micro Gel 0.1, Alpha Hydrox 10% AHA Oil Free Formula, the C15 Super Booster, and the Mattifying Gel, but I don't know the order and stuff to put them on, or even whether they should all be put on together. If you guys could help with that, it'd be great :)Also, if there's anything you think I'm missing or doing wrong (maybe I need BHAs?), please tell. I also have an Adapalene (0.1%) and Benzoyl Peroxide (2.5%) Topical Gel, and a Clindoxyl Gel (1%/5%), but I think I might be over-exfoliating if I use them all together.

[Acne] How can a guy decrease the appearance of zits and acne scars?

I don't have the benefit of using makeup to cover spots and scars. Are there ways to decrease their appearance or at least make them go into some sort of remission for a while, like before going out at night?

Is it possible for me to use an aha daily (to help with PIH) while using benzoyl peroxide every morning and epiduo (benzoyl peroxide+adapalene) every evening? If so when should I fit it into my routine?

[Acne] My Acne starts to clear then flares up. Any Advice?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So this is going to sound like I'm complaining, but I'm simply at the end of my rope... Since I've discovered this sub, I've tried a looot of different things, and I eventually got somewhat of a routine going. AM: 1. Wash face with Neutrogena Ultra gentle face Wash 2. Apply a 0.5% BHA 3. Sometimes spot treat with tea tree oil 4 moisturize with sukin pure aloe veraPM: 1. Wash face as above 2. 2% clearasil BHA 3. Spot treat with BP or tea tree 4. Moisturize with aloeI have tried oil cleansing, which i did like, but I have went back to a bare bones routine out of desperateness. Now here is where the problem begins. Three times now my Acne has started to clear up, and I start getting really really happy with my face. I'm down to my last few spots healing on my cheek and its just looking good, then, it suddenly flairs up again. I don't know why! The past time I think is was because I got too excited and did to much to my face which broke it out, but this time, I really don't know... Three days ago I found what I thought was the holy grail for my face. A 60% tumric 40% European clay powder. I woke up the day after using the mask and I was sooo happy. It looked like my face was clearing up again. I used the mask again yesterday for a little less time just to finish off my Acne, the whole night after I took it off it looked so great! Then this morning I woke up and my face had taken a step back. It's not super super terrible, but I have new spots on my check and it just looks angry and inflamed. It still looks like it can be fixed, I just don't want to do anything for fear of breaking my self out again. Any advice will be much appreciated. Picture of cheek Other cheek

[Acne][Product question] Make-up setting sprays suitable for acne
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi y'all. I'm curious about make-up setting sprays.During warm weather, I have a lot of problems with make-up blurring/slipping as I am quite a sweaty gal. I try not to slap more on if I can avoid it in order to not overload my poor lil pores.I have hormonal cystic acne, which I have actually got pretty well under control thanks to a good routine courtesy of SCA!So, those of you with acne and oily/combination skin, what are your experiences, and what, if any, products would you recommend?I've read good things about Pixi Make-up Fixing Mist http://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/pixi-make-up-fixing-mist.htmlI'm based in the UK but don't mind ordering from overseas. Many thanks for any advice!

[Skin concerns] Bumps on nose after being sun burnt.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
about two days ago I notice two bumps on my nose. I spent 3 days at the beach last week and my nose got badly sun burnt. well my nose is pretty much back to normal, except for these two firm bumps on my nose and they are kind of under the skin. I don't believe that they are acne, but possibly a build up of oil. My nose tends to get very oily and I feel like it built up when my nose had a layer of skin over it before it started to peel. they don't seem like they are going anywhere anytime soon, so I was wondering if there was any thing I can do to get rid of them? Thanks! here's a pic. Edit: I should have added that the bumps are above the tip of my nose. they are also kind of cause my nose to look odd.

[Product Question] Unscented mineral oil
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey folks!I just started the basic ScA Routine. Here is what I am using.CleanseExfoliateMoisturizeAnyways, so this is my situation: I am a guy and the oil smells great, but a bit too feminine for me. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions to a good alternative oil for cleansing. From the research I've done, this current oil is good for all types of skin and just after the first use I was able to get 4 grits.Any feedback would be great!

[Skin Concerns] 20/F, I have always had dark circles under my eyes, looking for help. (Pics inside)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm a college student and I've had these dark circles under my eyes for literally my entire life. Admittedly, I'm not great at drinking water and this could have something to do with it. I don't get thirsty at all, but I don't struggle with skin/lip dryness so I've kind of dismissed this as a cause until recentlyHowever, I have made a concerted effort in the past two months to drink at least a litre of water a day and unfortunately this has made NO difference to my dark circles. Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it? Is there a way I can bleach under there or something? My eyes are quite deep set, could that be part of the issue?Picture from frontPicture from sideNote: I'm wearing concealer under my eyes in these photos. I'm not so much looking for a complete fix on this issue as I'm looking for a way to at leastget away with it when I'm wearing makeup.

[routine help] Travel Routine?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm 18 and have combo skin with mild acne. I have about 1-2 active pimples at a time and 2-3 healing ones. Right now I have on active pimple and 3 healing (I was just on my period so broke out more than usual) However, whenever I go on planes I always end up getting another pimple. I'm very careful with my skin and I always tie my hair back and never touch my face on a flight. I'm going to be traveling in a few days to California and the flight is about 7-8 hours. I'm going to do my nighttime routine before I go to the airport. Which is:1.Cerave foaming cleanser 2. rapid clear neutrogena acne pads 3. Cerave moisturizerI'm wondering if I should bring anything on flight skincare wise and if I should treat my skin on the flight or right after? I'm thinking I want to bring neutrogena grapefruit face wipes with salicylic acid in them. Salicylic acid works really well for me. Also thinking about bringing simple micellar water? What do you guys do?

[Hair Removal] Epilation and Ingrowns, or Why here and not there?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello there lovelies, I have a question that hopefully y'all can help me answer. I use an epilator (Braun Silk-epil 7) to rid myself of body hair and I seem to ALWAYS get tons of ingrowns in my arms, but not my legs at all.I wear tighter fitting jeans almost all the time, which I know is a no no when it comes to freshly epilated skin, but I never seem to get any ingrowns or unsightly bumps on my legs. Now for my arms; I make sure to wait 48 hours before physically exfoliating, I also use Tend Skin morning and night for 72 hours then I use it once a day, and I do not wear any exceedingly tight clothing on my arms. But lo and behold, my arms become super angry and get a mottled look to them after I epilate. This drives me crazy as I would LOVE to know why my legs are perfectly fine with being epilated, but my arms are not. Are there any tricks I should be doing that I am just oblivious to? Or am I destined to have angry and unsightly arms for the rest of eternity?

[Acne] Is it dangerous to not use a moisturiser whilst on roaccutane?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm currently on roaccutane 40mg and recently (about two weeks ago) I stopped using a moisturiser as I thought it was causing more acne. Since I've stopped using a moisturiser, my skin has felt much smoother, nicer, less painful, and my acne looks better also. Is this dangerous? Am I okay to continue without a moisturiser or is it simply that I haven't found a moisturiser that suits me?Thanks :)

[Skin Concerns] Extreme dark circles under eyes
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I get really bad under eye circles and i don´t know what to do about it. People say to get rest, drink water, eat healthy but I do and nothing changes. This happens every other day. It is totally getting me down because I look sick. I feel too uncomfortable too leave home without a lot of makeup on. I just want to get rid of it and feel comfortable in my own skin, literally.I am 21 yrs and I feel like this makes me look old. People of my age can go for a "no makeup day" and look fresh. Not me. I look like gollum. The skin around my eyes is really thin. I have considered this as a possible cause. But when I wake up in the morning I look fine. As the day goes by it gets worse. The color changes from my own skincolor (caucasian) to a dark purple/blue almost black shade. Help me please.

[Acne] Pearl powder pills for acne
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am in Taiwan right now and my aunt bought a bunch of pearl powder pills for my cousin who is struggling with acne.Apparently you eat 2 pills after breakfast and another 2 after dinner and it will clear up your acne. They are capsules of brown powder and they grind up the pearls right in front of you when you buy it.Has anyone heard of this? A quick search on this subreddit suggests that pearl powder is only a topical skincare ingredient. Can anyone speak to this?

[Skin Concerns] How do I get rid of a returning patch of raised skin?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I think this started with some acne that I picked on my forehead. And yes, I know, you're not supposed to pick, but it can be difficult. Now I have this small patch of skin that's raised above the rest, like a scab. So basically, the skin will grow, it will dry, I will pick it off (if I were being diligent I would use my Konjac sponge, but I usually don't), and then it will grow back, and I'll repeat the whole process. The skin underneath the scab looks a bit different from the rest of my face, but it isn't red or irritated or anything. However, this bit of skin keeps growing back. How do I break the cycle?

[Product Question][Research] Calling all chemists: Methylisothiazolinone in skincare products?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I recently read a recommendation for Nivea for Men Sensitive Aftershave Balm as a pre-makeup skin primer, in addition to being a razor burn alleviator. Looking at the ingredients list, it has Methylisothiazolinone in it. I didn't recognize it so I did some very (very) preliminary research and found a study linking it to cell death in neurons (so, neurotoxic?).I don't want to be alarmist, so I'm hoping someone in this sub can shed some light on this. I realize this isn't a question necessarily related to comedogenicity but I'm curious if the study holds water and whether or not the ingredient would be an eventual skin irritant, delay skin cell renewal, or cause notable damage (endocrine, neuro, or otherwise) over longtime use.Link to study (sorry, I'm on mobile): m.jneurosci.org/content/22/17/7408.abstractEdit: Tried to create a link to the study. I'll leave the plaintext up in case it doesn't work. Edit 2: Screw it. Trying on laptop. -___-;;

[Acne] Can starting to wash your face make you break out?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I had bad acne as a teen, but after a couple rounds of Accutane I've never had more than a rare pimple or two at a time as an adult. I've been using a moisturizer in the morning and a vitamin C serum for the past few weeks with no ill effects, and decided that I might as well start washing my face regularly as well. I got a bottle of Cerave hydrating face wash that's supposed to be non-comedogenic and have been using it morning and night, but over the past few days I've gotten a giant pimple in the middle of my forehead, a couple on my chin, and one on my lip. I can't remember the last time I had this many! Nothing else about my lifestyle has changed. Any reason for why this could be?

[Acne] Anyone else notice a link between dairy and their acne?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I got my wisdom teeth removed about two weeks ago and since then I've been on a soft food diet that consisted mostly of dairy: yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal with milk, ice-cream. About a week after the extraction I began noticing very small pimples on my forehead. Which is weird b/c I'm on Differin and it's managed to keep my acne at bay thus far. So the only thing I can think of is dairy, as I've definitely been consuming much more of it than I usually do. Anyone else notice a relationship between dairy consumption and acne? Once you stopped, how long did it take for the acne to clear?

[Acne] I think my skin is purging? I've just moved back to a large city for university. HELP.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello SCA! I have made a new reddit account, but followed on my old one. I've recently been having some concerns with my skin. My face seems to be COVERED in blackheads and my forehead with swollen pimples ( they look like bug bites, not whiteheads ). This has been a huge change from 3 weeks ago. I haven't changed anything in my routine, but moving to a large city where I attend college. This has never happened before and my skin was reacting wonderfully to all the products I've been using. If there is anything you all can help me with YOU WILL BE A LIFE SAVER. Here is my current routine. - Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser 2x a day (I have also added Murad's Acne Cleanser since I've been purging.) - Murad Hydrating Toner 1x a day - Alpha Hydrox Intensive Serum 14% Glycolic AHA 1x a day.

[hair removal] Bruising after brazilian? (x-post from TwoX)
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi!I just got my first brazilian wax like 20 minutes ago, except it was with sugaring so I guess it wasn't a wax at all. My first brazilian sugar? (Sounds like a bonbon.)Anyways, it didn't hurt too badly (enough to jump and laugh hysterically a bit) so I got home and immediately started inspecting the area, it seems I have a little bit of bruising in the form of some large purple dots on my junk. Not too large, biggest is maybe 6mm long. Normal? Worrisome? Thing I can do to help it?I went to a pretty high-end salon, so I'm kind of confused. Paid like $75 for this shiz! Thanks for any help!

[Product Question] Anyone got a easy DIY method of having a matte face?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
As a guy, I don't wear makeup and I have really oily skin. I've tried the lightest moisturizers to the heaviest and nothing works.I've come to the point where I'm willing to just apply something light to my face to keep it matte or at least the shine very low. I get greasy oily and want to keep that at a minimum. Are there any drugstore accessible products that i can apply lightly to my t-zone?Thank you

[Routine Help] Help with utilizing BHA and BP in a daily routine
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello everyone. I hope this can be the final form of my routine, as I'm going off to college tomorrow and I'm hoping this will work well. I've gotten results using Paula's Choice BHA 2% and the acne.org BP at night but the two when combined each night have created a redness on my face over the two weeks I've been doing this. I think using the BHA in the morning and BP only at night is a better way to "spread out" my routine and stop the irritation. I'm not flakey, just flush and almost sunburnt looking after I wake up from the combo of BHA+BP. Who thinks this is a good idea and thanks for reading!Morning:Wash with waterPaula's Choice BHA LiquidMoisturizeNight:acne.org Cleanseracne.org BPCerave Moisturizer + jojoba oil

[Skin concerns] Mystery rash on my chest appears after showers
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Every time I take a shower, I get this weird rash only on my chest and neck. I don't have any marks anywhere else on my body. And it itches like crazy! I try hard not to scratch it, but it feels like fire. After a couple hours, it fades away. The only other time I get it is if I get sweaty from being outside in the sun (but only sometimes).I look like I've been making out with a bear! Can you tell me what it is and how I can stop it from happening? I don't use any products on my chest/neck in the shower, and I moisturize that area with this. (Sorry for the potato picture!)

[Acne] Looking for a non oily moisturizer
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there!First things first, I have to say that I really can't stand anything even slightly oily on my face during daytime, mainly because I've been dealing with oily skin for most of my teen years and I'm pretty sensible when it comes to this topic.I really don't care if a product I use before going to bed leaves a white cast or makes me as reflective as a mirror since I'll be sleeping during the following hours, but leaving the house knowing that my face looks greasy is something I want to avoid.Still, I really need a moisturizer, mainly because at night I'm using Differin, which has the tendency to dry out the skin. So I'm looking for a moisturizer that is so light that is almost unnoticeable, something that gets the job done without being too visible. Here's my full routine:AM:Wash with plain water[Here's where I'd use the moisturizer]La Roche-Posay Anthelios 30 spf (Anti-brillance, anti-shine)PMCetaphil Gentle Skin CleanserDifferin 0,1%Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion PMThanks in advance for your help :)

[Review] Quick guide to different CeraVe Moisturizers and their ingredients!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I know CeraVe in the tub is quite popular here, but I just wanted to provide a quick overview of other CeraVe moisturizers for those who aren't familiar.NOTE: All CeraVe moisturizers contain cetearyl alcohol and most contain cetyl alcohol as well, which may cause breakouts to those who have a sensitivity to fatty alcohols.Cerave Moisturizer OverviewCerave Moisturizing Cream (also known as Cerave "in the tub") is a thick, creamy moisturizer with ceramides, hyaluronic acid and petrolatum.Cerave Moisturizing Lotion comes in a bottle and is a thinner consistency. It also has ceramides and hyaluronic acid.Cerave PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion (my fave) comes in a small pump bottle and is a silky/gel texture. It contains niacinamide (great anti-aging ingredient), ceramides and hyaluronic acid.Cerave Renewing SA Lotion comes in a pump bottle and places more focus on chemical exfoliation. Notable ingredients are mineral oil, ammonium lactate (similar to lactic acid), salicyclic acid, ceramides and a lower concentration of hyaluronic acid.Cerave Renewing SA Cream comes in a tub and is a thicker version of the SA lotion and contains similar ingredients with the addition of niacinamide.Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream comes in a tub and contains shea butter, ceramides, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid.Notable Ingredient OverviewCeramides: Naturally occurring, long chains of skin lipids (fats) that are major structural components of the skin’s outer layers. Skin as a barrier system inhibits water movement via its extracellular matrix, which has a unique composition of 50% ceramides, 25% cholesterol, and 15% free fatty acids. Together, these lipids form what researchers refer to as "crystalline lamellar structures". Ceramides are necessary for the skin’s water-retention capacity as well as for barrier repair and cell regulation. Adding ceramides to skin-care products can help to restore the skin’s barrier system.Hyaluronic acid: Component of skin tissue that is used in skin-care products as a good skin-identical ingredient. Hyaluronic acid can boost skin's moisture content, reduce inflammation, have cell-communicating abilities, and help prevent moisture loss.Niacinamide: Also known as vitamin B3 and nicotinic acid, niacinamide is a potent cell-communicating ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging skin. Assuming skin is being protected from sun exposure, niacinamide can improve skin's elasticity, dramatically enhance its barrier function, help erase discolorations, and revive skin's healthy tone and texture.Ammonium Lactate: Ammonium lactate is a mix of lactic acid and ammonium hydroxide. It is used as a skin moisturizer lotion to treat dry, scaly, itchy skin. Those who are using it should avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays, such as sunlamps or tanning beds. Ammonium lactate makes skin more sensitive to sunlight. Skin is more likely to sunburn. Use sunblock and wear clothes when exposed to sunlight.Salicylic acid: Referred to as beta hydroxy acid (BHA), it is a multifunctional ingredient that addresses many of the systemic causes of blemishes. For decades dermatologists have been prescribing salicylic acid as an exceedingly effective keratolytic (exfoliant), but it also is an anti-irritant This is because salicylic acid is a derivative of aspirin (both are salicylates—aspirin’s technical name is acetylsalicylic acid), and so it also functions as an anti-inflammatory.Shea butter: A plant lipid extracted from the karite tree that is used as an emollient in cosmetics. Shea butter is a rich source of antioxidants.Ingredient ListsCeraVe Moisturizing CreamPurified Water, Glycerin, Ceteareth-20, Cetearyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Ceramide 1, Hyaluronic Acid, Cholesterol, Petrolatum, Dimethicone, Potassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Phytosphingosine, Carbomer, Xanthan GumCeraVe Moisturizing LotionPurified Water, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Ceramide 1, Hyaluronic Acid, Cholesterol, Dimethicone, Polysorbate 20, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Potassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Cetyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Phytosphingosine, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Carbomer, Xanthan GumCeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing LotionPurified Water, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Niacinamide, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Ceramide 1, Phytosphingosine, Hyaluronic Acid, Cholesterol, Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Potassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Carbomer, Xanthan GumCeraVe Renewing SA LotionPurified Water, Glycerin, Mineral Oil, Ammonium Lactate, Salicylic Acid, Trolamine, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-100 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3 in Corn Oil), Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Ceramide 1, Cholesterol, Phytosphingosine, Dimethicone 360, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Propylparaben, Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Carbomer, Xanthan GumCeraVe Renewing SA CreamPurified Water, Glycerin, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Mineral Oil, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Ammonium Lactate, Salicylic Acid, Triethanolamine, Cetyl Alcohol, Niacinamide, PEG-100 Stearate, Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3 in Corn Oil), Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Ceramide 1, Cholesterol, Phytosphingosine, Hyaluronic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Methylparaben, Edetate Disodium, Propylparaben, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Carbomer, Xanthan GumCeraVe Skin Renewing Night CreamPurified Water, Glycerin, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Glyceryl stearate SE, Stearic Acid, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Saccharide Isomerate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Ceramide 6 II, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 1, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, Caprooyl Tetrapeptide-3, Tripeptide-1, Cholesterol, Phenoxyethanol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Behentrimonium Methosulphate, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol, Allantoin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Phytosphingosine, Dextran, Xanthan GumHopefully this information will be useful to people interested in trying Cerave.

[Product Question] I've never used an AHA or BHA exfoliant in my life - what can I expect?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have acne prone skin that only breaks out in whiteheads (nothing else), mostly at my cheeks. Recently I realized that the fact that I never exfoliate may contribute to my skin improperly shedding skin cells. I pretty much never break out in the areas where I shave regularly - maybe 1-2 small pimples once in a while.I tried using a manual exfoliation brush a couple of weeks ago and broke out like crazy (although that might also be because I slept without washing my face for 3 days straight while I was on vacation).Anyway - I was looking to try an AHA - specifically, Netostrata's 8% Toning Solution with Gycolic Acid - but I wanted to ask what I can expect over the course of say, 3 months, when using an AHA or BHA product?I have acne prone skin, but 95% of my breakouts are on my cheeks - the rest of my face is (knock on wood) relatively clear.Any advice?

[acne] New York City in Pimple Form
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Every once in a while I'll get a huge painful bump (usually on my chin). Seriously like the title says it's New York City. The pimples are living on top of each other. Like maybe 4 squeezed into a tiny space and it's pretty painful. Is that cystic acne? Does anyone have any suggestions to help it on its way out? Current routine:AM: splash with water, stridex in red box, 10% benzoyl peroxide, sebamed care gelPM: cerave foaming, stridex in red box, Paula's choice aha gel, cerave in the tub. Thanks!

[Acne] PSA about pillows/pillowcases/sleeping
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm sure something like this has been posted before, but I recently made a huge realization on what causes a lot of my acne. For whatever reason, I looked in the mirror and noticed a very consistent pattern of acne on my face. I thought it might be from sleeping, and sure enough I laid my head on a pillow and where my face touched the pillow is almost perfectly where I had all of my acne.I usually wash all my pillowcases and sheets/blankets once a week but I came up with a new strategy to keep my pillowcases especially clean, and not have to do laundry every other day... It may be overkill, but what I did was washed my actual pillows, and bought a set of 4 non matching pillowcases.. I have a favorite pillow and designated that as my "face pillow". I use a non matching pillowcase on the one that I put my face on, and only sleep on that specific pillow. So day 1: I put new pillow case on face pillow.. day 2: turn that pillowcase inside out, and day 3: put another clean pillowcase on my face pillow.. repeat and wash all my sheets once a week like normal.Mind you, I've only done this for about a week but I got no more new pimples! first time in a long time. Yesterday though, I got another pimple after taking a nap on said pillowcase.. And I think the reason for that was not washing my face before sleeping.. so because of that I was sort of smearing my somewhat dirty face on the pillow and because of that it gave my another pimple.. if that makes sense.Tl;dr: Clean pillowcase every night and never laying my face down without washing it first.Again, this may be common knowledge or posted before but I honestly feel like I may have solved what 90% of my acne has been coming from! Thanks for reading. Good luck!

[Acne] Derm appointed 'cleaning' by cosmetologist - helpful or harmful?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been to such a cleaning (sorry, direct translation, might not be the correct term) two times in the past. I've made an appointment for one next week, as strongly advised by my dermatologist. What I am concerned about, is that this procedure entails my face getting steamed, after which the cosmetologist goes wild popping and squeezing it raw. I have a problem with picking, and am mostly able to keep it in check by reminding myself that I'm damaging the pores and making them vulnerable to future breakouts. So isn't this 'cleaning' doing the same thing? Isn't it making my pores only more damaged?

[Skin Concerns] Recently moved to a new country, and I'm struggling to maintain a healthy skin.
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello ScA! I'm 18, recently moved from Aruba to The Netherlands (the water is very different). And I've been having skin irritations, and I don't know what to do any more. I'am a complete beginner with skin care. I read the ScA Routine, so I bought L'oreal hydra energetic cleanser, nivea tonic, nivea aqua sensation and ClearSkin Scub gel. I don't know how to to make a proper routine out of them. I also don't know what to do with this. It was orginally a small pimpel, I scratched (I very much regret it) and got that. I'm really concerned that it will leave it will leave discoloration when it's gone. I would appreciate some help/advice very much. Thank you!

[Acne] Manual exfoliation makes me break out. What else can I use? Fruit enzyme?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
My skin can be acne free and as soon as I exfoliate with a washcloth I'll break out like crazy a couple days later (whiteheads). My face just can't handle any manual exfoliating, even with microfiber cloths.I would also like to avoid bha/aha as I've tried those in the past and also broke out. I recently learned of fruit enzymes as a way to naturally exfoliate gently so now I'm thinking if trying that, but not sure what to get. I was going to get papaya but then saw a post here about how it can actually damage your skin. Thanks for any input.

[Routine Help] Learned I have fungal acne/folliculitis, need some help with a routine as I can't do the normal beginner one!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
It's just little white bumps on my cheeks/forehead/jaw and a lot of them on my chest and arms. My body will probably just fade as I stopped using any kind of oils, and I'll use the same cleanser I do on my face for it, but I'm more concerned about my face. I know everyone likes to say YMMV but I guess I'm just asking for some general recommendations that might help me with this situation. My skin is not overly oily at all, it's more normal but very sensitive. But if I had to pick between using a product for oily skin or for dry I would pick oily. The folliculitis is chronic so it will come back if I take something to try to get rid of it permanently. For this I have to use oil-free products, I'm mostly not sure what active to use to treat something fungal and I'm definitely not sure of an oil-free active to use. I did not have a routine whatsoever because I thought my skin was just too sensitive for everything (when in actuality it was just the oil). Here is what I have bought so far and plan on using:-Neutrogena Oil Free Deep Clean Cream Cleanser (but does anyone have any recommendations instead? I feel like it might end up being too harsh for my face)-Teddie Organics Rose Water Facial Toner & Freshener-99% Organic Aloe Gel-Clinique Dramatically Different Gel-Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream-Ayur Sandal Face Pack (Multani Mitti, Calamine powder and kaolin powder)I also bought BIOTONE Healthy Benefits Oil-Free Face Massage Creme because I like to do self-massage and I figured maybe it would work as a body lotion but I don't know if that's relevant. What I'm doing right now is (while I wait for the other one to come in) using Cerave Hydrating Cleanser (it feels too oily on me though), then Aloe Vera Gel on my body and face, and then the Clinique on my face.I'm assuming I need a sunscreen and active to help kill the fungus. I always thought I had dry skin and could never understand why I would get itchy bumps no matter what oil I put on and thought my skin was just too sensitive, so I have no experience with treating anything like this.

[Routine Help] First time posting here and my minimalist routine does nothing for my extremely oily skin and mini pimple breakouts. Please help!
Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've been to a dermatologist before (getting prescribe topical gels, etc.) but I'm tired of putting so much chemicals on my face and having no results (about 4 years of trying different topical gels, etc.). This is my first time on the SCA subreddit and I've heard so many success stories from SCA, so I hope you guys can help me too!I have recently started to only use Cerave foaming cleanser on my face at night and washing my face with only water in the morning). That being said, the moisturizer I use in the morning (Neutrogena combination skin), makes me so oily and it gets extremely bad at night.I am currently living in a very humid city and every time I step outside, I sweat like crazy. In addition to that, I have some acne here and there, but my skin has been extremely oily. Nothing I do helps :(Here is my routine.AM: 1. Wash face with water 2. Apply one pump of Neutrogena combination skin oil free moisturizer and spread it across my face.PM: 1. Apply one pump of Cerave Foaming Cleanser 2. Spot treat pimples with Calamine Lotion 3. Apply a generous amount of Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream to rest of my faceThe most annoying is the amount of oil on my face. What can I do to fix that? The second issue would be the mini pimple breakouts. I feel like the calamine does it's job in decreasing the swelling, but it would be nice to have clear skin again one day. Please help me out :( I know it's something that is small and this may sound dumb, but my skin has time and time again make me feel depressed and ugly. Going through all this treatment with my dermatologist and seeing no results really make me lose hope.Thank you guys for your help and I wish I had tried this subreddit much sooner.

Staph [skin concerns]
Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I've had issues with staph since I was in my teens. I have a really bad immune system, which doesn't help. But the older I get the worse my staph gets. I get staph on my back side and upper back thighs and under arms and under my boobs. Sorry for the bad visual but I'm trying to show just how awful it is. I eat healthy, I work out, I take really good of my skin. I don't tan, I don't eat a lot of processed foods, etc. I've been given antibiotics for it and everything and nothing works.I hate it because I feel like a freak and I always feel self conscious if I wear anything that shows them. It makes me feel dirty and I get paranoid that people think I'm not sanitary when that couldn't be farther from the truth. This may be a long shot, but does anyone here have ANY ideas for how I could combat this? How I could get rid of the dark discolored staph scars and get my life back?

[Routine Help] Where in the ScA Routine should I apply a mask?
Beauty Tips For Body Care
Title says it all. I want to apply a PTR night time cucumber mask for ten minutes then wash it off. Should I do it after exfoliating and repeat the cleanse step, or someplace else? Thanks.
