Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi there! So my story is kinda long, but I would be very thankful if you could bear with me through it, hoping that you can help me with my problem (: (sorry in advance for the probably odd sounding English, not my first language)I am 22 and have struggled with very bad acne since I was 13 - your typical story, tried everything with no effect whatsoever. My teen years were basically changing dermatologists/beauticians every 5-6 months, trying all kinds of procedures/creams/etc.Fast forward to 3 years ago, I finally managed to get rid of most of my acne thanks to a certain dermatologist in my country. However, now that I was "cured", she insisted that I used only anti-acne lotion and nothing else. Having tried so many things already, some of which basically ruined my skin and made it so much worse, I had developed a VERY strong fear of trying new skincare products, so I was totally fine with using just this thing, which seemed to be working. The only thing I added was Avene's micellar water, since I was aware that I have to at least clean up the dirt that had build up on my skin during the day. However, a while ago my skin started to get extremely dry and flaky. Bear in mind that until then I was so frustrated and tired of dealing with my acne for the past 9 years that I had no interest in make up, skincare routines, moisturizing, etc. - the things a teen girl is normally interested in at the time. It was mainly psychological - I had tried so many beauty products without any effect that I was convinced all beauty products are useless and I was going to have awful skin for the rest of my life no matter what I do (or don't do).So now that I had finally got rid of the acne and actually knew that my skin could be beautiful, I was worried by the dryness that started to show, my skin was peeling, so I decided it was time I overcome my fear of using beauty products. I started educating myself, and for the past month, I read a lot of stuff about skincare routine during the 20s and finally caught up on the knowledge of good skin. After carefully reading a lot of reviews/watching videos, etc, I started building my routine. First things first - I had to give my skin what I had been depriving it of during the last half decade - moisture. I bought a day cream with SPF, a night cream, and an eye cream, and now my skin looks considerably healthier, the dryness is absolutely gone. I countinued using the anti-acne lotion but only for spot treating. Then I found this subreddit and started reading the FAQ. So this is where my problem comes...Having overcome my fear of products, I was still closing my eyes about the whole exfoliation part. Back in my teens, I had tried exfoliating with scrubs, sponges, and microfibre clothing, and it all lead to excessive inflammation, huge cysts and acne spreading to the unaffected parts of my face. When I explained this to my current dermatologist, she sad that obviously "exfoliation just wasn't for me". However, now that my skin isn't as dry, I noticed it still is somehow flaky and uneven, and after reading another ridiculous amount of articles on it, I had understood that this has all to do with dead skin and lack of exfoliation. I bought a gentle exfoliator, and only 2 days after using it, the cysts started reappearing. Then I found this sub, and read some more on the subject. Obviously the sponges and clothes aren't an option, as they only make the matter worse in my case, but I decided on buying a glycolic peel. However, I live in a country where I don't have access to almost any of your recommendations, and if I do, the shipping costs are truly heartbreaking. I started looking for a serum with a small % of glycolic acid as a start, but discovered that the glycolic acid products sold in my country are only anti-aging ones for 35+ years. The only one I found which didn't specifically say it was for aging skin was this one => Glycolic acid cleanser . After researching it on other sites it was stated that this one, too, was for aging skin, plus the review on www.paulaschoice.com wasn't very flattering. So my questions are these: 1) Is it bad for me to use glycolic acid products that are normally for aging skin? If so, is there any other way I can exfoliate my skin without all the damage the physical exfoliation does to my face? 2) Is micellar water cleansing enough for my acne-prone skin or do I need something stronger (I browsed some anti-acne deep cleansing gels, but from previous experience I have noticed that anti-acne products are very hard on skin and leave it dried out)?Thank you in advance and I hope I haven't bored you too much xx
