[Product Question] Azelaic Acid that isn't from The Ordinary?

I want to try azelaic acid but I hate the form it's in from The Ordinary, it's so thick. Hard to work with. Anyone have any suggestions for other products, hopefully serums?

[PSA] How to avoid and get rid of COLD SORES

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm making this post because I'm sick of family gatherings full of relatives with HUGE cold sores, claiming that it's not contagious. It's just gross! Stop scratching that nasty sore and touching all the plates, serving spoons and pitchers. Some prevention facts:> • Cold sores are very CONTAGIOUS when blistering> • They're caused by Herpes Simplex virus> • It can spread to other parts on your face (including your eyes), fingers, and in rare cases it can spread to your brain> • Once someone's contracts the virus, they carry it for life. It remains dormant inside nerve cells when not blistering.> • You're more likely to contract it if you have open wounds or cracks in the skin. Most people get it from parents, school, or university. How to get rid of them:> • Mention cold sores to your doctor; she will probably prescribe you Valaciclovir. It's a pill, common brand Valtrex, generics work just as well. It is taken at FIRST signs of tingling, twice a day for 1 day (or as prescribed). Only taken during flares. Always carry it with you, so you're ready for that first tingle. An alternative pill is Famciclovir.> • Optional: Topical cream Acyclovir (common brand Zovirax, generic will do too, Rx). Make sure your hands are clean, put a tiny dot on your finger, and dab it on the blister. Do not smear it. Wash your hands thoroughly after application. Personally, I don't use this because the Valaciclovir does the trick for me.> • ABREVA DOESN'T WORK. Don't waste your money.> • Do not scratch. If it's unbearable: wash your hands, scratch only the affected area, wash hands again, dab the area with paper to get rid of the pus. Do not smear.> • Wash the non-affected areas of your face first, with very clean hands. THEN wash the affected area separately. Then wash your hands thoroughly. Dry the non-affected parts of the face with one towel. Then with a paper towel (or tissue, or tp) dab/pat the affected area until dry. Throw away paper. DO NOT SMEAR.> • With clean hands, apply moisturizer to the unaffected areas of your face to prevent skin cracks. If you got the Acyclovir, now is the time to put a bit on the affected area. Wash hands.> • DO NOT SCRATCH YOUR EYES.> • If the blister is leaking, constantly pat it dry with paper, and wash hands. At night, if it's leaking a lot, put a piece of cotton with medical tape to prevent the pus from going into other parts of your face and/or pillow. If you took the Valaciclovir early enouh, it should not even get to the point that it's leaking. The pill stops the sore from appearing altogether.> • When possible, it is best to leave it uncovered so the wound can dry up. Bandaids are only helpful during the night time, or at a social outing, to prevent contact with others.> • Do not cover it with make-up. Be careful when applying lip balm to not contaminate the lip balm and unaffected skinL-Lysine is a daily supplement that supposedly helps prevent flares. Studies are inconclusive and my doctor said I could take it if I wanted, but she couldn't make a clinical recommendation for it. I used it for 2 years and saw no difference. Some other people say it works for them.Have a happy AND HYGIENIC halloween/thanksgiving/holidays!

[Routine Help] Fighting acne: BP with differin vs Azelaic acid with differin

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I have combo dehydrated skin and spurts of acne then no acne:I’m currently using differin 0.3 gel and its ok but I could use a little more effectiveness. Which would be a more beneficial combination for acne and keeping a clear face?, differin with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide (basically self made epiduo), Or differin with azelaic acid. I also use BHA once every couple of days during the evening. I got striata rewind and liquid gold in order to replenish my skin because I assume this could be harsh.

[Review] 3 SPF lip balms: Elta MD, Cotz, and Ultrasun

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've tried many SPF lip balms over the years. My biggest complaint is that so many are less than SPF 30 and some are not even broad spectrum. Why insist on SPF 30 for your face but use something less on your lips? Lips receive UV exposure too and are a common place to get skin cancer.Additionally, I found that many SPF lip products have a "chemical taste" and/or irritate my throat. So I started excluding ones that contain avobenzone (which I suspect, but am not certain, is responsible for this). Here is a review for three that I've used that met my requirements. Photos are at the end of the post.Elta MD Lip Balm SPF 31 Active Ingredients: 7.5% Octinoxate, 5.0% Zinc oxide. Inactive Ingredients: Petrolatum, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Lauryl Laurate, Purified Water, Flavor, Polyethylene, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cera Alba, Glycerin, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Glyceryl Behenate, Microcrystalline Wax, Quercetin, Thiotic Acid, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Hydrolyzed Caesalpinia Spinosa Gum, Glyceryl Stearate, Caesalpinia Spinosa Gum.Contains antioxidants Vitamin C and E. This has a vaguely minty scent, though it contains no mint or other flavoring. I would not repurchase this because I don't like the oily base that it is in. It comes out of the tube as a soft solid, but turns very oily on my lips. The result is a very glossy appearance and some of the product gets into my mouth. The fact that it melts when hot worries me; I fear the ingredients may separate and no longer be evenly distributed (for example, if you keep it in your pocket). The tube specifies that it should not be exposed to temperatures greater than 103 degrees F. Leaves my lips lighter and very glossy (see picture at the end of the post). Price is $10 on Dermstore for a 0.28 oz tube.Cotz SPF 45 lip balm Active: Titanium Dioxide 4.0%, Zinc Oxide 5.5%. Inactive: Alumina, Aluminum Hydroxide, Aluminum Stearate, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Cetearyl Isononanoate, Dicaprylate-Caprate, C12-15 Alkyls Benzoate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Helianthus Annus (Sunflower) Seed Wax, Hexadecanol, Hexadecyl Laurate, Iron Oxides, Ozokerite, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil, Flavor. This is a physical sunscreen lip balm that is tinted brown. Yes, brown. The brown tint works surprisingly well, though I wish they'd come out with a pink option as well. I don't find this to be drying at all. Contains antioxidants Vitamin C and E. It smells a bit like candy, but the scent dissipates quickly. Tastes how it smells, but only if i lick my lips. I've gone through several tubes of this because I like it so much. It holds up fine in my pocket, though the label always gets rubbed off eventually. Looks brown on lips but not overly so (see picture at the end of the post). I've purchased on the Cotz website, as well as on Dermstore. It's about $6-7 for a 0.14 oz tube.Ultrasun UltraLip SPF 30 Ingredients: C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Paraffinum Liquidum, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Ozokerite, Paraffin, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, PEG-8 Beeswax, Cera Alba, Cocoglycerides, Cyclopentasiloxane, Candelilla Cera, Ceresin, Dipropylene Glycol Dibenzoate, Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil, Cyclohexasiloxane, Ribes Nigrum Seed Oil, PPG-15 Stearyl Ether Benzoate, Lecithin, Copernicia Cerifera Cera, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butyrospermum Parkii Extract, Aroma, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Glyceryl Stearate, Glyceryl Oleate, Citric Acid. This is a European product, so the percentages of active ingredients are not listed out. We can see it contains octinoxate, Tinosorb S, and Uvinul A. Contains antioxidants Vitamin C and E. Contains blackcurrent and meadowfoam oils. Because of the UVA circle, we know the PPD is at least 10, or equivalent to PA+++. It says it contains aroma, but I smell nothing. It feels like a regular lip balm, has a very nice texture and no taste at all. I am not sure yet if it is drying (the weather is getting colder here, so it's hard to tell). I purchased it on Feelunique and it's $7-8 for a 4.8 g tube. I like it so far and would purchase again.Photos.

[Hair Removal] Body brushing - how often to brush to avoid ingrown hair?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hi, first time poster here :)I've waxed my legs in the past but was put off because of ingrown hair. I want to start waxing again so I did some research and I only just found out about using body brushing and how it can help combat ingrown hair. From your experience, how often should you use the brush to avoid ingrown hairs? What's the bare minimum frequency? (I'll probably end up using it daily but I'm just curious to see if anyone has tried to figure this out). Thanks!

[Skin Concerns] Enlarged pores suddenly, will actives help? pics in text.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
What the heck is up with these pores. It's like connect-the-dots on my face. I know these aren't the worst ever, but honestly just feeling incredibly saddened that at some point I must have done something to provoke yet another skin issue. Are they clogged (hence the shape)? Enlarged (maybe to produce oil, my skin is dehydrated)? Will a BHA help?I tried to show in the pics, they're these little dots that almost look like they're stretched horizontally. There's so many they've almost formed their own texture and they're like tonnes of fine lines stretching out from my nose. Glam I know. PICSThey appeared suddenly around the time I realized I had damaged my skin. Seeing as naturally it wasn't like this, can it be reversed or are these here to stay?Thrown in a pic of my actual final lines (dry skin crisis) for good measure. I tried retinol 3-4 times for the lines but read it could make pores larger + became aware of the skin damage so stopped. And I'm 18 if that helps. I have my eyes on TO niacinamide and 5% acid, but not until my skin heals. Not sure if those will help or make pores worse. Apparently niacinamide can trigger face flushes.Summary: Butt-tone of weird shaped pores (or are all pores stretched like that). What can I do to improve them and for the love of God what should I avoid

GF won’t take off makeup! [personal]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So my partner has really nice skin but she won’t take off her makeup at night. I always tell her how beautiful she is without it and how it will make her skin worse but she never listens. I don’t really think it’s a confidence thing but more of convenience for the morning. She then puts more layers of makeup on as well.I had pretty bad skin myself and have read all your tips and seen how much you guys say you should take make up off at the end of each day to give your skin time to heal/breathe whatever.Any advice on how I can help convince her to take it off? I’m 99% sure it’s not to do with confidence but she does say she doesn’t like herself without makeup but she knows I don’t mind if she doesn’t wear it.Any advice appreciated!

[Acne] No matter how much time, money or effort I spend, my skin always goes back to looking terrible.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm so done. I don't know what I hope to achieve by this post but I'm just trying to get my thoughts clear and rant so forgive me.A few months ago my skin was perfect. I had been reading this sub for a year and was doing everything right. Moisturizing, sunscreen, AHA, BHA and Differin prescribed by a doctor. My routine was simple and it worked. My problems (acne and CC) went away completely. My PIH disappeared. For a few months, I had the best skin of my life and all the products I used finally were working for me. I was so happy.I don't even know what changed. I had midterm exams two weeks ago and between all the sleepless nights, anxiety and PMS all in the same timeframe, so many tiny CCs sprung up on my cheeks. CCs are the worst to me - I hate the rough texture, I hate how they look in lights or selfies and I hate the redness they leave behind.Around the same time, my cleanser (Cetaphil) ran out as well and all the shops near me didn't have it so I had to settle for a random Johnson & Johnson's gel cleanser. It seems to be working ok so far but it has microbeads and my face always feels kind of dry afterwards - could this be the culprit of CCs? I thought cleansers just get washed off so it doesn't matter that much but I don't even know anymore.I'm trying to continue my routine but I'm so disheartened and depressed. The Differin doesn't seem to be working anymore and I've been on 0.1% for a year and there's no higher strength available where I am. The PIH being left behind is so so depressing. I can't stop staring in the mirror with bright lights on, tilting my face to see where the light hits the CCs and feeling uglier by the second.I wasn't even wearing makeup for the last half a year because my skin was so good and now I'm thinking I need to again to cover it up but it might get worse. I keep wondering why I was so unlucky to have skin like this, where no matter what I do it turns out terrible each time. It's not fair :(I guess my main point of this post is just to rant and maybe ask opinions about the cleanser. I can't get a new cleanser for a while so it's out of my control for now, another thing that's left me feeling terrible. Would love to talk to some people.

[Review] Nivea Sun Protect Plus UV Milky Essence SPF 50+ PA++++

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I haven't seen many reviews for this, so I thought I would write one, especially with the renewed interest in Asian sunscreens around here recently.Nivea Sun Protect Plus UV Milky Essence SPF 50+ PA++++UV filters: Octinoxate, zinc oxide, Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T 150Resistant to water, sweat, sebum. For light outdoor activity. Contains alcohol but no fragrance.Complete information here. It's also featured on this sunscreen comparison chart.I would consider this to be an alternative to Biore Aqua Rich watery essence or gel. If you don't like fragrance (like in the watery essence), or if you can't handle titanium dioxide (like in the watery gel), for example, you might want to consider this one.It has a nice gel-like texture that blends easily. It leaves a slight sheen, as you can see in the picture below. The zinc oxide leaves some whiteness on my skin, but it's not excessive at all; similar to that of the old (2015) Biore watery gel. This product did not irritate my eyes at all. I found it to be neither drying nor moisturizing. I ordered it on Amazon from Japan so it took a few weeks to arrive. I think I would repurchase this. The small bottle makes it great for travel or for keeping in a purse or pocket.Photos.

[Routine Help] Is it possible to combine a serious skincare/sunscreen routine with wearing a short beard?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hello friends, it’s 2017 and every man is sporting a beard. Any tips to combine it with serious sunscreen application, serums... so far I just keep a really short stubble and try not to waste too much serum, I can still spread the sun bb cream on my stubble if I keep it under 2.5 mms. Any tips or beard oil recommendations? Sunscreens that are transparent and work on hairy areas? Cheers

I've had a severe acne once but thankfully I was able to get rid of it and take care of my skin, and now I have a near spotless skin if not for that huge red acne scare in the middle of my cheekbone (It's been there since 2010, it isn't planning to fade anytime soon) I use chemical exfoliants and Vitamin c serums, aloe vera.. etc, but none of them helped. Any suggestions?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Pictures of the left and right side of my faceI am 20 years old. I had acne when i was a teenager, and then my skin transitioned into this complexion instead. I have combination skin as far as i know. I turned to my doctor a year ago but he said that I should just accept my face, since it isn't really severe. He recommended me a moisturizer and sunscreen. So now I use a moisturizer with 2% niacinamide, jojoba oil, ceramides, shea butter & a daily spf 50 sunscreen. None of them seem to have made a difference on my skin whether i use them or not. Is there any hope for me?

[Skin Concerns] Really confused over skin type?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I am 14 and whenever I use my Bioré Charcoal Cleanser then moisturise after with Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturiser (with salicylic acid in), my face feels quite dry, but a couple of hours later when I look in the mirror, my face is incredibly oily but the skin around my nose is extremely dry, red and flaky! Please help I am really confused and is it due to me not using a toner?I actually think it may be due to me using this cleanser twice daily, I might cut back to once daily and use the Clean & Clear Daily Exfoliating wash the other time as that is not drying and is quite creamy. Is my skin actually oily as I do have loads of spots or is it being dehydrated and forced to produce more oil?

[Personal] Went to a derm last month and it was wholly disappointing, got help from a beautician though.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My Mom convinced me (20,f) that I should see a dermatologist and I finally went there last month. My face didn’t look too bad, I had just started an AHA cream for the first time but I still considered that going to a derm might stop my Mom from bugging me. The derm was not helpful at all. I have very dry skin but for about half a year I’ve been breaking out as well. It had been bad at first but with the help of skincare I managed to turn cystic acne into mild breakouts every now and then. That’s a good thing because I never even washed my face with anything but water before I started breaking out and now I have a proper routine. The dermatologist didn’t even care about my dry skin and prescribed me an antibiotic topical within a minute of seeing me even though she herself said that there were no new breakouts to be seen, just light scarring, told me to stop using all my skincare products and to not wear makeup again. ‘Wash your face with soap and water once a day’ was basically what she said. Well, thanks. That’s where I came from and since I stopped doing exactly that I saw great improvements but thanks anyway. She furthermore told me to ‘eat healthy’ and that was it. I have never done anything else, I have always eaten healthy for all my life and I don’t eat sweets or fatty foods simply because I don’t like them. I took the prescription because my Mom is a pharmacist and makes money with every prescription that’s coming in but I never used the topical. Instead I had a skin analysis done by a beautician and talked to her about adjusting my routine. She suggested a different moisturiser for the winter to keep my dry skin balanced, actually listened to my concerns and was generally a lot more helpful than the derm I went to. I’m definitely cancelling my follow up appointment with her. After using the AHA cream for about six week I haven’t had any new breakouts in a month, the scarring I had (it wasn’t too bad, a few red marks here and there) is fading rather quickly and thanks to the new moisturiser I’m using I haven’t had any dry patches yet even though the weather is getting colder by the day. It looks like I finally found the perfect routine. I’m very happy with this overall but that dermatologist appointment must have been the most disappointing doctor’s visit I ever had. I’m especially disappointed that she didn’t take a minute to listen to my concerns and the problems I have with my skin. All she could tell me is that the breakouts were probably ‘from stress’ (could be, my father died 18 months ago and Uni isn’t exactly easy either). I needed to get my disappointment out, by no means do I want to say that all dermatologists suck and that we should not listen to their advice. It’s just that mine did.

[Routine Help] How can I smoothen out my skin and get rid of my acne scars?

Hello everyone, I am new to /r/SkincareAddiction , but I already read some of the posts from the sidebar etc. After some research I decided to give Skincare a try and bought these products:CeraVe Foaming Facial CleanserPaulas-Choice 2% BHA-Liquid Skin PerfectingClinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing GelCOSRX Acne Pimple Master PatchOXY 5 Regular Acne Pimple Cream Medication 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Mild PimpleCOSRX galactomyces 95 Whitening Power EssenzThe ordinary skincare Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%My problems: https://imgur.com/a/1daReAcne scars on my cheecks (PIH)some rednessclosed comedonesSebaceous FilamentsAdditional Info about me: I had worse acne a few years ago, but after treating it with Tretinoin it got a lot better, and now I only have problems with few pimples from time to time and the other mentioned problems. I think I tend to be more of a normal/oily type. The pictures above were made before using the mentioned products, I am still waiting for some of these products, so I couldn't try them out. Furthermore I made these pictures after showering, so that may explain the dryness, although I am normally not dry. What would you suggest how to approach my acne scars, smoothen out my skin and get a even skin tone?( I thought about switching to a stronger AHA with salicylic acid and probably try microneedling to get rid of my scars. Additionally I would add a Vitamin C Serum, Sunscreen and Roiseship oil (?))

[skin concern] THESE SEBACEOUS FILAMENTS ARE DRIVING ME NUTS

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I use a 5% AHA and 2% BHA every night, 30% The Ordinary AHA peel once a week (started recently), niacinimide and properly moisturize, and I STILL have out of control sebaceous filaments on my nose. Like once every two weeks, i go to town squeezing my shnoz and so much gunk comes out. Why is this? I thought chemical exfoliants pretty much took care of the problem, and my exfoliant routine is pretty aggressive. If I dont use exfoliants for a little while (vacation for a week a few months ago) my nose looked like a strawberry they were so noticeable...the filaments were raised, dark and hard. Its exhausting just keeping them in check.Does anyone else have this problem? What causes this? Hereditary/diet/routine? Im at my wits end with these little shits.

[Skin Concern] Is this thing just on my face just a pimple + what do I do?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
https://imgur.com/a/i59kDI woke up with a giant pimple on my face that looks like three pimples in one. I don't usually get big pimples and have never had one that looks like this so I don't know where to start. For context this started when I woke up yesterday with a single, big swollen pimple on the bottom right of my face. You can see it in the pics but it looks way tamer there, in real life it's still pretty red. I treated it with a LOT of salicylic acid which I'm guessing is where I went wrong? I use the ordinary's salicylic which I forgot is a strong solution. I reapplied a lot, maybe 6 or 7 times. At the time same time I also had a smaller pimple on the top right of my face which I re-applied salicylic to just as frequently. Today I woke up to find the bottom pimple burst and the top pimple.. mutated. What should I do? I've read conflicting things about hot and cold compresses and I don't have any tea tree oil. Should I keep applying salicylic to it?

My mom has had psoriasis, primarily impacting her hands and feet, for years. She's seen specialists, and has the issue mostly under control, but she still suffers from dry, cracked feet a lot of the time. I was thinking about getting her some products for her feet this Christmas--specifically, I had my eyes on a Babyfoot foot facial for her. From what I've read, salicylic acid can be good for psoriasis, and the Babyfoot foot facials include SA. The last thing I want to do is make the problem worse, though, so I thought I'd check and see what you all think--would it work? Might there be other products I could get for her?

[Skin Concerns] Stretch Marks & Keratosis Pilaris.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey there folks. Been a lurker on reddit for a while, but never posted beforehand. Any-who I hope this is the most suitable sub. I'm a 18 year old guy with stretch marks and keratosis pilaris (lucky me) and i'm looking for the wisdom of you experienced skincare folk.Firstly, I'll talk about my stretch marks. I'm aware you gain them from puberty but i think they're a rarity in males. I've had them for 6 months and been using Bio-oil, applying it once a day everyday on all the affected areas (shoulders, triceps and hips). I've noticed some partial fading since they sprung up but i'm not sure if that is because of the Bio-oil or aging. (they fade over time, right?). My query with the 'marks is essentially what to do to speed up the process, as i dont want to wait a year or so for them to entirely fade.Secondly, my KP. Always had it and I know a few people who do but mine is quite severe. I've seen on other threads that people have suggested exfoliation: using scrubs and oils etc. This has been partially successful because it has removed the bumpy texture on my skin, however the blotchy/red colours are still visible and unchanged. I'm not sure how to get my skin to return to its normal colour. All your help is much appreciated, thanks :)

cold sore scar! help!! [skin concerns]

Beauty Tips For Body Care
have had cold sores all my life... usually able to stop early onset with medication, but most recently was not able to and had an outbreak. I "nudged" the scab off probably a bit earlier than I shouldve, but it was already starting to come off, and it did not bleed when it did come off. Now it has been 2 weeks since i've had a scab and the area where the sore was is very pink and shows no signs of getting lighter... It has never taken this long for the pigmentation to subside, so now I am worried it's an actual scar that will be this color forever. I've picked scabs before too (I know I shouldn't_, and never has it had this effect. I am so self conscious about it, and keep reading mixed things on the internet whether it's possible to have this be discolored forever.... help! Is it just a matter of waiting, or am I screwed? I've had the discoloration for longer than I had the actual cold sore now. The skin texture also seems different from normal skinPICTURE HERE: https://imgur.com/a/T7pe7Note it also changes in how "pink" it is throughout the day, sometimes it will be barely noticeable, and at other times of day it will suddenly be very pink/borderline light red again

[Skin concerns] Is it safe to pull exposed blackheads out of my nose?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Sometimes at the end of the day, I would notice a small part of the blackheads on my nose protruding. I use tweezers to grab the small, exposed part of the blackhead and pull it out. It comes out as a small, white clump. I'm left with a tiny, empty, socket on my nose where the blackhead was. The socket is fairly distinct, as it looks like a small hole with blood at the bottom. However, I don't bleed from that spot. Nothing else comes out, so I just wash it after with warm water. Is this safe to do? I've been doing this for a while and can't help but think that the aforementioned holes are becoming bigger and bigger when I pull the blackhead out. At the same time, it may just be in my mind, so I wanted to run this by you guys before making any conclusions. If it matters, I apply BHA and then AHA on my face at the start of every morning.

[Routine Help] OCM working but sebum clogs are a constant problem

Beauty Tips For Body Care
My current OCM routine is 50/50 castor and grapeseed and a few drops of TTO combo. It’s cleared up around 90-95% of my acne (I’m a teenager so I guess most of it stems from hormonal/oil issues) but a different problem has surfaced: sebum clogs!! (it was there with my acne before OCM but has either gotten worse or it’s just more obvious without the acne). My forehead is super oily and pore-y so when I look at it closely I can see liquid-ish tiny white dots filling the pores near my t-zone like on my nose and between my eyebrows, and closer to my temples they turn hard and yellowish and jut out. They’re all over my forehead and since I OCM every night to keep the acne and oiliness away I feel a bunch of clogs coming out, although many more remain. Literally they come back every single day and I’m driving myself crazy using tweezers to pluck out the little hard yellow sesame seed looking things. I was thinking the problem got worse since my skin has been very dehydrated lately, so I’m trying to drink as much water as possible but I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem or knows of a way to deal with the little plugs? Could it be the oil that is causing the problem? Because I thought oil was supposed to moisturize, but my forehead is dehydrated (internal perhaps?), flakey and clogged.TL;DR: I ocm using castor grapeseed and TTO and have a problem with sebum plugs coming back in my pores every day.EDIT: just remembered to mention that i tried jojoba oil in the past and I vaguely recall that it made my clogged pores/acne a little worse. Definitely didn’t see any miracles.

Would you give up acids? Retinoids? Go for micellar water instead of cleanser? I'm curious! I accumulated so many products over the past year and really, really want to downsize the clutter.

[Acne] My two month progress with spironolactone 75mg, topical clindamycin, and tretinoin cream.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
http://i68.tinypic.com/28vb0ok.pngI started at 50mg spiro and got it increased to 75mg two weeks ago. I had an initial breakout from he increase but since then it has been even better than before. I have had hormonal acne since I was 12 years old and this is the only thing that has worked for me.My acne got better briefly when I was 17/18 and then came back. It wasn’t too bad but got the worst it has ever been and turned cystic last year.I have tried no dairy, no gluten, no sugar, keto, vegan, paleo, tons of vitamins/ pills, antibiotics, differin and other medications, proactive, no plastic containers, nothing at all, and this is the only thing that has ever worked. The only downside is the dryness around my mouth/ eyes/ under my nose can get red and peel and sting. I put aquafer on those areas in the morning and at night before my treatment and it helps.

[Product Question] Which Vitamin C from The Ordinary is best?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Used to use Hylamide C25 serum which I liked, apart from looking a little greasy after initial application. Definitely think it made my skin look brighter and more even. However, it's quite expensive and I'm hoping one of the ordinary vitamin c products will work just as well.Tried the first formulation of TO niacinamide and zinc for brightening. Wanted it to work but within days I had uncharacteristic deep cystic acne on my cheeks. Stopped using and within a week was back to normal. So which TO vitamin C do people prefer and why?

[Acne] Has anyone here ever broken out after being intimate with a bearded guy?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've had acne troubles in the past, but in the past few years things have really gotten under control for me (FINALLY!). Lately though I've been hooking up with this guy who has a pretty decently sized beard. Like I can run my fingers through it, roughly. In the same amount of time as "lately," I've been having some really bad breakouts and I am 99% certain it's from this beard. Which is super hot, so it's a damn shame. My questions are this:Has anyone else ever dealt with this?Is there anything I can do to PREVENT this from happening more??Is this even a real thing or am just going mad? Will my skin ever "get over" this?Nothing else in my routine has changed. I'm pretty sure he washes it each time he showers, but haven't asked specifically. I don't think he uses waxes/oils. I've been trying to wash all of my pillow cases, etc. after our...mhm...times. But it's getting to be a lot of laundry tbh. My sister's husband will grow a beard from time to time, but she says she never sees a difference in her skin. Sigh. This is dude is hot. Really don't want an acne beard to match. Please send help.

[Product Question] at what relative humidity level (if any) do i need to worry about using hyaluronic acid?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
so i've heard in the past that because hyaluronic acid is hydrophilic, if the air around you is very dry it will actually pull moisture out of your skin/dry out your skin rather than adding moisture. is that true? does anyone know at what level of humidity (or lack of humidity i guess?) that happens? would using a more occlusive product over the hyaluronic acid products stop that from happening?i've had a lot of luck with a hyaluronic acid-heavy routine over the last few months, but the summer and fall are pretty humid where i live, while winters tend to be extremely dry. i'm wondering whether i should be cutting back on the hyaluronic acid as the air gets dryer - if so, what can i replace it with that would be similarly hydrating?my current routine is:pmoil cleanse with sweet almond oilcleanse with neutrogena hydro boost cleansing gel (only if i was wearing makeup/sunscreen)the ordinary hyaluronic acid serumneutrogena hydro boost gel creamsimple replenishing replenishing rich moisturizeraquaphor on dry spots (usually lips + bottom of nose)amoccasionally rinse with warm water before applying makeup but tbh usually nothingmy skin is sensitive and suuuuper dehydrated at all times and doesn't respond well to most chemical exfoliants/anti-acne active ingredients or to fatty alcohols. my skincare goals are just to keep my skin from feeling/looking dry without making it break out.thanks in advance for any advice!

[PSA] These bandages are amazing at healing traumatized acne!

Beauty Tips For Body Care
So I have problems with skin picking, not proud of it but it is what it is. If I have a cystic pimple I will pick at it and try to pop it until it pops, so much so that my skin will be bruised and bloody after. I usually just use the Cosrx acne patches or the Nexcare ones and they work great for not so damaged skin but these ones, man, they are amazing. I just cut them up into little squares, you can get about 8 out of one. I thought this sore on my face was literally going to be the worst scar I've had but it is healing the best. I don't think it will scar at all. Also they stay put for a very, very long time, like multiple days if need be. They also are easier to get than the K Beauty ones. I will always have both on hand now, the patches and these bandages. I just thought this might give someone hope, when they know they have gone too far yet again and now have to worry about being permanently scarred.https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-advanced-healing-premium-adhesive-bandages/ID=prod6169377-product?reactjs=true

[PSA] Constantly peeling lips, and how I fixed it after suffering for 5 years. (Exfoliative Chelitis)

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I'm posting this for anyone who, like me, searched "peeling lips" or "exfoliative chelitis" on Google / Reddit, desperately seeking help or advice with this problem.TL;DR at the bottom.About 5 years ago, my lips got really dry. I tried using various lip balms but the skin would just get dry and flakey again and I would need to bite / peel it off just to keep my sanity and self-esteem.This problem progressively got worse. I got into a habit where every morning when I brushed my teeth I would have a build-up of dead, white skin. I'd wipe this build-up away and pick at my lips all day to keep them as smooth as possible. Sometimes it would seem like they were improving, but next day, like clockwork, they would be dry and flakey again.Googling these symptoms, I found one common term: exfoliative chelitis. A disease in which the skin on your lips is thickened and grows constantly. I found so many people claiming that they've had it for 5, 10, 15 or more years, and there was no known cure. Despair set in, I felt like I would be this way forever. Here's a few of the remedies that I tried:AquaphorLanolinHydrocortisoneCanesten (yes, really)VaselineVitamin B supplementsDrinking LOTS of waterThese helped slightly, but no matter what I would wake up the next day with dry lips.If you read articles about this disorder, you'll also find "factitious exfoliative chelitis". This means the problem is caused or exacerbated by picking, licking, etc. But this couldn't be me, I had tried leaving my lips alone for a day or two and it didn't seem to help very much. I ignored this and carried on in my belief that I was incurable.Well, flash-forward to last week. After 5 years of suffering like this, I tried to repeat an experiment that had had limited success in the past.Apply lanolin whenever possibleDo NOT pick, lick or otherwise disturb the skin on your lips under any circumstancesStay hydratedAfter a day, not much had changed. However, I resisted the urge to peel the dead skin. Two days, it almost seemed worse. This was when I gave up last time.Three days, I noticed some improvement. But I had been fooled before, so I didn't let myself get excited.Four, five, six days later, and my lips were feeling smooth like they hadn't in years. This treatment seemed to be working.Today it's been about eight or nine days since I started this. And my lips are perfectly smooth. I suffered for 5 years with this shit and all I had to do was STOP PICKING AT THE SKIN! I can't express how self-conscious this condition made me, how many social obligations I turned down because of it.There are people who legitimately have exfoliative chelitis and cannot be cured this way, no doubt, I've read case studies about it. However, based on my reading and experience, I firmly believe that the vast amount of people are like me and just need to stop picking at their lips. It's a compulsion. But it can be cured.TL;DR: You're the problem. Stop picking at your lips, stay hydrated, and use lanolin (it's the best lip balm there is). Your lips will look gross and feel awful for 3-4 days but in the long run you will be cured. I wish I learned this sooner.

[PSA] If chemical sunscreens make your face burn, you're likely sensitive to Avobenzone. You might find success with an Asian chemical sunscreen.

Beauty Tips For Body Care
I've seen this issue pop up in the daily help thread several times, so I thought I'd make a PSA post.Intolerance of (American) chemical sunscreen is a common problem. You get this horrible stinging/burning sensation around your eyes and cheeks. This leads a lot of people to forego sunscreen on their face altogether, or seek physical-only alternatives.First, a little background:There are 2 forms of UV radiation that most sunscreens protect us from: UVA and UVB. The SPF rating is a measure of UVB protection. In the US there is no regulated rating for UVA protection, though anything describing itself as "broad spectrum" will protect against UVA and UVB. UVA is actually very important to protect against: It's the type of radiation primarily responsible for tanning, aging, and skin cancer (while UVB is the primary cause of sunburn). There are only 2 FDA-approved UVA filters in the United States (and Canada too, I think): Avobenzone (a chemical filter) and Zinc Oxide (a physical filter). Unfortunately, some people with sensitive skin have a bad reaction to avobenzone, and it makes their face hurt, particularly around the eyes. Zinc oxide is a viable alternative, but as many of you know, it's not exactly cosmetically pleasing. The FDA is super weird about sunscreens, and for some reason won't allow new ones to be approved.Fortunately, in this glorious age of the internet, we can buy sunscreens from other countries where there are effective, well-studied UVA-filtering alternatives to Avobenzone and ZO. Moreover, other countries have UVA protection rating systems, similar to SPF, so you know how much UVA protection you're actually getting (whereas in the US it's a crap shoot). While I believe avobenzone is still used in some European sunscreens, it is never (as far as I can tell) used in Korean or Japanese sunscreens. Asian sunscreens also tend to be more cosmetically elegant, so they'll leave you less greasy, oily, and without a white cast. There are lots of popular products out there, many of which you can buy easily on Amazon. One thing to watch out for, however, for people with extra-sensitive skin is that many Asian sunscreens contain denatured alcohol, which is used to make the product look nicer on your skin. It's not dangerous, but it can be dehydrating. Fortunately there are plenty of alcohol-free alternatives (My favorite is called Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk- it cost ~$10/bottle, including shipping).I struggled for years trying to find an all-physical sunscreen that wasn't horrible. Discovering that Asian sunscreens are literally so mild that I can directly rub them on my eyelid and it feels no different than water has been absolutely life-changing.TL;DR: If American chemical sunscreen makes your face hurt, give Asian sunscreens a try.

[Routine help] Why does my skin do this?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
pics. My skin is dry, but during the day, I sometimes get oily on my nose, and forehead, and most of the makeup I wear in those places rubs off. I have pretty clear skin in general, but my main concerns are dryness and redness. I also have sensitive skin. I recently went to sephora and was recommended the caudalie vinosource moisturizing sorbet, as one that wouldn’t feel sticky, would hydrate, and reduce redness. The moisturizer is still sticky and doesn’t really reduce redness or dryness. I use may coop raw sauce underneath, but today I’m using neutrogena hydro boost Hydrating serum underneath. I use La Roche-Posay Hydrating gentle cleanser. I sometimes use Neutrogena deep clean invigorating foaming scrub. What am I doing wrong? The makeup seemed to accentuate the texture today, so I’m wearing Makeup forever step 1 Hydrating primer, Mac mineralize moisture spf 15 foundation, Nars Radiant creamy concealer, and No. 7 pressed powder

[Acne] Cycstic zit turned hard, wont go away

Beauty Tips For Body Care
Hey all, first time poster here sorry if this is the wrong forum.About 2 1/2-3 weeks ago I started getting a cycstic zit on my cheek near my mouth. I've been getting these on and off lately, and fwiw I'm a 32 year old guy. Anyway, it seemed to go through the stages: starts off small and red, a little sore/painful and itchy, gets bigger over the next few days. It stopped being painful and itchy over a week ago but it's still red and hasn't reduced much in size. In fact it's kinda hard which I don't recall my other blemishes being. Usually by now (with my skin) It would have started shrinking and going away and smoothing out but every morning I wake up there's like 0 change. it's like the same size and still red going on over a week now. Only difference is it's not itchy or painful. It's got me thinking there's puss trapped in there because it never came to a head (but mine never do and always go away after about a week). This has been like 2 weeks and at the rate it's going i feel like it will be a month or 2 before it's completely gone. I don't have a dermatologist and don't know what to do but it's making me feel very ugly and cancel plans/not want to leave the house.Anyone ever have something similar to this?

Beauty Tips For Body Care
(Warning: detailed pics may gross some people out) 20 y/o female here, been suffering from comedonal acne for about 3yrs now. I've tried everything from differin, to BP, to salycilic acid with no positive results. These products actually made my skin a lot worse, gave me horrible hyperpigmentation and more comedones. Recently I've toned down my routine a lot and started Yasmin birth control(this is my first month) so my acne is not as bad as it was, still horrible though. I need advice on the products I use and some I'm going to incorporate as soon as the shipping arrives;AM: Garnier micellar water(pink lid) Mario badescu aloe Vera toner Cetaphil hyluronic acid serum Cerave PM lotion (Going to add Derma E antioxidant 30spf) PM: Cerave SA renewing cleanser Mario badescu aloe Vera toner (Going to add mizon 8% aha gel) Cetaphil hyluronic serum Cerave PM lotionAnd before people tell me "you need to get off the internet and see a dermatologist," I'll tell you I have an appt coming up in February, my insurance has been kind of a mess and I barely got insurance again, was not able to get an appt in time to a derm because it's a 6month waiting list in my town. I'm looking forward to getting professional help, but for the time being if anyone could help me improve my skin I'd appreciate it. This is something that has caused so much depression and anxiety in my life. I really just want to feel beautiful again. Sorry if I didn't go much into detail but if you have any questions I'll be sure to answer if you can help me w my predicament.I'm going to try to add acne pics starting from going off differin and bp, to starting my new routine in combination with the birth control. These pics are exactly 3 weeks apart Anything would be helpful(: thanks.Acne after differin and starting Yasmin

okay, so to be quite honest with y'all, i've never really been that into skincare. i like the idea of it (which is true - i know a fair bit about the science of it, i just don't practice it - sue me!), and sure, every now and then i slathered on a moisturizer or did an oil cleanse for funsies but otherwise, i was one of those monsters who went to bed with their makeup on. in my defense, i do have a pretty "normal" skin type so it wasn't being violently abused or anything, but i did/do suffer from dehydration around my forehead and seborrheic dermatitis on my nose which i obviously wasn't happy about.i also suffered from product hoarding, therefore i had tons of random skincare products - usually korean because of the hype train - but no specific routine! well, about three weeks ago i finally got fed up with my shitty skin behaviours, and my forehead was starting to look really clogged and miserable. i'm talking rough texture, lots of closed comedones, and the dehydration was starting to give me premature wrinkles. bitch, i'm a 25 year old brown woman! there's no reason i should be wrinkling at this age, with my tone and complexion! so, i tossed all of my random products, went out to the closest walmart and picked up garnier's micellar water, cerave's hydrating cleanser, moisturizing lotion and pm lotion, and hopped online so i could lock down TO's hyaluronic acid, lactic acid 10%, salicylic acid, and buffet serum.i know this isn't recommended, but i started using every product almost immediately. while i haven't treated my skin the greatest, i do know that it's not very sensitive and so as long as i pay attention to the ingredients (fuck right off SLS!), there aren't many things that make my skin react poorly.well, we're nearly at the month mark and HOLY SHIT my skin looks and feels incredible! i know i'm not supposed to touch it, but goddamn i just can't help myself sometimes. while my skin may not have looked too ugh, i didn't realize how rough and uneven it was until i started being diligent with products. and the PURGING?? am i the only one who loved every minute of it? i felt like i was shedding my old self like a snake! big shout out to lactic acid for bringing up some of the ugliest, nastiest cystic acne i've ever seen in my life AND clearing it within a matter of days! it usually makes an appearance in the week before my dreaded period, but nah, that salicylic/lactic acid combo was dragging it outta the dark and into the light by its wig. see you later, honey!we're nearing the end of the purge: anarchy, folks, and next it's the fine lines that are gonna get their asses beat. thank y'all SO much! i'll be posting a selfie in another couple weeks, when my skin has finally peaked. if it weren't for this wonderful sub, i'd still be marianas trench levels deep in skincare hell! seriously, who knew that those nasty nodules could shrink in only a couple of days? hallelujah! i'd been suffering with those lil shits for over a week during my period!edit: i forgot to add the most important product here, but i promise you i'm also using an spf!!
